Rachel Drake has left her previous life after the murder of her husband. She finds a seventh floor apartment block in Thorwald Place, known as Fort Knox because of its strict security- no one can enter of leave without the security cameras spotting them. Then the unthinkable happens. She is murdered in the elevator. She is attacked from behind so does not know who did this to her.
She is out to find who did this! As a spirit she is in and out of their lives floor by floor.
She travels via ‘her elevator’ and comes to the conclusion that any one of them could have killed her.
(There are so many characters` dead and alive; I missed the Kindle highlight feature as I was trying to keep who’s who and what’s what!)

I could not put this down. I love thrillers with twists and turns.
I suspected everyone but really didn’t have a clue whodunit.

Author: Helen Powers] tells us that the idea for this story came to her in a dream back 2015 where she was a ghost tethered to the elevator of an apartment building, yearning to visit the adjacent apartments, but every time I ventured too far the elevator would be summoned, yanking me back..
She shelved the book but participated in #Pitmad, a twitter event where authors pitch their novel to agents and editors in 240 characters or less.
That was when The Ghosts of Thorwald Place found a home to haunt with CamCat.

The murderiest apartment building in Canada with the most psychopaths per square foot EVER! This audiobook is a spooky, twisty mystery listen perfect for a road trip.

After her violent murder in her apartment complex's elevator, Agoraphobe, Rachael Drake's afterlife begins. She is a ghost, tethered to the elevator she died in and only able to venture a short distance from it. As the elevator is called up and down the building, Rachael watches the residents of the apartments next to it and discovers dark truths. Why is there so much dark energy in the building? Are there other ghosts? Who killed her and her husband? What other dark crimes are currently happening in the building? There is a Plot with a capital "P" and it kept me guessing until the end.

I definitely recommend this to supernatural mystery lovers. It won't disappoint. The audiobook was a compelling listen.

I love good ghost stories and The Ghosts of Thorwald Place by Helen Power was amazing! The eerie, atmospheric writing kept me enthralled with this paranormal murder mystery. I devoured this audiobook in one sitting! The depth of every character in this book was astounding. Everyone was so unique and complex. Even the ghosts had amazing character growth. The narrator for this book was amazing. Her voice really helped immerse me in the story. The pacing was fast and great for binging! Nearly every plot twist caught me off guard in the best way. The ending wrapped this story up perfectly and I'm so excited for what Helen Power will put out next.

An interesting premise that had a number of twists and turns in discovering the murderer.

Rachel Drake is the main protagonist and what sets her apart if that she is dead. She is a ghost that inhabits the area where she was viciously murdered, and elevator. Rachel had confined herself to Thornwald after the murder of her husband., but one night after receiving a phone call, she heads to the car garage and that is the last of her life.

With her new residence, Rachel haunts the hallways and rides the elevator while learning about the residents, all of whom have secrets and becoming major suspects in Rachel's murder. Why is she here and not gone to the great beyond? As Rachel learns more, the suspense increases and perhaps Rachel will learn the devious nature of the why of her death as well as that of her husband, Jay.

The only issue I had with the story was its length and the many characters presented in the story. Helen Power does present her characters well, but flips back and forth with their presence in the story. It is this author's first book and was a fairly good attempt.

Thank you to Helen Power, CanCat Books, and NetGalley for a copy of this story narrated by Rachel Fulginiti. This book published in October of 2021.

I have always been attracted to books happening in a closed setting, particularly in houses that have a story to tell. I also always enjoyed the lurking feeling of a book taking me into a building inhabited by several occupants and being able to open each door of the building to discover the history being each door. Through Rachel, this is exactly what I did with the Ghosts of Thorwald Place, and then some. Rachel is a secluded widow who ends up being murdered in the elevator of her building. She separates herself from her body and starts roaming the apartments of the building. Helen Power successfully creates this eerie atmosphere as we find ourselves roaming the halls, going up and down the elevator, going in and out of rooms, and witnessing scenes only a ghost can.

I quickly grew attached to Rachel, Melody, Sabrina, and wanted to know what happened to the little girl with the carved-out eyes. I was satisfied with the ending. You can't help but become paranoid of the people living in your building if you happen to live in one like I do. Really cool audio, I highly recommend it!

A hidden gem! I don’t usually go for ghost stories or anything supernatural but this sounded too interesting to pass up and I’m glad I branched out.

There is a LOT going on here but to start, we have Rachel Drake, but there’s more to her than meets the eye. She’s living under an assumed name because her husband was murdered and she’s hiding from that person. Thorwald Place seemed safe. It has a doorman who’s more attentive than a prison guard, but somehow, she is murdered anyway.

She thinks it’s the same person who killed her husband but she watches her best friend and her brother in law investigate anyway. She’s tethered to the elevator so she can see what’s going on but eventually gets pulled away.

There are a lot of unsavory things going on in this building, among both the living and the dead and in order to get any peace, she has to figure out why she’s still there.

This was a ghost story, a mystery, and a domestic drama all wrapped into one. It has some really creepy aspects that spooked me but also some soapy situations. It had a little bit of everything so when I sat down to write a review, I couldn’t find a negative! I had wished it was a little shorter but we needed the character development and it paid off.

It also had a satisfying ending, which is kind of rare these days! I loved it. I got the audio and the narration was fantastic. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to listen and review. Available now!

I enjoyed this as an audiobook. It was a fascinating story. It starts right with a bang. You get to meet the MC as she gives a little view in to her life before she is threatened on a helpline she answers. After the shocking beginning, you are still with her as she learns her new world. I loved how it was tied to the elevetor and how she learned her bubbble but also that she was stuck wherever it was.

The story was compelling. I found myself guessing what I thought each step meant and I wasn't always right. This was a little long but I really liked the audio narrator, she did a great job of keeping me engaged and giving feeling to the story. She helped bring it alive.

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

It was difficult to get into the book at first but after a few chapters I was into it. It's a cross between Ghost and Kissed by an Angel. It's an interesting premise with the perspective of a ghost and a murder mystery. It's ok for light reading.

If you're in the mood for a paranormal thriller, I highly recommend The Ghosts of Thorwald Place. It's dark and tense with more than a few horror elements. The paranormal aspect is blended into the mystery well — sometimes when I'm reading a mystery, especially a domestic thriller, I feel like the addition of ghosts pulls away from the story, but this is a story that is 100% benefitted from it. There were some twists that I expected, but there were also many that completely surprised me. Overall, I found this to be a really interesting read, but I would recommend checking the content warnings before diving in.

Rachel, despite all her efforts to hide from her husband’s killer, is murdered. And just to make it worse, she is stuck as a ghost near her place of death, which happens to be the elevator in her high-security building. She has a certain range she can move in and observes the lives of the people living in the building and is shocked at what she finds. No one is as ordinary as they seem, what happens behind closed doors is downright scary, and how much can a ghost do to help…anyone.

I received a copy of this audiobook from Netgalley, which is also available on Kindle. The story started out a little slow for me, it jumped around a bit to find out about Rachel’s previous life, what brought her to the building she died in, and meeting the residents she can follow. It does pick up towards the middle, the stories about the residents are interesting, and the writer does a very good job of creating stories for each of the residents, which makes you wonder… what is happening in my neighbour’s house…

I liked that we get to see different stories in one book, woven together. There are many surprises along the way, and for me, the ending was well done, with all the stories brought to a satisfying, and sometimes surprising, conclusion. It is a paranormal suspense, we have Rachel as a ghost, and there are some other ghosts around as well. She doesn’t get to see everything and go everywhere, so the suspense builds when she catches a glimpse of something but can’t stay to see what is happening. I’m unsure about the narrator for this book, at times, she does a wonderful job but not right through the whole story.

In short, it is a little slow to start off, but with captivating stories, they are woven together very well, and the suspense is kept in that Rachel can’t go where she wants and is limited in what information she gets. You may look at your neighbours with new eyes…

An enjoyable murder mystery/ghost story to listen to, with plenty of suspects and lots of twists and turns. A scared acrophobic woman is lured out of her apartment and murdered. Her ghost remains in the upmarket building where she wanders and observes the other flat owners lives as she tries to work out who killed her. But she finds many of the other flat occupants have dark secrets to hide but who is the killer and will they strike again? I switched my idea of who the murderer was so many times, as the author lays lots of false leads to trip up over. Thank you to CamCat Books Publisher and NetGalley for the audio ARC. Rachel was found killed in an elevator and spends her ghost life obsessing over the lives around her and those who have passed. She spends this time trying to find out who her killer is and what secrets her neighbors hold.

In this paranormal murder mystery, the ghost of an agoraphobe becomes obsessed with the living and the dead. In life, she had zero desire to leave her apartment for over two years. In the afterlife, she learns that every one of her neighbors is hiding something. Trying to find her murderer doesn’t look as easy as she’d hoped especially when the elevator calls and whisks her away.

I was incredibly impressed how intricately layered the entire story: the characters and their lives, the formatting of the book. This ghostly murder mystery gave me chills.

With her husband murdered, she hasn’t left her apartment in two years. All her neighbors have secrets and are following her murder in the media. In her mortal life, she worked a hotline to assist domestic abuse victims. In her afterlife, she must protect one of her callers (who happens to be one of her neighbors)… before it’s too late.

I love when she crashes a seance complete with the classic Ouija board. Unexpectedly, funny, scary, all around emotional moments ensue.

No matter where she is at the time, when someone walks onto the elevator, she is called back to it. Her spirit is essentially attached to it because her murder occurred in the elevator.

Thank you, CamCat Books and Netgalley for the ALC for review.

Thanks so much netgalley for the chance to listen to this audiobook! This book was super intriguing and kept me wanting to know what was going to happen every chapter. It was not what I was expecting but in a great way. This was a ghost story unlike one I’ve ever read.

Holy crap this book is insane. In the first 10 minutes of the book, there is a murder. I mean holy crap. The book is so good. I love the concept of the ghosts. I love how we got to learn so much about the other people who lived in the building. This book really has some crazy twists and turns and the ending. Oh my gosh, I didn't see that coming at all. I just wow. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to find a thrilling, mysterious, crazy story. It has ghosts, murder, secrets, stalkers. It's literally insane. It does have some triggers, obviously murder but also domestic abuse is touched on, and so is suicide.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This one is more of a confusing slow burner. It took me several days to finish it as it was hard to get into. There were some past and present timelines involving Kay/Rachel. Then you have all of the residents in her building as well.
At first I thought I was not going to enjoy this but then I started getting into it and was invested in hearing how the residents connected and what happened to each and what their real ulterior motives were.
Definitely a lot to unpack in this one but I ended up enjoying it.

I liked the story well enough. Ghost stories are always solid options for me. I did have a hard time following along with the audiobook, but I think that was just a me thing, compared to the quality of the writing and narrating.

Somewhat like Jane Eyre somewhat like psycho!

Caught in death not in afterlife. Ghost story on drugs! Read it in the light.
