Final Battle by David Horowitz is a timely and relevant book. However, I felt I had already read about so much of the content elsewhere.
Thank you, Net Galley and Humanix Books, for the opportunity to read this book.
As others have noted, the title is somewhat misleading. Little is written about how or why the next election could be the last. That is, unless the author means the next election could be the last true two-party election. He makes the case that the Democrats would like to replicate California’s fall into a one-party state.
The book is mostly a compendium of the far left’s progressive policies which have led to a decline in our security and our standard of living. Horowitz provides compelling evidence, supported by extensive footnotes, that we are headed in the wrong direction. The information is more like a report halfway through this president’s term. And the future does not look bright.
The book is very readable. Perhaps its greatest value would be as a gift to inform those who get their news only from the mainstream media and CNN and MSNBC so they can learn what is being covered up.
David Horowitz may well be citing verifiable facts and statistics but FInal Battle, in attempting to justify the arrogance and misdemeanors of Donald Trump, is pushing a boulder up a steep mountain. According to Horowitz Trump was right whereas the Democrats, under Biden, are totally biased in their focus to not only discredit Trump but to undo many of the measures he introduced whilst President. In the opinion of this reviewer this book is more of a rant than an argument written by an author who clearly believes that the Democratic party is set on undermining the Constitution and fatally weakening the rights of American citizens. Portraying Trump as the saviour of America is always going to be a very hard sell and the bias, unconscious or otherwise, displayed by Horowitz falls well short of justifying this to be the case.
Definitely written well but it's exactly what you would expect it to be just like every other book worried about the future that are a dime a dozen at this point and maddening that they keep getting made.
This book was pretty interesting, but was very dismal in tone. It didn’t offer much hope for the future and focused so much on conflict in the world.
This book is written by a far-right ideologue, BUT it is very well-footnoted, so one can easily check each of his assertions. The overall tone is quite acerbic, so only those on the political right will enjoy reading it. I gave it four stars, but it could easily be a five-star book if one ignores the vigorous style.
I have been on a nonfiction kick recently and this one stood out for many reasons. I felt like I was in the moment with the author and I felt like the articulation of the circumstances were easy to understand which I appreciated with such a complex issue.
Very detailed about the happenings in the White House, including the past, and present it was a wonderful read and met up with the expectations, I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in reading this excellent piece. Kudos to Netgalley for the ARC.
As with most arguments, the truth tends to lie somewhere in the grey area. This book tries really hard to fall into that grey area, with some degree of success, but still falls into the occasional fallacy trap. There are parts of the book I would feel comfortable using to support a moderate-conservative argument when speaking to liberals; these are parts that tend to be less assertive, more factual, and less defensive. I don't disagree with the author's premise or arguments, but feel that they are still somewhat colored by ideological bias. Even though the facts are well-documented, if the only people reading this book are on the conservative side, then it doesn't do much to help further the cause, does it?
