The Angel Maker is one of my most anticipated reads for 2023, so what a TREAT it was to read the first seven chapters early. My love for Alex North relies heavily on the unique stories he tells, and the way he mixes in paranormal elements. I do not think this one is going to disappoint. By the end of the sampler I had all my lights on and was checking inside my closet (which is not easy for a book to do). With just that small snippet, the plot and characters already had me hooked. I was rooting for Chris, side eyeing Sam, and loving the quirky Detective Laurence Page. I cannot wait for release day!

This is my first Alex North book and to say, after reading this sample, I am kicking myself for not reading one sooner is an understatement . I was hooked from the very first page.
From the sample, i am invested in the characters and this book looks promising and I’m SO sad that I didn’t get the arc to the full book. Can’t wait to read the rest of the book.
Thanks to Celadon and NetGalley for this sample.

Alex North is the king of scary scene setting. Once you begin reading The Angel Maker you will not be able to put it down. This novel has multiple layers, a few different timelines and characters to traverse making it the perfect psychological thriller.
The story begins approximately 20 years ago when a young teen boy Chris is brutally attacked by a deranged man leaving his scarred for life. Then we fast forward to present day when a professor is found brutally murdered in his bed. He was a collector of the possessions of the infamous serial killer Jack Lock AKA The Angel Maker. As the detective's investigation begins, we witness Chris on surveillance cameras inside the professors home just moments before his death. How does Chris know the professor? Who is stalking Chris and his family? Why was the professor killed?
In unraveling the answers to these questions, we delve further into the past to the crimes of Jack Lock and the beliefs of the religious Deus Scripist chapter. So, how do you stop a serial killer that knows the future? Read Alex Norths The Angel Maker to find out.
5 HUGE STARS!!

This is just the first few chapters of The Angel Maker.

Katie, her high-school-sweetheart husband, Sam, and three-year-old daughter, Siena, live a comfortable life. Everything is going smoothly until she receives a call from her worried mother about her brother, Chris.

Chris was scarred as a teenager, but it seems he has been on the road to some normalcy. But Chris and his boyfriend James appear to be missing.

In the meantime, Detective Laurence Page is investigating a brutal crime - the apparent murder of a retired professor. When the watch the surprise video the professor has in his bedroom, they are shocked at the intruder.

After reading this sampler, I would definitely want to know how this book ends and how it all ties together!

Yep! Now I definitely cannot wait for the book. I really enjoyed Alex North’s other two books and with this sample I think his third book will be just as good.
Alex North is becoming a favorite author.

This is the first time I've ever read a "chapter sampler". I don't think I will do this again. It is too hard to wait for the real thing.

This book is going to be a must-read for me....but it would have been that anyway because I am a big fan of Alex North. This is the beginning of a dark thriller, that already has plenty of suspense, and characters I want to get to know.

I can't wait for the whole book!

I absolutely devoured this chapter sampler. The suspense built up right from the first few pages had me hooked. Alex North is one of the few authors whose work has kept me up from the fear that creeped under my skin. I had to put on some lofi music in my classroom to be able to read this today. I am eagerly counting down to February 28th!

This chapter sampler was just enough of a teaser to make me really want to read this book! Alex North is always a good go to for a creepy thriller and this one has all the makings to be another outstanding book. In just a few chapters, the groundwork for a solid whodunnit mystery is already laid and there is already solid character building in place. I look forward to getting a hold of this book when it releases in late February.

Thank you to NetGalley for this preview.

Oh my goodness! I need more!! The Chapter Sampler is really great and the perfect teaser to make anyone want to read the book as soon as it publishes.

The story is instantly captivating with action occurring from the beginning pages that holds ramifications throughout the entire story.

If you are a fan of Alex Finlay, Dervla McTiernan, and Grady Hendrix this is a read for you to pick up!

I’ve now set a reminder for myself to snag a copy the day it releases!!

While The Angel Maker is due out on February 28th, this chapter sampler offers an engrossing preview of the paths this book will take. In a prologue and seven quick chapters, we get a feel for the array of characters, different crimes that have taken places years apart, and how it all might be connected.

There are themes of knowing your future, being irreparably changed by a gruesome attack, and determining whether to trust your own instincts and desires.

I loved both of Alex North's previous novels, and it looks like The Angel Maker will be another stellar addition to his growing catalogue.

I've been seeing this book all over bookstagram lately and even though I'm not usually a murder mystery kind of gal, I figured I'd give this sampler a try. It seems like a great start to the book and I'm sure readers of this genre will enjoy it, but for now it's not enough to make me change my romance-loving ways. I'm always happy to have books of a variety of genres to recommend to other people though!

I know the point of chapter samplers is to want more, but in this case I feel like I needed more to make any sense of the plot. I didn't find much urgency in the story. Katie's urgent search for her missing brother who is chronically missing (just because her daughter said something about a red car) seems misplaced and I just don't think we're given enough to care about what happened to the professor. It's difficult to maintain excitement when every chapter ends in this shocking cliffhanger but not much happens in between, almost like the story is solely dependent on the mystery in the cliffhangers.

"If you could see the future, would you want to?"

A gripping and propulsive murder mystery with sibling dynamics and dual storylines that intermingle.

Thank you to NetGalley and Celadon Books for providing an early glimpse of Alex North's latest suspenseful mystery/thriller.
I can't wait to continue on with this story when it releases in February to see how the fates of Katie and her brother Chris unfold, as well as diving deeper into solving the death of this man named Hobbes.
