This is the 11th installment in the Candy-Coated Mystery series. Allie McMurphy and her friend Jenn are walking around the Mackinac County Fair and Jenn wants to go into the Haunted house and soon Allie finds the dead body of Mike Sanders and one of the owners of the haunted house. His partner Paul was locked in jail like cell and claims there is a murderer on the loose. Allie is once again a magnet for murder. Next Allie seems to divide the whole island again (like in her first book) when she wins best fudge and later best in show for the candy beating 20-year winner Christine who accuses her of cheating. Soon #teamChristine signs are showing up along the storefronts on Main Street. A team of viral podcasters surprise Allie to do an episode and everyone knows who they are but Allie and Rex and with Allie’s flair for solving crimes they decide to follow her around non-stop. This was a delightful and entertaining mystery with surprises at the end and with Rex and Allie solving the crime at the end of the day. The book also gives us a sneak peek of the next book and I can’t wait. This series is a winner and this installment definitely did not disappoint.
Give Fudge a Chance by Nancy Coco takes us back to Mackinac Island where Allie McMurphy is entering her latest fudge creation in the county fair. I always enjoy returning to Mackinac Island. I like the author’s beautiful descriptions of the island. She brings the island to life with her vivid word imagery. It sounds like a lovely vacation spot (I am not sure I would want to live there in the winter--burr). With the fair on Mackinac Island, everyone should be upbeat and relaxed. Unfortunately, competition brings out the worst in people. Allie and her murder sniffing pooch stumble across a body. I love the dispatcher’s response when Allie calls 9-1-1. Detective Rex Manning and Allie have reached an understanding regarding her investigating (which I believe is totally unfair). Rex only wants Allie to investigate crimes that affect her (a friend or family member) personally. The current crime does not which has Allie focusing on her fudge duties. It is time consuming making enough fudge to fill the cases and doing the demonstrations (Allie just needs to think about the dollar signs when she is up in the wee hours making fudge). When a second murder hits close to home, Allie dons her sleuthing cap once again. The ladies at the senior center are happy to help (after they receive some of Allie’s mouthwatering fudge). Allie has her work cut out for her this time. The mystery was fun to solve. I loved the addition of smugglers tunnels and parkour athletes. The crime is nicely wrapped up at the end. Give Fudge a Chance has great characters, cute furbabies, sweet treats, a county fair, and an entertaining mystery. I laughed out loud several times while reading. One senior provided many of the amusing moments. There are delectable fudge recipes scattered throughout the book. While Give Fudge a Chance is the eleventh A Candy-Coated Mystery, it can be read as a standalone. I have enjoyed reading the series in order. It has allowed me to get to know the characters and follow their journeys. I am looking forward to Allie’s next adventure in Three Fudges and a Baby. Give Fudge a Chance is a fun fair tale with delightful fudge, passionate podcasters, best in show skirmish, parkour participants, a mysterious murder, untidy tunnels, a discussion snafu, a stealthy senior, and a feisty fudge maker.
Allie discovers a body in the funhouse at the annual fun fair and her beau Detective Rex Manning wants her to leave things alone. But, she can't. She's a fudge maker who solves crimes on Mackinac Island in true cozy fashion- with her friends. This time out, there's also parkour training on the island which could have led to another death (but we all know it didn't!). Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC, Don't worry if you haven't read the earlier books in the series- this will be fine as a standalone, And- recipes!
Thank you NetGalley and Nancy Coco for allowing me to read “Give fudge a Chance” due to be published May 23, 2023 by Kensington books.
It all starts out with Allie wanting to go through a haunted house on Mackinac island where she finds a man dead. She’s soon thrown into a new murder investigation along side her senior pals. Will they be able to solve the murder before anyone else gets hurt?
This is the 11th book in the Candy Coated Mystery series and the 1st one I’ve read. The storyline and characters were amazing. I couldn’t get enough! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next. Will Allie and Rex get married?
5/5 stars for me! Keep writing these amazing cozy mysteries.
The plot of A Clue in the Crumbs is engaging and suspenseful. There are plenty of suspects to choose from, and the clues are well-hidden. The reader will be kept guessing until the very end.
I thought the mystery was well-written and suspenseful. I didn't know who the killer was until the very end, and I was surprised by the twist at the end.
It's a fun and heartwarming mystery that I would definitely recommend to others.
The supporting characters are also well-developed and add to the charm of the story.
3.5 Stars
A light-hearted cozy mystery set in a provincial town with country fairs, baking competitions, sleuthing book clubs, and smugglers tunnels. This novel is part of a long-running series but can be read as a stand-alone (I've only read this one so far, but I look forward to going back and reading the previous works). The MC's pets are as important as the human characters, and there are some yummy recipes scattered throughout. A scene or two may be a bit over-the-top, but overall, it's a pleasant read. For cozy mystery readers and especially a good choice for the Spring or Summer seasons.

Another tasty fudge mystery. I enjoy these mysteries set on picturesque Mackinac Island. Unfortunately, I find Allie's continued forays into dangerous situations to be slightly annoying. She seems to constantly be seeking out sketchy people. I was happy to see the nasty resident get her comeuppance. Talk about a sore loser. I was delighted to read the brief next installment and eagerly await its release!
“Give Fudge a Chance“ the 11 instalment in the Candy-Coated Mystery series by Nancy Coco. I really love this series and visiting Mackinac Island!
It’s summertime along Michigan’s beautiful Lake Huron, and sleuth extraordinaire Allie McMurphy is determined to win this year’s fudge competition at the annual Mackinac County Fair. But will a funhouse murder sour her plans?
I found myself engrossed in the story and reading in a day. The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and I loved the characters which are well developed. I especially love little Mal which reminds me of my little Lindi. I loved how Mal and Melba played a big part in this story. I think this might be my favourite book in the series but I say that every time.
I kept guessing and second-guessing myself on whodunnit right to the very end. I did figure out who the villain was shortly before Allie did.
I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends and can’t wait for the next instalment “Three Fudges and a Baby” to come out!
I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Kensington Books and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’ve read a few books in this series and it’s always a treat to read more. I love the author’s writing style and even though I haven’t read the past several, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good cozy!
I really loved this book in a new to my series and author. I can't wait to read the next one. The characters and location really add to the plot. This book keeps you guessing until the end
Such a great whodunnit with strong plotting and engaging characters. This is the first I’ve ready from this series. Looking forward to more.
Oh I really enjoyed this mystery. The clues were great and kept me hooked. Allie's friendships and the bookclub help investigate the murders. I really want to read the beginning of the series and I'm excited to see what happens next.
It turns out that Allie's tour through a haunted house was more than just a scary adventure, as she is now involved in another murder. Added to the turmoil, Allie is also constantly being followed by a zealous video blogger and his cameraman that want to capture her every movement.
There is never a dull moment on scenic Mackinac Island. There's a county fair, parkour athletes, smuggler tunnels and a murder or maybe more to keep the reader engaged. Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.
A body found in the haunted house at the county fair and the informal parkour training going on in town provide two new mysterious deaths for Allie to unravel without being a victim herself.
I enjoyed the mystery and as always, found myself craving fudge! All of the fun elements were there - Allie's crew and Mal helped and it was good to see the hotel/fudge shop growing. I had no idea "whodunit" and would recommend snuggling up and reading the latest adventure on Mackinac Island!
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I can scarcely believe this is the 11th book in the entertaining Candy-Coated Mystery series by Nancy Coco. In Give Fudge A Chance, the fun continues as the fair has come to Mackinac Island. The reigning queen of fudge is unseated by our main character--and does not take it kindly. Allie McMurphy is embroiled in another murder--quite by accident. She and Rex have a bumpy bit of relationship progress.
I enjoyed the addition of parkour, secret tunnels, and several yummy fudge recipes. It is always a pleasure to come to Mackinac and reconnect with these charming characters.
Thank you to #NetGalley, #Kensington Cozies, and #Nancy Coco for a digital ARC to read and review. All opinions are my own. I would recommend this to others who enjoy cozies, humor, fast moving plots, and charming characters.
GIVE FUDGE A CHANCE is the eleventh book in the Candy-Coated Mystery Series by Nancy Coco. From the absolutely adorable and fun-filled colorful cover to the action that starts right off the bat to the delicious sweets, this newest release pulled me in and kept me engaged throughout the entire story. It’s always a treat (in more ways than one… oh that yummy fudge!) to revisit Mackinac Island and catch up with protagonist, Allie McMurphy. If she’s not at her fudge shop, you can probably find her traversing the island with her darling dog, Mal, who has a penchant for finding bodies. Except this time around, it’s Allie who stumbles across the body of a murder victim, in the county fair’s haunted house no less. Ms. Coco brings the sights, sounds, and mouthwatering tastes of the fair to life with her strong descriptive skills. And I enjoyed reading about Allie’s foray into the fudge competition. Lest you think it’s a mindless distraction, the author cleverly weaves it into the mystery that the armchair detective should pay attention to.
As the story progresses, another body appears. This one seems to be the victim of an unfortunate accident caused by the person parkour training. I wasn’t familiar with the term, but the author did an admirable job in bringing the sport to life on the page. As Allie is pulled into discovering what happened, she finds that the two deaths might be connected. With twists and turns to keep the reader guessing and secret tunnels to navigate, the fast-paced plot kept me turning page after page to find out what happened next.
As owner of a fudge shop, Allie creates all sorts of mouthwatering delicious fudge flavors to keep her customers happy. There are several fudge recipes included in the book and they all sound fantastic!
I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was fun cozy mystery in a series that I have been reading for awhile. Allie continues to get herself involved in mayhem. There were a few points that seemed a bit farfetched for me. Her relationship with Rex and the coincidence of the two murders were just too much. It a quick and enjoyable read.
It was such a delight returning to Mackinac Island in Nancy Coco’s 11th book in the fudgicly-delicious A Candy-coated Mystery series!
Fudge-shop owner Allie McMurphy and her friend Jenn take a break from the Mackinac County fair candy competition and walk through a haunted house attraction only to find a real live dead body. Before long, a parkouring friend has a fatal accident on the rooftop of the McMurphy hotel, and Allie switches her chef hat for a deerstalker and hunts for clues to prove her friend was murdered.
Nancy Coco’s delicious series is always fun to read, but my sweet tooth really ramps up with all the mouthwatering fudge recipes! I really like how the character relationships have grown and evolved throughout the series.
While I’ve not visited Mackinac Island, the author brings the setting to life and I can easily picture where the story takes place.
As always, I look forward to the next in the series! Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for giving me the chance to read and review a favorite series.
The latest Candy-Coated mystery finds Allie investigating when she stumbles across a dead body at the local fair. Things get even more complicated when a parkour enthusiast winds up dead outside the McMurphy. Allie is sure these two murders are related. Can she find the culprit before there are more deaths?
Another great entry into this series! I really enjoy this cozy series, and it is probably one of my favorites out there! The characters are great and there is always just enough character development alongside the mystery without that being the dominant focus.
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Give Fudge a Chance by Nancy Coco is book #11 in the Candy-Coated Mystery series. This book has such an intriguing storyline. There's lots going on and amateur sleuth Allie McMurphy and her senior citizen friends are determined to solve the latest murder mystery. I really like the characters in this series. They are so much fun. Allie and Rex Manning are a great couple. It was fun reading about Rex's misstep. Following along with this couple in future books looks to be quite entertaining. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
