It’s that time of year and Allie is hoping to win the Mackinac County Fair fudge contest to help further her business. She takes a shirt break to enjoy the fair with Jenn, but they manage to find a real body in the haunted house and add sleuthing to their list of things to accomplish at this year’s fair.
With an accident at her place of business, Allie is convinced the two events are connected and ramps up efforts to figure out what is going on and who is behind it. Can Allie pull off another case, or is dies she risk more than losing a fudge competition this time?
I’ve been reading this series since I first found it and it never disappoints. This is the eleventh entry on the series and each one has been a solid mystery that leaves me wanting the next one the minute I finish reading the current one. I adore the setting and dream of life on Mackinac Island…who wouldn’t after reading these books?
Give Fudge a Chance by Nancy Coco is a great cozy mystery that is the 11th book in the adorable Candy Coated Mysteries series.
I just love this series and have read every boom thus far. Mackinac is a great location for this series, and I love reading about all of the characters, traditions, festivals, and the comings and goings.
This is the stage for the Mackinac County fair and that theme is threaded throughout the book.
Allie and Jenn have their work cut out for theme in more ways than one with murder, mysteries, escapades, and I enjoyed all of it.
The recipes are sprinkled within and I enjoyed visiting this wonderful cast of characters that I have come to really love.
5/5 stars
Thank you NG and Kensington Books for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Instagram, and B&N accounts upon publication on 5/23/23.
Confectionery cozy
Ms. Coco pens a winner in this new addition to the Mackinac Island Fudge Shop series. If you haven’t yet, you really should read them all.
She brings us an intriguing mystery, murders, missing people and great interaction with the story’s people and animals. Romance with a touch of humor add to the tale. Not to mention the recipes that I will have to try out. Yummy.
Allie and her friends, along with her detective boyfriend Rex, try to solve the first murder, as she takes care of her business, vloggers and a contest. Things heat up as the body count rises and they try to find the answers and run into more than a few dead ends. I loved this book!
I requested and received an ARC from NetGalley gratis and offer my honest opinion in the same.
Mackinac Island has a system of tunnels? Dang, I didn't know that. Thus, Nancy Coco has been successful in checking off one of the things that makes me most enjoy a book, it teaches me something I didn't know. Mackinac Island itself sounds like a bit of a magical, unique place. Based on what I've read, both here and in a quick search, yes, the chief mode of transportation there is bicycle, foot, or via carriage. As a horse crazy kid, I'm thinking I'd love to visit.
But, oh, yeah, the mystery. Addie McMurphy and her pregnant best friend Jenn almost literally stumble across a dead body in the fair's haunted house. Soon after, Addie's delight at winning the best fudge competition is ruined even further by accusations of having cheated by the winner of the past twenty years, Christine, and when a body hurls off the top of her building. Here was where I learned something else. Are you familiar with parkour? I wasn't and have to admit that hurling myself across high spaces (just a part of it) from one high place to the next holds no appeal. But, it's a real thing.
In any case, who killed Mike, the dead man in the haunted house? Is there any connection to the death of the parkour fanatic? Why are there signs sprouting up all over town taking sides for or against Addie or Christine? Will the Book Club ladies get involved in the investigation? If you're a past reader of the series, you definitely know the answer to that one. Addie's boyfriend, Rex, town police chief, warns her away from investigating but, well, one has a hunch he knows he's wasting his breath. Addie just can't help asking questions. Will Addie manage to get her trusty dog's daily walks in? She does seem busy. Why is handsome Harry being so helpful to Addie, even talking her into....well, never mind. You'll have to read the book to find out what Harry was able to talk Addie into doing. How will all this set with Rex?
Who is....oh, enough teasers. You'll thoroughly enjoy this book, not to mention the delicious sounding recipes interspersed throughout. I liked the fact that Addie had to show up to work, too, not always true in cozies. The characters are likable, seem like people you might know, and, oh, did I mention Addie is being tailed by some popular pod casters? Bottom line, lots going on to keep you entertained and enjoying your visit to Mackinac Island.
Thanks #NetGalley and #KensingtonBooks- #KensingtonCozies for inviting me to spend some time with Addie and the rest on Mackinac Island. I'm thinking a carriage ride is more my speed than tunnel exploration or parkour, however.
Allie and Jen are at it again.Fun cozy mystery set in the UP. County fairs, fudge recipes and dead bodies make an interesting combination. Would highly recommend this series and author.
It is summertime in Michigan and Mackinac County Fair is in full swing. Allie McMurphy, owner of McMurphy Hotel and Fudge Shop is hoping to win this year’s fudge contest. While on a tour of the haunted house at the fair, Allie and her friend Jenn stumble on a dead body and immediately call the police.
Soon after a woman falls to her death from the top of the Murphy hotel. Was it an accident or was she pushed? Allie begins to suspect the two deaths are connected and tries to put two and two together.
A cozy culinary mystery interspersed with recipes such as Champagne Fudge, Dark Chocolate Coffee Fudge, and so on.
Thank you to Nancy Coco, NetGalley, and Kensington Books for the arc of this book.
I absolutely love Nancy Coco's Candy-Coated Mystery series! Every time I read one, it's like I'm going home lol
Allie and Jenn on Mackinac Island have their hands full again with another investigation. I love that all the crew are so nurturing toward Jenn with her pregnancy. This was my favorite adventure so far! Two bodies, a carnival, tunnels, pod-casters and a first prize ribbon. This one is full of surprises through out! Allie and her pets are always on the case and solve the mysteries!

The latest adventure of Allie and Jenn on Mackinac Island. Allie is resident fudge maker and hotel owner, Jenn is her best friend and event planner, and soon to be mother. Allie and her little doggie always seem to come upon a dead body or two. This time she discovers a dead man, which might lead to another dead body or two. Rex, Allie's boyfriend and island police chief tried to keep her from investigating the crimes but she just can't seem to stay away. This adventure leads her to find some of the hidden tunnels under the island. The secondary story is that Allie wins the best in show at the local fair for candy. That does not sit well with 20 years in a row winner Christine. Some threats may have been made. The town could even be split as to who they side with. Whether you are Team Allie or Team Christine you will love all the t wist and turns in this story, and getting to visit with all our friends again. Can't wait for the next one.
Allie McMurphy shines again in this latest book by Nancy Coco.
There's something about this series that always makes me smile, and Give Fudge a Chance did exactly that.
Its always a treat catching up with these characters, and Allie's fudge recipes sound delicious.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of the book.
