"Alpha attacked" is your average spicy werewolf story. We have the alpha who is a big muscly guy (in this case a drug dealer) and a heroine (weirdly not in the twenties) who is dedicated to making good and healing people.

The story was short, spicy, with a good plot, and the writing was good, but it wasn't anything spectacular. 4 stars, because it was actually good, and I didn't have to deduct stars, but it certainly wasn't perfect, and didn't fall into my 5* reads, and respectively in my "favorites" bookshelf.

And because this was an ARC audiobook I have to comment on that point as well. As much as I wanted to enjoy it, I think the narrator did quite a bad job. If the book was duet would've been so much better, because the female narrator during the male scenes (especially the spicy ones) made me cringe so hard, I wanted to burrow my head in the sand. It's more of a producer's bad, than the narrator, because in the female parts she was dedicated, and actually showed a reaction, but her male voice was what make the book so unbearable at times.

However, if you want to read a short and somewhat spicy werewolf read, this is the story for you. And I do recommend you READ it, not listen to it.

I normally love reading books with werewolves in them and this book was ok. Its a short book so it didn’t take much time to get through. I love the narration of this audiobook bringing the characters to life. When Maeve saves a man with multiple gunshots and bullets still inside him what she doesn’t know is she was saving the local Alpha.
Griffin survives the bullets and now he’s out for revenge. He just has to figure out who shot him.

Overall this was ok and I’m looking forward to reading the other books in the series once they come out.

Alpha Attacked by Eve Langlais read by Juniper Young was quick and easy to get through. Juniper Young narrated well, though the voice distinctions between characters could have been more pronounced. I like Maeve’s strength and confidence. While reading I felt like the story was a bit rushed and with more time dedicated to developing the characters, this series could really go somewhere. There were a few plot lines that didn’t feel like they flowed through the story well and I was left feeling confused by the twists. I give this book 3 stars.

I want to thank NetGalley and RB Media for the opportunity to read (listen) to this book in exchange for my honest review.

Alpha Attacked by Eve Langlais
Big City Lycans series #1. Paranormal wolf shifter romance.
Maeve is a doctor in the ER. Things get crazy when it’s a full moon. That night she saves a man with multiple gunshots and bullets still inside him. Once she’s removed the bullets, he’s out the door. No sutures, no pain reliever. Weird. Probably drugs. Someone reports seeing a massive dog leaving through the automatic doors a short time later. Someone else says it was a wolf. What a night.
Griffin, as alpha of his pack, is strong and in charge. Getting shot was a nuisance but meeting his mate will change his life. The sweet smelling doctor seems to be in the middle of a war. Griffin will protect her. And more.

Danger for Maeve escalates and Griffin is there to help and figure out all the twists and connections. He’s a little bossy and dominating, but he is alpha.
Maeve is smart. She deals with most of the surprises with practicality. The heat and lust between her and Griffin is hot.
Maeve is a little too accepting at times. Bullet wounds don’t heal in a couple of days and as a doctor I would have expected her to question that more. She acknowledges it and then buries it in the back of her mind.

As usual with this author, there is a tease for the next book in the series as part of the text on the last page. If you don’t want to know whose book is next, skip the last paragraph.

It’s not deep. It’s not profound. It is a hot, werewolf shifter romance and fun to read or listen to. Entertaining escapism. I look forward to reading more of this series.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook version of this book narrated by Juniper Young. The performance was fantastic as there are very distinct voices for the male and female roles. The male voice is a bit husky and I want to say, suave, but not quite hitting the mark of sexy male. There is a lot of innuendo in the tone. The female voices were strong and on point. Overall, I enjoyed the narration as a good alternative to reading. I did speed up the narration to 1.5 after a chapter or two at 1.0 which was too slow for me conversationally.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Tantor Audio.

This was the first audiobook I listened to from start to finish and I liked it! This was a great first choice to ease into the audiobook experience.

The book was a quick listen (~4hrs), had a mysterious story line that kept the reader intrigued, it was action-packed, had a shameless and adorable alpha lycon love interest, and had just enough spice to make you blush.

Even though this was a quick listen, the background provided about the main characters really added depth and in my opinion took this book up a level. I loved that the characters were aged up and I really loved Brandy the FMC's bestie. I can't wait to listen to her story next.

The end throws you for a loop with a plot twist that you won't be expecting and it definitely made me like the book even more.

Would highly recommend if you need a quick action packed mystery, with insta love, wolf-shifters and of course some spice! Enjoy!

This book seemed like it would be interesting werewolf getting shot and meeting a doctor and falling for her. It started out good but it was kinda a bunch of nonsense.... beware of spoilers not that it would matter much...

Maeve a doctor treats a man shot 6 times who gets up out of the emergency room and leaves once the bullets are out. She reports it but doesn’t really think much about it until the next day when some guys threaten her in the parking lot asking for a box from her estranged father that she does not have. Griffin the werewolf wants to know who shot him and why and how the doctor somehow seems mixed up in it. Basically that’s the story it doesn’t really get more complicated than that. People want the box that she eventually gets and keep attacking her for it. Which was rather annoying considering for most of the book she didn’t have it and yet these pitiful thugs constantly were threatening to cut off her fingers. Does it never occur to people that someone is answering you truthfully? Especially when they have no idea what it is you want? In fact Maeve points out to Antonio if he had just asked her for it she would have given it to him. Thus saving everyone from a bunch of nonsense because it really made no sense. If he didn’t send people to bother her prior to receiving the box then he could have just gotten it.

The most ridiculous part of the book was the fact that Maeve never found out that Griffin, her father and almost all the bad guys coming after her were werewolves. She thinks they are part of sone type of mafia and they just keep letting her believe that when her best friend knows they are werewolves. I get that Griffin had some bad experiences with revealing his secret before but Maeve is a doctor though to be honest her dumb butt didn’t ask enough questions. Like how could someone who was shot multiple times have no evidence of it happening on their body? Nobody heals like that it’s not possible so why did she just brush it off? So bizarre that made no sense and neither did not telling her but the whole story was one of complete nonsense. And any odd thing that can be hit or miss but it sounded interesting and was the first thing I saw on netgalley so I gave the audio a try. It’s not that long requires zero investment and full of nonsense so it’s something to listen to if you are bored. If you are looking for something with any kind of depth or character development or plot probably don’t read/listen to this author at all you will be disappointed. This was not by far the worst book of hers I’ve experienced.

Loved Griffin and Maeve in this story. It’s been a while since I read a good shifter novel, so I was extremely excited to receive this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

The audio book overall was very entertaining and loved the story line and characters. The only drawback about this book that had me deducting stars was Griffin’s voice. It took me about 75% of the book to not think of a sly and sleazy guy every time Griffin’s narrator spoke - from the slow enunciations and overall tone, it did not match up to his character in the story for me.

I am invested in the storyline and will definitely be waiting to read / listen to the next one.

I really enjoyed the story, although I could have done with a bit more character development. I liked the narrator who did a great job for Maeve and the other female characters, but wasn’t keen on the voice she used for Griffin. I think he was meant to have a Southern accent, but he came across as sleazy rather than sexy. The ‘country cousins’ were fun characters and I look forward to getting to know them better in future books. It would also be good to have more involvement from Griffin’s pack, as they only made fleeting appearances in this book. To sum up, a good novella that has the makings of a really great series starter.

Honestly, it's a very good book. It is a short story. The narrator's are amazing, and you feel like you are right in the story. I loved how the book starts and ends. It is an interesting listen. I did have a point where I was like, wait, what, and I had to rewind to listen to it again. I heard this is supposed to be a series, and honestly, I'm excited and can't wait to see what comes next.

A straightforward plot that was easy to understand. I wish there were a bit more character development for the MC and FMC. Or background information about the wolves would've helped too. Overall, the story was a fairly average read for me. 3/5

Really enjoyed this urban/ modern paranormal romance. So many times paranormal romance books are set in older times which is much less entertaining. I am impressed. Even Dexter is mentioned. Things like this make the story so much more realistic. Thank you

3.5 Stars
This Shifter Gang Romance transported me to the early 00s wandering the Mass Market Paperback shelves of a Barnes and Noble. While predictable, it was also comforting, almost making it a cozy romance experience.
I will totally read the rest of this series.
Thanks NetGalley and Tantor Media for the audiobook edition!

Alpha Attacked is an exciting and thrilling adventure into the world of werewolves. We are dumped head first into a huge mess that already involves blood, so we know that lives are on the line. When snap decisions are required to move forward, we know what surrounds us is both life threatening and life changing in the most violent and ground-breaking ways. Nothing will ever be the same again and some truths will come to the harsh light of day at a steep price.

Maeve is just having another day when she finds Griffin in her ER. He brings an ominous air with him that makes her hesitate to jump head first into anything involving him. However, she can't deny that some part of her knows that he would protect her and never let anything hurt her. Moving on rusty instincts, she reluctantly steps into his world in order to find some measure of safety and comfort. Griffin knows there is something about Maeve that he just can't shake, and when he figures out what it is, her life is never the same again. He steps up to be her protector, but she has to accept him and his help if she hopes to survive the coming storm. Will those who hide in the shadows take what is most precious to Griffin, or can Maeve move past the warnings of her mind to accept what her heart knows to be true before time runs out and she loses more then she ever thought possible?

Griffin and Maeve shouldn't work, but when they come together it is truly whiskey and roses mixed with the sweet strains of music. They have a wild and untamed passion that will no be denied, and once they have a taste, they are not able to fight against it. There is more to Griffin then she ever thought possible, and that truth is the only thing that saves them both. These two have more then just the present to fight against. They are also forced to confront their past and either accept it, change it, or walk on by and forget it.

Eve Langlais opens a wicked and wild glimpse into a world within our world that is sure to delight and entrance. I have only read a few books by this fabulous author, but I have sincerely and deeply loved each one. They dig into the very heart of the characters, and they don't let go until there is nothing but truth left. That singular obsession has endeared her work to me without fail. I truly cannot wait to read more books by her!

Juniper Young brought life and wonder to her narration of this wonderful story. I enjoyed her immense talent, and I look forward to listening to more books with her direction.

I knew that this one was going to be a gamble for me as I was either going to love it or hate it. Sadly, I could not get into this one. I thought maybe I would put it down for a few days and try again, but I just never had that moment where the story grabbed my attention and kept hold of it. I did not finish.

I love a good shifter book. Unfortunately, this one fell short of my expectations. The plot was disappointing. The characters lacked depth. This was an ok tale but I was looking for Great!

If you like a handsome hero that is all alpha male and big all over then you are going to love Griffin! Do you love your heroine to be smart and sassy, then you are going to love Maeve! Add in an entire pack of witty, rough and tumble werewolves combined with a sharp tongued and outspoken best friend and you have the makings for a fun read or listen in my case as this book is meant to entertain! You've got opposites attract and verbally spar situation right from the start and it goes on right up to the end. Lots of twists and turns to the plot to keep you entertained with plenty of action in and out of the bedroom so this one should go on your list. I'm hoping that we get to see a bit more of the best friend and Detective Gruff in a future book so let's cross our fingers for that one to come out soon!

Werewolf with a twist. I liked how the lore was explained and was a new play on the werewolf biting trope. Pretty quick and easy read. Hits all the spots, angsty feels, on page sex, lover’s spat, confrontation with the big bad, happy ending. Good start to what is bound to be a fresh werewolf romance series in 2023! Can’t wait to see how things progress with Brandy and Billy!

To be fair, The beginning was okay, but after a while not so much. It felt flat, nothing special about it. maybe because I had so much expectations for this book…
I’ve not read a book about werewolves in a while so you can imagine how excited I was.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy for an honest opinion

Woo hoo, a new shifter series, and one with some grit! Loved meeting these new characters, finding out the new lore, and finding out what problems they face. Maeve and Griff meet unconventionally, but he soon realizes his problems are the same as her problems, just in different ways. Convincing her to let her help her, in conjunction with their growing attraction, he definitely has his work cut out for him. Another awesome aspect was, that while out couple most definitely get their HEA, everything isn’t all tied up neat and tidy, and there are still some messy stuff to come 😊
