I loved reading this witchy book right in time for spooky season! It was so much fun and I could not wait to get to book two.

It took me a long time to finish this book but I’m glad I did. The storyline was riveting, the characters entertaining. The only thing I didn’t like was the cliffhanger, but I’ve already got the next book on lock. Well done.

Rich urban fantasy of witches, sorcerers, shifters, power both old and new, secrets, and conspiracies. Old power rises, and the past blends with the present, but not everything is quite as it seems. Engaging and complex, romance but not, although definite simmer! A must read for paranormal fans!

Thalassa is a marvelous story teller with any series she writes. Bewitched is this beautifully dark enchanting thriller. The characters are complex and deep — and as a result? The romance is too.

Selene’s powers consume memories. Something I personally could not fathom at the still young age of 33. Each use of her powers in the novel made my heart ache, knowing it’s a toss up of what memories it consumes.

Memnon the cursed easily has become one of my favorite antiheroes. Thalassa easily writes him riding that grey area between victim and villain. The banter between him and Selene was great and felt authentic and honest.

The combination of witch academia and modern times meets ancient curses and spells in this book with a ton of rich storytelling while maintaining a gothic aura. This quick paced novel goes above and beyond my expectations.

This book was very boring to me. It felt very YA and I could not stand the main character. I was not rooting for the love interest and I was frankly bored most of the book. It's hard to get behind a fantasy romance when you don't believe the romance aspect of it.

Cliffhangers, cliffhangers and even more cliffhangers!!
I love that the FMC has magical powers and loses her memories when she uses the magic.
Couldn’t make it more interesting if you tried!

I was really into this book at first. But then I quickly lost interest. The beginning had a lot of promise and I thought the premise was cool. It's honestly more the writing I'm having an issue with. It isn't keeping me engaged. May try again at another time.

Thank you to Bloom Books for this ARC.

MEMNON THE MAN THAT YOU ARE.

Bewitched follows Selene, a young witch whose powers cost a high price- her memories. She awakens an ancient king who is convinced she is the love of his life, Roxilana. Unfortunately for Selene, Roxilana betrayed the King and he is set on exacting his revenge. The witchy, dark academia vibes set the atmosphere perfectly. The slow burn between our FMC and MMC was done exceedingly well, and instead of finding it irritating (which is my own problem) it sucked me in even more and I was hooked. It was an easy to follow, enjoyable story with a unique magic system, and it completely consumed my life during the time it took me to read.

Laura Thalassa, you continue to keep me in a chokehold.

Read this book if you like:

↬ review: 3.75 stars ☾ ❦
this book was a wild ride from start to finish, and the first half had me cracking up. the fmc was hilarious, with her refreshingly unserious attitude that just made the whole story feel so fun. i genuinely loved her personality because her wit and lightheartedness made her incredibly charming despite her thousand issues.

now, let's talk about memnon, our intense love interest. he's got that brooding, mysterious vibe a la damon salvatore going on, and while i'm not totally head over heels for him yet, i'm definitely intrigued. i see some serious potential for book 2 to have me swooning.

it's an urban fantasy, so the worldbuilding wasn't the most intricate thing ever, but who doesn't love witches, a coven, spells, and a good mystery? i was all in. that said, the second half got a bit messy with the plot, but it's fast-paced and packed with enough action to keep you turning pages. and can we talk about the familiars? i'm obsessed. nero is 100% my spirit animal, and i need more of him in my life. the concept of familiars was such a great addition to the story.

overall, i have a ton of questions that i really hope get answered in book 2, but if you're looking for a fun, fast-paced read with a sassy main character, romantic tension, and a lot of magic, this book is worth it. i'm ready for the sequel.

thank you, netgalley and laura thalassa, for the arc in exchange for my honest review. it means a lot to me, and i appreciate it.

This book is underrated and I want to tell EVERYONE about it. This is my second LT series, and while I didn’t love it as much as the Bargainer series, I can’t wait to continue. The premise of losing memories as you use magic is so interesting and unique. I have so many questions still, and with the cliffhanger ending, I’ll be picking up book 2 soon.

I'm a pretty big LT stan, I inhale her books even when they go off the rails. I enjoyed the start of this a lot, however the middle got a bit repetative and slow. Things picked back up at the end, but there was, for me, still something missing that would make this a usual 5 star. I'm going to see how book two is and maybe report back.

Fantasy romance with dashed of spice sprinkled throughout and I’m a happy girl 😉
I really like our FMC, Selene, who is a practicing witch looking to continue her craft… if only the use of her magic didn’t erase her memories! In the most organized and sparing way possible, Selene navigates her life with precision to make sure she doesn’t forget things.
Although, why is she being called on a quest? And being called into a jungle? And this new mystery man calling her another name?

Bewitched is a fun, mystery tale that keeps you wanting to know how the story ends. With all the fun of paranormals, witches, werewolves, and sorcerers, our author writes an adventure tale about what can come of a girl just trying to go to college. 😅

You know this just ate. What I mean to say is, I ate this up. Laura Thalassa made me a believer in dark romance, and I’m convinced that I will love everything that she writes.

This story follows Selene, who is a witch that needs to go on a magical quest to gain entry into the coven of her dreams. Side note, her magic eats away at her memories. On the way to this quest, a supernatural force (in the form of a man cursed like sleeping beauty) takes down the plane. Selene finds this man, and awakens him from his slumber. Unfortunately, instead of being grateful, he believes she is his wife who cursed him… and wants revenge. The story catapults on from there, and ends in a way that has me upset that the sequel isn’t out yet.

Has the tropes “touch her and you’ll die,” enemies to lovers, animal side sick (a familiar), and fated mates.

There are powerful witches, werewolves, familiars, strong friendships, tie ins from ancient history, and a magical school setting all bundled into a modern urban fantasy setting.

If you’ve liked Laura Thalassa’s other series, I’m sure that you’ll enjoy this as well.

It was much more than I expected!! Im amazed more people aren’t talking about this book. I loved it! Just good old high stakes fantasy romance with an innovative and different plot imo which made it complicated and deep and it was just a delicious read I couldn’t wait to pick the sequel immediately after. My only kinda pet peeve was the use of modern slang which kinda threw me off at times but that wasn’t enough for me to rate it any lower than 5/5 ⭐️

Loved it!! This author just keeps giving me 5 star reads. Thalassa has a knack for creating morally grey men that are “i’ll kill you” to “i love you” and are infuriating, but also gentle in a way that you can’t help but love them. I am incredibly upset with Memnon for his actions towards the end of the book, but I feel like some redemption is in store. Really he’s doing it because he loves her so much and just wants her to remember them but GOOD GOD man there is a way to do things and this is not it. But you bet I’m going to keep on reading because I am just eating this up!

Thank you NetGalley and Bloom Books for the copy for review!

I absolutely loved Bewitched by Laura Thalassa - definitely my favorite book of hers that I have read so far! This was a quick read with an interesting cast of characters and some of her better worldbuilding! I really liked that it held my attention all the way through the end and I will definitely be reading book 2!

At age twenty, Selene Bowers desperately hopes to be accepted into Henbane Coven, an academy for young witches. Since one of the requirements for entry is to connect with her powers via a quest through the wilderness, Selene books a trip to South America. When a nefarious supernatural force tries to drag her plane from the sky, Selene's magic awakens to save her life—at a cost. Using her powers devours her memories, one by one.

Worse, when Selene braves the jungle and discovers the source of the attack, she finds herself awakening an ancient evil, Memnon the Cursed, who mistakes Selene for his long-dead wife. The wife who betrayed him. Selene manages to escape and begin her studies at Henbane, but when Memnon turns up at the coven and witches are found dead across campus, Selene becomes entangled in a dangerous plot. Accused of the murders on the basis of her memory loss, Selene must rely on Memnon's help for answers—and his plans for her will change everything.

Bewitched is the first book in the Bewitched Series by Laura Thalassa. I haven't read such an entertaining book in a long time. Enemies-to-lovers? Count me in.
I was really intrigued by the story, especially about the reason behind Selene's memory loss and the secret surrounding Memnon. Why did he act the way he acted? The mystery behind all of this isn't fully revealed at the end of this book, so I can't wait to find out more about it and connect their past and the present. While I was working, I kept thinking about when I could finally continue reading again. And then it even ends with a nasty cliffhanger! Fortunately, the second book has already been published.
It was definitely a highlight of the year for me and I hope the following books will be just as good. Happy reading!

3.5 rounded to 4!

This was such a quick and intense yet fun read. Selene is an extremely unique FMC, I did question her decisions & dialogue at times. I haven’t read many books with the “memory loss” trope, but this one had me hooked and was super relatable to my memory issues with my chronic illness. I loved her post-it notes and her constant reminders to herself.

I did feel like the beginning was a little slow, but definitely picked up once she returned with her familiar. I loved the magical world - the different supernaturals and powers were described relatively well. I did still have a lot of questions about this world, how she got Nero realistically home, Nero’s actions as a familiar, the significance of the range of colors that witches powers manifest as, how they share power, and more about Memnon/Selene’s history - but I’m hoping that book 2 dives more into these as well as the million other questions stored in my brain.

I didn’t love Memnon from the beginning. He did grow on me, but I’m still on the fence with how I feel about him. I do feel like the “soul mate” aspect was used to justify a lot of crappy things that Memnon said or did & sometimes felt like we were going in circles with their arguments/actions. Though I will note also that Memnon never pretends to be anything other than what he is - a warrior/villain in love. I truly hope we get more backstory in the next book because that cliffhanger was more like a full stop or pause of action.

All of that being said, this was an easy read - it flows well there’s a lot of humor & modern dialogue (at one point Sybil references Tiger King), phones, etc. If you like magical systems, witches, wolves, mystery, enemies-to-lovers & a large sprinkle of amnesia, this is a great option for your next read.

WOW. A true enemies to lovers to enemies to maybe lovers? No they're definitely enemies. I didn't love the way it started off, it felt a little rushed, but man what a roller coaster of a plot and subplot. And the ENDING. Phew! Is it the best writing ever? No. Could I put this book down? Also no. The story and characters are compelling and keep you hooked.
