Bewitched is the first in a new urban fantasy romance series by bestselling author, Laura Thalassa. I’ve read this author before, so when I heard she had a new series coming out I was eager to read it. This series focuses on a word with witches and magic. Our main character, Selene is eager to get into the Henbane Coven for young witches but first she will have to prove herself by undertaking a magic quest. I loved that this story had some unique plot points which made this one stand out. Firstly, Selene’s magic comes with a cost, using her powers makes her lose her memories. This sets up Selene as an unreliable narrator which always makes for a great plot device as we go along with Selene unsure about what is the truth and what has been forgotten. The relationship between Selene and Memnon is intriguing and I’m looking forward to seeing how this develops over the rest of the series. Overall, this one was a fun, easy to read, light hearted and steamy romance read.
Laura Thalassa has done it again!!!!! I love her writing and the worlds she creates and this new world did not disappoint.
Selene is a witch who everytime uses her magic, she loses one or more memories. She has to keep detailed notebooks and lists and reminders to make to help her through her life and day. As she goes on her magical quest so awakens an ancient evil, curse, warrior King, whatever he is, he thinks Selene is his lost wife who put him in the crypt she awoken him from.
This whole magical world was fun to get lost in. I actually loved that Selene lost memories, it was such a unique storyline and I loved Memon. Not sure if he is good or bad but I can’t wait to find out.
I can’t wait for the next book and will continue to read anything that Laura writes.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Laura Thalassa for this book in exchange for my honest review.
Selene is a witch who forgets parts of her memory every time she uses magic.
I really disliked Memnon. He says Selene was his wife from years ago and instead of trying to help her remember, he torments her.
I kept yelling at him to STFU lol. I believed what he was saying but he was going about it all the wrong way.
I wanted Selene with the werewolf. I think there was also something there between them and a chemistry that could have been shown more.
Thank you to NetGalley and sourcebooks for the ARC to read.
I love a witch book no matter the time of year. When it's a Laura Thalassa book, I can't pass it up.
A witch that loses her memory when she uses magic and the cursed being she woke up that thinks she is the wife that betrayed him. Selene is a twenty-something that is trying to get into her dream coven when Memnon follows her to exact his vengeance, even when it involves beating lycanthropes that want to kiss Selene or kiss Selene himself.
Selene is more than she thinks, even if she did have a "normal" upbringing and she has enemies coming for her. She has no idea if Memnon is one of them or if he loves her like he claims to.
Her male main characters are always morally gray or downright evil, but with Mennon I couldn't tell in which category he falls, and that makes me more excited for the next book or novella that is coming we don't know when. But I need it now, Laura, now! And that ending, with all the questions I now have? I can't wait until 2024 for it.
And can I just say that the endearment he uses, est amage, gives me butterflies! I think it's my favorite from a book boyfriend.

I don’t think the MMC is redeemable at this point and that seriously took away from the enjoyment of this book.
There was a good initial world setup ( it was set in another of her existing worlds) and I liked the two prominent secondary characters-Nero and Sybil- but I am NOT liking Memnon. My feelings are still out on the female MC Selene. The girl has a serious problem with allowing herself to be manipulated time and time again.
Not. At. All.
Not. One. Bit.
Nope.
Here’s hoping the last quarter of the book was just a dream sequence ( I know, I know…..not really) and that there is a hidden reason behind his actions that will somehow mitigate or justify his behavior. *fingers crossed* (definitely, probably just wishful thinking)
And that ending….. what the heck? Why?
Oh well. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. The opinions above are mine and mine alone.
This book was a new experience for me with witchcraft and amnesia mixed together. It made it so interesting, and I really liked this book. I liked Selene's character a lot and how she didn't fall straight for Memnon. I also liked Memnon even though he had a-hole moments, which, sometimes... not all... he kind of had a right to be like that. I'm really looking forward to the next book.
There was a lot that I found intriguing about Bewitched. The premise and the world definitely drew me in, and Selene's relationship with magic had the potential to be fascinating. But ultimately, this just wasn't the book for me.
A lot of my issues stem from the fact that dark romance simply isn't my thing. I kept reading because I wanted to know where things were going, but there was never a point where I was into Selene and Memnon's relationship. Watching her constantly yo-yo between trusting him and hating him got exhausting, and while she seemed self-aware about the whole thing, it didn't make it fun to read.
My other issue with Bewitched was that it really was all set up. There was no satisfying conclusion at the end of the book, and very few resolved answers regarding the various plot threads. Obviously, this is a series starter, so some of that makes sense, but to have so many things left open was frustrating. I don't think I'll come back for Book 2, so I guess there's just a lot I will never know.
2.75/5
This was a real miss for me. The premise is the point that got my interest. It has a main character that is a witch, but constantly loses some parts of her memory when she uses her magic. It's intriguing, but the writing style isn't good and the plot isn't engaging either. The world-building is lacking and the dynamics between the hero and the heroine are so awful that it is difficult to read. Selene is so naive, too trusting, very flat, and always drawn to Memnon just because he's hot despite being treated badly. Memnon is a possessive alpha who often intrudes on Selene's privacy. I was also irritated every time he addressed Selene as "empress" or "my queen." It's too repetitive and boring. The story also finished in a weird way. The only thing I appreciate about this book is the familiar, Nero. I guess this book was really not for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for providing an arc of this book.
She did it AGAIN. Laura Thalassa will forever be one of my favorite romantasy authors. Every book of hers I have cherished and her newest book is no different. This book focuses on the supernatural like witches/werewolves/etc and not so much the fae and other world realms like in the bargainer series. But the romance is a red hot slow burn 🔥🌶️🥵 that keeps you fumbling your pages to get more. The plot follows a young witch riddled with memory loss and the impossible theory that she may be an entirely different person than who she spent her entire life believing. The end of the book leaves you foaming at the mouth from the biggest and sexiest cliffhanger. I CAN IT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE! pretty sure I will be buying this book to have a hard copy forever.
All in all the book is really a journey of self discovery and giving yourself grace to be who you are. To not get caught up on the anxieties of everyday life because then you miss out on the big picture and life just passes you by. I always love how Laura Thalassa’s books have an overarching theme all readers can relate to while delicately intertwining all the finer points of a magical realm that really make this book stand out above the rest.
This was an ARC, thank you so much to the author. Huge fan and I really can never get enough of her books!
This book was quite an adventure! It was fast paced and filled with action and twists. Selene is a strong-willed main character, who didn’t let her memory loss stop her from achieving what she wanted. Memnon is a powerful, passionate and vengeful character, who was well written, but I’m still unsure how I feel about him! I can’t wait to see what will happen in the next book!
Sadly this was a DNF for me. While I think the premise was great- The Mummy meets Witches and Werewolves- the main character’s telling of the story was juvenile to the point of annoying. I found this issue to be the same with her other books as well.
Thankyou to NetGalley for giving me an arc of this gorgeous book!
I am already a huge fan of Laura’s, after reading the bargainer series. So I was excited when this book dropped into my email.
A witch that loses her memory, the more she uses her magic, wishes to join a coven, but first, she needs to take a trip to prove she is worthy of the coven of her, choosing!
On the way she encounters obstacles, including an interesting anti hero MMC! I absolutely loved the chemistry in this book and I’m ready for the next one!
Tropes are :
❤️🔥obsessed hero/anti hero
🧙♀️witches/sorcery and werewolves
🥰Enemies to lovers
♨️steamy romance
Another stunning book from Laura Thalassa. So happy to be back with our friends from Peel Academy and I can’t wait to see where this series takes us.
Selene Bowers has a unique cost for her magic that has kept her from being accepted into a coven since her graduation from Peel Academy. Sent on a quest to find her familiar and her place, Selene may just get more than she bargained for.
The cliff hanger in this was 10/10. I can’t wait to see where this goes
Love how Laura writes. Her worlds are always so fun to explore. Was very excited to read this as it returns to the same world as her Bargainer Series. I went and purchased a physical copy as soon as I could!
Unfortunately I did not finish this book at 52% complete. I was dragging myself through it, so I knew it wasn't for me.
There was a lot of tension going on, but not much movement on the plot. I prefer my romance books to move (plot and romance) a bit quicker than this. I like them as an easy read.
This book did have a lot of strong points, and I will recommend it to my customers who enjoy Fantasy romance books. I think it had a good main character, and an interesting premise.
The romance just wasn't my style, and that's ok! A great pick if you like possessive dudes, fated lovers etc.
4.5/5 stars
I love Laura Thalassa so I was glad to have received an e-arc of this book. From what I have heard, this book takes place in the same world as The Bargainer but there are no crossovers. I really enjoyed the writing of this book as it's just like Thalassa's other works. I do have to say that from the summary, I was feeling a bit like I won't like this book but I LOVED it. I loved the world of the witches and how everything worked. The world-building could be better in my opinion but I'm to see improvements in the next book. I loved the storyline with how the murders, memory loss, and romance balanced out. I felt that nothing was too much and everything was well balanced. The pacing was perfect and I loved the many conflicts that were thrown into the book and kept me on my toes. This book is only written from Selene's pov and I loved her character.
The main character in this book is Selene who is a powerful witch but doesn't have good memory. Her journey was fun to read about though I have to say there wasn't much development of her characters. I did enjoy how she was trying to figure out what everything was happening in the world because honestly, I would've skipped town if I was her. Our main side character is Memnon and honestly, I don't know what to think of him right now. I won't spoil anything but man do I hate him or love him? He's a very mysterious character and I enjoyed that about him. There are many side characters in this book and I loved Sybil who was such a sweetheart. I do wish we got more of Kane and that he will be in the next book a lot. The romance is very steamy and there are enemies to lovers and soul mates.
The ending ends with a minor cliffhanger so beware because we don't know when the next book will be out. In a way, this is a dark fantasy book but the MC brightens it up. I enjoyed this story and don't know yet if I liked it more than The Bargainer. I will decide that after book 2. I do recommend it if you enjoyed King of Battle and Blood also Shadow and Bone.
I have been lucky enough to read several of Laura's books in advance, and I cackle at every one of them. Oh, are these comedy books you say?
No, definitely not but… you will get gems like this, and this is what I come and stay for…
"I swear the big cat is giving me a look that says, 'You're a fucking witch. Spellcraft that shit.' But you know, I'm probably just reading into my cat's expression too much."
And yesssssss, you will get the hot overbearing male-- this one covered in tattoos which I've confessed many times is my weakness,-- sexy tension, and the inevitable hotttttttttttness when that tension break. But still, I'm here for the cat commentary.
Thank you Laura for another hot male, a likeable MC, and the cackle.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy, this is my honest review

Laura Thalassa is one of my favorite authors.
And this book was no exception.
There is no pressure to the world that Thalassa builds (if that makes sense), and I enjoy that.
They are always fun quick reads!
I was so quickly engulfed into a world full of magic and soulmates and mystery.
This was a surprisingly exciting yet cozy read. I just imagine picking it up on the fallest of days, and it just giving all the vibes.
Selene and Memmnon are hot.
I had an incredible journey reading Bewitched! I loved Laura Thalassa’s previous books and this one didn’t disappoint! This book has all the amazing essence of the author. It’s a an action packed, sexy and dark tale that explores different aspects of witchcraft. Loved the twist of a witch that loses her memory every time she uses her powers! Definitely recommend this book if you are a fan of witches, demons, and dark tales. This story has amazing characters, sexy forbidden romance and a plot and a mystery that will leave you wanting more! If you enjoyed Laura Thalassa previous books definitely check this one out!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an e-arc of this book in exchange of an honest review.
Love the concept! The romance felt a little too fast for me, but maybe it's because I'm more of a slow burn fans. For me Selene & Memnon are like a young adult version of Callie & Desmond, also by Laura Thalassa (Bargainer series) since they breathe the same "soulmate" air. Like every other book by Laura I've read, I enjoyed how easy this to read and I adore the banter. Can't wait for the sequel!
