This was sooo good.
This book was so sexy and dark and magical. Just what the witch-doctor ordered. It was written well and kept me turning the pages well past my bedtime.
I mean the MC’s familiar is a freaking panther. What. Vengeful, hot ex? Alright, if you say so.
I loved everything about this book. Put it on your list. That’s all I can say.

DNF @ 35%.

I'm choosing to DNF because this is my first Laura Thalassa book, and I've heard SO many great things about her other series. And Bewitched is just not doing it for me.

In short:
* S0 many things happen to Selene in the first 30% of the book that I feel like we don't even have time to dive into how these things make her feel. We don't spend enough time in her thoughts. For a book written in the first person, we're not given enough time to actually connect with her. These are MAJOR events that she is experiencing... and we just move onto the next one. This was the most frustrating part of my reading experience.
* It feels like too many plot points and too many romantasy/witchy tropes are trying to be checked off way too quickly.
* I feel very little connection to either MC and felt almost no connection between the two of them.
* All of the characters I met felt very juvenile.
* I only got 1/3 of the way in and the story was very repetitive.
* Memnon is intended to make us swoon, but he just makes me uncomfortable.

Overall, it wasn't for me. But I look forward to trying a different work by Laura Thalassa.

Thank you Netgalley, Bloom Books, and Laura Thalassa for an ARC of Bewitched in exchange for my honest review.

*I do not rate books I DNF (nor do I rate/review DNF books on other sites), but because NetGalley requires one, I give 2 stars for the 35% that I did read*

Big thanks to Laura Thalassa and Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for a review.

I've read the bargainer series and the four horsemen by Laura and really enjoyed them. This one felt a lot more 'young' than the other series. But bad, just more YA than new adult.

I enjoyed the witchy storyline and I want to know more about the werewolves and the the dark secrets the whiches are hiding.
I'm giving 3.5 stars, rounded up cause I have high hopes for the rest of the series.

I've been a long time fan of Thalassa's work now. Probably my favorite series will always be the Four Horseman's, I constantly re-read War, but this is probably going to be me second favorite of hers. It was such a wild ride and I loved the world that she sets up here. Adored how the magic works and the connection the two main characters have. I can't wait to see what comes next.

Thanks to NetGalley, SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books and Author for a copy of this e-arc in exchange of honest review.

First of all, i’m really sad that i already finished the book and it will took me a while to finally read the next book again, but it’s so WORTH IT.

I love love the witchy and supernatural vibes that the author offer, and it’s so fun to see how the magical system works for witches and i believe that the next book we will go deeper through how the magic work between other supernatural being.

As for the characters itself, my favorite so far from this book is actually Nero, the witch familiar. Ahh, Nero is so cool and collected and care about Selene a lot but kinda don’t want to show it.. AHHH it’s so darn cute especially their interaction in the woods and when he grows feral over witches that try to hurt Selene.

Selene is so organized and meticulous and i really like that part of her. She doesn’t let her own lack of control of her magic tithe, which is losing a part of her memory let her draw away from magic and coven, it makes her more resilient. Her friendship with sybil, i’m looking forward for more of it because in this book i kinda feel like we lack of the interaction between these supposed best friend.

Memnon are just so intense, wicked, morally corrupted and have dubious intent towards Selene… He’s an a** most of the time but that revelation at the end thoo🥺🥺

Ahhh i can’t wait to see their relationship unfold and how Memnon and Selene will functioning in the next book!! Oh, and don’t forget about my fav Nero!!!

If you like:
- Paranormal Romance (Witch, sorcerer, lycanthropy)
- Mystery
- Cool magic system
- Morally dubious MMC
- Cursed/magic quest
- Cute pet (re:familiar)
This book is definitely for you❣️❣️

Selene Bowers is a witch that has a love/hate relationship with her magic. She loves the feeling she gets when she uses it and everything magic can do. However, it all comes at the price of her memories.

While on a trip to South America to complete her quest for admission to Henbane Coven, a mysterious source of magic attacks the plane. Selene goes searching through the jungle for the magic source and is surprised with that she finds. Memnon the Cursed. After she inadvertently awakens Memnon, she finds herself being confused as the wife that betrayed him.

I loved Laura Thalassa’s Four Horsemen series and was excited when she announced Bewitched. Let me just say she did not disappoint! I thought the book being told from Selene’s POV was interesting because, with her memory loss, it leaves the reader questioning what really happened as well! I think this also made me enjoy the world building so much more.

I have mixed feelings on Memnon. He’s a villain and sometimes I didn’t like him… but I really need more of him. I loved the scenes of them together and seeing him bring out a different side of her. With that ending, I cannot wait to see what happens next!!

If you like,
-magic system/witches
-possessive mates
-enemies to lovers
-slow burn
I highly recommend!!

One of my top reads so far this year. I finished it in less than 24 hours, once I started I just couldn't put it down.

There's magic, murder, mystery, tension, angst, an ancient vengeful sorcerer and a sprinkle of spice...what more could you want?!

The world building and magic system is fairly unique as well honestly I just loved absolutely everything about this book, I can't wait for the next in the series!

Bewitched - ebook

5 ⭐️

WTF. This book. This was such such a good book. I don’t usually read ebooks but I was soooo sucked into this story. Selena is a witch who loses her memories when she performs magic. She want to get into a witch academy so she tries to find a familiar. On her search she accidentally awakens an ancient evil called Memnon. He mistakes her for his wife who locked him up in the first place. He wants revenge but also wants her. At the academy witches start dropping dead and because of her memorie loss Selena is the main suspect. Selena must depend on Memnon to find answers. But can she even trust him?
I loved pestilence by @laurathalassa but this book was just literally amazing. I can’t freaking wait to read the sequel and this one isn’t even out!!! Thank you to @netgalley for allowing me to read this incredible book!
I’m off to start reading more @laurathalassa

I really love the premise to this story. A witch who loses her memory every time she uses her magic isn't something I've ever read before, and it makes for really good plot issues. This was a super fast-paced read, with a steamy romance. Selene, our main character, is very strong, resilient and stubborn at times (when she needs to be!).

I did have an issue with Memnon. He is penned as an anti-hero, but the relationship between them really fell flat for me. He is very hateable, and I found myself wishing that there was another love-interest that she would end up with. Also, being an urban fantasy I did go into it expecting modern vernacular but when the main character thought 'cool beans' to herself, it really threw me out of the narrative. It was very jarring. I also felt the world-building and secondary characters were a bit underdeveloped.

I LOVED this book! Let me just say that I can't wait until the next one comes out and I will make all of my friends, coworkers and book buddies read this. Selene is a witch that loses part of her memory every time she uses magic. While on a magical quest she accidentally unleashes a King that has been bound under a 2000 year old curse. The next problem is: he thinks she is his wife. This story is enemies to lovers, bound mates, makes, witches, werewolves, angst, murder mystery, spice and tension. I couldn't put this book down! Absolutely 5/5 stars!

Oh. My. Goddess. Laura you're really going to leave us hanging like that?!?!

Amazing as always! I will literally read Laura Thalassa's grocery list at this point.

What I really loved about this book is how real everything felt from the characters to the world and even the familiars. I liked the little touches added throughout the story like, how Selene got to read all her favourite books for the first time again. We've all wished we could do that! Selene was was super relatable to me, I also have an inner 82 year old who should probably let loose a little!

Thank you for writing such amazing books Laura Thalassa! I cannot wait for the next one!!

Ooof... what a cliffhanger. This book has a fantastic premise. The FMC, Selene, is a magic user who loses memories whenever she uses her magic. She is an unreliable narrator because of this and it has huge consequences by the end of the book. Memnon is definitely a villain love interest and towards the end of the book I had a love/hate relationship with him. I have a feeling in the next book my thoughts on him will settle one way or another. And we'll get more backstory on these two.

Wow! I was not expecting this!

I loved Selene! She’s the type of heroine I can totally get behind. Strong, confident and feisty, she’s also struggling due to an issue with her magic. I was constantly worrying about her each time she cast a spell. I wanted to mother her into reconsidering when she used it. I couldn’t help but try to predict what was going to happen next in the story and each time I was completely wrong. She’s definitely a unique heroine.

Memnon gave me shivers. He was a dark and dangerous presence before he was fully embodied and looking for revenge. Built like a dark god and with immense power, he’s a force to be reckoned with. There was no way Selene could hold her own against him. He really knows how to woo a girl though, despite her determination to keep him away. He kept me on edge as to what his next actions were going to be.

This is layered with so many smaller storylines that pulled me in and kept me engaged. I loved all the mystery, the uncertainty, and the overall feel of impending doom that effortlessly flowed through the story. It’s a longer book but was over way too fast and ended with a cliffhanger, dang it! How did I not know that? Nevertheless, I’m in it for the duration!

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!! Run and get this book! Laura Thalassa kit this out of the ballpark and I can’t wait until the next book comes out. It’s absolutely amazing. She takes us back to peel academy and expounds on that world with witches and warlocks. Selene and Memnon are perfect for each other. When it ends you don’t know which one has been released to the world. Absolutely amazing.

Absolutely loved this book. I was immediately hooked. The best comparison I can draw is to imagine Khaleesi and Khal Drogo in a modern magical Earth 👑👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨

The romance was great. The pacing was quick. The plot was very entertaining. The world building was simple and easy to grasp.

I think it’s the perfect romance book with a hint of suspense and fantasy. ❤️⁉️

It felt a little predictable. But that being said, I was never bored. Definitely looking forward to the next book. I didn’t want it to end.

Things are just getting started and I WANT MORE. Fair warning, for all my people who want a full series/hate cliffhangers; this one is a doozy 😅

What a great read! I love Laura Thalissa's books and this one was no different. Such a different take on her usual style of writing. The Cliffhanger was crazy and I'm anxious for the next book because I did not expect THAT! I honestly wonder how we move on from this point or if redemption is the theme of the next book. We'll See!

I liked the Bargainer series from Laura Thalassa but did not really like the Four Horseman series, so I did not really know what to expect from this book. This said this book has a lot in common with the Bargainer series. The magic world is very similar, it is a contemporary world where magic creatures like witches and werewolves live. We still have the concept of soul mates and of a love that goes beyond death and years. However, I honestly think that in this book the love between the two main characters was not something that I enjoyed or cheered for and, since it was the main focus of the book, it did not allow me to be invested. The male character seems only a giant asshole and, even if there is space for him to learn and improve in the next books, I could not go past my impression.

In summary, if you loved the Bargainer series, you will probably enjoy this book as well. If you do not know Laura Thalassa writing, this book could be for you if you enjoy spicy fantasy romance with soul mates. Be aware that this is NOT standalone.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bloom Books for the opportunity to read this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

As soon as I saw this book was written by Laura Thalassa, I knew I had to have it. I actually screamed when I found out I got the ARC because I absolutely loved The Bargainer series. I enjoyed The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse as well, but The Bargainer had a love that pulled me in and kept me engaged all throughout the series. I figured Bewitched would be the same.

Selene is a young witch who is pretty unique among her kind. She loses memories every time she uses her magic. It's such a detriment that the Henbane Coven of witches, a group she desperately wants to join, is hesitant to let her do so. Her magic causes her harm, so much so that Selene has resorted to keeping notebooks detailing all the things she needs to remember about her life. Henbane tells her that if she finds her familiar and goes on a magical quest, she'll be able to join. Finding your familiar is no small feat and in fact, she's always learned that your familiar finds you. Nevertheless, Selene sets out to travel to South America and see what she can do. As she does, she feels a tug on her magic and someone calling her empress while she's on the plane. Magic pulls her down, literally, and she's off in the Amazon. Suddenly, her familiar finds her and that mysterious voice guides her to a tomb. Selene opens it and every single thing in her life changes from there. What has she released upon the world?

This didn't hook me the way Laura's other two books did, but the end made me super curious what's going to happen next. I have a gut feeling that book two is going to be way better than book one, which may have just been setting the stage for a pretty epic story.

It's past midnight on a...now it's Tuesday, and I have fucked my day tomorrow. Completely and thoroughly fucked. This book is like if The Mummy Returns did the do with Harry Potter (we don't support terfs but I'm tired and can't think of another analogy), with just a dash of Memento to spice it up. And it WORKS.

I went in fully blind because that's my brand of chaos, so imagine my delighted surprise when my latest stress and sleep-deprivation-induced slump faded away thanks to a very natural writing style and a heroine that I truly enjoyed. Her flaws only make her stronger, and while it could feel gimmicky, I think that her reactions were so relatable that I just completely accepted it.

Nobody mind me, I'll just be haunting Laura Thalassa's social media for word on book two. I've had The Bargainer and Four Horsemen on my tbr for entirely too long, so hopefully they can tide me over. And hopefully she writes quickly.

Seriously, just read it.

I have read books by this author before and I’m so glad that I read this one. There is romance, spice, mystery and murder. I loved the aspect of reincarnation and soul mates that transcend time. Memnon was not my favorite love interest. He just kind of seemed like an asshole. Hopefully he will get better in the next books in the series. I want to know more about Kane the werewolf and also the werewolves in this world in general. This book does end with a cliffhanger unfortunately so I will be waiting anxiously for the next book to come out,.
