This book was ADORABLE!
A woman happens upon some secret lover photos of her grandmother’s, after her passing. A TikTok post of the pictures goes viral, and she ends up taking what was to be her grandmother’s honeymoon trip, with the long-lost secret love of her grandma, and his hot grandson, who just happens to be her old high school nemesis. What could possibly happen?
Noelle and Theo were the cutest, both trying to hide their true feelings at the start. And the grandpa was very endearing as he completely set them up from the get-go, unbeknownst to them.
As the trip progresses, Noelle and Theo get to hear the long lost and ill-fated love story of their grandparents, while creating a new love story of their own.
This was had been sitting in my NetGalley queue for way too long. The wait was worth it. Super cute!
A sweet enemies to lovers romance encompassing grief, finding your self, and the person who accepts you for who you are. I liked the inclusion of the grandparents in the story.
You, with a View was an addictive, fun romance that had a surprising amount of depth and emotion to it. I knew I wanted to read this as soon as I saw that it was a road trip plot. I LOVE forced proximity in books and this one delivered on that front. And to bring even more fun to the plot, the main characters were former high school rivals. Two of my favorite tropes in one! And the characters themselves were great, layered, complex people. I won't soon forget Noelle and Theo. Jessica Joyce is a fantastic writer and I am looking forward to reading more of her work.
I finished this book days ago, technically, and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I did. What a wonderful debut, featuring a terrific rivals-to-lovers romance against the backdrop of a road trip element and occasional forced proximity/only-one-bed conceits just as the cherry on top. I really enjoyed Noelle and Theo's dynamic throughout this one, especially given that their rivalry seems like it only heats up, or becomes better-dimensioned, once the romance is in fuller swing. This one came highly recommended by my pals on Goodreads and my only regret is that I didn't read it sooner.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this edition from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5 stars. Unemployed photographer Noelle finds a trove of old letters and photos that point to her recently deceased grandmother having had a secret love in her youth. She goes on TikTok to see if anyone recognizes the man in the photos, and—in the kind of coincidence that only happens in romance—the man’s grandson replies and turns out to be Theo, her old high school nemesis. Soon, she and Theo and his grandfather Paul are off on a nostalgic road trip, recreating a honeymoon that never was, and giving Noelle and Theo way too much time together.
This has all the best tropes, including forced proximity, there’s only one bed, and more. A very sweet story.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC to review. All opinions are my own.
Oh my gosh I cannot believe this was a debut! I absolutely loved it. As someone who recently lost a grandmother a little over a month ago, this one gave me all the feelings. Paul was my absolute favorite. He and Theo reminded me a lot of me and my papaw too, and it was just an all around amazing read.
This was such a great debut by this author. This was a romance that was layered with depth. I found that this was relatable to anyone that has lost a grandmother, especially if you were very close. I related to Noelle so much in that way. The banter between her and Theo was fun, but short -lived. I think they quickly fell in love which is not my favorite in romance. I would've liked to see them banter a bit more, especially since it was a mix of banter with flirting. All in all it was a cute read and is great for the summer. If you're a fan of Emily Henry you might enjoy this. If like me you're not you still might enjoy this. Highly recommend.
I love reading road trip-themed romantic comedies and this one didn’t disappoint. Especially enjoyed the section about Zion National Park and hiking Angel’s Landing.
I'm going to start by saying this review is 100% personal and takes less into account the work as a whole and more my feelings about it. I think it's only natural for us to put our personal feelings into a review, even if sometimes they are unfair. I also thought this was a YA book when I first picked it up, and found out that it wasn't so that was a bit of a surprise.
I think the idea for this story was really good and really interesting. The main character Noelle finds a picture of her grandmother when she was young with another man that isn't her grandfather and wants to find out who he is. Since this is the digital age she goes to Twitter and finds him. He is the grandfather of an old high school classmate & academic rival. They end up on a road trip that the grandparent couple were planning to take, but due to circumstances that didn't happen. I thought this was a really cute idea and was here for it. I think the main reason why I had so many issues with the book, was because of Noelle herself. She seemed like she could be such a great main character - in the beginning she's struggling after losing her job and having to move back home. She is still grieving from the loss of someone important to her and seemed like someone I could really like and get behind. Then she had to go and be an outright tease, which I just can't stand in a book. She started using everything in her power to make Theo want her after telling him that they couldn't do anything because it would ruin the trip, didn't want to get his grandfathers hopes up - so he could look but not touch. I'm all for empowering women - but I find all to often in fiction, female characters ride a fine line between confident and bitchy. I'm sure there will be many people out there that love this book and don't mind the way the female MC is written, but I just really didn't care for her, and at around 40% it really hit a boiling point that I just couldn't stand her. So much so I didn't want to read anymore, her personality destroyed the book that much for me.
Thank you to #NetGalley for an e-copy of #YouwithaView by Jessica Joyce to read and review.
Oh my gosh I cannot believe I put off reading You With a View for so long! This was angsty, swoony, heart warming perfection. I am such a sucker for forced proximity romances and adding in the high school rivalry of Noelle and Theo made this story even more delightful. Jessica Joyce’s writing gave me all the feels, she handled the sexual tension of these two so well. And how she writes about grief? 10/10, no notes! I cannot wait to read more books from her. This quickly became one of my top reads for this year, all the stars!!!
Contemporary romance is my favorite and this book was absolutely swoon worthy. I also love books featuring older people, in this case grandparents. It was so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. The forced proximity of Theo and Noelle made me giddy. I was so invested in the their story as well as the mystery of old, lost love between their grandparents.
This arc was kindly given to me by Netgalley and the publisher for review. All opinions are my own.
I really liked this book!! It was both fun, spicy and heartfelt as it deals with the loss of family member, loss of identity and sense of purpose and romance in unlikely places. A reminder that when you look at someone who seems like they have it all together, it isn't always true. and really, who doesn't love an enemy to lover, road trip, only one bed trope all rolled into one book?
INCREDIBLY WELL DONE enemies to loves and forced proximity. I can't believe this is the author's debut, it's way too good!
I thought this was a charming and relatable story about a young woman dealing with the loss of her grandmother and her failure to launch her photography career. I wish there had been more of her rivalry with Theo on the page before they were hooking up, and I also would have loved to have heard from their HS friends about this relationship developing - wouldn't more people notice or care or have opinions? Did either of them still have any high school friends? I also wish there were more to the road trip and the sights. I do love an intergenerational friendship, though.
This gave me all the feels. It was so well done, a great plot, great characters and wonderful tension. This gave me Emily Henry vibes and I loved every second of it.
This one was just okay for me. I did finish it and there were some positive aspects, but I can no longer really recall them in detail.
I loved "You, with a View" by Jessica Joyce. The characters, the plot, the setting, the dialogue. Five stars :)
Let me introduce you to my new favorite romance: You, With A View! I love a romance with layers and depth. This one had both and took me on quite the journey!
In a snapshot:
🗺️ Scenic road trip
👩🏼❤️💋👨🏻 Enemies to lovers
🛌 Just one bed
🗣️ Banter and humor
📝 Dual timelines through letters and storytelling
I fell hard for all of the characters, and thoroughly enjoyed every leg of their road trip and emotional journey. What a fantastic debut! Out now! 5/5 ✨
This book had so many elements that I normally love, but I struggled to get invested in the characters, their journey, and the romance. I truly can't pinpoint what it was, but it just didn't work for me. And while I didn't love this one, I plan to give Jessica Joyce's new book a try, because even though I didn't love the characters and storyline, the writing was definitely good!
This book came highly recommended to me by a bunch of my friends - and honestly, I think they didn't hype it up enough. You With a View is easily one of my favorite reads of the year - and has made Jessica Joyce an autobuy author for me.
Noelle and Theo's banter was SO good - in every interaction, their chemistry was just incredible. Their tension was also off the charts - heightened by them being in such close proximity all the time. Theo was a lowkey simp for Noelle - even when he was hiding it and being generally grumpy and sassy, I loved how their mutual roasting was clearly them flirting. The PINING OF IT ALL! AND HE HAS A DIMPLE (a very important detail). Noelle was also a really great lead - I loved her journey from start to finish - of her finding not only love but a new dream for herself.
Paul (Theo's grandfather) was my surprise favorite character of this book. He was total meddler - and the president of the Noelle and Theo ship. Reading his letters with Noelle's grandmother was simultaneously so heartwarming and heartbreaking - he added depth of emotion that really tied the book together.
While the romance was amazing in this book, I also really appreciated the representation / handling of grief. Noelle lost her beloved grandmother before the events of the book, and much of the plot is about her learning who her grandmother was and unlocking her history. Her grief was so real - but it didn't overwhelm the other emotions in this book - it was balanced well with the moments of joy and romance.
I can't recommend You With a View highly enough - it hits the perfect balance of having two leads with amazing chemisty, excellent banter, swoony moments while also handling the topic of grief with grace. It's an excellent debut, and I can't wait to read whatever else Jessica writes. Also, I highly recommend checking out her holiday novella, A Risk Worth Taking! It's fun and steamy and impossible to put down.
