Bea is a successful ad executive who was tired of the rate race. She moves to a small town and embraces a simple, lazy life. She meets Officer Austin Cooper, who is 10 years her junior. They both love pie, and have so much fun exploring their town! What happens when Bea is offered a big job - will small-town life be enough? Super sexy and very cute.
Breaking All The Rules by Amy Andrews is such a wholesome, feel good rom com about Bea, who has just abandoned her life in LA. After missing out on the promotion to Ad Executive at the firm she’s spent years proving herself at, Bea finds herself in Credence, Colorado where she’s hidden away in an apartment binge watching Supernatural and drinking beers for breakfast. Then she meets Austin who is a very handsome, much younger police officer who always knows exactly what to say. Austin sets out to help Bea live a life very different from her one back home in LA.
I was hooked in this book from the very first chapter, I loved Bea’s f-it attitude and her absolute disregard for societal expectations. Austin is so sweet and warm and willing to do anything for her. Bea begins to relax into her new life and works through some personal struggles and outside pressures while really finding a home within the new friends she’s made. I wish we got more of an insight into her background, life in LA and her family. Also I’m generally not a huge fan of 3rd act breakups but you kind of knew it was coming and the author wrote it very well. I also wish there was a male narrator for Austin’s POV, it would have made his perspective stronger.
But overall I really enjoyed Bea and Austin’s chemistry, the steam definitely came through in the audiobook. I want to thank NetGalley and RB media for the audio copy in exchange for an honest review. I’m very much looking forward to ready more from Amy Andrews.
Bernice left her future up to a dart and where it landed on the map. She ends up in small town Colorado where the most orgasmic pie awaits her, along with the cute cop who is 10 years younger than her. Bernice has decided that she will do everything she has never done before and Austin, the cute cop is on the list. As Bernice and Austin’s relationship develops L.A. calls for Bernice to come back to the advertising world. Bernice has a choice to see where her relationship with Austin goes, even though he is younger or back to the rat race of the business world where all her dreams she has worked for can come true.
I liked how the author didn’t make the age difference creepy or portray Bernice as a cougar trolling for younger men. I also liked that she was just a mess and didn’t care what others thought. She was comfortable with herself sexually, she found the courage to ask and do things she wanted and not have to have someone else tell her. That confidence is alluring to some men/women.
I started listening to the first chapter at normal speed and then at 2.0 for the rest of the book. I liked the narrator, and they did a good job conveying the various emotions of Bernice. I’m not sure why but I kept laughing at bunny slippers.
Bea is a woman after my own heart! She’s a former Ad Executive. Bea realized she is done with corporate BS and is embracing breaking all the rules. She is helped by a cute younger cop in the small town she moved to. Wow is Austin 🥵. To start with he is constantly bringing her pie and the cutest ugly cat named Princess. This is a fun andsexy rom-com that will have you cracking up. Plus pie solves all problems and this book is evidence of that.
For the love of pie and hilarity, this novel was EVERYTHING. I swear all of us have an inner Beatrice that is one annoying kid, bad boss, frustrating man-child or just unnecessary adulting moment away from flipping it to the universe.
Mia Barron was an excellent narrator. Perfect amount of feeling, well timed voice smirks and just overall flow was wonderful!
Bea drops her life and hightails it to Credence, Colorado after the hard work she has put in for years at her job goes overlooked yet again (thats just the tip of the iceberg). All the time she's put in for a company that could care less while watching every morsel she eats, looking polished and keeping the professional image. Add to that ignoring any form of a social life and hardly any self care... well I think anyone would end up double-fisting two ice cream cones in 50 degree weather looking like a hot mess in bunny slippers in the middle of the street too.
Not only was this literal laugh out loud funny but the chemistry between Officer Austin and Bea is perfection. I loved building up to when they finally gave in and kicked off those delicious steamy scenes.
The one part in every romance that is a hit or miss for some is the inevitable reason for the breakup before the HEA. The author did this part well. A lot of the decisions between Bea and Austin were adult and not overly childish. Though I might've been internally screaming at the "breakup to makeup" part, I didn't feel it was over the top and loved how it resolved.
This is a total five star read for me. I highly recommend this age gap (not by too much) sexy romcom read to my HEA loving romance readers! And yes, it gets all hot and bothered in those pages.
thank you for the copy of the audiobook.
I just adore books, where the main character drops her whole life and moves to a rural cute small town with perfectly annoying gossips, and perfect scenery, and cute horses, and found families.
Beatrice was an interesting character. Even while I didn't relate to her personality, the storytelling makes it easy to understand her boundaries, her fears and her actions. Her story and emotional journey to finding her passions and happiness in life was encouraging and the writing from 3rd person's point of view fit really well.
Officer Austin Cooper was an inspiring love interest. His maturity was evident which proves the point of not judging a person by their age. I liked that while Austin was a decade younger than Beatrice, their experiences in life were completely different which from the start should have showed Beatrice that their age gap should not be a problem.
I like books with a bit more angst and in my opinion they got together relatively fast but that's just my preference and it is not a big deal as it did not drag out the story.
All in all, it was a fun, light-hearted steamy listen with yet another new book boyfriend.
Bea has always been a follower and that stops now. She loved to a small town in Colorado where no one knows her name and is living her life on her own terms. Then she meets Austin, the younger small town cop who just wants to help her break all the rules.
She's living in the shadow of who her mother was and who her dad wants her to be but she needs to find out exactly who SHE is. Bea fights her feelings towards Austin because he is younger and she thinks he deserves better than her, but when is it ever ok to make choices for someone else? I am glad they both came to their senses and communicated at the end. It wasn't just some fling and they both deserved to be happy.
I loved the narrator, she did an amazing job.
Thank you to RB Media, Amy Andrews and Netgalley for an early audio copy.
I enjoyed reading this so much Breaking All the Rules is just a really fun read, cosy with a mix of spice, and really likeable funny characters. One of the main things I loved was Bea was super successful and smart but doesn't let money define her and just enjoys the simple things in life (especially Supernatural) - this just made me love all her "rule breaking" and wish I could be her and chill out all day. I also loved her chemistry with Austin, their banter was really cute and instead of having a lot of cliché arguments they actually communicate with each other.
Mostly this is just so fun to read and it easily absorbs you into the characters - I recommend for anyone who wants a nice, cute romance with some more mature parts.
When 35 year old Beatrice Archer (and her panties of the day) arrive to the small town of Credence, Colorado, she never imagined she might be the interest of the 25 year old hot town cop, Austin.
In this escape-to-a-small-town-to-start-over, reverse-age-gap romance, we find a successful heroine and a hot hero, and get a look back at the other characters from the previous characters.
Author Amy Andrews writes a smooth flowing storyline, with some fun banter and characters...including a cat.
Breaking All The Rules was an enjoyable read!
**AUDIO REVIEW**
Mia Barron did a lovely narration. This was a single narration, even though it is a dual POV (3rd person). My preference is dual narration, but she did well!
I really enjoyed this small town age gap romance. Austin and Beatrice are so fun together and I love how he brings out the best in her and encourages her to try new things. Bea adds excitement to Austin's life and together they have amazing chemistry and a few steamy scenes. The contrast between her city life and his country life was an adventure for both of them. I listened to the audiobook and Mia Barron does a fantastic job and I was totally caught up in the story. I'm hoping for more books in this setting!!
I absolutely loved Bea's character at the start of this book, and was 100% loving where this story was taking me...then the author decided to change almost everything about the book.
The setting, Bea's personality & job, even the romance, as you may imagine this changed my feels towards the book.
I would still suggest it if for no other reason than I want your thoughts.
I just would have preferred the small town setting romance without all the flashy changes.
Small town setting with pie? That was pretty idyllic.
I will say, Mia Barron is a fabulous narrator and I look forward to finding more projects she was in on.
As always, thanks to NetGalley & RB Media for my DRC.
Oh how I wish I could care as little as Beatrice did when she first arrived in Credence! To wander around with messy hair and bunny slippers In search of sugar? That is the ultimate! From corporate life to day of the week underwear Beatrice slowly develops into a character that she is happy to be! I love how Amy Andrews gives us glimpses of the old Bea, contrasting the new Bea so very well. Cranky Bee is me favorite!
The slow and steady step into a relationship between Beatrice and Austin was highly entertaining. The age gap truly only bothered her, but Austin was kind and respectful despite his desire to go all in with this relationship. It was interesting to see the younger, male partner being the mature and thoughtful one. The spice was just right too!
I would have loved to hear how the relationship between Bea and her father changed once she finally admitted what she truly wanted from life. It looks like it was headed in the right direction, so I guess I’ll have to be left guessing. But mostly - I really wish I had some pie!
I wanted to like this book. Honestly, I hate giving ARCs low ratings but this was just a big fat NOPE for me. The narration was personally not for me in general. We quickly learn that Bea is a sugar addicted, angry, sex deprived workaholic that has escaped to CO for a fresh start but not so fresh that she can be considered anything like her mother. By chapter three, the word “panties” had been used so many times that not only had I lost count but the word itself had lost all meaning to me as well. The dialogue and interactions between the love interests just felt cringy and too unrealistic and nothing about this book worked for me.
Breaking All the Rules by Amy Andrews is a classic city girl meets small town boy romcom.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
It definitely had some funny moments and some relatable moments. Small town cop and city ad exec meet and grow together. It was cute. However, the age gap romance and insta love plays a major role in the story that felt strained.
The audiobook narration was excellent and I think they definitely picked the right person to this story to life. The narrator’s tone was perfect.
Please beware of spice and language present in this book. Only read what you are comfortable with.
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This is a good one. I enjoyed going through the journey of Bea breaking all of the social norms. She and Austin were so much fun together. I loved the older woman edge alongside her confident cop. This one made me laugh out loud. The narrator did a great job telling the story. I felt like I was there. Would def recommend this easy read for anyone looking for a read with a delightfully spicy kick. #BreakingAlltheRules #NetGalley
“Bea gives exactly zero forks. Beer for breakfast. Sugar for everything else. Baggy sweats and soft cotton undies FTW. Then a much younger and delightfully attractive cop is called to deal with her flagrant disregard for appropriate clothing outside the local diner (some folks just don’t appreciate bunny slippers) and Bea realizes there’s something missing from her little decathlon of decadence…and he might be the guy to help her out.”
Awe, I liked this one.
I liked how Bea eats pie like it’s her job. I like the age gap that didn’t come off as skeazy and predatory. I liked the fact that she made new girlfriends as an adult. I LOVED the cat.
I didn’t love the sex scenes. I know she’s all about throwing off the shackles of societal expectations, but I get zero front-bottom shivers from an encounter that has in it the phrase, “I’m going to ride you, cowboy.”
The best thing about this book is the doors left open for sequels.
I’m looking at you, Sheriff and Erotica Author.
7/10
Thanks to NetGalley and RB Media for this ARC.
When Beatrice gets passed over for a promotion at work, she decides that she is done with the corporate world. She moves to a small town in Colorado to just be herself when she meets Auston Cooper, a young, hot cop. She is determined to not follow by any rules and definitely breaks all the rules with Austin.
I loved the back and forth between Austin and Beatrice. They really knew how to get under the others skin, but also make each other comfortable. They definitely had chemistry that shows in the spicy scenes. The struggle Beatrice had in deciding to go back to the corporate world or stay in Colorado was relatable, but I do find it un-relatable to just quit a job with now plan, but maybe thats just me and my type A personality. I thought it was a cute story, but just didn’t have the wow factor for me.
4.30⭐
Featuring ~ dual 3rd person POV, cop, small town, reverse age gap (h~35 & H~25), steamage
Bea & Austin were both great characters.
Bea was fun, didn't care about her appearance and she could dog a pie like no other.
Austin was a super sweet, hottie boom bottie cowboy cop.
Bea was really hung up on the age gap, but I found Austin to be very mature for his tender age of 25.
The inevitable 3rd act breakup was for the birds and I hated what was said.
FYI ~ the door is wide open for the steamage.
Overall, pretty delightful and I'd be very interested in reading more from this author.
Narrated by Mia Barron for 11 hours. She did a pretty good job, but we all know by now I prefer a male narrator when I'm getting a dual POV ~ even when it's 3rd person.
Amy Andrews - what an incredible author! I adore this lady! I adore this series! I would totally answer that Facebook ad and move to Credence, Colorado (the one where they advertised for women to move there because they didn’t have any). This series, and all of these characters, are just… brilliant! I love that I got to revisit the town I fell in love with several books ago with Grady and Suzanne’s book (The Trouble with Christmas, book 2), and continued with Wade and Cecilia (Nothing But Trouble, book 1), and now I have to go back and read Asking for Trouble (book 3). Nothing like reading a series entirely out of order! (2, 1, 4… 3)
Amy - I know I begged you back when I first read book 2 that we need Winona’s book. This is even more critical now, after she and Arlo featured so prominently in this story! I am desperate for her/their story!! Please, please give us a book 5 that is her! I’m on my knees begging you!!
This book! I enjoy a grumpy gal and super-sunshiny guy, but throw in the 10-year reverse age-gap, the hesitation to give him the time of day that she eventually gives into, the mid-life and career and passion crisis that Bea (Beatrice) has to overcome before she might be open to discussion about her actual passion for art, attraction to Austin, or anything else that isn’t in the life plan or goals drilled into her by her Dad and Grandmother (with her Mom’s issues)… it’s a tough conversation she just won’t have, and poor, patient, and adorable Austin is the one in her bulldozer path. So. Darn. Good!!
I loved - LOVED - this book! Don’t let the length (about 400 pages, and 16 hours audio) intimidate. It’s worth every single second! If you’ve read any of the other Credence, Colorado series books, or even if you haven’t, you will wish it was even longer! I can’t wait for more of all of these characters and more Credence, and I completely recommend this one (the entire series) to every single person out there! Excellent steam, perfect pace, the best characters and plot, and repeat characters from the series with some big roles from former ones.
Audio is performed by Mia Baron, who’s voice suited Beatrice (Beatrisssss) so well! Great job! I don’t think I’ve heard anything from her before, but I sure will look for her again!
I received an advance review and audio copy from NetGalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC, Entangled: Amara and audio from RB Media, Recorded Books, and this is my honest feedback.
Thank you to NetGalley, RB Media, and the author for an advanced copy of this audiobook.
Bea Archer is ready for a fresh start in a new, unfamiliar place and she’s breaking all the rules. She has always been one to conform and not color outside the lines. Not anymore. Beatrice drinks beer for breakfast, eats what she wants, and dresses as she pleases which leads to her run in with town officer Austin Cooper. He is attracted to her quirkiness and no cares given attitude. Bea must decide whether to pack it up and go back to the corporate world LA and leave everything that this charming little town has to offer or to make this living arrangement one of a more permanent nature.
I loved this book and the narration. I would definitely recommend this to friends and fellow readers.
