This was such a great suspense story! I love a family driven thriller and this was just that! I felt creeped out and nervous while reading, and that's just what you want. The cover is beautiful and has me wanting to preorder a physical copy for my shelves!

I was anticipating being able to give this a high star review based on reviews. However, I really don't understand the high reviews on this. I thought it was repetitive, and I guessed whodunit midway through. Sorry to say that I was very disappointed in this, but I seem to be in the minority. I don't know whether I would read this author again after my experience with this book and her other, The Family Plot.

1 ⭐️. Well there’s 3 days of my reading time I will never get back. I do not understand the high reviews on this at all. Are they personal friends of the author? Did they even READ the book? This was HANDS down the most annoying book I’ve ever read. I won’t say the WORST because a mystery/thriller book that had a talking house currently holds that title. But this is a very close second!!

I was going to write this review with spoilers but then I thought to myself why bother, there’s really nothing exciting to spoil. I figured out who killed Gavin by 50-60%. It wasn’t a shocker and the ending wasn’t even exciting. The whole book was a long, repetitive SLOW BURN! The characters: Sienna was the worst. Julia wasn’t much better. The only one that I somewhat liked was Wyatt.

Ok, so if you already read the book then you might have picked up on my little “HANDS down” comment above. The reason this book was over the top annoying was the references to hand holding, touching fingers, interlocking hands….over and over and over again! 😖 I swear every chapter mentions hands in one way or another. I wish I would have counted how many times. At 50%, I was screenshotting every mention of hands and sending them to a couple of my friends to see what they would think. I sent them each 32 photos!! And some of those pages having hands mentioned multiple times. Again, this was just from 50% to the end and not even every time it was mentioned. I was seriously at the point that if I saw “hands” one more time, I was going to throw my kindle. Being that this is an advanced copy and can still be edited, I BEG you to go back and change this!!! Although, honestly even if you take out the hands, I still wouldn’t recommend it.

I will conclude by saying that I did read The Family Plot, and I actually really liked it. Sadly, I hated this one so much that I won’t be in any hurry to read any more by this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an advanced copy in exchange for a very honest review.

I loved the introspection that both narrators went through with this book. It felt honest without being too much or exhausting. Sometimes when a book is too much in someone's head I get tired and want to know what is actually happening, but this was a perfect balance. Also, the solution to the mystery was there all along, but you had to cut through what each narrator was feeling and thinking to see the actual facts.

The point of view switches between two narrators and the shifting narrative is well done. Each voice is unique and clearly different in tone, emotions, and perspective. The developments in the story are often dramatic, but don't feel too thriller-ish or unrealistic. I also laughed out loud at the interactions with the teenage son - definitely brought back memories of dealing with middle schoolers.

I was able to read this for free thanks to Net Galley, although that does not affect my opinion of the actual book. It took me a second to get invested in the plot of this story as the beginning seemed to happen so abruptly and it threw me off. Ultimately, as much as I hate leaving bad reviews, this book just didn’t keep me interested and I found it a bit boring. Props for the cute cover though!

This is an interesting mystery book, although it focused more on a relationship between Julia, Jason's wife, and Sienna, Jason's sister. Jason is accused of murdering his boos after he is involved in a car accident and incriminating evidence is found in his car,
There is also another storyline involving Sienna and Wyatt .

This one just wasn't for me. It was a "thriller" but all of the thrilling parts are just being told to the reader - this is honestly more of a cozy mystery as the main characters investigate and try to figure out what happened. I found a lot of the character interactions and reflections incredibly repetitive and the mystery itself underwhelming. However, for people who want a thriller lite will enjoy this. And it did for sure keep me reading.

I liked this one but not as much as I hoped I would! It was still an enjoyable read that kept me entertained from start to finish though! I would definitely consider it more Mystery than Psychological Thriller/Suspense…not a lot happened that would be considered suspenseful/thrilling in my opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley, Megan Collins & Atria Books for an arc of Thicker Than Water in exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own & may not be reproduced.

Megan Collins is a favorite author of mine so I was thrilled to receive an advance copy of her thriller. The plotline intrigued me immediately because it sounded different that the same old thriller plotline.

Julia & Sienna are friends & sisters-in-law, tied together through Sienna’s brother, Jason, who is Julia’s husband. Jason’s boss is found brutally murdered. Soon after, Jason is in a vehicle accident & put into a medically induced coma. It then comes to light that the police are looking at Jason as the prime suspect. Julia & Sienna work together to clear his name. Sienna remains steadfastly loyal to her brother and refuses to consider he could do anything wrong, but the further they get into their digging, Julia starts to think she doesn’t quite trust what she believed about her husband. As you can imagine, this tests the bounds of Julia’s & Sienna’s friendship.

This was a lightening fast read!!! This one of two novels I sat down & finished in one sitting this past Saturday. You will not want to put it down. You might even bring it along to the bathroom! LOL – it’s THAT good!

The characters were crafted perfectly. I felt like I really knew these characters and the feel of the book is very atmospheric, which I LOVE because those are the types of books I can really lose myself in.

If you’re a thriller/suspense fan, I highly recommend giving this one a read when it’s out on July 11, 2023. You do not want to miss this gem of a book with a completely shocking ending!

I have rated it 4.5/5 Stars

I really wanted to like this one! I usually don't love dual points of view but I think it really worked here, though I wish we got more Julia and less Sienna (by far my least favorite character). The pacing was great, causing me to speed through the entire book in a day because I had to know what happened! I just didn't love or connect with either of the main characters, and the ending fell a bit flat. It was a decent, quick read though and I'd definitely be interested to see what the author puts out next. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Oh my goodness, I love all of Megan Collins’ books and this one was another hit! Absolutely amazing writing and the characters are always top notch. This one kept me guessing the entire way through and was surprised by the ending!

I think this falls more into a domestic drama category rather than thriller. That being said, it was just okay for me. I liked the dynamic between the two women although both were a little naive in their own way. But when a story focuses more on a relationship between two friends/sister-in-laws than a man and his wife, I already give it an extra star because so much of what we read is always solely focused on the romantic relationship, and anyone outside of that be damned. The story was as I said okay but it held my interest the entire way and I flew through it, so all is not lost. Overall, I'll give this Three and a Half Stars.

Thank you Netgalley and Atria Books for this ARC.

Thicker Than Water by Megan Collins is quite a fast-paced book. I could not put this book down and read it in one day.

Two sisters-in-law find themselves at painful odds when the man who connects them—the brother of one (Sienna), the husband of the other (Julia)—is accused of a brutal crime. This book had some great twists and turns. There were times I really didn't like Sienna and her unwavering loyalty to her brother, but other times it was so heartfelt how much she wanted to believe her brother. The story is told from alternating viewpoints from Julia and Sienna. Sometimes it got a bit confusing as each chapter changed to the other character.

This is a good domestic thriller with well-developed characters. The ending did feel a bit rushed, but overall, a good mystery and solid storytelling.

I would recommend this book and this author. I will check out more books as this author is a good storyteller who crafts a solid suspense mystery.

An ARC was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a great mystery! My 2nd by Megan Collins and it didn't disappoint. The plot moved at a great pace, relatable characters. I really enjoyed the last 25% of the book. Great ending. Definitely recommend. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC

Thicker Than Water is a fast-paced, murder-mystery that questions how well you know the people closest to you and whether blood is in fact thicker than water.

I was hooked from the first pages and loved getting both Sienna’s and Julia’s perspectives. Their relationship is entirely defined by their connection to Jason, Sienna’s brother and Julia’s husband. When he is accused of murder, their relationship is put to the test. Is Jason still the hero Sienna knows him to be, despite the hurt he’s caused Julia? How can she reconcile that version of her brother with the one who has always cared for and protected her? Can Sienna still be Julia’s best friend when she keeps putting her idolized version of her brother ahead of what Julia knows to be true about her husband?

This had a lot of great plot twists and I enjoyed the exploration of the relationship between the sisters-in-law. I loved how Jason’s character was portrayed entirely by how he is perceived by his sister and wife. The character development was extremely well done. If you love domestic thrillers, then this is one novel you won’t want to miss.

Thicker Than Water follows two best friends (and sister in laws) who’s relationship is put to the test when Julia’s husband Jason (Sienna’s brother) is in an awful car accident the day after his boss is murdered. Jason is in a coma and can’t talk to police, so things start to spin out of control with the investigation. Julia and Sienna’s trust, loyalty and friendship is tested as the investigation plays out.

I haven’t read anything by this author before, but I enjoyed this book. It was nicely paced, kept me guessing and had a few red herons thrown in. I’d recommend this book to as a nice quick read.

While this book had the elements of a thriller, it was so much more than that. This story was about two women, sisters-in-law Sienna & Julia, who are drawn together by friendship and marriage and find themselves drifting apart during a murder investigation. As Jason, the man they hold in common and who is currently comatose, is under investigation for murder, the two women find themselves diverging in their belief of this innocence. However, the saddest part of this story was seeing the breakdown of the sibling relationship between Sienna & Jason as she comes to realize that the brother she idolized was not who she thought he was.

I would argue that the murder investigation part of this novel was not all that exciting, but the relationships that developed and devolved were enough to carry the plot.

This was my first book by this author and WOW it did not disappoint! This book kept me on the edge of my seat through all the twists and turns. I kept flip flopping sides between the sister in laws and when I thought I had it figured out, nope, another twist! I will definitely be recommending this book.
