3..5 ⭐️ — if you want all the mystery and knowledge about the poisoning plants with humorous traits. This one for you!
I’m glad that Clementine was quite herself in the book rather than the second one. She is back with her humorous remarks and sarcasm in a good way. Also, Margery’s way of thinking was improved a lot in here and all the Dinner Lady took part on solving the crime! I’m so happy and almost screaming when all of them has their own part on solving it. Even though not enough or like sort of team play on solving but at least we get the whole Dinner Lady in! Oh, Rose
here has beautifully written characters especially when she screaming about HEIST! That’s my favorite
The storyline was too much. For the mystery, it all packed up into one thing but I don’t think the writing is that good. Because mostly, everything goes round and round. Yes, it does make the readers wondering but for most part on my end, it confused me even more— not in a good way. Also, it took place outside Dewstow! FINALLY, we have another place for Margery and Clementine play the detectives!
The Moral of The Story and Issues this book hold quite focusing on (1)Family. It’s good because, it’s a small village where the setting was and brings up lots of families traits in the book represents the village. (2)There’s different traits about the villagers or the locals and the outsider. How it treated and everybody treated each other. Quite remarkable, actually. (3)Coping mechanism, walking, to ease your mind while you have too much happening in your mind. That’s memorable.
Overall, I enjoyed this book as much because of Clementine and Rose. Then, the author give The Dinner Lady’s member to took part on solving the crime is quite amazing! We need more of them. However, the mystery writing of this book about the connection, the murderer, the poison and other stuff quite confusing not in a good way for me. It would be much better ifs:
🔹the writing about the mystery not goes round and round especially about the truth,
🔹Only one perspective isn’t enough, but when its too many. Whose telling the truth? and those two can solve it when they are amateurs? NOPE,
🔹The ending on the cliff was NONSENSE, she should be written more tragedy on it into good conclusion
However, this book give me few knowledge about poison and it also has a plus. Event though there isn’t much telling about British Culture again or any kind that indicates “BRITISH”, this book is amusing. If there is any other book about Clementine in the future, I would probably look for it!
I enjoyed this cozy crime, but I did find some of the characters annoying - - but not the main 2, and felt there were a few loose ends that I didn't quite believe. However I would recommend this for a holiday read.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
The Dinner Lady Detectives are back, with more crime to solve.
Clementine and Margery have gone on holiday but also it’s to help with Rose’s upcoming wedding to Mr Barrow, the head teacher from the school that the ladies work at. Nearly as soon as they’ve arrived at their hotel, things start going awry. Everyone keeps looking at Clementine like they’ve seen a ghost, and she can fathom why. And then, naturally, someone dies in their presence, making them the local police forces number one suspects. But, Clementine and Margery are sure they can solve this riddle and uncover the village secrets.
This is another instalment from this series, and is just as funny and cosy as the previous two. I love Clementine and her dry wit and humour, and Margery is the perfect partner for her, as they balance each other out. The whole story just fits so well, and it makes for an enjoyable, light hearted read. I love the crime elements with the fun side of things. And it’s always quite a puzzle to solve who is guilty. The characters are written so well that they are just perfect for their roles and really easy to picture in the minds eye. I love the “rivalry” between Clem and Rose because the remarks between them both just fit so well in keeping with the book. I can’t wait to see what Clementine, Margery, and the rest of the gang get up to next!!

Margery and Clementine Butcher-Baker (wives not sisters thank you very much) are on holiday. Their friendenemy and drama department head Rose is having a hen party and she managed to talk the Mrs Butcher-Bakers into catering it. However on Clem and Margery’s first night the mayor is poisoned in the same dining room that they are eating in. The police suspect Margery and Clem, giving them little choice but to investigate…if only to clear their names. But everyone in the village has secrets to hide and when the dinner lady detectives are uncovering things certain villagers would rather let lie. Will the dinner lady detectives solve the case or will this case just be too hard to swallow.
This is the third book in the Dinner Ladies Dectective series. I am absolutely in love with the series. Margery and Clem are a delight but if I’m being honest, Rose might be my favorite character! The author @hannahhendywrites throws in a delightful exchange where Seren accidentally lets it slip that she and Rose went to @Disneylandparis and it made me laugh out loud. This is not only a re read series, it’s a purchase and re read! Can’t wait for book #4!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Another brilliant instalment in this series, well worth reading the past two books if you haven't. Perfect cosy mystery for a rainy day. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy
This cozy was a perfect read on a cold day snuggled under a blanket and drinking hot tea. I really enjoy this. I now need to pick up the previous books. I loved Margery and Clementine.
I just reviewed A Terrible Village Poisoning by Hannah Hendy. #ATerribleVillagePoisoning #NetGalley

I enjoyed this the third book in the series. Margery and Clementine are visiting another village on holiday. When murder happens they can't help but to try to solve the crime. Love the characters. Good mystery! Thanks#netgalley and#Canelo for the eARC in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are mine.
Entertaining Mystery..
The third in the Dinnerlady Detective series finds school out and a well deserved break looming for Margery and Clementine. The village of St Martins-on-the-Water beckons. Sounds idyllic - right? After all, what could possibly go wrong? With a suspicious death on their very first night - and the villagers convinced that a poisoner has returned - the duo are horrified as they realise that they are falling under suspicion. Another entertaining and enjoyable mystery with an eclectic cast of well crafted characters and a plot peppered with much humour.
Margery and Clementine have had their arms twisted to cater the hen party for colleague Rose.
Predictably, things don't go according to plan...
An unforeseen and extremely unfortunate event happens at dinner at their hotel. And of course, they become embroiled in another mystery.
But why does absolutely everyone do a double take the first time they set eyes on Clemmie?
Another excellent adventure
I really enjoyed the previous two books in this series (The Dinner Lady Detectives and An Unfortunate Christmas Murder), so I was keen to get my hands on A Terrible Village Poisoning.
This time around, Margery, Clementine, and friends are not in their familiar surroundings, but on holiday in another village. Naturally, people start dropping dead, and they can’t resist poking their noses in.
I loved revisiting these characters, they are so much fun. I really like the relationship that Margery and Clementine have, they understand each other well and care very much.
The plot is particularly fun this time - there’s a lot of confusing things going on in this village, and it takes a while to start making sense. It was very enjoyable trying to figure out the solution as more clues were revealed!
Overall, this was a fun mystery, with a collection of characters that never fail to make me laugh with their propensity for stumbling into dangerous situations.
I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own.
First of all, thankyou so much to NetGallery, Canelo and Hannah Hendy for letting me read the latest installment of 'The Dinnerlady Detectives'.
'A Terrible Village Poisoning' by Hannah Hendy is the third and latest adventure of the Dinnerlady Detectives. I've been a big fan of this series and I loved the previous 2 books. For me, this has been my favourite so far. I'm a massive fan of Clementine and Margery, if ever I needed a crime solved I would definitely call on these two.
This book had so many twists and turns and it definitely did keep me guessing till the end. What made me love this book even more was that the whole gang was there was to help solve the mystery. I particularly loved Rose in this book and I liked that you found out a little bit more about her in this book especially her past. And I love Rose and Clementine's relationship, between the cutting remarks and insults you can see there's a lovely friendship there.
Overall this book was a very enjoyable read, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is a fan of cosy crime and classic murder mysteries. I hope Clementine and Margery (along with the help of their friends) continue fighting crimes and righing wrongs for many many many more books.
A fair cozy mystery set in small town England. Interesting to follow Margery and Clementine as they work out the clues, although I didn't need it thrown at me that they were married all the time. Still though, found the story good and would recommend.
Thank you Canelo and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
It was lovely to be with Margery, Clementine and the gang. Margery and Clementine are on their holidays away from their home and are catering for a colleague's hen party!! Once again, they are mixed up in events and set about solving the mystery. It's a quick read with an easygoing storyline that comes to a satisfying conclusion.
What a treat to be back with The Dinner Lady Detectives. In A Terrible Village Poisoning, the third book in the series, Margery and Clementine are joined by their fellow school-lunchroom cooks to host a hen party for their deputy head teacher. Margery and Clementine take the opportunity to combine the party with a rare seaside holiday to celebrate their one year wedding anniversary. As in all cozy mysteries there is a murder and the ladies find themselves embroiled in detective work. What makes this series special is the warm relationship between all the characters especially Margery and Clementine. This book did have a darker feel than the previous two and we learned more about Clementine's personal story. I look forward to the next book.
I wanted to enjoy this but overall found the story, characters, and plot to be something not what I was longing for or one that I would pick back up.
Margery and Clementine are back in their third murder adventure and this one is better than No 2 to my mind. They are two dinner ladies off on holiday but also to cater for a colleague's hen party; in their 60s, have been together for 40 odd years and about to celebrate their first weeding anniversary. A lovely if eccentric couple who can be annoying at times - just like most folk. A man drops down dead at their first dinner in what Clementine had found as a delightful quality hotel, only to find it run-down and not exactly up to even half way modern standards. The locals took against Clem for some reason, old stories of a long gone poisoner, missing assumed poisoner, modern poisoner and some eccentric characters all help the story along. Naturally the two interfere, even if with the best intentions, and naturally they put themselves in danger but everything ties together nicely in the end. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.
I loved this!!! So much!!!! I just sat and read this for 4-5 hours! It was lovely to be back with Margery, Clementine and the gang again doing what they do best solving things!
I really enjoyed it would 100% recommend.
Margery and Clementine are just the cutest and I love them 🥺
The third book in the Lunch Lady detectives series is as cozy as it's predecessors, but with a slightly more serious bent towards the third act. Out of their familiar surroundings and on holiday, Clem and Margery are at their dynamic, bickering, lovable best as they are once again drawn into solving a mystery. A good book to curl up with, and the style makes it a fast and engaging read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC.
It’s the summer holiday and Clementine and Margery Butcher-Baker are in St Martin-on-the-Water. Unfortunately during their stay they witness a murder of the local mayor.
This is the first story from this author I’ve read. It’s a cosy mystery written in a chatty style seemingly pitched toward Thursday Murder Club readers. As i enjoyed these i thought I’d give it a try. I didn’t find it as engaging. For example as someone new to the characters I didn’t feel I was properly introduced - I know it’s the third but I thought it’d work as a standalone. It was an okay read but I’m not sure I’d pick up another.
As a teacher I did find some of the staff relationships and comments about wages a bit off the mark to be honest.
A cozy mystery set in a the quaint village of St Martin’s-on-the-Water and filled with quirky characters. Would recommend
Thank you to Hannah Hendy, NetGalley and Canelo for the arc of this book.
