OHEMMMMGEEEE!!! What a book! I would highly recommend this book for an excellent summer beach read. I was immediately drawn into the cast of characters and how the idea of the 5 Star Weekend came to be. How quickly Hollis was able to select 5 women from various stages of her life to come celebrate in Nantucket was awesome. It made me think about who I would want to celebrate a 5 star weekend with. As these women come together, each brings their own personality to the weekend and how all of them are going to work together is both funny and touching. It is an excellent book. Treat yourself to the joy of reading it.
After her husband unexpectly dies, Hollis Shaw invites her five best friends from different stages of her life to her house in Nantucket for the weekend. Tatum, who lives in the island is her best friend from childhood, Dru-Ann her best friend from college, Brooke her best friend from when her daughter was growing up and Gigi her best friend from well, now, even though she has never met her in real life. There is some drama and hurt feelings stired up from previous meetings and each woman is going through thier own stuggles with life.
The Five Star Weekend is full of drama, female friendships, and love for the island of Nantucket. After Hollis suddenly loses her husband Matthew in a single car accident, she decides to host a Five Star Weekend at her home on Nantucket, inviting 4 of her best friends from different times of her life. Cue the drama and humor! When Hollis's "stars" arrive on Nantucket, the locals will be in for a real treat. Also in Nantucket for the special weekend is Hollis's daughter, Caroline, who is hiding some secrets of her own, but takes a new interest in a local boy she hasn't seen for many years. Loved this story and the authentic, strong female characters.
I always look forward to the annual Elin Hilderbrand beach read. This did not disappoint. I read it in a day and it got me so pumped for summer. Also made me very, very hungry.
What a fun summer read! The Five-Star Weekend brings us Hollis, a 53 year old wife and mother of a college age daughter. Successful with her online blog and married to a successful doctor, Hollis seems to have it all until her husband is killed in a one car accident on his way to the airport. Hollis feels guilty about arguing with her husband right before he left the house and is struggling with her relationship with her daughter who doesn't think she is grieving enough over the father she loved.
Enter an idea she heard about bringing women together from different eras of her life; youth, college, motherhood and later in life. There are grudges and a lot of secrets between the women, definitely lots of drama.
It took a little time to get to know all the women but once I got them all straight and got to know the characters, I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to know what happens to each of them and how their relationships with each other would work out.
There's a lot of food, clothes, music and laughter in the book. I can easily recommend losing yourself in Nantucket life!
Another summer, another great Elin Hilderbrand book! The Five-Star Weekend features Hollis Shaw, influencer, style and home guru and her four best friends from different phases of her life meeting up at her summer house on Nantucket. Well, three best friends and one follower who she's never even met! Hollis is hoping this weekend will be just the thing she needs after her husband died seven months ago. She's also invited her 20-something daughter, Caroline, along to film the weekend for her website.
I really enjoyed this read. I loved the character of Hollis and the descriptions of her house and the food she made had me salivating! I would love to see pics of everything! The other characters, Tatum, Dru-Ann, Brooke, and Gigi all had their annoying and endearing moments, but in the end I loved them all. This book really speaks to the power of friendship and forgiveness and how we change as people as time goes on. I really liked the idea of bringing together completely different friends and just seeing how they react to each other.
This was a much better read, for me, than the past two summer books (Hotel Nantucket and Golden Girl). Definitely pick this one up. It's a perfect beach read!
Five stars for The Five-Star Weekend. Elin Hilderbrand’s Nantucket books are perfection. I finally went to Nantucket after years of reading her books, and it’s exactly as she describes. Except, I think her books are slightly better than the real thing.
Hollis thought she had it all. A successful physician husband, a daughter, wealth, a magnificent summer home on Nantucket, and a very successful food blog, she being the online darling of women around the world. But her daughter is somewhat estranged from her and her husband tells her “you’ve changed; we’ve changed” as he prepares to fly off to yet another conference, missing their annual Christmas party which is the social event of the season. On the way to the airport, he is killed in a one car crash. Devastated, Hollis withdraws from her online presence to mourn. Months later, she decides a Five Star Weekend might be just the thing to help her snap out of it. She invites 3 of her closest friends from different eras to spend a luxurious weekend on Nantucket; the fourth invitee is someone she has never met but has grown close to through her blog. Drama is sure to ensue.
Fans of Hilderbrand will welcome this, her twenty ninth novel. There are secrets, long held grudges, reconciliations. Her vivid descriptions of the locale, food, clothing makes you feel you are really there along with the anonymous observer who makes an appearance from time to time. Charming may be a way to describe Hilderbrands books. It is a credit to her writing that despite finding so many of the characters annoying, I still enjoyed reading the book and didn’t want to put it down. At times, I felt as though I were reading about a bunch of seventh graders rather than mature mid 50s women.
Elin Hilderbrand does it again! I loved this concept of the five star weekend! It had me thinking of which friends I would invite from each decade of my life! I loved reading all the high end luxury details of the weekend festivities! Thank you!
One of Elin’s best! A unique idea behind the “five star” weekend-I can already see this idea going viral and other women planning their own Five Star Weekends as a result of reading this book! Loved the characters and of course the delightful descriptions of Nantucket! Makes me want to visit!!
I really hope this isn't her last book, but if it is, it's a great one to end with! As always, great story and excellent character development. I am sure this one will be super popular with our library patrons!
I am a huge Elin fan and this one didn't disappoint. I loved the mix up of women and how they all were coming from different situations. I love that Brooke discovered her true self.
What a perfect summer read! I love the idea of a 5-star weekend and have thought about this book multiple times since finishing. I love the characters, the scenery, and the connection between storylines.
I loved the Five-Star Weekend. It makes you think who would you ask for a weekend trip from different times in your life. It’s a quick read. Another great beach read from Elin Hilderbrand. Thank you to NetGalley and Little Brown and Company for the E-ARC. This is my own opinion.
The Five Star Weekend by Elin Was Hilderbrand will be THE beach read of the summer! Taking place on her beloved Nantucket, Elin takes us to the home of lifestyle maven Hollis Shaw, who has recently lost her husband in a car accident. She invites one friend from each decade of her life for a curated weekend to her home, but what she doesn't realize is the close connection that one of the women, who she met through her blog, had to her husband. As the weekend progresses, friendships are examined, relationships change and everything Hollis believed is turned upside down. A great read! Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
Great summer beach read!
Thank you NetGalley and Little Brown for an advanced copy of this ebook.
I loved the character development in this book! Each character was so carefully written with different experiences and motivations that really shown in their actions and dialogue. The relationships and drama were all mostly realistic.
This book made me yearn for summer, the setting in Nantucket was perfectly described.

I enjoy Elin Hilderbrand's stories and I enjoyed this one, too. A great, easy, summer read.
Hollis Shaw returns to full time living on Nantucket after the death of her husband. Dealing with her grief, she takes an idea of a five star weekend -- inviting four friends, from four various areas of her life to a gourmet weekend of fun and friendship....and secrets! Oh the secrets!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a digital, temporary ARC in return for my review.
Thank you, NetGalley and Little, Brown for this ARC.
Elin Hilderbrand strikes again! What a treat this story was! I absolutely devoured it. Characters came to life in their own ways and felt well-rounded. The food-blogger element really worked for me and the vivid descriptions of culinary creations made the story all the more intoxicating. Hilderbrand's signature Nantucket setting serves as the perfect backdrop for this engaging account of the complexities of friendship, marriage, and love.
The title doesn't overpromise - 5 Stars, indeed.
After her husband dies unexpectedly, Hollis is struggling. On the outside, she's an influencer with a big following, but her daughter won't talk to her and she's reeling after her husband's death. So she decides to gather four friends (each from a different stage in her life) to spend the weekend at her home in Nantucket and her daughter joins them to film the festivities. Each friend is dealing with a big life event, from a concerning medical situation to being canceled for a controversial opinion. The weekend changes them in unexpected ways.
