This was fine. I had a hard time connecting to the characters and the beginning felt full of words out of place or typos. Overall though, a cute small town romance!
Thank you to Netgalley and UpLit Reads for my copy of this book. All opinions here are my own.
Mermaid Beach is the 7th book in the Moonlight Harbor series, which I did not realize when I started reading it. I had not read any of the previous books in the series. I must admit that I really struggled to get into this one and to keep up with who was who in this cast of characters. While I can't say for sure if this was the reason, I do believe not having that previous history may have been a major contributing factor to that. The book was well written and a good story overall, I just really struggled to get into it as I would have liked. I definitely think if I go back and read the others at some point and come back to it later, I will definitely appreciate it more. As such, I'd definitely recommend checking out the rest of the series first.
**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
I've read every book in Sheila Roberts' Moonlight Harbor series. Mermaid Beach is my favorite. I laughed, cried, sighed, and laughed some more. These characters were so easy to root for and all three Brinks women - at various crossroads in their lives - took me on a satisfying, heart-tugging journey I wouldn't have wanted to miss.
The multi-generation family dynamics in this book are realistic and very relatable. Roberts has created these women in such a way that I was able to identify with daughter, mother, and grandmother as well as the challenges looming in each of their lives. I loved their bond, the complexity of their family relationships, and the growth of each of their characters as they stepped out of their comfort zones and forged unexpected paths to new adventures, love, and happiness.
The musical nods in the book - both onstage and behind the scenes - had me tapping my toes and singing along while the scenes in Moonlight Harbor as well as those in Nashville lend an undeniable air of authenticity to the characters' experiences.
Citizens of Moonlight Harbor float in and out of the story, adding texture and richness to the book without taking attention from the main characters. For fans of the series, it's always fun to catch up with a character from an earlier book but for those readers new to Moonlight Harbor, Mermaid Beach is a great place to jump in without feeling lost or confused.
If you're looking for a heart-tugging story of three generations of women with complex, relatable family dynamics, chasing dreams at a variety of ages, humor, emotional depth, romance, and hard-won, happy endings, I highly recommend Sheila Roberts' Mermaid Beach. It's a wonderful book to add to your summer reading list.

Are we ready for beach reading book friends?!?
Set in the small seaside town of Moonlight Harbor, Mermaid Beach is a story about family, moving forward, allowing space for dreams to grow. It’s music, art, and love at any age.
Bonnie loves her girl-band, The Mermaids, complete with her mom and daughter. She tried making it big in Nashville but returned home. She’s been burned, professionally and by love, and has no desire to feel that again! Her mom Loretta has on a new relationship that makes Bonnie uncomfortable. Meanwhile her daughter, Avril has decided to go to Nashville and Bonnie is terrified her daughter will be disappointed just as she was.
Mermaid Beach is the 7th book in the Moonlight Harbor series but I promise it can absolutely be read as a stand alone! Roberts does an excellent job giving just enough information on the cast of characters so new readers don’t feel lost, while keeping the storyline moving forward and fresh. I loved the relationship between Bonnie and her mom, Loretta. Loving, complicated, the push and pull so often felt by mothers and daughters. It seemed very authentic to me, as did Bonnie’s desire to protect Avril from heartbreak. Roberts writes with such heart, readers are sure to appreciate!
Perfect for readers who love books with:
🧜♀️ Small town beach
🧜♀️ Multi generational women
🧜♀️ Country music and art
🧜♀️ Sweet stories, closed door romance
🧜♀️ Series, there’s more books!
I was so thrilled when @UpLitReads selected me to be an early reader for Mermaid Beach and @SheliaRobertswriter book tour! I think it’s a great choice for readers to get warm summer vibes as they kick off summer reading!
For a long time, I have had reading a Sheila Roberts book on my TBR. I usually like to try to read a whole series or for sure the first book in the series, but this month, I just haven’t had as much time to read. But I agree with Sheila that it can be read on its own. Thank you to Uplit Reads for giving me the opportunity to read this one early and be part of the campaign for it.
The Mermaids are a family band - made up of a grandmother, a mother and a daughter - all single and dating or in relationships. Each of them has relationship issues they have to deal with (second chance romance, all ages of romance - I kind of enjoyed having some older love interests), as well as family issues. The daughter, Avril wants to have a chance in Nashville, but her mother won’t tell her what happened when she went there, nor who her father is - all she knows is that it was devastating for her.
This is another book I liked more the more I got into it. I especially enjoyed the whole going to Nashville storyline and all that happened there (I don’t want to give away spoilers!)
Mermaid Beach

I have chosen to read an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Thank you Sheila Roberts. I have visited Moonlight Harbor in your previous books. And now I have read Mermaid Beach, met a new family and I thoroughly enjoyed the visit.
I met three generations of women, each searching for different things - Avril wants to be a songwriter in Nashville. Bonnie, her mom, made some big mistakes in Nashville when she was Avril’s age and doesn’t want Avril to make the same kind of mistakes she made. Bonnie’s mom, Loretta, a widow, misses the companionship of a man. They play together in a very popular local band called Mermaids. But each as a different dream for their future. The story weaves in and out of all these women’s musical lives and is filled with love, regrets, pain, forgiveness and healing.
This was my first Moonlight Harbor book by Roberts, and I was pleasantly surprised to see how well this stood as a stand-alone book, and I had no trouble whatsoever following the book despite not having read the earlier ones in the series. Revolving around the lives of the fun-packed Mermaid girls, the story weaves elements of drama, romance, family sentiment, all in a light-hearted breezy small-town setting. While Avril and Bonnie are endearing, Loretta is a piece of dynamite, and it's such a delight reading through their characterization. An absolute must-read I'd say! My thanks to Roberts, the publishers Harlequin Mira, and Dorothy of PUYB for gifting me with a copy of this book.
This is marketed as a wholesome romance and it is that. It is book 7 in the Moonlight Harbor series. I haven't read the other books so it is fine as a stand alone.
This book tells the story of 3 generations of women trying to work through their relationships with each other, looking for love, and hoping for dreams come true. This is a sweet story and would be great to take to a beach and get lost in the search for a happy ending of The Mermaids.
I loved everything about this book- the setting and the small town feel, the multigenerational characters of Loretta, Bonnie and Avril and the plot that kept me from putting the book down.
Mermaid Beach is the seventh and final installment of the Moonlight Harbor series, and although this is absolutely a stand alone book, I’m thrilled I now get to start from the beginning.
This is the second book I’ve read from Sheila Roberts, and I’m so happy to have found her.
Mermaid Beach is delightful, heartfelt and the perfect way to launch into all the summer beach reads!
Thank you to the author, UpLit Reads, NetGalley, and Harlequin Trade for the advanced
Oh Shelia Roberts how I love you so. I think anyone that reads Shelia's books knows what there getting when they start reading. Light, cozy, small town feels with a cast of characters you want to become friends with. Mermaid Beach will get you with the title alone but have you seen the cover? Perfect summer read material. I read this book in one sitting wishing I was laying out by the ocean. Mermaid Beach is book seven but can be read as a stand alone.
Mermaid Beach is about a group of women in a band who are mother, daughter, and friend who sing at the local bar The Drunken Sailor. The girls have performed for the locals for years and love their community of neighbors and supporters. Mom Bonnie leads the girls and has a history of success in her career and failures in the love department, but so does daughter Avril. Moonlight Harbor is starting to feel suffocating and Avril needs to try something new. She loves the band, her town, her boyfriend, but she also wants the opportunity to try her luck in Nashville. There's so much talent in Nashville and Avril knows it will be tough, but she's up for the challenge.
The women's relationships will be put to the test as secrets are revealed from the past, and love interests test the girls relationships, but in the end family supports each other and no dream is ever too big.
A fabulous women’s fiction novel set in a small town with a heartwarming story. Somewhat predictable; yet really entertaining as the author put her own spin on it. I loved the country vibe that’s relaxing and fun. I loved the three generations of women who make up the band, The Mermaids—grandmother, daughter, and granddaughter—who all had musical talent in spades. I enjoyed all the references to songs I personally know. Watching Loretta, Bonnie, and Avril deal with their personal ups and downs to achieve happy endings was inspiring. All three characters grew more backbone during the story. The humor added offset some of the tenser moments. Bonnie’s talent at painting mermaids was interesting. I think this story is a wonderful summer read! I highly recommend it!
I honestly reviewed an unedited digital arc provided by NetGalley and Harlequin. All opinions are my own.
Musical mermaids are all over this book. I loved the three generational band. Each lady has her story. Loretta looking for love in all the wrong places. Bonnie is holding out for a hero and Avril wants to sing let’s hear it for the boy.
I loved all the song references and the creativity of the ladies. Each mermaid finds her match, but there are plenty of tidal waves along the swim.
My favorite was Kenny, I knew he was Kenny the keeper from the beginning and glad that his someone special realized it.
Reading about the sexy sirens at the beach will be a catchy tune for Roberts’s fans.
Mermaid Beach is the newest installment in the Harbor Cove series by Sheila Roberts. This is a great series for readers who want to be comfortably entertained and Mermaid Beach is a great addition to the ongoing story. This book revolves around a mother, daughter, and granddaughter who are very talented and have formed a band. They play at the local tavern and are very popular. The granddaughter wants to try her luck professionally and heads for Nashville, causing a problem for the band. Grandma and Mom are ready to try their luck at love (again) and the story follows the three women as they find unexpected curves in the paths of their lives. This is a pleasant and enjoyable story and I recommend it. It would be a great beach read.
The title immediately drew me to Sheila Roberts' latest book, and it was exactly what I was hoping for me. It combines elements of small-town living, chasing one's dreams, love, loss, redemption, second-chance romance, and grief. The writing is fantastic, and I certainly felt as if I was in their small beachfront town and hanging out at the local bar listening to The Mermaids play.
Sure, it's considered a wholesome romance, but it's one of those stories that doesn't need to go into graphic details. Roberts' writing style keeps the story light and fun, and you will be very invested in the characters.
I truly adored this sweet book and can't wait to read more by Sheila Roberts!
Thank you to Mira Books, NetGalley, and UpLit Reads for the eARC!
Cute, sweet, and a bit cheesy, I enjoyed this more than I expected to enjoy a “wholesome romance.” This isn’t a genre I would normally choose, but Sheila Roberts’ writing is fluid and full of cutesy cliches that provide a quick read!
MERMAID BEACH is the seventh book in the Moonlight Harbor series, but can be read as a stand-alone. It was such a fun read and I just loved the Mermaid girls. I enjoyed their story about past love, music, family and new romances that were coming into fruition. Reading MERMAID BEACH is a great way to escape for a day into the lives of Bonnie, Loretta and Ariel. I liked every minute of it and recommend it to those that enjoy lighthearted
romances.
Many thanks to Sheila Roberts, Harlequin Trade Publishing (MIRA) and NetGalley for my ARC.
This review will be shared to my Instagram (@coffee.break.book.reviews) in the near future.
I love mermaids, and I knew I would love this book! I enjoyed how the author wove the stories of the mother, grandmother, and granddaughter together, and I loved how she Wolf the theme of mermaids throughout their stories also. I did think that the book was a bit too long, and would have much more appreciated the focus being on.Avril, the granddaughter with Bonnie’s story woven in as necessary. I got a little tired of Bonnie, whining and moaning about being hurt, and not loving again… It seemed a bit of overkill on that thread of the story. All that being said, I enjoyed the music, the song, writing, the beach, and the love stories. Alight, heartening read!
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The Mermaids is an all-female band consisting of Bonnie Brinks, her daughter Avril, her mother Loretta, and Avril’s friend Gina. They have secured themselves as the house band at the popular pub, The Drunken Sailor, in their hometown of Moonlight Harbor where they manage to pack the house on a weekly basis. Bonnie had big dreams years ago but left Nashville behind after heartbreak and shattered dreams for a quieter life and is content in Moonlight Harbor.
Once Gina decides she’s heading to Nashville to pursue her dreams, Avril plans to head there too and leave her teaching job at the end of the school year. She loves playing in the band and spending time with her boyfriend, but she can’t help but feel that she is missing out. Avril has the support of her grandmother but wants more than anything the support of her mother, but Bonnie is reluctant to give it.
The Drunken Sailor comes under new ownership and The Mermaids stint as the house band is jeopardized. While Bonnie gave up on love long ago, the new owner stirs something in her that she hasn’t felt since Nashville. Will Bonnie experience love again, and will the hidden tales of Nashville finally come to light?
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for allowing me to read an ARC of this novel. #NetGalley #Mermaid Beach
I enjoyed this book. It was hard to get through at first but then it got interesting. It was heartfelt and romantic. I'm grateful that netgalley and the publishers let me read this in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very good book. It kept the reader engaged to see what would happen next. It was at an interest level for many different levels.
