This cookbook is full of gorgeous pictures that make you want to dive right into cooking and preserving. The canning charts are super handy if you're into preserving flavors. Personally, I'm excited to whip up some Quick Pickles, the Balsamic Beet Salad with feta and Pecans– they sound so tempting!
They've grouped the recipes by seasons, which is smart for using fresh ingredients. Although, I wish they organized each chapter further by the types of meals for even quicker browsing.
What really caught my attention is the mix of recipes from different cultures – along with informational captions. The instructions are easy to follow, making me all the more excited to give them a go soon.
Bottom line, this cookbook has got me excited to experiment in the kitchen and try out some new flavors.
As someone who loves harvesting vegetables from my garden, I'm always looking for new ways to use them or preserve them. I really liked the author's approach to healthy and filling options from your own garden to your family's table! The recipes all look delicious, I especially enjoyed the Greek Buddha Bowl.
Garden to Table is a brilliant cookbook full of wonderful recipes for the fruits of your garden labor! I really love that the author starts out with the story of food, and how nutrition, and changing her diet, were instrumental in her and her mom's health.
There are sections here for freezing, drying, and canning. There are instructions and recipes included, and tons of beautiful pictures. There are instructions for how to preserve your harvest, and recipes for the spring, summer, fall, and winter seasons. The Strawberry-Rhubarb Crumble is my favorite - very nostalgic, as my mom used to make strawberry-rhubarb pie out of the garden when I was a kid!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this eARC in exchange for my honest review on the book!
Great cookbook! I love clean eating and the best way to get all the nutrition is using food right from your garden. The book is sectioned seasonally and has beautiful pictures of her creations. I will be making the Italian wedding soup even in the summer!
I put this one in my Amazon cart for my next big splurge. I love these types of cookbooks which take items from the garden to a wholesome meal. A charming book!
What did I like? I like the idea of eating better. I’m still working on the soil around my house, gardening is an endeavor and I never stop learning. The cookbook has some amazing recipes that I can’t wait to enjoy! We should all be able to eat well enough to heal.
Would I recommend or buy? I’d buy. It’s my favorite type of cookbook and it’s very versatile. From garden to table and preservation. All inclusive style book! Five stars for me!
I received a complimentary copy but I bought my own to have. This is a voluntary review!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

although because of my location the recipes (some of them ) did not apply
I love how educational this was. It was not what I expected at all. It was a pleasant surprise. Loved it! I learned so much.

I have to say that I have just started reading cookbooks because I have diabetes and my mother in in heart failure so the both of us have combined no no’s. However, how can you go wrong with veggies. I was super excited to try all of the recipes inside but learning how to can vegetables, that was so fun and fun to do as a family. My most favorite recipe is the blueberry plum jam. Who would have thought I would be in the kitchen making jams, and ketchup. Buying this cookbook saved me money right away and it gave my family something fun to do together while teaching them how important vegetables are for our health. I honestly just want to thank the author for putting this cookbook together because it has really allowed me to eat the things I never again thought The recipes are so good but my ultimate favorite is the Balsamic Beet Salad with Feta and Pecans. Everyone should have this in their kitchen. It is so expensive to go to the store and buy the health items in here yet you can make them for half of the cost AND have more on hand for later. I cannot say enough great things about this cookbook by Kayla Butts.
Thank you to NetGalley as well as the author and publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this cookbook in exchange for my unbiased and honest review.
Such a vibrant, educational and beautiful cookbook! The recipes are all amazing and I love how they are sorted by season. There are many wonderful tips and educational bits regarding gardening and preparing the seasonal foods.
What a great guide! I felt like this is one of the few books that has a personal touch, while also remaining helpful and easy to read. I loved the high quality photos that accompanied each section, the charts that made information easy to understand, and the acknowledgement of the importance of connecting to our roots (literally). This is a book I could see myself coming back to again and again!
Garden to Table Cookbook by Kayla Butts
What a wealth of knowledge! The cookbook starts with a substantial section on preserving foods from your garden including freezing, canning, and drying with a nice list of canning recipes.
Following this introductory section are recipes organized by in-season foods. Each of these sections includes an index of recipes. The instructions are clearly written with a nice ingredient list and beautiful photography. I really like that the recipes include fresh, simple ingredients and look forward to trying more.

Garden to Table
In Garden to Table, the author starts with a personal story, explaining how she became interested in nutrition and gardening. Her family had to learn through personal struggles how important knowing your food can be to some. As a person with a few rare conditions, I understand what her mother and later the author herself went through. It’s one of the things that drew me to this book.
The author tells many things about gardening for health at the beginning of the book. But when she started with the recipes, I practically forgot all about gardening!! The recipes she has in this book look so good, I’m ready to go to the grocery store at 10 PM, since it will be months still before my garden gives me much. Speaking of, I’m going to have so much food once the plants are ready, but the author had a section on preserving fruits and veggies, and even some sauces. That will come in extremely helpful between the gardens at my house and my niece’s house next door.
I’ll be waiting impatiently for my garden to be ready to go on my table, and if you have a garden I recommend this book for amazing recipes and great growing tips. The recipes start with breakfast, continue through lunch and dinner (there’s even PIZZA!!), and we finish up the day with some amazing fruity dessert. Some of the sweeter recipes would make it pretty easy to sneak some veggies in some kids without their knowledge. So if you eat, I say go find this book immediately!
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review from Netgalley.
The author, Kayla Butts, as a child watched her mother go from having seizures, gaining weight and being depressed to having none of these symptoms by following a ketogenic diet. While in college, the author herself gained weight and discovered that a farm fresh grain fed beef diet helped her lose weight and balanced her hormones out. She discusses the deterioration in food as it is harvested too early, before the vitamins and minerals are fully developed and she also discusses how beneficial it is mentally to grow your own food - it can lower the risk of dementia by 36%!
Kayla discusses the savings you will have by growing your own food instead of purchasing it at the store. You are also introduced to the methods of preserving your harvest, such as freezing, canning, and dehydrating, along with charts that show which food you can can and how long it can be stored.
There are recipes for making different types of pickles, cucumber, okra and radish, along with making hot sauce and kimchi.
There are also recipes for stewed tomatoes, blueberry plum jam and strawberry jam. The Thai lettuce wraps are simple and delicious, the zucchini fritters and watermelon Granita are healthy and easy to prepare and flavorful!
Enjoy growing and preserving your own food!
This book was very helpful; a great intro primer to preserving food with some helpful charts and recipes. I found the chart going over every veggie and fruit and how you can preserve them in different ways the most helpful.
This is a great book with some great recipes. The recipes are easy to follow, there are some plant-based recipes—and the non-plant based rescues would be easy to make substitutions if needed. The pictures are mouth watering and the layout and design are well planned out.
Ms. Butts cookbook covers preservation methods, for different fruits and veggies, listing pros and cons for each. It’s a good tool for someone thinking of preserving their harvest,
She also includes a variety of recipes with pictures that are compatible with Keto and Whole food diets. They are seemed to be aimed at eating better for your health. Some I’ve tried before and some new to me, there’s a good variety including dishes with meat.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC to peruse gratis and offer my opinion in the same.
Starts with tips and instructions on preserving the harvest in freezing, drying and canning.
Recipe section is divided by seasons to get the best from each one.
Delicious sounding recipes like Leek and Mushroom Risotto, Thai Lettuce Wraps, Mushroom and Chèvre Crepes, Pork and Cabbage Dumplings and Shakshuka (eggs poached in tomatoes) have an international flair, with an emphasis on healthy cooking on the grill and on the stove top. Easy to find ingredients with show stopping presentation photographs, there is something for everyone to cook for dinner, or have a special dessert without too much fuss. Many of the recipes would serve nicely as a vegetarian main course, as well as a side dish for a grilled protein. There are several recipes I want to try this week! Recommend for anyone who wants a nice change in flavors or a step up to a vegetarian main dish for a meal. Recommend.
I have read several cookbooks but none of them have had any information on the vegetables and fruits that are available every season and also how to preserve them. Having all that information in the first few pages of the book made me so happy because I have been wanting to grow a garden at home and this was the information I needed, all in one place. 'The recipes are very diverse while yet still including the basics, such as ketchup and applesauce. It is so refreshing to see a cookbook that works this was. Definitely recommend,
I really enjoyed this cookbook! So many ideas in a well organized book. I can't grow vegetables and fruit in the city, but I can can it with this book's help. It's so much more than a recipe book, it also has tons of great gardening ideas.
Thank you so much to Netgalley for this arc. The opinions above are my own and given freely.
Part gardening and part cookbook. This is a nice addition to your shelf if you garden yourself or you have access to someone who does or a local farmers market. My favorite part is there are no odd ingredients that are hard to have access to. The ingredients are fresh and the recipes are arranged seasonally. I find that a genius way of organizing this book. I can open this up and follow right along as the season progresses. Also, there are beautiful photos of every recipe and I find that incredibly helpful. I appreciate the author specified to follow directions specifically for safe canning. This would make a wonderful gift to someone new to gardening and preserving.
The only con to this book is the anticipated publish date of Aug. 16, 2023, which is nearing the end of a gardening season for this year. It would have been fabulous if this could be published before planting season this year. I guess we have next year.
Thank you to NetGalley, Fox Chapel Publishing, and Author Kayla Butts for allowing me the opportunity to read and review prior to publication.
