This book was really good! Takes you back to high school remembering having friends you thought were extensions of family and you’d all do anything for each other ! So much happened to those girls at such a young age. I seriously can’t believe what Sonny did. 😳. I am really at a loss for what Amy and Sami did. I wish Mo had gotten the help she desperately needed. It’s unfortunate what happened to her. Liz and her family seem like they are doing well in the end though.
What a freaking rollercoaster 😭utter madness and just so much unhinged activity
This book was a whole lot of fun and I'm so glad I gave this book a chance because the whole *friend group who were so close growing up they shared all their secrets together and did everything together until they realise they don't and a crazy life changing event ultimately breaks the friendship up and someone dies in the process and they end up being estranged in their adult life until said event comes back to haunt them and threatens to ruin their lives 15 years later ' Trope is something I haven't read because I just never found one that gripped me enough to read it, but this one was different. I was glued to my phone screen just wanting to find out what happens next. I don't wanna spoil this book before it's even out yet but what I absolutely want to say is that these girls are garbage human beings my goodness! Terrible humans with little to no redeemable qualities and at their big ages? Embarrassing 😭 they are not good people!! That's all I'm saying
There is alot to unpack in this book😭 ALOT!! maybe one day I'll blog about it and share all of my thoughts and really break down these absolutely insane characters and tell you how I feel about them but for now I'm going to leave it here!!
The book is coming out March! I absolutely recommend you pick it up and read it! You won't regret it!
Thank you to netgalley, Shannon Hollinger and the publisher for this Arc in exchange for an honest review 🙏🏾
Well what can I say about this book. There so many plot twists you can’t help but keep turning the page. This book is so hard to put down. The author definitely sucks you into the book. I must say this is one the best thrillers I read in a long time.
Can you really call you best friends best friends? With so much happening from the past their lot to handle and get your head around. This story was amazing and kept you guessing all the way though. Once you think you guessed what happened there a twist that gets you thinking all over again.
This book is worth more than 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I can’t wait to read more stories from this author.
This book sucked me in and didn't let go, I couldn't put it down. What twists and turns this had, that were totally believable. I can't say how many times my jaw dropped and I said "NO WAY!" I really loved this book. The characters were well written, I felt like I knew them and then found out I didn't know them at all.
Wow… what a ride!! The friendships we make in our formative years can be intense, after all, you’re processing hormones, puberty, the opposite sex, family drama, school, extracurriculars, and growing up together. For this foursome, however, their ties run even deeper. When one of the four of them does during a sleepover, the tight-knit closeness they’ve built implodes, sending the three remaining girls careening to different lives altogether. But when one returns demanding accountability and the three are pulled back together, it results in terror, betrayal, and uncovering secrets that should have just stayed hidden.
This book was every thriller-lover’s dream: unexpected, suspenseful, and a joy of interpersonal conflict and shocking twists.
Thank you so much to @netgalley , @thiswritersays , and @bookouture for my copy of The Slumber Party in exchange for my honest review!! This book will be available on 3/22, and I highly recommend you preorder a copy before it flies off the shelves!
I enjoyed reading this book and found myself reading it very quickly to find out what was happening. I appreciated the ending very much, it was not necessarily predictable even for a seasoned thriller reader.
The book follows four friends through a tragedy that changed their friendship on prom night and while reading two different timelines, we are learning what lead up to the unraveling of their friendship. The two timelines worked well to keep me reading but also satisfy my need to know what was going on. The author gives us tidbits of information throughout the book instead of learning every shocking twist at the end and I liked the way this style of writing played out like that.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in return for my honest feedback.
The Slumber Party by Shannon Hollinger is another page turning psychological thriller that may pull you down a thrilling hole that you might not want to leave!
This was a well written thriller that had me guessing until the end.
With intriguing characters with a plot filled with twists and turns.
If you enjoy a mystery that will have you glued to the pages, then this is it
An exciting read that kept me guessing and several times I thought I had worked it out.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a fun read. I stalled a bit since I was reading on my kindle and I do mostly audiobooks, but when I picked it up at 15% I finished in a day. Deeply flawed characters taking place in the past and present with multiple points of view. Several twists with good clues to lead up to them instead of the typical “twist from nowhere” that certain authors are throwing out these days. Definitely going to do well on the thriller circuit.
I enjoyed this read, and it was definitely a book where I couldn’t wait to see what the conclusion would be. The story of friendships, secrets and betrayal was woven well by Hollinger, and she was able to personify each character in a way that made you hate & love them at the same time. There were some disturbing revelations, mixed with surprising twists that were blended into the plot seamlessly. I liked the alternating POVs between each friend and loved the short chapters. That said, it wasn’t as much of a thriller as I was hoping it would be, and while I was satisfied with the ending, there were slow parts throughout that were a bit of a pain to get through.
The Slumber Party - a back-and-forth teen and adult story - is filled with surprises from beginning to end. The book moves quickly as different layers of lies and deceptions are revealed.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC.
This was a decent thriller with a good mystery. However, the characters were weak and unbelievable. It really pulled from this story which was quite intriguing.
This sucked me in from the very first page and had me so consumed the whole book! The cover is stunning and the story so suspenseful! Loved it!
3.5 stars rounded up! I liked this one and it definitely held my interest. While it was slightly predictable, it definitely have a few surprises that were thoroughly enjoyable and executed well. It follows a fairly common blueprint consistent in this genre and while some points did feel familiar from other stories, the author did a good job making it her own and carrying the story to conclusion.
I think the only real complaint (and I hesitate to call it a complaint at all) I have is that some of the dialog felt a little choppy. Sometimes I felt it was difficult to decipher while characters voice I was reading because they were all fairly similar.
But otherwise this was absolutely a fast paced and fun book; had a lovely afternoon reading it and would recommend
Many thanks to Net Galley, the publisher, and the author for providing me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Mystery thrillers are easily my favorite genre to read when done well. While Slumber Party is not at the top of my list, Susan Hollinger did a wonderful job of writing a gripping page-turner. I found myself eager to find out what happened next, and it was hard to put down.
The writing was good, although I found some of the metaphors and comparisons a little awkward, and the characters didn’t feel distinct enough from each other or developed well enough to make them fully convincing. While I found myself engrossed in the story most of the way through, I was disappointed in the ending. Personally, I found it anticlimactic, as well as a little confusing as to why the characters were so afraid for the truth to come out. It was understandable enough, but not overly compelling.
Overall it was an enjoyable read. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Susan Hollinger for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Firstly, a huge thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC. 'The Slumber Party' will be released late March this year.
This was my first read by Shannon and I think it is fair to say that I will be back. Dual timeline, twists and turns, tense teenage friendships and the hard face of first loves.
Amy, Mo, Liz and Sami are childhood best friends who have definitely felt the ship rock during their time in high-school. Friendship strain comes and goes with age, right?
When the relationship fizzed out over time and one member begins to recieve ominous notes relating back to the night of their prom, some secrets can't be hidden forever.
This book will through you through all the loops. My theories were flying wild right until the end. I really didn't expect where this went and I absolutely loved that about this book. There's a reason I finished it in 2 days!!
This book has a premise I can never pass up!
Frenemies and murder make this a fun ride. Did I guess most of the twists? Yesssss Did I still love it?
Yessss!
You get multiple time lines and povs here and I really enjoyed this book- it’s a def binge read!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced readers copy of The Slumber Party by Shannon Hollinger. This book is about a group of best friends who did everything together. After high school they become estranged. One day Liz starts receiving messages from one of the old friends. Except she is dead! Who is sending these messages and who wants to dredge up the past. This book is told from the perspective of each character and I love this style of writing! A good psychological thriller that has many twists and turns.
Ten years ago: On a warm summer’s evening, four childhood friends gather at a slumber party… Before dawn breaks, the nightmare begins. One of them dies. One of them is a killer.
Four friends, Mo, Liz, Sami and Ami grew up together and were about as close as you can be as friends. They had been there for each other all throughout their young lives, supported each other when times where tough but an incident which happened many years ago is now coming back to haunt them. There has been a great deal of time since they have seen each other as events which happened in their youth left them to drift apart. But now everyone is much older and the reality of these past events is setting in, and quickly. Throw in a determined cop with a thirst for finding out the answers to the questions, he is now causing all sorts of anxiety and stress to our four main players.
The book is told through multiple POV's which works well in this setting as there are four main characters and this provides insight into each of their personalities. It also lets us understand the story from each point of view. Of course, none of these characters are particularly likeable but those that know me also know that often is the thing that attracts me to a story. Unlikable does not mean not enjoyable for the reader, quite often in this scenario this is what makes the story work.
I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have seen some reviews that have said that the story is flawed or written too simply but I did not find this and I think the writing reflected what was happening in the story. I will definitely be looking out for more work from this author of whom I had not head of before. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest unbiased review. 4 big stars
Okay Read 🤔
Told from various perspectives from then and now, does seem to do a lot of flitting between times. Overall an okay read, but didn’t grip me as I would’ve hoped.
Incredible! Highly recommend! Kept me on my toes all the time. Am going try and read the other book "Best Friends" as well. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this fantastic, thrill-seeking book!
