I did not vibe with this one unfortunately. The plot moved too slowly for me and I kept putting it aside because I was bored with the prose.

Simon’s cruel father tells him he will help him set up a horse breeding business if he agrees to move the village near their home elsewhere. Simon knows how to organize and command from his army days. He has not planned for Pen who is trying to help the villagers accept this new change. I loved the writing style and the characters were complex but I found the pacing sooo slow. I kept leaving and coming back to it. The book could be half as long. There were unnecessary subplots and excessive contemplation. That wouldn’t stop me from reading the next book in the series. I’d just just make sure it wasn’t 400 pages first.

This was an awesome read. The characters are well developed and engaging and the storyline is well written And has a smooth flow to it.
