Mystery and intrigue…talented author. The characters are likable and come alive on the pages. Trying to discover who is guilty is a puzzle. Red herrings…finally, the pieces fall into place. This is a good novel for escaping. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

This is book 4 in the series about detectives Harry Lennox and Jess Wilde. And a great instalment it is!

When a kidnap victim turns up dead, Harry and Jess investigate. Was she seeing the local mobster? Why were her kidneys and eyes removed?

Really enjoyed this. The characters are fantastic and very believable.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy of The Wrong Woman, the third novel to feature DI Harry Lennox and DS Jess Wilde of Greater Manchester Police, set in the fictional town of Ryebridge.

A young woman is found dead, dressed in a Victorian costume with a China doll mask. With her face badly beaten she is identified as Lori Lansing, who was kidnapped three weeks earlier and never returned despite her husband paying the ransom. Then another young woman is reported missing.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Wrong Woman, which has an amazing story to tell, full of twists and turns. It is told mostly from Jess and Harry’s points of view, so the reader gets a close look at the investigation, without knowing what is going on on the other side.

The author is at the top of her game with this novel. It has a lot of forward momentum, jaw dropping twists and written in such a way that the reader wants more. I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting. It starts with the macabre scene of a murdered woman dressed as a china doll, which immediately poses so many questions in the reader’s mind and plunges them straight in. And that is only the beginning of a twisted tale that goes places the reader could not envisage from a murder and a kidnap. It might not be overly realistic, but, boy, is it entertaining. It comes together very cleverly at the end, which seems fitting considering the wild journey to get there.

The Wrong Woman is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

This was my first read by the author, and I enjoyed the writing. It's the third book in the series and I did not feel confused starting the store from this point which is excellent.

The story starts out with a kidnapping/ransom situation and the kidnapped woman was found in a victorian doll outfit was an immediate attention grabber. It is very fast-paced with some twists and turns that keep you reading. I'd recommend and look forward to reading more by this author.

Great book, I really enjoyed this book. I could see the ending but it was a well paced thriller. I love the characters and back stories too. Helen Durant is one of my favourite authors and she is able to write something new and fresh, which keeps the readers engaged. Brilliant.

Not an unbiased review because I love this author's work (but this is the first I've read in this series). The publisher's blurb is a good intro, but it's the writer's craft that is so riveting. The characters are so real, the mystery could be in any urban area with competent policing (love this pair), and some of the twists are beyond diabolical. Excellent read!
I requested and received an EARC from Joffe Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Really interesting characters and situations combine to make this a strong mystery/thriller. It’a not exactly a brain teaser as it is pretty clear what is going on but there are some great twists in terms of the roles the various characters play in the mystery. I really liked the spotlight on current social issues such as affordable housing.

This book is certainly an unputdownable Thriller.
Jessie Wilde and Harry Lennox are back with book three.
Adam Lansing will go all out to get his wife Lori back from the Kidnappers even paying more money, Three weeks on a poor woman is found in the Ryebridge Park by a group of kids, with a heart shape tattoo on her right upper arm they have a name 'Lori' but do they have the wrong woman.
Almighty twisty chapters that are read in this amazing book, I love this series and the characters, superb from the very beginning here's hoping we have more to come from these two characters they do really work so well together.

Ms. Helen Durrant must have a very fertile mind. She has created several series of novel characters for her stories. I don’t know how she keeps all these people in her head; it must be very crowded. (Just teasing.)

The thing for the reader to know is that she has created original characters for all of her series. This book is no exception. Detectives Harry Lennox and Jess Wilde are original and refreshing. I really like their relationship, teasing and friendly.

This is an exciting entry into the series. There is much action, drama and tension. The addition of an old enemy of Harry’s from Scotland adds to the mix. There are many, many surprises in this story. One has to withhold certainty about the wide range of suspects. I like that this reader saw glimpses of Jess and Harry’s private lives. It helps to fill out the characters more if one gets to know them better.

Very well done. Ms. Durrant.

I want to thank NetGalley and Joffe Books for forwarding to me a copy of this very good book for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed in this review are solely my own.

***This book is not yet available on GoodReads or Amazon to review. I will watch these sites.

This is the third book in this series, and as I have not read book one and two yet I didnt know how I would get on, I didnt need to worry as this book can easily be read as a standalone though i now want to read books one and two and the rest of the books Helen has previously wrote.

I really enjoyed the intrigue of finding out who the murdered lady was and what on earth was going on in that club.

A great read

Some books you think you are going to love. The title, the description all capture your attention but as you are reading, you find it difficult to finish because you just can’t get into it. I didn’t realize it was a series. And this is probably what my issue was. . Over all, story was great and flowed well, but it didn’t wow me.

The Wrong Woman by Helen H Durrant.

Another great book by this author. She manages to get you immersed in the plot from the very first chapter and keep you there until the last page.
Set in Greater Manchester of which this is the third instalment. DI Harry Lennox is in exile from Scotland due to a Scottish hard man trying to kill him. This book is an excellent addition to the series and will also work well as a stand alone novel , and would make a great t.v. detective eries.

Harry Lennox and Jess Wilde have a faceless woman and a kidnapped wife to task them; everything is not as it seems - another missing woman, organ harvesting, drugs as well as an old vicious adversary of Harry's keep them and the reader on their toes. It is decidedly gory at times. Helen Durrant's writing is always excellent as is her sense of place. This particular team of detectives is new to me but I think that they are developing well. A good read and satisfying ending although with a hint of what might come next. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

Another enthralling novel by Helen Durrant that keeps the reader engrossed until the final pages. This book features detectives Harry Lennox and Jess Wilde investigating the death of a woman found wearing Victorian clothes with her head covered with a mask underneath which her face is badly beaten.

THE WRONG WOMAN by HELEN H. DURRANT.
Detectives Harry Lennox and Jess Wilde have never seen anything like it. The dead woman is dressed up like a Victorian doll. She’s wearing a long, white dress, a bloodstained blonde wig, and a mask with red, cupid-bow lips. Beneath the mask, her face is beaten so badly it’s unrecognisable.
DNA identifies the victim as Lori Lansing, who was kidnapped three weeks ago. Her wealthy husband paid half a million pounds to secure her release — but he never saw his wife again.
Really good read. Gripping and twisty. I do hope there is more from Harry and Jess. 5*.

Detectives Lennox and Wilde are called when a body is found in the woods. The victim is wearing Victorian clothes and a mask. The victims face has been badly beaten and fingers removed. The body is identified as Lori by her tattoo, Lori was kidnapped and held to ransom for £500,000 over 3 weeks ago and the kidnappers have gone quiet. Then another woman goes missing. Is there a serial killer on the loose? Then a discover is made over the first victim and the case is turned upside down.
Another great instalment in the Lennox and Wilde series. Quite a unique plot which is refreshing. An enjoyable read.

I thought this an interesting, intelligent read. Just when I thought I had fathomed it out, there was a surprise development which left me wondering how on earth it was all going to come together..
I found some of the characters to be desperate people and loved the way this is realistically portrayed by showing at what lengths people will go to, to maintain good health.
An enjoyable read, one not to be misssed.
