"Inner Workout" by Taylor Elyse Morrison is a refreshing and insightful guide that empowers readers to prioritize their mental and emotional well-being. For me, the strength of this novel lies in Morrison's holistic and practical approach to self-care; she presents a diverse array of exercises, ranging from journal prompts and breathing techniques to movement practices and creative outlets. The wide variety of techniques offers readers the opportunity to explore and find what methods resonates best. Additionally, the accessible nature of each exercise made them feel practical and able to be easily incorporated into anyone's daily routines.

But, Morrison doesn't just provide tools for self-care; she also illustrates how they can positively impact relationships, work, and overall well-being. This holistic and comprehensive perspective is, in my opinion, what sets the book apart from other "self-help" guides. Overall, this book an excellent guide for those looking to enhance their well-being and embark on a journey self-care.

Self-care is essential. We live in a stressful world with many unknowns. In this book you learn about what self-care really is and how to incorporate it more into your life. You'll read about issues such as body positivity, burnout, brain fog, self-confidence, and more. The book offers a variety of practices, prompts, and actionable advice to strengthen your relationship with yourself. I like how the author said to think of this as a choose your own self-care adventure and that there is a Take Care Assessment. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC. .

Inner Workout covers five dimensions of well-being, including physical, energetic, mental & emotional, wisdom, and bliss. This was my first introduction to the author, Taylor Elyse Morrison, whom I learned leads a company (also called “Inner Workout”) which provides tools, resources, and trainings in the realm of self-care.

I loved the layout of this book- it’s inviting, super accessible, and easy to read. I liked the Take Care Assessment, which directs you to the dimensions that you need to work on the most. The journaling prompts and affirmations were a nice addition.

Inner Workout provides the framework for enhancing your own wellbeing, putting yourself in the driver’s seat of self-improvement, awareness, and wholeness.

Thanks to NetGalley, Taylor Elyse Morrison, and Chronicle Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was such a great read. I've taken a few of Taylor's classes in the past so when I saw she wrote a book, I knew I needed to read. There was a lot of great insight as to why she created this practice and I loved learning more about her story.

I was not ready for the depth that came along with this short 150 page book. This was no a fluffy self-help book or one that tries to place everyone within some sort of predetermined box. It didn't take long to finish this book, but I have since then found myself drawn back in to reread certain sections when I am in need of some guidance or a healthy reminder that self care will looks and feel as I need it to.

This book, Inner Workout by Taylor Elyse Morrison, is my 15th book I’ve read this year (2023).

My first point I want to make about this book is that it is quite honestly the most in-depth book on self-care (and I have read quite a few of them) that I have ever come across. This book is unlike any self-care book I’ve ever read. There was so much insight and so many points made throughout this book that I learned quite a lot of new information.

Part of the journey through this book is a self-care assessment that the readers are supposed to take in order to guide the reader in which areas they need to focus on and read about. I took the assessment (which is online) and was surprised by how in-depth the results were. My results were all very high, so I read through all of the dimensions as they are provided in the book.

The organization throughout the book makes it short and easy to comprehend. Also, there are many exercises for the reader to practice the various self-care dimensions.

Another part of the book that I have not seen in other self-care books is that for each sub dimension, there are songs that are listed that in some way relate to what is provided in the chapters. I created a playlist with all of these songs and I love listening to it.

This book is definitely a 5 out of 5 star book for me. While it was short and compact, it really packed a punch and I learned an incredible amount of information. The questions made me really think about my self-care routines and practices.

I am so grateful to NetGalley, Taylor Elyse Morrison (the author) and Chronicle Books (the publisher) for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I gave "Inner Workout" four stars. This book may be short, but it is packed with great information. I really appreciated how the book was broken down into different sections, each providing valuable insights on how we can cultivate a more fulfilling and harmonious life. The author's wisdom nuggets were so good that I found myself taking notes to refer to later. One of the best things about the book is the self-assessment that helps the reader identify different parts of themselves and understand how to integrate them in a holistic way. The graphics are also beautiful and add to the overall experience of reading this book. If you're looking for a concise but impactful guide to self-improvement, I highly recommend "Inner Workout".

There are no two people who are alike. So, why should peoples own self care be the same as someone else's? It shouldn't. Self care is not black and white. There is no right, there is no wrong. Inner workout made me realize I was trying to check boxes off of someone else's list. I don't know whose but it sure wasn't my checklist.

Inner Workout stresses the self in self care. Find what works for you, find what heals and nurtures your mind body and soul. What one person may need is not what you may need and that is ok. I love that Taylor Elyse Morrison puts the self back into self care. Forget what social media is telling you. Forget what that influencer or that other influencer tried to influence. Listen to your self. You're body tells you what it needs. You just need to listen.

I sat with this book for a while trying to really feel it out. There is plenty that I agree with and wish more people would talk about instead of swearing under the rug, leaving younger generations to figure it out the hard way when sharing experiences could be a huge growing factor for the sender and receiver. Inner Workout attempts to guide you on your journey to navigate these waters in a way that feels like talking to a friend instead of laying on a couch in a small room with the clock ticking above your head as a licensed professional trying to pry the information out of you.

This is a brilliant book. It goes into the complexities of "self-care" and the harm of simplifying the movement/practice. The author takes an intersectional approach to self-care and explains how it cannot be one size fits all approach and must be unique. The author guides you through the work you can do.

I love this beautiful, informative self help book. It is packed with so much information on how to put a self care practice in motion & really make it stick. It helps us better understand stress & how to counteract that with various types of self care. It also breaks down self care myths to help us get in the right mindset to actually make it happen.
The author’s conversational tone really made this an enjoyable read that I will recommend to others!

A beautiful look though how to utilize your inner light in life and how to make your life brighter. Pun intended. Highly recommend. Especially loved the reflection to true life to humanize my feelings and relate. I felt like this book was SPEAKING TO ME. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I like how Taylor Elyse Morrison discusses stress and identity — as a factor as she starts to explore the myth that self care is one size fits all.

She’s real in her writing, talking about getting all fired up which made me smile because I’m fiery too but it’s not often discussed in the same circles as self care practices. BUt… her point and I happen to agree is that there’s no criteria that you have to live by — you make and take whatever time you can for self care and that does not have to be very long at all. You do what you can with the time you have. No comparisons, no guilt or shame. Decide what your intentions are and go with it.

She continues to bust myths throughout and I think this book really gives permission to newbies or anyone else that has thrown their hands up thinking they have no time, nor are they the type for self care. Inner Workout guides you to do you, while providing some great tips and inspiration to create or strengthen a self care practice.

What a cool book and perspective on self care. I’ve been practicing self care for a while and I love the author’s approach and practices. Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy for the purpose of this review! I most enjoyed Morrison’s song choices throughout as well as celeb pics for certain modalities. I thought this was unique and a great feature. 5 stars! Great structure and writing!
