This book is addictive!
The moment I started the audiobook for The Soulmate, I didn't want to stop listening. It had me wishing my commute to work was longer so I didn't have to shut it off!
I was immediately invested in this story and its characters. I needed to know what would happen next!
Twists and turns are taken throughout this story and they serve to further captivate the reader. With each new piece of information, the desire to know how it all ends gets stronger!
What an interesting story about love, betrayal, mental health, loss, and the complexities of human emotion and human relationships.
This is one of the best mystery/thrillers I have ever read and I highly recommend giving it a listen!
I really like Sally Hepworth's writing so her new releases are a must read for me. This was definitely not disappointing and contained the same intrigue and twists that her other thrillers have. I was so wrapped up in trying to figure out exactly what happened that I didn't see the events playing out the way they did in the slightest. I was delighted by the final plot twist as well and thought it was a really heartwarming twist to an otherwise not so heartwarming situation. I thought the characters were interesting but I would have liked even a bit more development of them because they seemed to have a lot going on. I thought the main couple was well developed but that Max and his wife had an air of mystery about them that I would have liked to dive deeper into. I absolutely love this narrator too so I automatically read anything she narrates, Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
WOW what a twisty psychological thriller! This is my second read by Sally Hepworth and she did not disappoint. This was really hard to put down. Make sure you check trigger warnings since this is a psychological thriller. I can't wait to read more by Sally. Next up for me is The Mother in Law. The audiobook was so good! This book was narrated by Barrie Kreinik and Jessica Douglas-Henry and I absolutely loved listening to them. It was a really quick listen for me because I couldn't stop listening. I highly Recommend this book if you want a good twisted thriller.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martins Press for allowing me to read this ARC in advance.
I think this is the best Sally Hepworth novel… ever! I’ve read her backlist and I don’t think I was consumed with the book as much as this! The narrator did a phenomenal job bringing these characters to life. As expected with this author, there were twists that I never saw coming!
Trigger warnings: mental health and suicide. I found the audiobook narration done very well. The book is told in a before, present and after, switching throughout the book and with the different characters. I enjoyed the mystery, but felt disconnected from the characters.
Thank you #NetGalley, #MacmillanAudio, #SallyHepworth, #BarrieKreinik, #JessicaDouglas-Henry and #TheSoulmate for the advance audio version for my honest review.
I was thrilled to receive an advance audio book copy of "The Soulmate" by Sally Hepworth. This is my first read/listen by this author although I had heard wonderful reviews about previous works. This book did not disappoint! I loved the multiple time lines and the look "behind the curtain" from the other side. I found the story interesting and it held my attention as I binge-listened so I could figure out the mystery questions. Great storytelling and just enough twists to keep me engaged but not over the top. The audio version was a pleasing listen! Thanks to the publishers for affording the opportunity to review in advance.
This is my first book by Hepworth and it was good, not great. The pacing was well done and kept me interested, but the ending was a bit of a let down. I kept waiting for some big reveal. There was a reveal at the end, but nothing exciting. I did love the audio narration for the multiple POV and flashbacks!
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this as an ebook and as an audiobook. I really enjoyed the narration of this one. I loved the story too. One of the better ARCs I’ve read/listened to in awhile. Loved the twists and the ending. I didn’t find myself connecting to Gabe, Pippa, or the other characters but the great plot made up for it.
The Soulmate tells a story of Gabe and Pippa. Gabe and Pippa reside in a charming cottage situated atop a cliff that offers a breathtaking view. However, the cliff is notorious for being a location where people come to commit suicide, known as "The Drop." Despite the risks, Gabe has previously managed to persuade suicidal individuals not to take their own lives. Unfortunately, one day Gabe himself doesn't return after going out to help someone. The woman in question had disclosed that she was devastated by her spouse's infidelity, and her demise was recorded as a suicide. However, the authorities continue to interrogate Gabe and the woman's husband. When Pippa learns that Gabe knew the victim and did not disclose it, Pippa becomes curious about the truth behind the woman's presence on the cliff, the reason for her husband's deception, and why Gabe concealed his relationship with the victim.
A great read, that will keep you guessing until the very end!
2.5-3 stars i have not read any of Sally Hepworth books. trigger warnings - mental illness, adhd, lying, cheating, sucide, I was looking forward to some twist and turns, the suspense was good and the ending was great. everything was how it should be and she covered all the bases which i loved! sometimes an author leaves a couple things out at the end so youre having to guess, im glad everything was concluded infidelity and murder and marriage ending anxiety. amanda is stuck between life and the afterlife after dying off a cliff and ends up watching how her murder came to be. im glad it ended how it did. the truth came out when it really needed to. sometimes a happy ending isnt what you expect.
This was a quick and enjoyable book to listen to. I have read many books by Sally Hepworth. This book immediately drew me in to the characters and plot. Unfortunately I found the ending predictable and unsatisfactory. The last third of the book was a little slow. Is still enjoyed the book and happily give it a 4 star rating. Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC of this book.
Thanks to @NetGalley and @macmillan.audio for the audiobook!
Gabe and Pippa have recently moved to a house near a cliff, a cliff that is a well-known spot where people frequently come to end their lives. Gabe has a known reputation of being able to talk people out of jumping, until one day a woman jumps, or does she?
The story is told from two perspectives and two timelines, which can be tricky, but was done nicely. At no point was I lost or questioned who the narrator was. Hepworth did a fantastic job of creating complex characters and allowing the reader to really get to know them. Their complexities explained a lot of their story, yet kept you intrigued because you know there is more to them. I felt she kept me, as a reader, questioning Gabe's character the most. On the surface, he seems like a stand-up guy, but the author keeps you wondering if he really is.
The story moved along at a nice pace and tied everything together at the end, which I can appreciate as a reader, I really dislike when I don't get a clear picture of the outcome.
The audiobook narrator did a great job and I enjoyed listening.
Warning this book bring mental health and suicide to light . This book was so good I finished in a day!!!
Takes place in Australia Pippy is a Laywer and the bread maker of her family that has two little girls and a husband. They live in the suburbs in a house off a famous cliff that is known for its deadly curse of suicides. Gabe, her husband has talked 7 people off the ledge this last one however he couldn’t. When the name of the last person to visit there is revealed they can’t believe it’s someone they know and the strength of knowing your soulmate how far will you go?
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
Whoooooo man. This was not good. I really do not have one good thing to say about this. It's 2023, why are we still using mental illnesses as plot devices, especially when it's used as the reason for a character's nefarious doings. In addition, the mental illness(es) was portrayed very poorly. As someone who both is bipolar and has ADHD, this book gives people like us a bad reputation.
This book was not thrilling. In all honesty, I finished it out of a feeling of obligation so that I could review it fairly. You pretty much know or can guess everything up front. The only twist wasn't even that shocking (not that I guessed it but I wasn't like *GASP!*).
I appreciate and thank NetGalley for the opportunity to read this for free in exchange for an honest review, but I will not be picking up any more books from this author.
What I love about this book is how it catches my attention the moment it started. I was so invested in it. I would have probably devour this book in a day if I have no other things to do. It was thrilling, it was sad, definitely full of mystery and yet satisfying. It was an easy read and very inviting.
The Narrators of this Book were captivating and definitely made the entire story worth listening. This is the first book that I’ve read/listen from Sally Hepworth and now I want to try her other works.
I read this book in about 2 sittings. It was engaging and used alternative POV and took place in past and present tense.
It falls under the category of psychological thriller and it was also so much more. It heavily focused on the trust we give our partners and the unconditional love of family.
It was not formulaic at all and kept me engaged in the outcomes of all the characters.
So many good themes of trust, love , family , marriage and mental health.
I can’t wait to check out other titles from Hepworth.
Sally Hepworth is a master at slowly unfolding a story, and The Soulmate is no different. This book kept me guessing as new details emerged and I couldn't want to find out what happened.

Solid domestic thriller but no super exciting twists. Got a little boring in the middle of the book. I was a bit turned off by one of the characters narrating from the afterlife lol. I was annoyed that it was never addressed how Pippa basically caused the whole thing with her lie about Max! I did appreciate the side plot of Asher not being Pippa's biological daughter, and how fully she embraced her into their family. I liked the dual narrators in the audiobook and their voices were both pleasant and clear.
Gabe and Pippa need a fresh start. They decide to move to a gorgeous seaside home with one tiny flaw. It is set on a cliff known as “The Drop”, a spot made famous because people go there to end their lives. In the first few months that they live there, Gabe talks 7 people out of jumping. He is lauded as a local hero, until one day the woman he is trying to save jumps.
Sally Hepworth writes fantastic domestic thrillers. Her pacing is always spot on and you are guaranteed complex dark relationships and lots of eye-popping twists.
Narrated by Barrie Kreinik and Jessica Douglas-Henry in alternating POVs made for a really entertaining audiobook. This was fast-paced and twisty, everything you want in a suburban thriller. Thank you so much to @netgalley and @macmillanaudio for the advanced readers copy!
I'm going against the grain here a bit. Most of the reviews I've seen of The Soulmate have been decidedly positive. Before I continue, I would like to assure those who read this review that I just because *I* did not love this book does NOT mean you won't enjoy it.
I was expecting a fast-paced thriller—instead, The Soulmate read like a common crime drama. I found it drawn-out and a bit mundane. I also did not appreciate the author's approach to mental illness. I probably would not have finished this book had it not been an ALC from NetGalley.
The narration was fine. The writing itself was good, I simply did not care for the plot.
