This was my first book by Sally Hepworth and it won’t be my last! This twisty psychological thriller is told from dual POV: Pippa, wife, mother, and owner of the house that sits next to the cliff, a popular suicide spot, and Amanda, wife to media mogul Max and the most recent victim of the cliff.

This was one of the best thrillers I’ve read in a while. The back and forth between Pippa and Amanda really made the plot twisty as you got to see multiple sides of characters.

This book contains several hot topics, like suicidal and mental illness, so it might be a good idea to check trigger warnings before reading.

Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and Sally Hepworth for an advance copy of The Soulmate in exchange for an honest review! I always have to remind myself that “thrillers” aren’t always thrilling throughout the whole book. I was invested halfway into the book but when the last 20% hit, I was SHOOK! My god, how does Sally keep me wanting to figure out what is happening even with a slow build?! I was shocked with the twists and how this one ended- I’ll also add that I thought this would be 2-3 stars for me and after finishing it, it was an easy 4-4.5 stars!!! I can’t wait to see wait Sally has up her sleeve for us readers next! I believe this one is out on April 4th, 2023!

Another really solid work from one of my must-buy authors. On its face, this book and many of Hepworth's other books are thrillers. But they're so much more than that: they're often insightful portraits of complex, well-rounded women, who have husbands, children, careers, mental health issues, dreams, and conflicting emotions. The "climax" of these books don't tend to pay off in a big bang like many other thrillers, although there usually is some mystery that you're waiting to have solved. You come for the fast-paced writing and time/perspective shifts and stay for the fantastic character studies. The Soulmate was no different, although I didn't like it as much as I've liked some of her other books. Regardless, I'll read anything Sally Hepworth writes.

This was my first Sally Hepworth novel and I did enjoy most of it. There was just something about how the mental illnesses in this book were treated that didn't sit right with me. It felt like medication was treated as a cure to all ills, and that certain plot elements were caused purely by it. That being said, I really enjoyed the narration and the tension that was built over the multiple PoVs. Having an Australian narrator really helped keep me focused on where the book was set, and only added to the ambiance. There's so much trauma built into this book from the premise alone, but we also get to explore the relationships in the family and their sordid past. Pacing was excellent, just hoping for a little more sensitivity in her next book.

This was a dark, twisty story that covered a variety of topics. Mental health, suicide and infidelity to name a few. This audiobook was well read with dual narrators covering two sets of timelines- then/now and before/after. There were a few twists that I saw coming, but overall I still wanted to know more and the ending was great.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sally Hepworth and Macmillan audio for an advanced audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This was the first book by Sally Hempworth I've read, but I'll definitely be reading more. I read the majority of this book in one day because I was completely hooked. Without giving away spoilers, the way it ended after the big reveal took me by complete surprise. I also wasn't expecting part of the narration to be told by someone dead (not a spoiler, this is revealed immediately!) but that was something unique.

"Gabe and Pippa’s dream home [is] in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t. As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel."

Exhilarating, Fast-paced, and Different, I highly recommend this thriller.

Another reader gave me this ARC, but I would still like to thank the publisher and author for providing print copies for review.

TW: suicide, child endangerment (neither are graphic in the book)

**Star rating is based on performance**
Thank you MacMillan Audio for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Solid performance makes this book more entertaining and digestible. I didn't particularly like the MC or understand why they continued to live at a su!cide hotspot but it was interesting at least.

The Soulmate was an intriguing story of a woman who falls from a cliff with a gentleman close by which births speculation of what led to her fall. It was fun to experience the story unfolding with some twists and turns along the way. In the end, however, the story was a bit slow and just not enough excitement for me to rate it higher than 3 stars.

The narrators, Barrie Kreinik & Jessica Douglas-Henry both did a great job. Their emotion came through in their performance and their Australian accents were well done.

Thankyou to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC.

Very interesting story. I really like Sally Hepworth’s writing style. You think you know where the story is going, but nope, it heads off in another direction. This book had me going back and forth on many things. And really throughout the entire book I wanted to shake Pippa and tell her to wake up to the way Gabe was acting and treating her. I felt many times she was only hurting him by allowing him to continue down the path he was going. I didn’t necessarily think Gabe was a bad guy, just someone who clearly needed some help.

Another thing I really like was Amanda’s side of the story. It definitely added a lot of depth to the story hearing things from her point of view.

Overall I really liked The Soulmate. Anytime I see a new book from Sally I k ow it will be an instant read because I always end up loving her writing!

I think the narrators did a great job with this audio, I would highly recommend this version if you like audio!

I can always count on Sally Hepworth for a solid domestic suspense story. This was not my favorite of hers, and I felt it a little long, but I definitely held on for the final twists at the end. Narration was a good fit!

oooofffff. this one kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish! The amount of twists and turns the author takes you on is CRAZY.

I’m not a super big thriller / mystery reader, but when i find one that keeps me engaged the entire time - it’s a win!

I loved the POV. You got POV from Amanda and Pippa, and their POVs went back and forth between present and past. Normally i find audios confusing when they go in this manner but i felt it helped set the mysterious side of the novel by doing so!

I love the mental health representation in this novel. It’s not always butterflies and rainbows and you really got to see how someone struggling with mental health issues handles a marriage and how their partner handles it as well.

TW: Infidelity, suicide, grief and death

It was a 1 day, quick and easy read that i would definitely recommend!

This is my 6th Sally Hepworth, and she has moved to the level of auto-buy author. She writes compelling stories, fleshes out interesting characters and takes the reader on a wild ride. Always. The Soulmate lived up to my expectations.

I am a fan of setting being a character in the story, and this one includes a grand home on a dangerous cliff which is a draw for people looking to end their life. So much of a draw that main character Gabe becomes known for talking people off the edge and saving lives. Until one night.....when catching sight of her husband talking to a distressed woman but Gabe's hands look like they were in the wrong position to be helping her down....

Yeah, it draws you in.

So for my trigger warnings because those did get stepped on a bit in this thriller - mental illness and s*icide. Hard topics for me as both exist in my family and with the loss of a brother I try to avoid books where it smacks me in the face. Unsure I would ever re-read this one, and I caution you if it's also a trigger of yours.

But, if Hepworth writes it, I have to give it a read.

Overall, a well written book, strongly narrated audio and can easily recommend.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for allowing me to listen in advance of the 4/4/23 release date.

Another satisfying domestic suspense from Aussie author Sally Hepworth. The Soulmate was not as good as some of her prior novels, such as The Good Sister, but I still was glued to this story told from the perspectives of two women, Pippa and Amanda.
Pippa, her handsome husband Gill, and their two little girls have left Melbourne for a small coastal town. But they soon discover that their oceanfront dream home has a nightmarish reputation of being located next to a cliff where people commit suicide. Gill has become something of a local hero by being able to literally talk people off the ledge, until one day a woman jumps off in front of him. Or does she?
Hepworth does a great job of letting the details unfurl, and there are plenty of twists. I didn't love the narrative structure, which apart from the two perspectives, also does quite a bit of jumping back and forth in time.
The audiobook was a fun listen, and well narrated by two readers.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for my review.

The Soulmate is a domestic thriller that is not what it seems. Pippa and Gabe seem to have the perfect marriage and life from the outside looking in. They have recently moved to ‘The Cliff House’—a beautiful home that just happens to back up to a cliff that is famous suicide. Gabe becomes a local celebrity after he manages to keep several people from jumping. This has happened so often that Pippa thinks nothing of it when she sees Gabe trying to talk a woman off the ledge. Except this time Gabe couldn’t save her and she dies.

Seems like it is a straightforward suicide. Except that Pippa soon finds out that both she and Gabe are connected to the victim. And her husband, who is determined to find out what happened because his wife wasn’t suicidal. As Pippa works to protect her husband and save her family, we learn who the real soulmates are in this story.

I liked the twists and was surprised by the ending. Pippa was incredibly naive regarding Gabe and put up with way more than most women would. Definitely recommend reading the latest by Sally Hepworth.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Gabe and Pippa’s dream house sits on the edge of a cliff. Unfortunately, this cliff has become famous for the wrong reason. When Gabe fails to talk a woman off the ledge right behind their home, secrets buried in the past begin to spill over and Pippa realizes her life is not as dreamy as she hoped.

I thought this audiobook was pretty intriguing. The listener gets different narrators for two different point of views and the story goes between past and present, moving at a quick pace.

That being said, I would not classify this book as a thriller. There are mystery elements, but the suspense and thrills are lacking. I was not super shocked by the “twists," but did appreciate how complete the ending felt.

This was my first Sally Hepworth book, and I will say that I was pleasantly surprised. This book had a good hook and a lot of twists that kept me intrigued. I wasn’t completely in love with the characters, so that made it a little difficult to fully connect with the book, but overall I enjoyed it!

The Soulmate is surprisingly only my second novel by Sally Hepworth. The Soulmate is a gripping twisty thriller. I had access to both the kindle and audiobook versions. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook more than reading the kindle version. Both narrators, Barrie Kreinik and Jessica Douglas-Henry, did an excellent job narrating the story and switching between the POVs of Pippa and Amanda. They both kept up the suspension as well.

The book centers around Pippa and her husband, Gabe, and their two children. They live in a house near a popular cliff that people use to commit suicide. They successfully helped persuade some jumpers not to jump until the night Amanda showed up. One night, Gabe saw a woman standing on the cliff and went out to help her and realized that they had a connection with each other. Things spiral down quickly, and Amanda jumps. An investigation is now underway, and secrets and the past are coming to light.

I really enjoyed listening to this story. The switch between the different timelines and POVs was nicely done, and the characters all had multiple-layer traits. I was more intrigued with Amanda's storyline than Pippa’s, but both were still compelling
The ending was beautifully tragic, and it wrapped up the book perfectly. Also, the mention of mental illness in the story was respectively done. The book is a fast-paced, heart-wrenching story with secrets and twists galore. I highly recommend listening!

Thank you to Netgallery and to Macmillan Audio for giving me a copy of the audiobook.

The Soulmate portrayed a story full of love, deception, lies and heartbreak. The relationship between Pippa and Gabe was one of codependency, love and frustration. The mental health struggles were so real and raw. The narration provided a pleasant Australian accent which seemed authentic and allowed me to feel truly placed in the outback.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth was fantastic. It was full of secrets, betrayal, questioning relationships, and just thrilling. If you’re in the need for a book that has any of those qualities, this is the book for you. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing the emotion into this book as she read it.
Great book! I would recommend.

I received an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review*

This domestic thriller had me hooked from the get-go. Sally Hepworth really gets you into the story with the complex characters and twisty plot in The Soulmate.

Gabe and Pippa bought a home near a well-known suicide jump on picturesque cliffs. Over the years, Gabe has talked down 7 would-be jumpers. But The Soulmate begins when Gabe isn’t able to save a recent jumper, and Pippa can’t be sure what she really saw. Soon she’s questioning everything - can she really trust Gabe? I thought it was SO well done when we dragged Pippa into the mud! Nobody’s hands were clean and that was fantastic.

The Soulmate closed with a few little twists that I really enjoyed and didn’t see coming! Fantastic 👏🏻👏🏻
