From their new dream house on a cliff, Gabe and Pippa have the perfect view on the Drop, a spot where people notoriously come to end their lives. Gabe has a gift: since they have been living there, he has been able to talk them all off the ledge... all but the last one, Amanda. What happened? Why did Pippa see Gabe's hands outstretched, palms facing after Amanda disappeared off the cliff?
This domestic thriller (of which Sally Hepworth is a queen, IMO), is told in dual POV and timelines, which help with the pacing. What a ride! It grabbed me from page 1, it was a real page turner. Some of the things that happen are far-fetched, some are very predictable, but I still enjoyed the ride! I listened the audio book, and the narration was amazing.
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I can't get enough of Sally Hepworth. Truly, every time I see there's a new book coming from this author, I know I'll love it (or at the very least really enjoy it). _The Soulmate_ is a perfect match with this trend.
Gabe and Pippa make a really bizarre decision (IMO). They buy a beautiful home with a view of stunning cliffs...that are known around town as a popular spot for people who are looking to complete suicide. What's weirder than their general acceptance of this environment is Gabe's engagement with it. He takes it upon himself to redirect folks who come to this cliff, and his success rate is excellent...until the start of this book. It's important to note that folks sensitive to any material relating to suicide might find even the general setting tough to process, so prospective readers should keep this in mind. Did I mention there are small children living in this house? They also have a concerning level of familiarity with what goes on just outside of their home.
The best parts of this book are the twists, especially because (1) there are multiple twists and (2) they're pretty intriguing. Any fan of Hepworth's is also going to expect - AND GET - some really great insight into family relationships here, which was a huge draw for me.
This isn't my VERY favorite from Hepworth, but I did really enjoy it and in the general world of thrillers/mysteries, it's still at the very top. I continue to be so grateful that Hepworth is prolific and putting out only the hits. I'm already hitting refresh constantly to see when the next one arrives!
This is not the first book I read by Sally Hepworth and it won't be my last. I shelved this book as 'want to read' back in July of last year on Goodreads when I first found out about it and was thrilled to death when it was offered to me for review!
Gabe and Pippa live with her two young daughters in a sleepy, coastal town, in a house perched near a cliff. The views are breathtaking, but sadly, this place also attracts desponding people, wishing to the end their lives. Since Gabe and Pippa have lived here, Gabe has been able to intervene successfully and has saved many lives. His name is even been in the paper and he has been known as a local hero. But sadly, there was one night he was unable to save, and that sets the premise for the story.
Pippa is a lawyer and Gabe has gone through a number of jobs. As I was listening to this book, I was thinking to myself, 'it sounds like Gabe has ADHD' and I was right. He did initially receive a diagnosis of that particular condition. I'm an adult with ADHD, and I was diagnosed as a child, and I know the struggles. Pippa and Gabe I have a seemingly good marriage. Pippa has been very understanding with Gabe and all his mood changes and job changes.
This book is narrated by two points of view. Pippa's point of view and the woman that Gabe was unable to save. There are surprises and twists and turns, some I didn't even expect. It takes a good look at marriages and the loyalty and dedication that goes into a marriage.
I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it, and I look forward to Sally's next book. Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
MY GIRL SALLY DOES IT AGAIN!
A lovely couple with two young children move into a gorgeous house. It has everything that you could want ... minus the giant cliff in the backyard. Some folks take it upon themselves to venture over to this cliff, with no intention of leaving. Gabe is able to talk most of them off of the ledge. Until the one time he can't. Everyone believes this is just a simple tragedy, but it turns out that there is much more to it than meets the eye.
I LOVED this book. The way the story was told, and by whose point of view, was unique and intriguing. The story jumped around from past and present and the good ol' plot twist really got me. I always think I know what's going to happen, but I never do!
I strongly recommend that everyone go out and buy this book when it's released in April.
5 enthusiastic stars. ⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐
This addictive and compulsively readable tale about marriage, friendships, betrayals, and the devastating impact of mental illness on family members, checked all of my boxes.
The strength of one's devotion to a "soulmate" was also brilliantly and poignantly showcased in this intricately plotted domestic thriller.
I usually don't enjoy books that reference suicide and/or unfold from the POV of a dead protagonist (in multiple timelines!), but talented author Sally Hepworth made everything work. (Wow!)
The book was fast-paced, compelling, and unputdownable.....with a gasp-worthy ending.
I listened to the full-cast audiobook and all of the narrators did a superb job with the narration.
Sally Hepworth has been a consistent author for me and I always look forward to listening to her new releases.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly, this book had "soul" and was a winner!
One of the fun aspects of reading a Hepworth book is that you know there's going to be wild twists, so you cast suspicion on every character (a lone person getting a mortgage for a cafe in this real estate climate...he must be crooked). It adds a little intrigue to the story, and unfortunately for Hepworth fans, this one needs it.
The book is fine, entertaining to a point, but lacks the interesting characters and plot development that fans are still searching for after reading The Good Sister. It's just bland. For example, the "soulmate" couple read to me like they were married out of a contractual agreement, like a trophy wife on retainer. Maybe roommates, not soulmates.
Either way, it's a good enough story, and Hepworth will remain on the auto-buy list.
Gabe and Pippa’s buy their dream home in a sleepy coastal town on a cliff. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t.
When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral...Did the victim jump? Was she pushed?
And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate...lie? As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel.
This is a good rainy day book! It’s about Gabe and Pippa starting over. It has a few little twists. The ending could have been better but overall it’s a good book.
This book had me in its grip. The characters, the plot, the what if and then it just evens out. It was disappointingly anticlimactic. The narration top very good however.

My first 5-star thriller!
This is the first suspense/thriller novel I’ve read that surprised me with the outcome. Sure, some of the twists could be foreseen due to foreshadowing, but the way The Soulmate ended wasn’t at all how I’d imagined.
I was constantly pivoting throughout the novel; Just when I’d believed certain characters were having an affair, I was proven wrong. When I’d believed the main character’s husband to be guilty, hints of innocence sprouted up and I was doubtful once again. It felt fun to guess throughout listening to the novel — and usually it isn’t for me, the truth being too obvious in other thriller’s.
I’m newer to the thriller/suspense genre, and I’m so excited to have found one I’d recommend to friends and family with certainty that it’s great.
Those who enjoyed Rock, Paper, Scissors by Alice Feeney will almost certainly enjoy The Soulmate. Or anyone who enjoys domestic thrillers in general, truly!
Oh my goodness, I LOVED this book! I’m a big fan of Sally Hepworth and I think this is my favorite of her books so far! Hepworth never fails to write story that makes you want to devour the whole thing in one sitting. The Soulmate was no exception and grabbed me from the very first page, and the way this book ended was pure perfection!!
The audiobook was narrated by Barrie Kreinik and Jessica Douglas-Henry and was perfectly done! I loved every minute of it!
Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC.
Story: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Narration: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Overall: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The Soulmate is the new thriller from one of my auto-buy authors, Sally Hepworth. The story follows couple Gabe and Pippa, who move to a house by a cliff that has a dark reputation. People often come to the cliff to end their lives. Gabe ends up saving multiple people by talking them down, until one day, he doesn’t save the jumper. Then it comes out that Gabe knew the person who jumped and Pippa starts to wonder who exactly she is married to.
The Soulmate starts quick and never lets up on the pace. I loved this mysterious and dark storyline, as well as the different POV and timelines that break up each chapter. The pace is quick, the twists are crazy, and the narration by Barrie Kreinik is perfection (as always). Sally Hepworth never misses.

First, I'm so thankful to NetGalley, Sally Hepworth, Macmillan Audio, and St. Martin's Press for granting me advanced audio access and an e-book of The Soulmate before the book hits shelves on April 4, 2023. This was my first Sally Hepworth book, and while I was enticed by the short chapters and the thrilling start, I was a little disappointed by the twist, but overall it was still a good read.
Pippa, her husband Gabe, and two children live in a gorgeous seaside home on a cliff. They've had no reservations about their home, other than that this backyard cliffside just so happens. It is a famous jump for s*icidal people. Over the years, Gabe has tried to save as many people as he can, pulling them away from danger, but one afternoon, Pippa spots her husband on the cliff with a woman, and after she falls to her death, it almost looks as if Gabe pushed her.
The woman in question just so happens to be the wife of Gabe's former boss, Max. Max and Pippa had previously had an affair, and Amanda was headed to their home to deliver video evidence of the event. Before you go pointing fingers on whose to blame here, buckle up because you're in for a wild twist of a ride.
Gabe is Pippa's soulmate, and they've been through so much together, but does she know the man she claims is her soulmate?
First of all, thank you so much to MacMillan Audio for the opportunity to read and review this audiobook prior to release!
Recently, I read The Younger Wife by Sally Hepworth and instantly knew I wanted to read everything that she wrote/writes. I went back and read The Good Sister and The Mother in Law and enjoyed them all. I was so excited when I saw she had a new one coming, The Soulmate.
I had high expectations, and I was not disappointed at all! This had all the elements I have grown to love in Hepworth novels: great characters, multiple perspectives, dual timelines, twists and turns dropped throughout, and an ending that will blow your mind.
That was seriously one ending that I didn't see coming, and yet it was perfectly satisfying!
I highly recommend this one for your drama/thriller/suspense fix! It's a quick and easy read you won't be able to put down!
The narrator is easy to listen to and adds so much to the story!
4.5 stars rounded up to 5 for GR
This will be available for purchase on April 18, 2023
A gripping, twisty, and super quick read!
The Soulmate tells the story of Pippa and Gabe, a married couple who live on a cliffside in Australia that is a well-known suicide spot. Gabe has talked a few people down from the ledge, but that ends when a woman dies before him. The Soulmate is told from a dual-POV of wife Pippa and the woman who died, Amanda, which gives it a really interesting angle. The narrators did a great job of depicting the characterization of each woman.
The story covers mental health, marriage, family, betrayal, secrets, lies, and more. The pacing is fantastic, and the twists and reveals are well-placed. This is not my first Sally Hepworth book, and it definitely makes me want to dive into more of her back catalogue. Highly recommend!
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for gifting me with an audio ARC to review. I couldn't put it down!
If you’re a fan of psychological domestic thrillers that slowly reveal the answers to a mystery, then give this a try.
This book was fine. I didn’t hate it. Didn’t love it. The characters are blandly unlikable. Not crazed villains that create extra interest, but rather just people who make bad choices and are kinda meh.
The audio was narrated well and this would be a good option to enjoy this as it was well done.
I am beyond impressed with The Soulmate. This book was a page turner. The plot was very engaging from the very beginning. The different perspectives and timelines really kept the story very interesting and constantly left me guessing. The characters were so real. The author did a fantastic job showing the good and bad sides of everyone. The development and growth through the story was well done. The narration for the audiobook was amazing and really helped with immersion. The Soulmate was a binge worthy book and I really enjoyed it.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by Sally Hepworth - I was happy to receive this as a audio copy. The narrator was good and I liked the flow of the story. I liked the way the chapters alternated and I loved the twists. Going on my reader's advisory list.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I did read the test version of this audiobook already and didn’t love it but wanted to see if the audiobook version was better.
I enjoyed the audio version better even though the book itself still wasn’t great and was rather unbelievable.
The narrators did a good job on the book.
I listened to this in one sitting sadly it wasnt for me i enjoyed the past and present in the chapters. But i didnt like the characters or their development. Did get confused in the beginning just didnt like the writing for me
