The intersecting stories and the different reveals throughout this novel made this a great read. I love that you think you have an understanding of the story from the beginning but each new reveal brings it's own nuances and you are left wondering if your assumption was correct. I am very much looking forward to reading more books from Sally Hepworth in the future.

Narrators Barrie Kreinik and Jessica Douglas-Henry did a great job of bringing this story to life. I loved their accents and I could have listened to them all day long.

#FirstLine - PIPPA (NOW) “Someone is out there.”

I adored this book! I could not put it down. I was instantly pulled into the story. It was so perfectly plotted. I loved the varied perspectives and the switch in timelines of past and present. I loved that I never knew what was going to happen or how things would come together. This is what kept me burning through the pages and kept me fully engrossed. I also listened to the audiobook version as well. It was well done and perfectly narrated. This story is an A+ 5 star read whether you listen to it or read it, or both!!! A must read!

Sally Hepworth is consistently proving to be quite the contender in the psychological mystery genre. Her latest novel, The Soulmate, delves behind the scenes of seemingly perfect marriages. The story follows Gabe and Pippa living in their dream home on the cliffs in Australia. However, those cliffs are the ideal location for those wanting to end their lives. Gabe soon becomes known as a local hero for how many times he has talked those down from the edge of the cliffs. Gabe and Pippa's perfect life quickly unravels after Gabe is unsuccessful at deterring someone from jumping. Pippa is left wondering if the woman jumped or if she was pushed. The need to discover the truth led me to finish this book as quickly as possible!
I look forward to reading more by Sally Hepworth.

I couldn't put this psychological thriller down. Full of twists and turns and secrets - just when I thought I had things figured out, another curve ball would come flying out of nowhere. I also love it when you don't really know if a character is a good guy or bad guy and this had more than one well-developed chameleon characters. I alternated between reading the e-book and listening to the audiobook while driving and it was a seamless transition. Easily switched back and forth multiple times. Great narration with the audiobook, which was perfect because I didn't want to stop reading when it was time to do chores or run errands and this allowed me to keep going with the story! Highly recommend for fans of mysteries, psychological thrillers, and Sally Hepworth's other works.

In an effort to get away and make a fresh start, Pippa and Gabe purchase a house on a cliff, a popular suicide location, where Gabe quickly builds a reputation for having the ability to talk would-be jumpers to back away from the side of the cliff. But one night, a woman appears on the edge of the cliff that causes everything in the Gerard’s lives to become questionable. How well do you truly know the person you’re married to? What are they really capable of? As Pippa tries to navigate the events of that night she begins to question everything she thinks she knows about Gabe and their relationship. Meanwhile, the husband of the latest jumper is on a personal mission to find out what really happened, as he’s sure his wife was NOT suicidal. Was this blowback from his shady business dealings, or did he really not know his own wife as well as he thought he did?

Again, another gripping thriller! This was a book I had already read, but wanted to check out the audio. The narrator was great.

This is my second read from this author, and I’m so glad I enjoyed it much more. This is a domestic thriller, but it also focuses on family dynamics. There were some suspenseful moments, but it’s not your typical kind of thriller.

I highly recommend going into this book completely blind - and possibly checking the trigger warnings as this book focuses a lot on mental health.

I was completely entertained the whole way through and loved the short chapters. We also get dual POVs with Pippa and Amanda. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I’ll just say I found them both interesting to read about - were they the greatest? No, but they were still fun to follow.

I also really enjoyed the atmosphere of this Australian cliff. It was super eerie! There were also many twists throughout the book. I didn’t find all of them shocking, but some did surprise me.

The ending wasn’t my cup of tea. I feel like it didn’t wrap up nicely considering everything the characters went through, but I guess it made sense.

I had a great discussion with a few bookish people about this story. It was definitely entertaining and quick!

Thank you so much St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the gifted e-ARC and Macmillan Audio for the ALC in exchange for my honest review!

Definitely some gothic vibes in this twisty. Living along the cliff, a lot of references to candles and dull lights, many many hidden secrets, a little bit of an unreliable narrator.
Through the entire book, before and after, we see Pippa trying to make tough decisions. I can’t share all of them without giving some of the “twistiness” away - but she is constantly having to decide whether being with Gabe is the best decision for herself and then her family.
Sally Hepworth is a pro at the twisty. I feel like a pretty good twisty reader, but she always gives me a jolt here and there - and this gave me quite a few along the way. The Mother-In-Law is another one that I just love of hers.
Lastly, you know how I love to decipher a great title and this one is interesting. Straight out of the gate, you see that it seems that Gabe and Amanda are soulmates - but I I love that the author surprised me with the ending regarding this title.
But - in the end - what would you do for your soulmate?

The Soulmate is told by two women - Pippa and Amanda and it is told by them “before” and “now”. The “before” is before Amanda throws herself off of a cliff after finding out that her husband cheated on her. Oh wait…was is suicide?
Here is the starting point: Pippa has the life! She is married to an amazing man, Gabe, that everyone envies her over. She has two beautiful little girls and lives in her dream home on a cliff, looking out over the ocean. And, she works from home as an estate and wills lawyer. But, she and Gabe have not had it easy. They have both made some pretty big mistakes in their lives together - but they make it through by never giving up on each other. The house in which they live is situated on a cliff that has become a place that is known for suicide jumpers. And, so far, her amazing husband Gabe has talked 6 people off of the cliff - not losing a single one to suicide.
Amanda married herself to a wealthy media guru - with the understanding that she is marrying a partner (not really for love). He will provide for her and be a good husband and she will take care of the house and schedule, walk around on his arm at parties and not ask to ever have children.
Somehow, through many twists and turns, Amanda ends up on the cliffs behind Pippa and Gabe’s home and this is the one person that Gabe has not been able to talk off of the cliff.

So, if you want a book with some gothic twisties and a book that looks at all of the tough choices you have to make as a mother, wife, and general human being in this world - check out The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth.

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth was a good read. The plot was something new and interesting. While it was a bit predictable, one twist was a shock! The characters were flawed, kept secrets, and made awful decisions. This is what makes them seem real and kept me turning the pages. This book did not disappoint.
The narration by Barrie Kreinik and Jessica Douglas-Henry was great. The speed, tone, and inflection were spot on to add tension to the story.

***** I received an ARC from NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my honest review. *****

OH MY GOD THIS WAS ADDICTING!!!!

I seriously could not put this book down (aka turn off the audio). I get nervous when the narrator has an accent BUT SHE CRUSHED IT. The story alternated between POVs: Pippa, then and now, and Amanda, before and after.

A family lives in a little cottage right by a known suicide spot. The husband, Gabe, is known for his efforts to save anyone who walks to the edge, and he has been successful each and every time, until now. Pippa, the wife, sees some walk towards the edge and tells Gabe to go, as she calls 911. She watches from the window. One second she sees them in an intense conversation and the next she sees Gabe by himself with his hands in a weird outstretched way.

Now we get to dive into the investigation and learn about how these two characters interconnect! I seriously loved it so much. I never knew where the story was going to take me and the plot twists GOT ME GOOD!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS YALL

I will never stop reading this author. Every book has the perfect mix of drama, intrigue and mystery. Sally Hepworth is one of the best at domestic/psychological thrillers.
This one was no exception. I liked that there was a bit of a spin on what we thought we knew to be true. There was a little bit of hope and bittersweetness in the way this wrapped up which I very much enjoyed.

Just when you think you have it all figure out, BAM! Nope, you were wrong!! This was fantastic and so atmospheric. The narration and the storyline was well paced and really shows great character development.

Review: The Soulmate 🌊

If you guys know anything about me, you know I’m a HUGE @sallyhepworth fan. She writes amazing books and is hilarious to follow on Instagram and I may or may not have once asked a hairdresser for a “Sally Hepworth” haircut. 💇🏼‍♀️

The Soulmate is a domestic thriller at its best. This story is about Gabe and Pippa: a couple with a past and enough skeletons in their closets to fill a graveyard. But, they’re trying. They’ve moved to a beautiful new home on a cliff and are ready start over. It’s all going fine and dandy until people start visiting their cliff … to jump. Luckily, Gabe has a habit of saving would-be victims … until he doesn’t. Until a woman goes over. And Pippa starts to wonder about the man she is married to …

TYSM to @macmillan.audio,@netgalley and @sallyhepworth for the ALC!

Audiobook Note: The narrators were pretty good. Pippa's narrator was spot-on, but Amanda's didn't altogether match the character. There was a slyness about her delivery that made Amanda seem much more self-aware than she ultimately was. That won't make sense unless you listen for yourself. But even if you don't, this is one to read for sure. Recommended.

I really enjoyed this one. Sally Hepworth is the kind of domestic suspense writer I most gravitate toward. The surprises and twists are well within the realm of the possible, never go for cheap shock value, and the characters are always flawed and interesting with full backstories, the details of which she sprinkles gradually throughout her novels without being too heavy-handed about it. And then later on, when the relevance of a particular fact comes into focus, you go, 'Whoa! So that's why that was important!'

In this one, we're introduced to two very complicated couples: Pippa and Gabe; and Max and Amanda, whose lives become intertwined after a very tragic event. The event itself is extraordinary, but even more so, is the gradual deconstruction of the relationships of both couples in flashbacks as well as in how they deal with their current situation. Pippa and Gabe are a love-match, a couple who have the kind of bond they pride themselves on being beyond anyone else's comprehension. We learn this through Pippa's narration of their life together, which as the book progresses feels less and less reliable.

Then there's Amanda and Max. We learn about them through Amanda's voice. Unlike Pippa and Gabe, their match was one born of pragmatism. At least that's what Amanda believes. Like Pippa, she's very confident she understands what her husband and marriage are about. And like Pippa, she may very well prove wrong. Despite the primary element of suspense, this book was also about marriage, and the secrets we keep within a marriage and the lies we tell ourselves about them.

This was a quick read when I found time to do it, and I also listened. Thanks #NetGalley for both the ebook and audiobook.

This twisty novel will keep you guessing as you fall in love with characters that you soon will also come to suspect of murder.

Hello new favourite Sally Hepworth! This book was an absolute delight and reminded me why I love these mystery-domestic thriller type books and why I fell in love with Sally Hepworth. This book was fast paced and kept me guessing, even when I was sure I was going to figure out how it was all going to play out. The characters were all awful in their own ways but it really worked in this book.

I was super confused with the title for most of the book, but I loved how it all came together for the reveal later on. I really liked how everyone had secrets that both intertwined and had nothing to do with each other, so it really kept you guessing and surprised when things were unveiled. There was a lot of mental health/mental illness discussions that I thought were handled very well and quite informative too!

I didn’t love this one as much as I was hoping to. It was twisty and interesting, but I didn’t click with it like the good sister or the mother in law. I liked most of the characters and the setting. A first I wasn’t sure about amanda’s pov but it worked. I thought the ending was a wee bit anticlimactic. Anyway. I didn’t hate it at all, I will continue to read Sally Hepworth, this one just wasn’t a hit for me and that’s ok.

Hepworth creates a thrilling page-turner with an examination of obsessive relationships. Two couples, Max and Amanda and Pippa and Gabe, their passions and traumas, their inter- and co-dependency, their secrets and lies.

POVs switch from Pippa to Amanda, then to now. Amanda falls from a cliff in front of Gabe and Pippa’s house in an apparent suicide. Amanda speaks to the reader after her death, from an omnipresent “in-between” place. Pippa is scrambling to protect her family as the investigation in Amanda’s death exposes that Gabe knows her.

Fast-moving, thrilling, yet logical and cleverly well-paced, this was a great read.

This was a mixed bag for me. While I LOVED Sally Hepworths The Good Sister, this lacked the twists and emotional punch of her previous novels. I did enjoy the deep dive and exploration into each of the couples' relationships, but the mystery was just middle of the road. I was hoping for a more dynamic ending.

The narration was extremely done. I really enjoyed audiobook.

Previousy reading The Good Sister and The Younger Wife and loving them, I knew I needed to pick up Sally Hepworth's newest thriller, The Soulmate.

Within the opening pages, we meet Gabe, a family man and a good father. Gabe has become somewhat of a local hero since they moved to a cliff house. He has talked seven people down from stepping off the edge of "the drop." But Gabe’s involvement in trying to stop suicidal strangers takes an dramatic turn when investigators wonder about the woman he was unable to save.

Hepworth sensitively addresses suicide, workplace stress, parenthood, bipolar disease, depression and infidelity. Page after page, in this quick read, I kept wondering what secrets and admissions were coming? Ultimately, Hepworth has us thinking about love and what would you/wouldnt you do for your soulmate?

Lastly, I was lucky enough to enjoy both a book and and audio version of the Soulmate. I appreciated them equally. Barrie Kreinik; Jessica Douglas-Henry really made the story come alive in the audio version.

Many thanks to Netgalley, St. Martins Press and McMillan Audio for this twisty tale. With so many discussion points - Hepworth has given us the perfect book club read!
