Twisty and full of suspense. Good story and characters. Plot was on point. Overall I enjoyed it. A bit run of the mill for the genre, but not bad.
I enjoyed this book so much! Even though it had a predictable plot, that did not inhibit any enjoyment. This is a nail biter all the way. I also liked the very clever ending
I was really hoping this story had a great twist that I was completely shocked by and never would have predicted. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. I thought the story was interesting, yet kind of cheesy and far fetched.
It took me a hot minute to get into this one, but once It did, I was hooked.
I honestly did not see the outcome coming. I imagined things several other ways but never that way. I love a shocker.
Thank you Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review
This is a psychological thriller, well narrated throughout by both narrators. The story is told from alternating viewpoints; Fern and her husband Drew. He’s supposedly looking for a less pressured life and they relocate from Manchester to Scotland, He’s arrogant and driven and clearly has another agenda. Fern is happy to go along with the move, but she too isn’t as she seems.
I felt the pace was at times just a little too slow. Whilst scenes were being set, it dragged in parts and I found my concern drifting a little. You also have to suspend belief a bit; it’s a little contrived. Overall, it’s enjoyable but for me lacked the buzz to whip through it.
My thanks to the publisher for a review copy via Netgalley.
THANK YOUs: A BIG Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for gifting me this ALC (Advanced Listening Copy)!
SYNOPSIS: “My husband is a doctor. He's smart and charming and everybody trusts him. Except me. On the surface, it looks like I have it all – the perfect marriage, the perfect husband, the perfect life.”
Fern is married to Drew Devlin, a well-respected family doctor. Their marriage is one of perfection….if looking from the outside in. But Drew has a secret that he thinks is safe, and hell hath no fury like a woman scorned when Fern discovers he’s been cheating in their marriage with another married woman named, Alice. Fern plots her revenge in more ways than one, and her destruction is one you won’t be able to turn away from!
REVIEW: Another additive read by Daniel Hurst! This story was full of betrayal and deception with many shocking twists and turns. Just when you think you have it all figured out, you won't see what happens next. Be prepared not to put this thriller down!
Happy reading!

**below is for netgalley feedback only**
I've purchased a couple of Daniel Hurst's books before (his earlier novels) and have not particularly enjoyed them, but his writing skills have definitely improved as this one was really enjoyable.
**public review**
I could not get enough of this and had to listen to it in one sitting. The message here is careful who you sleep with 😉
You know it's a good audiobook when you finish the entire thing in 2 days!
Both narrators were excellent and I listened avidly the whole time.
The characters kept me in suspense, I was intrigued by the little references they made and I didn't know who to trust!
I had suspicions over the ending, but it didn't stop my enjoyment. I adore this author's books and this one can easily be added to the recommended list!
Thank you NetGalley for the audio copy in exchange for a honest review. Dr Drew Devlin and his wife Fern have moved from a busy city to a small seaside setting for a quiet life. Drew has a secret. He moved to rekindle his relationship with his mistress. But Fern knows all about Drew’s sordid secret and is out for revenge. A brilliantly written thriller with unexpected twists.
The Doctor’s Wife is a psychological thriller about a married couple and an unfaithful husband. Fern and Drew move away from Manchester to try and create a better work life balance due to Drew’s career a busy GP. Drew has other reasons to want to move to the small village near the border with Scotland and Fern is oblivious to this.
The story seems quite far fetched at times and I also felt the pace was far too slow at the start. It also felt like the author has a thesaurus open while writing as some of the word choices seemed a little unnatural. Fans of this particular genre will enjoy it.
“The Doctor’s Wife” is the first novel by Daniel Hurst that I have read. It will not be my last! He clearly knows how to write a fast paced and intriguing thriller.
Right off the bat, our story starts with the “appearance of a body in an unexpected place.” We know as soon as we start the book what will happen. What we do not know are the events that will lead up to this event, nor do we know why. The readers already know what will happen in this book, so I am not sure why the author chose to reveal this so early on. Personally, I would have rather it not even been included.
Our story is told from alternating points of view of Drew and his wife, Fern. The couple had just relocated from bustling city of Manchester to a quiet village of Aberness, near the Great Britain and Scotland border. Drew promised that he would feel less stressed working as a doctor in a smaller setting and would have more time to spend with his wife. Despite how beautiful their new house and village will be, Fern is a “city girl” but has to go along with the move.
On the outside, Drew and Fern would seem to be a perfect couple. Drew is arrogant, loving to refer to himself as DOCTOR Drew Devlin. Fern loves that he is a doctor, not only for his paycheck, but also for the convenience of having a doctor at hand. Drew may think that his wife is a pushover, and doesn’t know his TRUE reason for wanting to move to Aberness, but it is clear he underestimates her.
I do not want to reveal too much more of the plot to say that this author has done an excellent job of writing characters who are NOT likable at all. They are very much unreliable narrators but in a good way! It adds to the thrilling part of this psychological thriller and helps to drive the pace along. I definitely will be reading more of Daniel Hurst’s books soon if they are as fast paced, twisty, and thrilling as this one! I also must say that I loved the two narrators. Having the right voice actors can make or break a book, and this book has two excellent ones.
Thank you NetGalley, Daniel Hurst, and Bookouture Audio for an advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Doctors Wife
By Daniel Hurst
First, thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy of this twisty thriller.
I love a good thriller and this book was for not not disappointing. Fern and Dr Drew have what appears to be a perfect life or so Dr Drew thinks that is what he is portraying to his wife. Drew picks up and moves him and his wife from a busy town to a small quiet and quaint town. He thinks his secret is safe but little does he know that Fern knows exactly what he is up too and has a few tricks up her sleeve.
I enjoyed listening to this story and the narrator. It kept me entertained and excited to see the next twist.
Again, thank your the advanced copy.
So, for starters i hate the cheating trope. Thats the only reason this book is not a five star. In this thriller we follow a doctor who doesn’t know how to be faithful and a wife who's had enough. Enough to make a mastermind plan. I enjoyed this read for the most part but i will say the ending which i won’t spoil i feel was a bit unnecessary. Unless this book is going to have a sequel.
This is the second book I have read by Daniel Hurst and both have been thrilling and a massive roller-coaster. This book had some fantastic twists and I never expected that last chapter and it took my breath away, it won't be easy to forget believe me. It is an addictive read that I struggled to put down reading it just one day.. I listened to the book as an audio book and enjoyed the narration it also helped massively with the multiple POVs. I am desperate to read more Daniel Hurst books ASAP.
Grabbed me in immediately and had me hooked! I listened in one day! Twisted until the end!
Narrated fabulously by Sarah Durham & David Wayman.
Thank you, Daniel Hurst, Bookouture Audio, Bookouture, & Netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.
The Doctor’s Wife is my first novel by Daniel Hurst and I think I will return to his novels in the future!
The prologue starts differently from most thrillers: You know from the beginning that there is a murder and who the found body is, so here we go! But, when I realized what the trope was that The Doctor’s Wife consisted of, I wasn’t sure of my choice to listen to this novel. It’s a trope I am not a huge fan of, but the audiobook is so short that I decided to listen to some more. Then I was surprised: I got fully invested into the story and didn’t want to stop listening to it!
Both Fern and Drew are unlikeable for more than one reason and have many issues, but I became #TeamFern all the way! This one has pov’s from both Fern and Drew and also takes place in the past and present.
It has twists that keep coming, some I predicted, some I didn’t. I really did enjoy this one! Both narrators did a great job portraying Fern and Drew.
**Many thanks to the publisher Bookouture Audio for granting me an audio copy to listen to and review!
very entertaining and a real page-turner, despite being quite predictable for the most part. bonus points for the manchester accent in the audiobook!
Thank you for this free audio book in exchange for my review. I am obsessed with Daniel Hurst thrillers! They are so scrumptious and outlandish, I gobble them up in just a few sittings. The Doctor’s Wife was actually not my favorite of his so far, but it still kept me reading and intrigued. Of course, it’s the titular doctor’s wife herself who takes you on a crazy and manipulative revenge adventure. I don’t usually love twists in the epilogue, but dang, this author can do it! I’m so hooked at this point, I feverishly check for his latest releases daily and hope I get approved!!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the review copy!
“The Doctor's Wife” by Daniel Hurst is a very interesting thriller. This is a book of plot twists and lots of interesting twists and turns. You never know what is about to happen. Furthermore, the story holds a lot of suspense throughout the book.
I was not fully caught by the story at first, but towards the end, I was caught by a surprise. This is surely an interesting story. I will therefore tell you to be patient with the story, since it develops into an even more suspenseful story through the pages.
I ended up listening to most of the book as an audiobook, and then I read the rest. I would actually say that I enjoyed reading it by myself more than listening to it.
The Doctor's Wife by Daniel Hurst is a fantastic thriller that will have you guessing which person is the "bad guy" to the very end.
The story revolves around a married couple, Fern and Drew, and the chapters alternate between being told from each of their perspectives. As this was the audiobook version of the novel, the narrators were wonderful and added significantly to my enjoyment of the novel.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
