He thinks his secret is safe. But she knows the truth…

My husband is a doctor. He’s smart and charming and everybody trusts him. Except me.

On the surface, it looks like I have it all – the perfect marriage, the perfect husband, the perfect life. But it’s far from the truth.

Doctor Drew Devlin is not the respectable figure he makes out to be. The reason we moved to this beautiful, old property with a gorgeous view of the sea was because we needed to put our past behind us. It should’ve been a fresh start for us both.

Except I’ve discovered my husband has been lying to me again. He’s using the power he has in his job to mess with people’s lives, and to get exactly what he wants – no matter who it hurts.

But he’s underestimated me. I’ve had plenty of time, in this big, isolated house, to think about all of his mistakes.

And my husband has no idea what’s about to happen next…

My Opinion

You know a book is good when you finish it in one day! This is the second book I have read by Daniel Hurst and both have had an intricate, addictive plot. The books gets off to a slow start but do not let that fool you. An entertaining read. This was a nice, easy read - the plot was detailed but not difficult to follow and even has some good plot twists.

I REALLY enjoyed this one! There were tons of great twists and turns and the ending *chef's kiss*. I would recommend this one to anyone. I loved that I didn't like any of the characters and couldn't wait to see what happened to them. I can't wait for the next in the series. Quick easy read. #TheDoctorsWife #NetGalley

The doctor’s wife
4.5 ⭐️

Fast paced domestic thriller, I do love some dual pov. Pov from drew the doctor and his wife. Less than 250 pages all engaging! There wasn’t one part in the book that bores me it is very entertaining. Dr. Drew lacks morals but who can hold the secrets better only time will tell.
Fern wow oh wow 😯 If you want a book that will keep u reading/ listening this is it! Who’s secret is safe?

The narrators do such a good job! I would absolutely listen to them alll day the story telling is so good! If you are an audio listener then I highly suggest it! 1.5x speed was perfect pace went great with the accent or the storyline.

If you liked the perfect marriage then you will definitely like this one!

That old saying of a woman scorned certainly has its moments in this story. You know what they say about perfection.....that it's often an illusion, a play, a scene played out on the stage of life.

For Dr Drew Devlin and his wife Fern, their marriage looked perfect. However, it's all an illusion for Drew has been hiding a secret, one he believes he has hidden well, but his wife, Fern knows. Of course Drew is everything one desires in a mate. He is handsome, wealthy, successful, and full of charm. He is also a manipulative liar. In Fern, he has found the perfect mate, a quiet woman who doesn't mind, so it seems to be left behind as Drew steps forward with panache and arrogance. He's pretty despicable, but Fern loves him or so she claims.

Drew is clueless that Fern in thinking that Fern is a pushover. She knows way more than Drew can even imagine and Fern has a plan that will encircle a group of people in the new town that the Devlin's have moved to. Can't say you might not care for Fern and her husband. They are both deserving of one another, but of course once again one part of the couple misjudges the other with dire consequences.

Jan and I listened to this story and really enjoyed the story skills of the author, Daniel Hurst. He presented us with a tale with just forward motion, no need for extraneous details not preaching the popular issues of today. How refreshing really!

At the conclusion, one may hope that all of the characters get their just desserts, although there is one who while seeming to escape, just might not have.

Thank you to Daniel Hurst, Bookouture, narration by Sarah Durham, David Wayman, and NetGalley. This book is due out January 31,2023.

3 stars rounded up for what I’d maybe suggest is a beginners thriller.

The story is told from 2 sides, and two timelines, with another couple as main characters, not one of them likeable in the slightest. Awful people doing truly awful things. Isn’t that sometimes just the way of the world?! I’d suggest rather than a mystery or a thriller the novel reads more like a not so subtly boastful confession. Ferne and Doctor Drew are not as happily married as either of them would have you believe, Drew has been conducting an affair and when his mistress and her husband move to Aberness and leave him pining he persuades Ferne that they should “to bring them closer” relocate to yes you guessed it Aberness. Where Drew meets his demise and we sit and wait to figure out who, how and how did they ever get away with it……..

Thankfully the book was fairly short, it kept a pretty good pace, but unfortunately it was all a bit predictable and unbelievable throughout for me. Especially the very end.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in return for an honest review.

Book with a lot of twist and when you thought it was over, the twist kept coming
A doctor is cheating and wants to move to be closer to his mistress
But he doesn't stop to think if his wife will find out about his infidelities. He thinks everything is smooth sailing
Be careful what you wish for Doctor. Your wife may know more than what you think she does

I loved listening to this book as an audiobook, and while the tale of revenge might be a common trope, I really enjoy the execution of this book (no pun intended).

This book opens with a dead body on the beach. Reader's are unsure who this body belong to, but what unfolds is a story of love, betrayal and a lot of revenge. The pacing of this book was terrific and I never felt like I was bored waiting for the next thing to happen. The ending semi left on a cliff hanger, and it feels like it could be a sequel, or at least a small update about what happens next. I hope the author gives readers an answer during his book tour. In addition to the great pacing, I love dual POV's which we get from Fern (the wife) and Drew (the Doctor and her husband). As an audiobook, Fern and Drew had different narrators so it was easy to follow whose POV you were hearing about.

I will definitely be adding Daniel Hurt to my list of authors to keep up with.

What do you do when you need a fresh start? You move. At least, that is what the doctor and his wife do. A fresh start … or is it? Dr Drew moves from the big city to the small town to ease his stress and start over. At least that is what he tells his wife, and why would his simple wife think any differently. This one has more twists than I expected and it was a thrilling read. The one question I have is - will there be a sequel? Thanks to NetGalley for the read!

“She hadn’t been the only one in this village who had loved the deceased. He was popular with the opposite sex, too popular, if anything. And that was one of the reasons why he was now dead.”

The Doctor’s Wife starts off with a dead body on the beach. You don’t know who that body belongs to or how it came to be there. But you find out that and so much more as this story masterfully unwraps like a present.

Wheeeeeee this was quite a ride. I flew through this book in record time! It was just so compulsively readable. With dual POV, both Fern (the wife) and Drew (the husband), and short chapters, this murder mystery kept me guessing and was twisty turny throughout. I don’t want to say too much more as I think the more blind you go in the more you’ll get from it.

I was given an advanced copy of the audio along with the ebook and it was fantastic. Told with dual narrators, one each for Fern and Drew, it was captivating and sucked me right in. Each narrator expertly captured the tone and mindset of these characters, making them seem all the more real. Just a fantastic story and a fantastic delivery all around!

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Bookouture Audio, Bookouture Publishing, and the author for the ARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review.

This was an excellent audiobook! It kept me interested the entire time.

The outrage you’ll feel while listening is pretty impressive. From the cheating, to the overall mistrust and injustice…there’s never a dull moment.

However, sometimes characters aren’t what they seem in this one.

It’ll have you on the edge of your seat as it draw to conclusion.

This one wrapped up nicely but also left the possibility open for a sequel.

The audio narrator did a really nice job on this one.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book was an okay thriller, but was predictable at times. Drew was a very annoying and unlikeable character which made the story more intriguing as it was hard to imagine why his wife would have stayed with him from the beginning.

I love a good story about a woman scorned. About a third of the way through, I was afraid this story was headed in a different direction and I was pleasantly surprised when one of the main characters extracted their revenge. Judging by the epilogue, I don't think this will be the last of Fern's antics. I really enjoyed Daniel Hurst's writing style and the story itself kept me guessing and provided as I mentioned, a gratifying ending. I listed to the audiobook version and found both narrators to have pleasant speaking voices and were very believable in their respective roles. A big thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture audio and of course Daniel Hurst for this thrilling ARC. Looking forward to a sequel!

Featuring ~ dual 1st person POV, dual timeline, infidelity

*Possible spoilers ahead*

We've got another husband and wife story with secrets and betrayal and this one follows Fern & Drew.

Although Fern wasn't particularly likable I was happy that she wasn't a naive wife and had her own tricks up her sleeve. I did feel bad for her when Drew was saying how much he cared for Alice. He comes off as sleazy as he's supposed to.

This one was super fast paced and kept me engaged. You pretty much know what's going to happen from the prologue, which gives a lot away. I still did not see the twist coming though, but figured it out after the wink. I do like how that all played out. Nice epilogue too!

Narrated by Sarah Durham and David Wayman for 7 hours and 20 minutes. Sarah did an alright job, didn't love her male voice, but was able to listen to her at 2.5x. David did an alright job too, but I had to slow him down to 2x for his chapters.

The Doctor's Wife by Daniel Hurst had me immediately hooked. I love that we hear both Alice and Drew's perspectives and pretty much know what each knows. The prologue may seem like it gives a lot away, but it really doesn't. Most of the twists are logical, making the book feel even more believable. However, I didn't like the redundancy between Fern and Drew's chapters and found the ending less believable than the rest of the book. Overall, I rate The Doctor's Wife 4 stars.

Sarah Durham and David Wayman were amazing narrators; I believed they were Fern and Drew.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio for providing me with an ALC.

I really liked this book. I loved it all but the ending with Greg that was a bit of a disappointment. I didn’t think it was necessary.

It was difficult for me to get into at first, but I did after a few chapters! The main character thinks she's moving to the countryside for a new beginning and fresh start to her marriage, but come to find out her husband had alternative motives for the move. The twists weren't entirely unpredictable, but it was a fun read with a good revenge plot!

Ooh yes this book was a delight! It had everything I want in a domestic thriller: lies, murder deceit and revenge.

Drew (the doctor) and Fern are married and have recently moved from Manchester to a small village. We get POV’s from both of them throughout the novel, and both Pat and present timelines. Drew wanted to move to this village to be closer to Alice, a woman he has been having an affair with. However, he does not know that Fern is all too aware of Alice and their illicit affair.

This story slowly revealed its secrets as it went on, though most of them were not difficult to guess. Once in the village Fern purposely tries to get close to Alice and her husband Rory, to make Drew as uncomfortable as possible. As the novel continues on you see more shades of gray morality from almost all of the characters and it keeps you reading on.

While I won’t say this novel was groundbreaking or unpredictable it was compulsively readable and delightfully entertaining! I loved every second of it.

My thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture Audio for this arc to enjoy and review.

OMG did I love this story! Fern Devlin is the ultimate woman scorned when she finds out the big move from the city her doctor husband wants, to a nice quiet village for a more peaceful life is not his true reason , but another secret that Fern knows and hatches the ultimate revenge plot.

Love the twists and turns. This story needs a sequel please!

I really enjoyed this book. It was such a classic domestic mystery, which is hard for me to not like. I did not predict the twist until right before it happened and I love when all the pieces fall together nicely. The twists kept coming after the main twist though and it ended up starting to become just a tiny bit too much. The main character was quickly relatable and her husband was quickly unlikable which went so well with the beginning story line. This was a very easy book to get into right from the beginning and I read it in almost one sitting. This is great for people who like The Last Mrs. Parrish and All The Dangerous Things.

Full disclosure - I have been an avid reader consuming multiple books at once for the last 45 years. Up until lock-down, my genres of choice were always post apocalyptic and dystopian fiction. For obvious reasons, I could not read those when sitting in a house waiting for the world to end. So, in a complete 180, I started reading a genre I had never read - domestic thrillers. Now? It's my bread and butter. One after the other I read them all and although I've seen Daniel Hurst's name on Instagram, this was my first of his books. It did not disappoint.

In short, a married couple relocate from city to country - the wife thinking it's for the husband's mental health to be away from the rat race and lead a slower wife. Yup, that's not why they moved.

There were so many twists and turns in this one with lots of inner monologue moving the story forward. I liked the wife, I really disliked the husband. And, the best compliment I can give is I did not guess the ending.

A solid piece of fiction for those of us who enjoy a tiny bit of subterfuge and revenge.
