Rebel Girls are everywhere. Their stories encourage girls to take risks and to believe in themselves. This illustrated chapter book is filled with what makes the series a perfect one for young readers. Here is the story of a girl who learned to take risks even when she was worried or scared, and who was the first woman to climb the world's tallest mountain. It is an inspiring title, not only for Junko's athletic accomplishments but also for her character and caring. Her life was not always easy. For example, there were deaths in her family. She did not always feel that she fit in but she kept putting one foot in front of the other. Junko is a fine role model.

The author does a nice job of telling Junko's story in a book that is filled with details about her life, a special teacher who believed in her, and her her home country, Japan. I highly recommend it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Rebel Girls for this title. All opinions are my own.

"JUNKO TABEI MASTERS THE MOUNTAINS" is a historical novel about Junko Tabei, the first woman to climb Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. It is an extremely encouraging and deeply empowering book. It issues a clarion call to all the courageous Rebel Girls of the World - No mountain is too high if you simply put one foot in front of the other and keep on going, step by step, higher and higher, until you eventually reach the summit, the mountain top, the ultimate peak. Focus on your challenge and complete your mission with all your heart and soul. Believe in yourself and in what you do. Give it your very best.

As a little girl, Junko was small and weak but she enjoyed climbing with all her heart. She loved what she did and she believed in it fervently. Junko Tabei went on to climb the highest peak in over seventy counties. She eventually became the very first woman to climb the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on all seven continents.

I call upon all the women of the world to achieve what their hearts inspire them to do. Believe in your dream and set out to bring it into reality. The sky is the limit! Only you know what you can really do and what you are truly capable of doing. Now, set out to do it. Thank you, Rebel Girls, for giving us this awesome book and countless others like it, all written in the same vein, exclusively designed to inspire women to become achievers and conquer the world.

The story of Junko Tabei's life of a mountaineer is inspiring. It is an engaging and accessible story for young readers. Having a wide variety of literature in my classroom for students to enjoy and learn from is an important aspect when curating text selections, and Rebel Girls' latest would be a wonderful addition.

The Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls is expanding now to historical fiction novels! This one follows Junko Tabei, a girl who no one thinks can climb mountains, but is determined to anyway. I think it's great this series is expanding to short novels so that older elementary and middle grade students can have more content!

Before reading this book, I had never heard of Junko Tabei, which is so sad! She was an incredible woman and this story tells about her life in a clear and exciting way. Kids will be itching to pick up more books to learn about climbing after reading this. The short chapters are accentuated with many beautiful colored pictures so you really feel like you are in the story.

The book follows Junko starting from childhood all the way to her summit of Mount Everest. It includes information about her mindset (put one foot in front of the other), personal life, and challenges she faced along the way as a woman. It inspired me to not only get back into rock climbing but also to pursue my goals, even if they seem a bit lofty. I think many others who read this title will feel the same.
