I had a hard time getting into this book, but once I did, it was a perfectly acceptable follow-up to Twin Crowns. For much of the book, there was nothing absolutely earth-shattering, but nothing that struck me as off-putting either. To be entirely honest, I don't have too much to say about the story, though I will admit that Wren's arc was much more interesting to me than Rose's, though the mirror magic was slightly strange. Thd ending was quite good, though, and I look forward to seeing what happens in the next keg of the story.
Thank you to the Publisher and NetGalley!
I loved Twin Crowns so much and I was so excited for Cursed Crowns and let me tell you that it didn't disappoint.
The stakes are higher than ever in this sequel and I enjoyed every second. We get to see both Wren and Rose grow and we even meet some new characters (one of which I enjoyed more than the other...)
Cursed Crowns finds Wren and Rose trying to figure out how to rule as twin queens in a land that still doesn't fully accept witches. Both of them go on individual journeys which are so fun and needed for their growth.
Plus the romance! The romances from the previous book are still very much there but there are twists thrown in and one sister may even find herself in a bit of a potential love triangle...and I am very much here for it.
We also get to see different parts of the world (Gevra is my new favorite) and I can't wait for more.
These books are basically fun fantasy rom coms and I really can't recommend them enough. They're fun and entertaining, full of romance and fantasy and royalty and basically all the good things you could want in a book.
Rating: 3.5
I really loved Twin Crowns, and I enjoyed this sequel, even though it didn’t quite live up to the first one. There were certain things about the writing style that I was more willing to overlook with the first book, but somehow became more annoying in the second one. I think it was mainly that some of the characters’ decisions seemed too simplistic and unreasonable?
This especially became a problem with Rose’s storyline. Halfway through the book, Shen became an entirely different person, and even though I know Rose has always been an ignorant/selfish character, I don’t think she was really in the wrong to expect Shen to want to fight for the witches who raised him? Why did he immediately trust the extended family members he previously had no memory of? Stuff like that made it kind of a frustrating read.
I liked that this book brought back the switch mechanic though—I was worried that, without the core thing that main the first book work, the second would fall flat, but the mirror scenes did save it for me. I wish it was used more (how does Wren keep having things confiscated?? She needs to invest in pockets or *something*.)
I will definitely be returning for the third book, although I hope the twists in the final (?) installment are a bit more surprising (soooo many clearly untrustworthy adults betraying these kids)
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!
YES! Get book one, and then get book two, grab some snacks and your drink, and get snuggled in for the weekend. My personal opinion? This series is worth taking the weekend to just thoroughly enjoy.
You get sisters, strong femme character rep, magic, romance, fantasy, character development, etc. So much good in this book that it's hard to pinpoint any grievances. Maybe that I felt like I had a couple questions that could have been resolved a bit more? But ultimately, the way things grow throughout this series just wraps everything up so nicely that even saying that feels unnecessarily nitpicky. You can definitely feel the set-up seeds for a future book, but if the series was to end at this one I don't think I would mind aside from the fact that I just loved it so much and want more.
The romance is pretty great, but this series sits firmly on the fence between YA and NA, so consider that when buying for a certain audience. No trigger warnings aside from it might get a bit more spicy(without actual spice) than the YA genre might lead you to think.
Amazing! My aunt bought me the first book in this series right when it was first released in 2022, and immediately knew I would love it. I read the entire thing in a day and was left waiting in suspense for the next book. Let me just say it did not disappoint! When I saw the title on net galley I immediately knew I had to request it and since then it has joined my slim list of 5 star reads and also my list of favorite books ever. Love the authors and their work is amazing! The writing is beautiful and the characters are some of the best ever!
A solid follow-up to the first book in the series, and I'm interested to see the direction of the rest of the series.
Even though I did enjoy it, I personally found it a little less fun than book 1, just because the concept of Twin Crowns was so fun. This one had a lot of subplots (including some... interesting choices in the romance department), and I was really interested in one of them. Wren and Rose are both such fun characters though, so I'll probably keep reading the series because I'm curious what will happen next.
I can’t believe I waited so long to read this book. They did it again with this story. I can’t wait to continue to read what is next. I absolutely need more!
I loved this second installment and the stakes were higher and it felt more dangerous. I love this series and was fully immersed in the world the authors built, caring about the characters and their fate.
Wren and Rose are back and while the stakes are higher then when we previously met them these girls are still serving up all the hilarious antics readers fell in love with in book one.
The book picks up with Rose heading off on an elaborate royal tour while Wren travels north to save her beloved Banba. Adventure, Romance, and politics ensue that will keep readers engaged to the very end.
Much like the first book, Cursed Crown is simply a good time! It offers a likable and relatable cast of characters that drive the story forward. The plot is uncomplicated but engaging making this read worthy of your summer TBR!!
So this one was way too cute for the situation that these sisters were in. As must as I enjoyed book one this one kind of fell short of what I was hoping for. The characters felt like they really didn't do much and the plot never really went anywhere. It was a really bad let down because I loved book one.
I loved this book. I really did not have a hard time remembering what had happened in the first book after I got started, which always helps! I loved that we get to see more of Rose and Shen. I loved that each Rose and Wren had some hard decisions to make and her own adventure to embark on. I loved the ending and the promise of more to come! The audio is fabulous.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my complimentary e-arc of this book. All opinions here are my own.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a lovely return to the series! While we saw a little less of the sisters dynamic (which I absolutely love, such a nice change from the norm of toxic familial relationships) I still deeply enjoyed this book and look forward to the next!
A year later, and we get the sequel of our resident witch-queen sisters who now rule Eana (and have to deal with all the baggage of ruling) and while book 1 left me with a bated breath, waiting to see what would happen next, I finally get to dive into the sequel and all its madness.
So, here we go.
Short Summary: Our resident witch-queen twins must deal with ruling a land while trying to avoid war with their sworn enemies and with a brewing rebellion to eradicate all the witches in Eana (including them)
Long Summary: Wren and Rose now rule the land of Eana together. While Rose embraces her new queendom with her sister, Wren struggles to adjust to her new reality and with her grandmother captured by King Alarik, she sets off on a journey to go save her which lands her on a dangerous deal with the current sovereign who could be treading onto more than what he thought.
With her sister gone, Rose must rule Eana by herself, torn between her sister, her people and the new threat of the Desert sands starting to shift and to kill people along the way. With a growing rebellion to kill all the witches of Eana, Rose must choose what is best for her-- saving her people, her loyalty to her sister or truly being the queen she wants to be.
But can both sisters get what they want without risking their heads?
Like in my last review of Twin Crowns, Wren continues to be my favorite sister who always has the better journey and more stakes included to make us care for her. Rose seems to be a bit more knowledgeable at least after the last book that made me wonder why she existed at all, but in terms of sequels, it was an okay one. Given that it dragged in some parts and sped up in others, it appears to suffer what a lot of sequels go through, with the whole "what actually happens in the middle? *inserts filler content*"I think I've read better sequels, but now we'll have to see how the series wraps up.
Particularly here for Wren and to see how her story wraps up.
Overall: 3.5/5 stars
I am a thirty-year-old adult who loves YA. I love angsty romances filled with adventure and friendships and magic! And I love when my YA fantasies feel true to the genre. That is one of the things I appreciated so much about Twin Crowns when I read it last year, so you can imagine my excitement with the opportunity to read an ARC of its sequel.
Cursed Crowns follows our twin sisters, Rose and Wren, who are now rightfully seated as the rulers of Eana. However, not everyone in their kingdom is receptive to their new rule, or to fully welcome the witches with open arms.
Meanwhile, Wren's primary concern is for her grandmother who was taken to Gevra at the conclusion of Twin Crowns. Wren is presented with an opportunity to get her grandmother back, leaving Rose to handle a restless kingdom.
Cursed Crowns deals with some higher stakes, a little bit of romance, and a surprise enemy on the rise.

I wish I could say I loved Cursed Crowns as much as I did the first book in the series. While, I had a good time reading this sequel overall, there were a few things that wish didn't happen, or had a better execution.
The first thing being the sisters being separated (again) for nearly the entire novel. The relationship between these two sisters is a huge part of this story and I wish we actually got to see them BE sisters and have that relationship grow and develop. They had moments, sure, but I wanted so much more.
Secondly, Shen Lo has become an integral part of this story, he needed his own POV in this book. Learning these things about Shen Lo and the important new role he finds himself in, is too valuable to only be seen through the perspective of Rose.
Thirdly, justice for Tor. After book one, I was a big Tor girlie. But unfortunately, Tor was given nothing to do and was hardly present in this book. It made me very sad.
There were a few other things, too, that I won't nitpick about because even though there were things I didn't enjoy, I didn't regret reading this one. I enjoyed every single time I went to pick it up. Some of the things I disliked might not be as bothersome to another reader, so I 100% still recommend this series and will definitely be picking up the third book when it comes out.

Thank you so much to Net Galley, the authors, and the publisher for providing me with a free copy of “Cursed Crowns (Twin Crows, #2)” by Caroline Doyle and Katherine Webber in exchange for an honest review. All of the following opinions are formulated on my own. Any quotes in this review should be cross-referenced with the final copy for any possible edits.

Favorite quote(s): "Everyone’s a fool for something, Wren. Why not let it be love?”
My review: In Cursed Crowns, we continue to visit the story of Rose and Wren, twin sisters seperated at birth destined for the same crown. I'd market this series as a young adult Zodiac Academy rom com. You'll definitely have a favorite sister in this series and, once again, my favorite was Wren, the sister deined to eusurp the crown from Rose. You get to see more of Wren's fighting herself with a love triangle between Tor and King Alarik. We do get to see the advancement of Rose and Wren's storylines indvidually since they are seperated for most of the book. I'd suggest this if you are looking for a light fantasy palate cleanser!

Ithink this series is going to be one of my all time favourites, Doyle and Webber have such an unbelievable talent with their writing, world building it’s just fantastic and beautiful. I love the multiple POVs they’re so well done and distinct. It’s so easy to lose yourself in this book, it’s full of action , intrigue and you just keep wanting to know what's coming next, I still do and can’t wait for the next book
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I greatly anticipated this follow-up to Katherine Webber's Twin Crowns, and it did not disappoint! Despite their separation at birth, the twin sisters and protagonists, Wren and Rose overcome significant obstacles in their personal relationship to work together towards their common goals. The pacing of the story is exciting and interesting. The main and supporting characters are endearing and enjoyable. The conclusion of this story was highly satisfying and wrapped up nicely. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys YA Fantasy.

This book started off slower than book 1. There is minor character development but the plot was great and kept me turning the pages.
However, just like book 1, I think I may just not have been the targeted audience. It's cute and silly and cheesy at some parts.
This was somehow both lighthearted AND dark but the contrast really worked in it’s favor. Some of it was a little silly in that YA way but I loved it anyway. For whatever reason I was convinced this was a duology but boy was I wrong. What a great sequel with such a dramatic ending I can’t wait to see what’s next for Rose and Wren.
This was SO good! I loved Twin Crowns and was looking forward to the second…and Cursed Crowns did not disappoint. Ms. Doyle has created such well rounded and intriguing characters, and the story itself is wonderful and compelling. I read this in one sitting and am now impatiently awaiting the next book.
