Another hit from Riley Sager!! It was a phenomenal thriller. I highly enjoyed it! I will be recommending this to my mystery book club to read for next month's book.

Riley Sagers writing is addictive. That is truly the only way I can describe it. I fly through his work. These are the books you wanna pick up during a reading slump! I couldn’t put it down!
This book follows Kit, a caregiver to a woman accused of a Lizzie Borden-esque massacre decades earlier. This book sent shivers down my spine. I had goosebumps and considered sleeping with a nightlight after staying up late to finish it.
Imagine Verity by Colleen Hoover, multiplied by 100 and you have ‘The Only One Left’ by Riley Sager. Everybody needs to read this book!!
Thank you to netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Dutton for an e-arc of this book!

The premise of this novel drew me in and the story kept up a good pace, dropping hints continually to keep my interest. Then around two thirds of the way in the suspense really ramped up and the twists and reveals began flying off the pages. I did need to suspend belief, as there were so many incredible secrets tangled up together.
Overall a very entertaining read which has been cleverly written.
I received this arc from netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is my new favorite Riley Sager book!! Thank you so much to the publisher for letting me get my hands on it early. I can’t wait to talk about this book with customers in the future. It will definitely be a recommended book by me simply for the twists and the way it had my heart racing!

Riley Sager has found his groove once again, after two less than memorable books.! This book begins slowly with a lot of setup being put into place, but the last quarter absolutely flies by. I was fully engaged throughout this book, but I did find there to be an absurd number of twists near the end that felt gratuitous and bogged down an otherwise jaw-dropping finish. I enjoyed the gothic setting, and I’m always a fan of a creepy old house. While I’m not sure this will be universally loved, I found it to be a thoroughly entertaining read and one that Sager die-hards will be happy with!

Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this advance copy! I truly devoured this book, telling everyone to leave me alone so that I could read just one more chapter. While this is good for my reading game, it is not good for the last week of grad school.
Make sure you have a day or two to yourself to read this book because it is a real page turner with a little bit of creep factor.

I loved this book, It had me guessing the whole way through! Thanks NetGalley for the ARC! I really enjoyed the ending with really only a few minor things I thought were excessive. Almost like one two many twists. But who am I kidding I love twist books and this one was fantastic. Also the cover of this book is so good.

I am incredibly disappointed in this book. At 49% I am packing it in. This story is not very original, the characters are more like caricatures than real people and the entire thing seems wrapped in cliche and tired tropes. I dont care enough about these people to find out how it all ends and everything is so unbelievable that I just can't seem to bring myself to finish. Yuck.

Oh man. This might be my new favorite Riley Sager book. I kept guessing and wondering the entire time while the twists and turns kept me on my toes. Once again, he delivers!

Another great read by Riley Sager. This author consistently writes books that let you to think there is some kind of supernatural event going on, but in reality there is some crazy but understandable explanation too it all. And every book is a page turner...The Only One Left is no exception to that. I love the picture of the mansion and if the main characters that is painted in your mind. Looking forward to Mr. Sager's next book!

Riley Sager remains a top author if you want a fun, mysterious, enthralling read. He has no doubt done it again with The Only One Left. A story that spans decades, old secrets, familial murder, and even more mystery than one could imagine, it made me want to get out an old fashioned murder board to see if I could piece together all the clues, but I don’t think even Agatha Christie could have seen all the twists that came in the end.

The Only One Left centres around the life of Kit McDeere, a home nurse who is asked to look after a elderly woman Lenora Hope. The only thing wrong with this assignment is that Lenora is a murder suspect accused of murdering her entire family at the age of 17. Now old and with a deteriorating health she lives in her family’s home Hope Mansion on the cliff along with her other caretakers. Will Kit be able to take care of a suspected murderer without getting killed herself or will she uncover the secrets of that deadly night that took place years ago.
My Thoughts:
This was a typical Riley Sager book with suspense, drama and plot twists unimaginable. I liked the entire plot setting with the old mansion, hidden secrets, grumpy people and a lot of tension and a climax unpredictable.
Kit is a character that is so connecting and bold trying to uncover the secrets of the past and Lenora is a total show. I loved all the supporting cast and even though in the middle I was a bit impatient just thinking why everyone can’t just spill out the truth, the entire reading experience was great.
It’s just one book where the cast is minimal and everyone holds their secrets and each person plays a important role to bring the truth hidden.
Just the book everyone needs to bring them out of the reading slump.
Thank you @duttonbooks @netgalley for providing me the arc of the book in exchange of an honest review.

After getting fired from her last caregiver posting, Kit McDeere takes a position at the crumbling Hope’s End with its infamous tenant, Lenora Hope. Accused of killing her entire family in the late 20s but with no evidence to convict her, Lenora has been reduced to near total paralysis and confined to a wheelchair. Kit soon learns that there is more to Lenora than the harrowing town riddle says. From the secretive house staff to the odd untraceable bumps in the night and the mysterious “sudden departure” of the last caregiver, Hope’s End is as unstable as the cliffside edge it sits on. Feeling a need to vindicate her own truths, Kit begins to realize that the lies of Hope’s End travel deeper and further than she thought. Some as far as her front door.
I have been a fan of Riley Sager’s work since the first story that I read. He writes his characters in a way that makes you invested in their story and what happens to them. He also writes bonkers tales that keep you guessing. And let me tell you, I thought I had this figured out and not only was I wrong, but I was wrong wrong wrong. The spiraling of twists just kept on going so I just kept turning to the next page. I finished this in only a few days because I was hooked on the story, the whodunnit of it all, and what kind of resolution there would be. I absolutely recommend it if you like the aforementioned whodunnit, a confused narrator, inconsistent backstories, and a thriller mystery!

Well I’m thrilled to say Riley Sager has found his groove once again, after two less than memorable books. This book begins slowly with a lot of setup being put into place, but the last 30% absolutely flies by until the very last page. I was fully engaged throughout this book, but I did find there to be an absurd number of twists near the end that felt gratuitous and bogged down an otherwise jaw-dropping finish. I did love the gothic setting, and I’m always a fan of a creepy old house. While I’m not sure this will be universally loved, I found it to be a thoroughly entertaining read and one that Sager die-hards will be happy with!

I will read anything by Riley Sager, even if it is his grocery list. So thankful for this ARC, it did not disappoint. The twists kept me guessing to the very end, and each character had more layers than the last. I loved the ending and I cannot wait to re-read it to see what I missed. What's not to love with a gothic setting?

As a fan of Riley Sager who hasn’t quite enjoyed his last few books, I was very pleased to find him back in form with “The Only One Left.” Using the story of Lizzie Borden as inspiration for this one, Sager has placed us in a creepy old gothic house with an aging (alleged) murderess and her caregiver- a girl who may or may not have secrets of her own. Although some elements may not hold up to close scrutiny, I still enjoyed every second of reading it. Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for review.

This book started out okay. The plot seemed interesting enough BUT the last 15% was insane. I'm sure some will say it was too crazy but I thought it was great. I was hooked & could not stop reading. The characters were unlikable & crazy but it made the story so interesting. I think this was a solid thriller & definitely my fav by Riley Sager so far.

Feeling slightly disappointed by his last two novels, the author has pulled me back in with another release.
I really enjoyed the fact that the main character’s background was out in the open as a starting plot point. The narrator comes across as slightly hypocritical when comparing her own personal history with that of her patient. Nonetheless, I found myself compelled by the intertwined similarities of their stories.
In true Sager fashion, we are completely immersed in another time and come to know and appreciate humanity-the good, bad and ugly do to speak.
For those who have sensitivities to medical gaslighting, there is mention of that around 60% into the book where the narrator tries to see if her patient is faking their condition
Overall, I’m very happy with the way this book turned out. I’ll be standing by for the next release

Oh my. Well. That was interesting. Except it wasn’t.
Blech. What a mess.
The problem here is, but for the very nuggets of the core premise, there was nothing about this book that was very interesting or original in any way. And if it had been interesting and unoriginal or original, and not interesting, I would’ve liked it better. But both interest both boring and unoriginal, I don’t think I can overlook that.

This might be my favorite Riley Sager book! The book was full of suspense and at the end the twists just kept coming. Quick read, couldn't put the book down.
