It was ok. The main character was relatable and fun. I would have liked if there was more focus on the side characters since their stories were a bit lacking.
If you enjoy romantic fantasy full of supernatural creatures then this the book for you
Aurora has changed career paths after a traumatic event leaving her with PTSD - surely becoming a social worker for supernaturals will be less risky ............ beware what you wish for , her predecessor was murdered !
The prime suspect in the murder is now her client ............ a client who exudes pure sexiness , one she must resist - not likely .!!!
Who is it lurking in the background , who is it that will do anything to keep their secrets , even kill ........ can Aurora discover just what is going on when all those around her lie ?
This is an entertaining read , I look forward to reading more from the Author in the future

A real melting pot of supernatural creatures, Aurora, a witch stuck for a job after suffering a recent trauma is tasked as a supernatural caretaker. Fae, lycanthropes, witched, wizards all needing to be kept in line in this fun and exciting story. A strong woman, damaged as always by her past experiences, embarks on a new life and new job and we follow her journey. As always the ego's of the men are as enhanced as their bodily attributes and they smoulder and sizzle throughout the story. Tension, Can Rory get to the bottom of the growing tension without becoming yet another casualty of it?
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley while playing a round of Netgalley Request Roulette featuring debut authors. This is my honest review.
I obviously had no idea what to expect from this author as this is her first book, and I was quite pleased with what I got. Rory is a sassy witch who may have a slight problem with authority figures...but that may also only apply when those authority figures are egocentric wizards. The book starts with a pretty traumatic event that leads Rory to changing jobs, and throughout the book it's obvious that she's still dealing with PTSD from that event. But she works hard to not let that event color her views of others she encounters, no matter how much they may remind her of her past trauma.
The story is told entirely through Rory's eyes, which gives it a great air of mystery as she tries to solve the murder of her predecessor (out of necessity, really, because her life could also be in danger now) while also figuring out how to do her job as a Caretaker without completely pissing off the wizard in charge who is rather incompetent. There were twists and reveals that I did not pick up on until Rory had mentioned them as possibilities, and I'm usually pretty good at seeing those kinds of things coming from a mile away.
I definitely wanted to keep reading to see what would happen next, and where things would go between Rory and Beo. I'd love to see more from Lilith, or at least more of Lilith, but a book from her perspective I think could be pretty awesome. This is an author I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for.
Overall I give this book 4.13 out of 5 stars.
Foul is Fair by Elisse Hay, a good premise but simply not for me. I do think others will enjoy the book, and thank you for giving me a chance with this book.
Foul and Fair
4 Stars
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the cast of crazy characters: witches, wizards, fae, and lycanthropes.
Not going to lie, the pace was a little off for me. I'm not good at patience, and this book starts out slowly. Our main character stands out due to her intelligence, protectiveness, and ability to kick-ass. I love that her love interest matches her, and isn't an insta-love situation.
Overall, a great start to the series. I look forward to book 2. Thank you, NetGalley and City Owl Press, for an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Wow. This is a great urban fantasy with a set of characters I need more of. There is the kick-ass woman with secrets, a murder investigation, some love interests, and magic and twists galore. But this book also gave me more than the typical - there was queer representation, complicated moral decisions, and heartfelt characters all run through with inclusive feminism and a fascinating magic world.
I do wish there had been a bit more world building since I am still a little vague on some of the magic, but it didn't detract from any of the story elements so it didn't make a huge impact on my reading/understanding.
I really hope to see more books in this series. I think there is a lot of potential here, it reminds me a lot of Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series.
Foul is Fair is the first in the Something Wicked series. Aurora is a witch who protects supernatural citizens. Makes sure they’re staying on the right side of the law. She takes a new job after a devastating loss in her old one. I like the characters and I like the uniqueness of the storyline. Can I understand it? Most of the time, nope. Took me about half the book to sort of get it. I would like to see where Aurora goes next and hope it’s less confusing!

Rory lost someone she loves and cannot longer work in retrievals (PNR police), she still want to help though. She decides to become a caretaker (PNR Social services) but the case she is assigned to might just need her as a retrieval as well.
This was an interesting read, not connect fully at the beginning! Rory feels like a closed person willing to help but not to forgive herself for her past mistakes. I loved how she is all in to do her job even if she had to turn a blind eye or bend the rules!
Beo in the other side, I wish we could've know him better. Weber some things but a bit superficial.
Not fully sold on future books of the series... We'll see!

Smooth reading fantasy. This stand alone but start of a series is my kind of entertainment. Witches, wizards, supernaturals, some possible love complications, and a murder mystery as well as a strong female lead. Aurora, a talented witch has been trying to keep people safe by bagging the bad guys but things went terribly wrong. Now she wants a change of pace and something less dangerous. But being a supernatural social worker might turn out to be even more dangerous as she juggles male ego’s, her own need for love and the fact the colleague she has taken over from was murdered.
