I thought the premise was very interesting but the book itself was very confusing for me. I was just lost most of the time. I’m sure that there will be others who like it more
Many thanks to Pacific Hilltop Media and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
“You both make this so complicated,” Ian interrupts. Aurora is surprised at the coldness in his voice. “You talk about veils and lights and heavenly worlds, but it boils down to sin and redemption. That’s all. We’re sinners. We need propitiation for our sins. We need the power of sanctification.”
The line quoted above is the most clear headed statement in the entire book. Ian Preston is having dreams about the spiritual world that are starting to become reality. Fantastic premise, unfortunately this book missed the mark. The descriptions of the spiritual goings on were very confusing, I couldn’t visualize them. There were too many characters in the spiritual realm. It was just too complicated, as Ian points out.
The story line with Ian and Aurora and Cletus in the real world was mostly enjoyable. I liked how their stories came to intersect. Having said that, Ian was not believable as a former pastor or even a believer, he did very immoral things without even thinking twice.
This premise and plot has potential, the book itself needs work.
