It’s okay. Pretty standard devotional that hammers in the same ideas that churches have been teaching girls for decades.
I liked the practical advice in being alert to not only what you want, but what you need. Helps young ones put into perspective such a big decision and how this choice makes or breaks your future.
Recommend.
My teenage daughter read this title daily for a month. She found the content to be helpful and would recommend it to other girls her age. She enjoyed the questions at the end of the chapter and felt that they caused her to think in ways she previously had not. The reason for the four star review is that she found some of the information to be unrelatable to her specifically.
Thank you to NetGalley and WaterBrook&Multnomah for the chance to read this book ahead of its release date!
This book has a lot of potential (and the cover work is gorgeous!). I must confess that I didn’t make it very far into the book before I realized that it was not the book for me. I appreciated the short devotions and a prayer at the end (at times it gave a journal prompt) to make things easy to understand and apply. I unfortunately am not comfortable with encouraging someone to think of God as a substitute for a husband and romantic love.
This book was not what I was expecting at all, but it was good for what it was meant to be. It was extremely short and was much more personal to the authors experiences. In more ways than one, it was more of essays about their own bad experiences with love.
I have really enjoyed this devotional. I have read books from Robin and Tricia before and I admire the way that the speak in a down to earth style to young women. Women of our culture need guidance and direction when ur comes to choosing our husband. The daily format allows the reader to prayerfully consider what’s being what’s read and hopefully bring fruit from the book.
It is similar to "Praying for your future husband". It's more of a devotional, it's condensed but with added prayers and it should be helpful to young women.
What I read: Before You Meet Your Future Husband by Robin Jones Gunn & Tricia Goyer
Why I picked it up: I liked the cover and title when I saw it on the available books on NetGalley. I received this free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
How I read it: On e-galley in three sittings – it’s designed as a 30 day devotional in three sections, so I read one section each day.
What it’s about: It’s written for young women (I’d say 15 to 23, maybe) who are single and desire to be married but haven’t met their husband yet. The three sections are heart, head, and hands – focusing on prayer, thoughts, and actions. Each day is a short reflection by one of the authors, space to journal with a particular question or prompt, and a prayer. There’s also a discussion guide in the back if you were going to meet in a small group while reading the book.
What I liked: There’s a lot of great advice in this book. I would recommend it for young women under 25, maybe under 30 who are just beginning their walk with the Lord.
What I disliked: It’s just not for women in their late 30s who are still waiting for a spouse. The advice is sound; but it’s less comforting now than when I was younger. It wasn’t designed for me either, so it’s not like it’s suggesting that late 30s single ladies are our audience and then not delivering.
Genre: Spiritual reading, memoir, singleness.
Rating & Recommendation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and if you’re a young woman desiring a holy marriage or if you know a young women like that, it would be a good read. It releases on May 2nd.
I read and loved Praying For Your Future Husband by Robin Jones Gunn and Tricia Goyer a few years ago so I was excited to see that these authors had written another book similar to that one! This book is great for young woman who want to be intentional when it comes to waiting and praying for their future husband or their future in general. The authors’ share their own experiences on the topic with honesty and heartfelt advice. Inside you will find questions and prayers that would make great journal prompts if you want to dive a bit deeper. I really enjoyed this one and think it would be wonderful for teen girls and up!
