This is a nice book to gift for Valentines Day. It is the alphabet all dealing with different things associated with love. From A to Z they have the alphabet and words connected. The pictures are very vivid and appealing to children. I think this book is more geared to 2 to 4 age group. Maybe for beginner readers also.
This is a simple alphabet with the premise “love is”. There is nothing surprising and it has been done before. However, that will not keep this from being a beloved board book by those who find it in a crowded field.
Loved this book ❤️ Each letter of the alphabet is paired with a concept of love, acceptance, affection, values, and warmth. The illustrations are beautiful and embrace diversity. It’s also told in rhyme! Very sweet ❤️
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Very cute artwork in this book! i have read a couple of these books and they are always super cute! 5 star kid book.
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
There was really no unifying theme to this, and some of the things listed as love felt like a bit of a stretch to me, but that should've indicated for me that this was a board book (as I'd forgotten that point before I started reading it). It was a different way to go through the alphabet and introduce some new words than I've encountered before though (which should have also given me some clue that this was a board book).
The illustrations were bright and colorful and definitely eye catching, which is important in board books. I liked the way the letters seemed pieced together. I don't think I'd want to read this book often as it had no flow or anything, but the brevity wouldn't make it too awful to read a few times. Overall I give it 3.21 out of 5 stars.
As odd as it may sound, there are ABC books for different age ranges. This certainly feels for those who know their way around the alphabet, for it's the other concern of the book that's to the fore – teaching about love and acceptance and so on. For all of the 26 pages we get part of a rhymed text telling us about love, proving that we're surrounded by it and more than able to dole it out. The illustrations show it in action, from feeding a beloved pet, to welcoming a wheelchair user into class, to clambering into a parental lap and being happy. A very warm-hearted achievement, then – four and a half stars.
Love love love this book and its messages! How many ways can you show love. The illustrations are amazing and this would really spur a wonderful conversation on the 5 love languages and more!
"Love is to kiss you goodnight
Love is to leave on a light"
Take a very sweet trip through the alphabet as the reader and pint-sized listener explore all the wonderful things that love can be. The rhyming text is good, and would be a delight to read aloud. And, I LOVED the author's cheery illustrations.
This one's a lovable winner.
This book was good. It wasn't my favourite ABC book, but it was still a nice concept. I do believe it could have been more inclusive, considering it's about love and mentions teaching acceptance. I was hoping to see more than just one person in a wheelchair, one child with glasses. I would have loved to see people who have hearing aids or use sign language or other methods to communicate, LGBTQ+ families included. If we're going to advertise teaching love and acceptance, then you really need to remember all of those that are underrepresented.
Other than that, it was a basic children's ABC book. Most of the sentences that went along with the letters made sense, some didn't as much. The illustrations were great, bright and beautiful and very entertaining for young ones.
My daughter and I really enjoyed this children's book, which is an ABC board book all about love, acceptance and affection, taught using the letters of the alphabet.
The book is brightly coloured, with beautiful images and easy to read text, which all babies, toddlers and young children will love and adore.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
A wonderful entry into the crowded ABC book genre! Vibrant illustrations accompany depictions of love and kindness. This would be an excellent book for preschool aged children to introduce them to a number of concepts about being a good friend and family member.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a huge fan of ABC books. I think they are a great addition to any classroom, center, or children’s library. The alphabet is an essential skill and it’s so easy to take a book like this and extend it. Here are a couple of ideas.
1. If you’ve got a small group of kids, give each kid a couple of letters of the alphabet. Use something you already have like magnet tiles. When you read a page, the child has the corresponding letter and can hold it up. Instant engagement.
2. Get a big piece of butcher paper and draw block letters on it. After reading the book, the kids can work together to decorate their own alphabet that they can hang in the classroom.
3. Search on YouTube for an ABC video that’s got some motor actions. Get kids up and moving to make the whole story time even more fun.
4. This book covers ways to show people love. If appropriate for your class, try having a discussion on ways that they could show love to somebody in their family or their friend.
A very sweet rhyming ABC book celebrating love. This is really nice because it explains love to kids in all kinds of forms--feelings, actions, memories, etc. It could spark a nice discussion about all the different ways we can share and express love. The hand-drawn style illustrations are colorful and reflect people of all sorts, from all walks of life so lots of kids can see themselves on the page. This would be a lovely classroom or home read to celebrate love!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Thank you, Quarto Publishing Group, Christiane Engel, and Netgalley for an ARC of this book.
My kids enjoyed reading this and seeing all the examples of how we show love to eachother.
What a great addition for a valentines shelf. The colors and illustrations are so vibrant and beautiful.
If you have older kids, I think it would be fun to act out the letters of the alphabet each day to show acts of love.
This story follows the ABCs, and it provides children with the vocabulary to discuss ways to show love or what love is. At the end, many characters are depicted once again along with the main words shown with the alphabet. I feel like these pages would make a great poster to hang and continue discussing. There are so many ways to show love, and this story would be a great starting point to discuss this with children!
We loved the colors and illustrations. This was a cute, quick read. Thank you NetGalley for the early access.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the earc.
Loved all the illustrations and how the words were connected to the simple sentences. This makes for good reading practices for beginner readers as well since they are short sentences and has appropriate artwork.
Good work on the book.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for a honest review.
This is wonderfully written and the illustrations are adorable. It’s a great alternative to traditional ABC books out there.
Some words are a bit of a stretch but I can let that slide for the uplifting messages it sends to little ones.
I really like good words, because good words have a lot of positive impacts. I'm sure this book will also give that to the children who read it, teaching them about love through 26 words. I also really like the illustrations in this book which are unique and beautiful.
