The Witch Hitch
Elizabeth Bass

Elizabeth Bass is a multi-published author. She is also published under the pen names, Liz Freeland and Liz Ireland.

Bailey Tomlin is getting married. She is planning her wedding to her boyfriend Wes Haverman. Bailey is a witch with a secret. Adopted by loving magically restricted parents she works at her father’s former insurance agency. She lives a very normal life filled with friends, family, and her new love Wes and his rich overbearing family. Well, that is until unexpected things begin to happen, seeing a strangely familiar woman everywhere, talking to her pet parrot, and fighting a magical cousin. Even meeting a time traveler! Will Bailey sort out her life, love, and parentage?!

I had not read A Letter to Three Witches which is the predecessor to this book. I recommend that you read that before this. This book was very drama-filled and angsty. I was looking for romance and laughter, maybe a triangle?! But that just wasn’t there. I only had characters that left me bewildered by their actions more often than not, a villain everyone knew and too many questioning moments. If you are a new reader who is looking for a book filled with magic, romance, and at least a spark of “mystery”. This book may not be for you. If you want something that feels disturbingly like a bad soap opera filled with pettiness, backstabbing, and cheating. This book may be for you. I did not enjoy it. I do though know a few soap watchers that I will be recommending the book. 2.5**

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC.

Rounded up from 2.5

Bailey is an all round normal women in the last few weeks of wedding prep who seems to be wandering aimlessly through all aspects of her life. Working at a stable job at her father’s insurance company and engaged to a typical upper-class man( Wes) whose family, especially his mother Joan are oozing with snobbery. That is until she runs into an eerily familiar, looking woman whilst wedding dress shopping who turns her life upside down.

From the beginning, I could tell that Bailey needed empowering. She chose stability in everything on the heels of advice from her deceased father, and it was clear she wasn’t living her happiest life.

I found the story to be quite slow paced and light on the romantic aspect. I think this could’ve been explored more. I loved Bailey and Seton as a couple before it even came to be, such a gentleman and they are the definition of star-crossed time-crossed lovers.

There were moments that made me chuckle (I love a good talking animal and Django the parrot was no exception).

I hated Wes is a character, but I believe this is the authors intention. He was so bland and had no depth, typical privileged white male! Madeline, who is a jilted, hopelessly, annoying, ex-girlfriend, angered me so much, and I think she was written really well. Her outrageousness of worming her way in every part of the wedding made me so angry in a good way Whilst it wasn’t explicitly said at the end of the book, I do hope that her and Wes did not end up together.

I felt like some aspects of the story were not delved into enough and seemed rushed in parts. I would have liked to have more context and development on Odin, he was only there for a brief part at the end.
There was no real explanation as to why Tannith was evil and her defeat was so quick it didn’t feel like it was needed in the story. I think Baileys discovery of her witch family and her time with Seton was enough of a story on its own. Nevertheless I liked the twist of Tannith ‘possessing’ Wes at the wedding!

Overall it was generally an easy and light read and I did enjoy the relationship development between Bailey and Seton and also her witch ‘coven’. Who doesn’t love a happy ending!

I know this is the second book in the series so I may be missing some important information or background on the witches but it reads like it could be a standalone.

I thought this was a cute book. Not a lot of depth, but a cute, witchy book. This is the second in a series and I really recommend reading the first one before this one. I have NOT read the first one and felt a bit lost. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Bailey’s story. It’s a pleasant beach read. Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

The Witch Hitch centers on Bailey Tomlin, insurance sales person, as she gears up to marry grocery extraordinaire, Wes. However, now that the wedding is rapidly approaching, strange things keep happening including meeting her birth mother Esme, helping Seton, a man out of time, and bizarre accidents. Can Bailey get everything back to right in time to walk down the aisle?

The Witch Hitch is a quirky, fun read. Bass has definitely made improvements since the first cupcake coven book. Focusing primarily on Bailey and her issues helped prevent the plot from getting muddled like the first book. However, I loved getting to see the members of the cupcake coven popping up throughout The Witch Hitch. Bailey for the most part was a very relatable character: stuck in a rut at work, trying to balance friends and family, struggling with maintaining her own identity when marrying into a prominent family. The part of the story that focused on Bailey as she came to terms with being a witch was well done. However, as a romance novel, the storyline between Bailey and Seton fell flat. All in all, this was a fun, quick read, and I would still be interested in pursuing the series should further books be released.

Overall rating - 3.5⭐️

Thanks to publisher and netgalley for arc!
This was a cute witchy romance love square. I would have enjoyed it more if the wedding and Wes didn't drag until very end when Seton was obviously wayyyy better for her smh. Also it was pretty cold how she left Wes even after the witchcraft mess that predated it. Also Wes' family was legit nightmares and I would have dumped him before the wedding planning began!! How they insisted on having his ex who was trying to get him back so obviously be a part of everything and still be so close to the family was mindboggling!!!!

I loved Seton and her and would have much preferred an entire book for them and their story and no love triangle square mess.

Bailey Tomlin is getting married. Fiance Wes Haverman's family is a big deal in Rochester, New York and their wedding is therefore also a big deal, at least to her future mother-in-law and close relations. While searching for her perfect dress Bailey meets up with a woman from Zenobia who offers to make her the gown of her dreams. If only it had remained as simple as that!

When strange things begin to happen to Bailey and those around her the perfect dress becomes the least of her worries especially when she runs into a visitor whose heart is firmly fixed in the past, finally locates her birth mother, and learns her mom is looking to her future as well.

The second of Elizabeth Bass's Cupcake Coven Romance books is a fun, easy read and continues on from the scene setting first book. This time Bailey Tomlin takes centre stage after reluctantly discovering her inner witch! An enjoyable read, I hope there will be more to come from this likeable and original series.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I enjoyed this very much.

I need to preface this with I didn't realise it was book two on a series so maybe some of the back story is obviously missing for me.

I didn't connect with any character in the book. They seemed one dimensional and I really didn't care for any of them. The continuous narrative of "I'm an insurance salesperson, I don't take chances" wore thin after a while and I didn't really understand why the antagonist took against Bailey, the protagonist. As for the love stories? They were blah and honestly even with magic involved, the meet cute was convoluted.

Maybe if I'd read book one I'd have enjoyed it more but it's 2.5stars rounded up to 3 from me.

I was excited for this one but unfortunately the romance just didn’t do it for me. Emotional cheating is cheating and I don’t like reading about it. It just wasn’t for me. But I can see others enjoying it.

What worked for me, the cozy magic read, the talking parrot, who stole the show for me! Bailey finding her true family ties.

This book was a struggle for me, for one the cheating, and the excuses made to make it "ok". The felt the story was a bit disjointed in parts lacking information that would help it be believable.

Let’s start with what I liked. The magical parts of this book was cool: Bailey realizing that she has powers, her witch-y relatives, and her talking parrot were wonderful and interesting parts.

Sadly the romance just wasn’t for me. First, it comes a bit too short for me. Seton was an interesting character and they had some nice moments together but he disappeared for chunks of the story, only to show back up again with both of them randomly having developed feelings. Second, Bailey’s pre-existing engagement was boring. There was no connection between her and Wes that would’ve convinced me that they had a semi-successful relationship prior to this story, much less one that resulted in an engagement. Thirdly, I’d personally count emotional cheating as ‘proper’ cheating so them not only doing that but Bailey also twisting herself into a pretzel pretending that kissing also isn’t cheating wasn’t the tension filled plot point it was supposed to be. Just break up with the fiancé, girl, you don’t even seem to like him all that much anyways.

Singlehandedly had me questioning whether i like witch trope or is it just this book that doesn't do it for me.
Answer.... it's this book.

A very fun interesting book. I loved how witches entered the story. Lots of twists and turns. It was hard to put down.

I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I had an insanely hard time getting through this book. It felt like nothing happened until over halfway through. I kind of wish I allowed myself to DNF books because I should have allowed myself to stop reading this. (I was so happy it was over)

If you're looking for a book with romance in it, there is little to no romance in this. The main interest and the "love interest" are barely together and have really developed no relationship at all.

Bailey has an identity crisis right before her wedding. An "Oh.My.God. I don't believe in witchcraft. I can't possibly be a witch!" kind of crisis. With that in mind, the story takes off in a frequently laugh-out-loud sort of way. The Witch Hitch is a light-hearted, fun, easy read I enjoyed and recommend.

Bailey is preparing for her wedding and things start to fall apart. It was challenging to feel sorry for Bailey because she didn’t really seem that interested in the wedding or Wes, her fiancé. Readers didn’t really get to know Wes well. There just wasn’t a connection. It would be easy to think his family was awful but honestly Bailey’s behavior was beyond frustrating. She learns more about her heritage and meets a man from another time period. While she is attracted to him, the relationship just seems so unequal that it wasn’t probable for me. I think if it had just been about Bailey’s discovery of her witchiness, it would have drawn me in more.

This book was really fun to read. Yes, there were a few gaping plot holes with the Bailey/Wes relationship and it was pretty predictable how the love story would end. The magic part of the book was super entertaining and creative, so that more than made up for it. If you enjoy easy witchy rom/coms with a lot of random mayhem and talking animals, definitely check this one out! Thank you NetGalley and publishers for the ARC!

I was engaged by the first half of The Witch Hitch. The story opens as Bailey is preparing for her wedding in 3 weeks. Along with ambivalence and some jitters, she also begins to experience other more curious symptoms, including electric pulses, and to encounter an older woman who resembles her strikingly. In the process of tracking this person - who turns out to be her birth mother - down, Bailey meets up with Seton, a time traveler from 1930, and learns that she is a witch.

As the story progresses, many additional plotlines are introduced:
- a supernatural threat to Bailey
- Bailey's adoptive mother's attempts to begin dating
- Bailey's boss' back-story

As Bailey begins to question whether she's ready to move forward with the wedding, she becomes more fascinated by Seton. Other than an immediate physical attraction, you don't really get to know Seton and to understand why he and Bailey are so drawn to each other.

I think the book would have been more cohesive if the author had concentrated on the primary relationships in the book - those between Bailey and Esme, her birth mother and between Bailey and Seton. The additional plotlines were distracting and didn't really add to our understanding of the characters.

Thanks to the author and to Kensington Books for an advance copy. This is an honest review.

I loved A Letter to Three Witches and was so excited to have another story with these characters. It was also so great to expand the universe a little with the introduction of Bailey. I liked Bailey a lot and enjoyed watching her accept being a witch and bond with her cousins. It was clear that she was going to end up with Seton but the journey in getting there was very enjoyable. Wes wasn't a bad guy, but his family was awful and the fact that he continued to allow his ex to hang around and was fine with her being involved in the wedding made it clear he was definitely not the person for Bailey. That guy either needs to tell Madeline that there will never be anything between them or just get back together with her - it was clear he will never have a successful relationship with any woman if she is still hanging around. And that was why it was totally okay that the wedding didn't happen. The continuing problem of Tannith provided the push Bailey needed in order to embrace her witch side. I am very much looking forward to the next book to see what craziness the future has in store for these witches.

Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for an ARC of this book.

I found it incredibly difficult to get into this book - normally I just fall into the fantasy/mystical romance books, but this one was hard.

There was too much going on and somehow at the same time the plot dragged and I would get bored.
I couldn't connect with any of the characters and felt them silly at times.

I did however like how our main character (Bailey) came into her powers and discovered a whole different side to herself.

I think a little more time could have been spent on the plot and character development.

Sadly, the book just wasn't for me - not an instant love or "must-read" for me.
