I absolutely loved The Dead Romantics when I read it in 2022 and Ashley did it again 👏
The Seven Year Slip is full of heart and emotion and dusted with magic and it takes right person, wrong time to the next level. Iwan (MMC) was the sweetest, cutest, lil chef bby and I absolutely adored him. I felt for Clementine (FMC) and her journey through grief to happiness. Though emotional and a bit heavy at times, this book packs a lot of humor and feel good moments. I absolutely love Ashley’s writing and can’t wait to read more from her!! My one qualm with this book is that the magic/time slipping aspect was a bit confusing at times. Overall, a solid romance and def recommend!

I am not normally a fan of any type of time travel, but this unique book won my heart. So clever and so very charming. I rarely reread books anymore, but I can definitely see reading this again in my future.
Have you ever taken a moment to reflect on who you were and how you became who you are. What would you tell that former self? In addition to falling in love with the couple, I found myself pondering life.
Clementine is so set in her ways and I loved how this strange man in her kitchen got her to rethink her choices. The characters were loveable. I do wish I could have known Clementine’s Aunt. She had such a great perspective on life.
Such an inventive use of time. Is it magic or paranormal? I didn’t care. Between the writing, the characters and the magic, I loved this book. Trust me when I say you need to read this book!
I pretty much read this book in one sitting and absolutely loved it. This is so much more than just a romance novel. I won’t say too much as to step into spoiler territory but there are so many layers to this story that my brain is still processing it days later. I will now be going to check out more of Ashley Poston’s writing as her style was both easy to read but so beautiful. 4.5 rounded up!
Ashley Poston’s books are about grief — but I wouldn’t call them sad. This a romance that is ultimately heartwarming.
I was a big fan of Poston’s debut “The Dead Romantics” and couldn’t wait to revisit her particular brand of magical realism. In “The Seven Year Slip,” a book publicist falls in love with her temporary roommate — only to discover he lives seven years in the past, thanks to a time-traveling apartment.
I love everything about the way Poston spins a tale, from the characters she creates to the romance plot to the overall pacing. Her magical realism feels very, well, real — like maaaaybe this is a scenario that could happen? I just can’t say enough good things about her books, and if you’re looking for a romance with themes of grief and resilience, this is the book for you.
This is both for lovers of The Lake House (with Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock) and who also have been crushing on Jeremy Allen White since The Bear. Ashley Poston has such beautifully enchanting prose and wholesome storytelling that's still funny and interesting.
Clementine is reeling from the death of her beloved aunt and more than a little burnt out in her publishing job. To protect her heart from any more hurt, she's isolating herself. Her friends try to coax her out of her apartment that was left to her by her great aunt. The apartment is her solace and brings her comfort....until a strange man with a Southern drawl appears in her kitchen. Throw in the fact that he's living in the past...7 years in the past to be exact....and Clementine doesn't know what to do with herself. This is the type of man that she could definitely fall for, but will she let herself? And will the universe find a way to bridge the 7 years? Ashley Poston writes such a sweet and fun and magical story that will have you be cheering for Clementine the whole time and hoping for the best for her.
This book was SO darling and has solidified Ashley Poston as an auto-buy author for me. I really love when romance novels focus on the main character as an individual and within the romance. Clementine was such a complex character to read about and I found myself not only rooting for her but smiling and crying alongside her. The romance in this book was also SO SO SO sweet! I cannot wait to read what Poston writes next!
"...Never forget to fall in love whenever you find it because love is nothing if not a matter of timing..."
All the magical tales Clementine's aunt told her about the apartment are true: time, romance, and magic exist differently in her New York City loft. When Clementine inherits her late aunt's apartment, she finds herself sharing it with Iwan, a young chef looking to rise ranks in the restaurant business. There's only one problem: Iwan lives seven years in the past, and Clementine can only see him when her apartment lets her. As the two become fast friends and develop feelings for each other, Clementine seeks Iwan in her time, only to discover that the Iwan of the present isn't the same man she fell in love with. Love is a matter of timing, and Clementine may be seven years too late.
This is a beautiful story of grief, growth, resilience, and self-actualization. I absolutely adored Clementine and Iwan as a couple, both seven years in the past and in the present, and loved the nickname Lemon, especially when it came to Iwan's lemon pie. I want Ashley Poston to release a cookbook of Iwan's creations!
I laughed, I sobbed, and I fell in love seven times over. The Seven Year Slip is a must read for any romance, contemporary, or magical readers!
I'm typically not the biggest fan of time shenanigans, so it means a lot when I say that I very much enjoyed The Seven Year Slip by @heyashposton. This charming and clever romance stars Clementine, a book publicist living in her beloved aunt's NYC apartment. Her aunt always said that the apartment was magic, so when Clementine walks into the place and finds a young wannabe chef living seven years in the past, Clem gets it. She doesn't plan to fall for him, but time - both past and present - has a way of changing things. Much like The Dead Romantics, The Seven Year Slip covers a few serious topics, but takes good care of the characters' feelings.
I would love to interview Ashley on my podcast, Raise Your Words. The seven year slip is such a good book!! Ashley’s books are always a good time and I can’t wait for the next one.
In "The Seven Year Slip" by Ashley Poston, readers are taken on a captivating journey where the worst day of one's life becomes the catalyst for a new and unexpected existence. Clementine, the protagonist, finds herself faced with the daunting task of rebuilding her life after a devastating event. Determined to protect her heart, she devises a plan: work hard, find a decent partner, and hold on to her big dream of chasing the moon. Poston expertly weaves together a tale of love, loss, and the intricate dance between past and present. One of the outstanding aspects of this novel is Clementine's metaphorical pursuit of the moon. Inspired by her aunt's wise words, she believes that holding onto a big dream is essential to keep moving forward. Poston's portrayal of Clementine's determination to find happiness despite her reservations is both relatable and inspiring. The author effectively highlights the internal struggle Clementine faces when it comes to allowing herself to love again. Readers will find themselves rooting for her as she navigates the complexities of her circumstances. The introduction of a mysterious man into Clementine's life adds an intriguing layer to the plot. With his kind eyes, Southern drawl, and fondness for lemon pies, he embodies the type of person she would have fallen for in the past. However, their connection is far from ordinary, as he belongs to a time seven years prior. Poston skillfully explores the concept of time and its fluidity within the confines of Clementine's late aunt's apartment. The blending of moments like watercolors creates an ethereal atmosphere, leaving readers captivated and eager to uncover the fate of this unconventional relationship. As Clementine wrestles with the dilemma of falling in love with someone from the past, the author delves into the idea that love transcends time. Poston beautifully portrays the notion that love is not bound by temporal constraints, but rather by the alignment of circumstances. The intricate dance between love and timing is expertly explored, keeping readers engrossed in the story until the very end. "The Seven Year Slip" is a compelling novel that immerses readers in a unique blend of romance, time travel, and self-discovery. Poston's vivid descriptions and well-developed characters bring the story to life, provoking both contemplation and emotional connection. This book serves as a reminder that love is not dictated by time, but by the choices we make and the moments we embrace. Ashley Poston's skillful storytelling will leave readers yearning for their own moon to chase, and pondering the delicate balance between love and timing.

MY THOUGHTS
Another SUPER buzzy bookstagram darling! Everyone I know & love & trust has read this book so I knew I had to.
It has so many elements that i LOVE in a book — a romance, magical realism/time travel, humor, books about books/publishing, deeper themes entwined into the story (grief/loss, following your dreams, family, love). Truly for me this book had so much potential. I enjoyed the characters. The story was fun and whimsical and light.
I think the book kinda lost me about halfway through. I found it to be really confusing. Maybe this was because I listened on audio? I felt like the execution of the time travel / magical realism could have been clearer. I felt like I got confused, and then never really stopped being confused. By the ending I had no idea what was going on. It’s hard to love a book when the plot is what is confusing😂 otherwise I genuinely did enjoy it! I just think parts of the execution could have been a little less clunky and it would’ve been a knockout for me.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick.
ashley poston is a force to be reckoned with!! her writing is absolutely insane in the best way and this was no surprise to be another favorite of mine!
I thought this book was so well written. I previously enjoyed the Dead Romantics, so I was very excited to receive this ARC. The plot was great, the magical realism was just the right amount and I loved the relationship that was portrayed. Poston does a great job tying up her stories in a non cheesy way and I look forward to her future books.
I am on a tear with five star reads and this is a very worthy addition.
After loving The Dead Romantics last year, I have no idea why I waited so long to read The Seven Year Slip but I'm so glad I snuck it in during 2023 because it's easily a new favorite. Ashley Poston incorporates a little bit of magic with a touching romance as well as some real life issues like grief, self doubt, and overall dealing with growing older. I felt I could really relate to Clementine as she tries to move forward and figure out her life after the loss of her aunt. I loved the relationship between her and Iwan as she tries to navigate it both 7 years ago and in the present. This is simply a perfect book, especially for me. This solidifies Ashley Poston as an auto buy author for me!
I really enjoyed the magical realism aspect of this book- it added an extra layer to the story without going over the top and I thought the premise of it was really interesting. However, I don't think that the execution of it fully lived up to my expectations. I wish that the romance between the two of them had been fleshed out a bit more, I just wasn't able to fully connect with them. Also, I get it, he has gray eyes. Didn't need to be reminded of that on every single page.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an advanced copy of The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston.
Love this author, the way she writes about weaving grief and losing into everyday living is heartbreaking in the best way. The couple definitely had chemistry, even if it was a little too instant-romance for me but the ending was sweet.
I almost let this book slip (pun sort of intended) through the cracks. I am so happy that I read it. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. "The Seven Year Slip" may be one of my favorite books of the year. I should add that I am huge fan of time warp/time travel stories (e.g. think Outlander, Sliding Doors, Chronicles of Narnia). While the book's primary relationship is between Clementine, a publicist for a travel book publisher, and Iwan, a chef; there are other equally important relationships that are woven throughout Clementine's life. Just when you think you have the book and its twists figured out, there is another twist that makes you fall even more in love with this book. I don't want to discuss too much of the plot because I don't want to accidentally give away anything. It is rare that I want to re-read a book immediately after finishing one, but all I want to do right now is grab a blanket, a glass of wine or mug of cocoa, and curl back up on my couch with this book. So instead I am writing this review to tell everyone that you need to read "The Seven Year Slip."
