This was such a sweet romance, with a quirky time travel twist, and fun supportive side characters.
Loved it.
This was such a fun book with a romance I was rooting for hard from the beginning. I wish we had a few more instances of the "slip" scenes themselves because it's the unique and intriguing thing about the story and it would build into the romance a bit more. This book was so emotional with themes of loss, finding yourself, changing and trying to figure out your passions, and I really enjoyed all these pieces and how they fit together. There was no 3rd act break up (woooo) but more of a complex and ever evolving relationship which was much more interesting. This author writes with a lot of passion for both her story and her characters and it really shines through. Also it made me very hungry!
This was my first Ashley Poston romance, so now I have to go pick up her first one since I really enjoyed this! I loved the NYC vibes and the slightly speculative twist—and after watching The Bear, I'm super into chef love interests!
I had heard great things about Ashley's other novel The Dead Romantics (on my list to read as well), but this one truly caught my eye. I am a sucker for time travelling stories and I know they are very hard to accomplish but this one was very cute and done really well. Ashley sucked me right in, and I loved that her MC works in publishing it makes the book that much more fun. There is a cute little twist to the story, that I didn't fully see but yet wasn't completely surprised by either. Definitely a cute, fun read and I can't wait to go back and read The Dead Romantics after this.
This was the sweetest story! I was drawn in instantly to the plot & felt that magical pull right away. I was able to picture everything so well with @heyashposton rich description & enjoyed every minute!
I couldn’t put this down & it gave all the feels. I loved the supporting characters too. I knew pretty early on this would be a 5 ⭐️ read for me.
This is my first novel by Poston & I cannot wait to read THE DEAD ROMANTICS!
I haven't read many time slip romances so I was hesitant about being able to suspend belief, but the second I started reading, I was reminded why The Dead Romantics was one of my favorite reads. Ashley Poston's writing is like getting a big hug or snuggling under a warm blanket on a cold day. Right away, I was hooked, and I just fell in love with the story and the characters even more as I got deeper into the story. I loved seeing the romance from both time periods, which almost felt like two different romances...just with the same couple. I loved everything about this book!
I ADORED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. It genuinely blew me away. It is such a specific and interesting concept and was executed so perfectly. Iwan and Lemon are everything to me. They had the perfect amount of banter and tension and witty humor and pining and and I love the dichotomy of seven years ago Iwan and present-day Iwan who was waiting for the love of his life to know of his existence. I swear my soul left my body when he said “its good to see you again, Lemon.” This story was so complex and witty and heartwarming and unique, filled with important messages about love and timing and grief and second chances and self-growth and I just adore every single second of it. I will be reading every single thing Ashley Poston writes in the future
I absolutely ADORED this book! It was so perfect and heartfelt and gave me all the feelings. I was a little concerned going into this book as sometimes time travel books confuse me, but overall this book executed that premise perfectly! I already want to reread as the characters were just that good!
I’m a huge fan of romance novels with a twist, so I had high hopes going into this book.
Unfortunately, I really could not seem to get into the story for this book. It felt very disjointed and poorly structured and messy. The dialogue also felt forced and awkward and I just could not get behind rooting for our MCs and their relationship.
Overall, this story was just not for me.
The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston has instantly become one of my favorite books. This book had me kicking my feet giggling and also cathartically crying. It was exactly what I needed. This book is a time traveling romance with a bit of a spin on it, and will still give readers a HEA. But it also deals with some pretty heavy topics, including the grief of losing a family member. Ashley Poston did a phenomenal job sharing her own grief on the page and I found myself relating so hard with Clementine. I instantly pre-ordered a physical copy after reading this ARC. This book is for fans of Ashley Poston, fans of time traveling romances, and for readers who want a book that can both make them kick their feet and giggle but also sob. Loved this book and can’t wait to reread it.
Sweet, Funny, and Heart Tugging!! I LOVED this book. Don’t get me wrong, there were somethings I would’ve loved more information, but overall a solid read. If you are looking for something cute with a touch of magic, this is your read. Happy feels the whole way through. Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the opportunity to read in exchange for a review.
Seven Year Slip was so clever! I was very happy with the ending and cannot wait to see what else Ashley Poston writes next!
This was such a fun follow-up to Poston's last speculative romance—the idea of lovers separated in time but united by space is brilliant for romantic tension! The themes of family and pursuing your dreams are, as ever, just as alive on the page as the romance. A joy of a read.
I will forever associate this book with my wedding now since I finished it around that time 🥹 and what a bombshell!!! I literally love love loved this book 😩💛

MY THOUGHTS:
This book was so dang refreshing. 😍 It was THE BEST palette cleanser!!! If you’ve found yourself a bit bored with your book selections lately (hi, it’s me 🙋♀️), pick this one up for your next romance! I’ll admit I am a sucker for a drop of magical realism in romances— but seriously, the story delivers soooo well with that element! 😩
The romance was so uplifting and fun! 💓 Iwan was such a solid fiction bf and I found myself relating to Clementine ☺️ While majority of the book is extra delightful, it does hit on a very heavy subject. Without saying explicitly, themes of loss and grief are explored, (which are my some of my favorites to feel while reading). I found a lot of correlations to my life this past year through these themes.
RATING EXPLAINED:
Thank you @ashleyposton for this perfect masterpiece. Five golden stars! There were several times when I was smiling to myself while reading. 😁 The best! I was also drooling over the food scenes soooo time to go eat something now 😛

Magical realism at its best! Swoony characters, funny side stories (the pigeons?!), and a love story 7 years in the making. Gah- I loved everything about this!
Stunning. Ashley Poston does it again. She’s unmatched in her ability to weave romance and grief together in a way that’s both beautiful and gripping. The circular storytelling in this book, the plot lines that never really come to an end but meet up with one another later (or earlier) in the story is so so good. The characters, the apartment as a character! I immersed myself in this story armed with my green highlighter and come out the other side with a new addition to my favorite books list. ‘The Seven Year Slip’, much like Poston’s previous book ‘The Dead Romantics’, is unmissable.
I will give a trigger warning for suicide and the grief associated with the aftermath of suicide. I wasn’t aware of it and it hit me a little hard, please take care of yourselves.
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I'm now convinced Ashley Poston should only write adult romance from now on. Her books are beautiful, somewhat melancholy and just weird enough to keep my attention. The title of this one says it all: the FMC inherits her aunt's magic apartment and follows the same path as her aunt, slipping back in time seven years and falling in love with someone who lives there. I really wondered how Poston would handle the timeline and how she could possibly pull off an HEA, but she did both very well. I can't say too much more about the plot without spoiling things, but the FMC works in publishing and the MMC is a chef. They meet because he's renting the apartment from the FMC's aunt while she and her aunt are on one of their many lengthy international trips.
Overall a slightly magical read with big feelings that will work well for fans of The Lake House. (Without prompting, I pictured Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, though they don't fit the character descriptions. No regrets.)
Why do I consider this a second chance romance? Because of the time slip, it's a second chance for the MMC, even if it's not for the FMC. In the present narrative he's been waiting for her for seven years. The ways in which he's changed in the meanwhile and his expectations/hopes for their future feel a lot to me like those we find in more traditional second-chance romances.
After the death of her beloved aunt, Clementine moves into her aunt’s magical apartment. The apartment is seven year time machine, and it has a way matchmaking residents when they need it most. Her aunt always told her to never fall in love in the apartment, but when she walks into to find Iwan, Clementine may not be able to help herself.
I LOVED THIS! It was so unpredictable and so special and so quirky - and it just worked. I stayed up way too late finishing this. It’s definitely one of my favorite books of the year.
I loved this book and predict it will be one of my favorites of the year. Now I'm eagerly awaiting whatever the author writes next.
What I loved was the ethereal feel of the book. Nostalgia, regret, hope, possibility, opportunity, connection, love, reflection, risk, family, friends, magic, grief, comfort, acceptance, authentic, grounded. A journey back to oneself and then forward as oneself. I loved Clementine and all the other characters. The dialogue and connections were wonderful. This book will stay with me like a warm, thoughtful, supportive hug of unconditional love.
I will definitely be sharing this with friends.
The narrator did an excellent job of capturing the characters and general feel of the book.
Thanks to the publisher for a copy. I'm so glad I picked up a physical copy for my shelf. All opinions are my own.
When I read that this book involved a time slip, I couldn't resist!
Clementine is an overworked book publicist whose beloved Aunt Analea has recently passed away. Analea was spontaneous, exuberant and always ready for the next adventure, all the things that Clementine is most definitely not. Her aunt always had wise words of advice for Clementine, including, "𝘵𝘰 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘧 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘰𝘯. 𝘈𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴, 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘰𝘯."
As fate would have it, Clementine inherits her aunt's fabulous Upper East Side apartment which also happens to contain a very big secret. There are seven-year time jumps that occur within its walls! Clemetine had heard hints about this from her aunt but never truly believed it until one day when she finds adorable aspiring chef named Iwan in the apartment, who claims to have received permission to stay there for the summer while job-hunting in New York. Except that it is seven years in the past.
Iwan endearingly nicknames Clementine "Lemon" and there is fantastic chemistry between the two. They begin a wonderful romance, but Clementine soon learns that sometimes when she leaves the apartment, time reverts to the present and Iwan won't always be there when she returns.
There is a lot to process but Clementine goes with the flow and falls in love. Until one day, Iwan disappears for good.
This is a delicious plot with a slow-build romance and a sparkling cast of supporting characters. I love books set in the New York City and you can feel the magic of the city through the pages. Clementine is reunited with Iwan but in the most unexpected of ways. Will this current version of Iwan remember the sweet love affair from seven years ago?
The Seven Year Slip is a lovely summer read and I couldn't help but envision this is as a movie. The seven-year time jumps are explained perfectly, and I loved the contrast between the Iwan of the past and the man he is in the present day. This is a sweet book filled with love, romance, nostalgia, food, friends and family, and I can't think of a better way to spend a summer afternoon.
