My son loves dinosaurs so I was excited to read this book. It felt like the story was all over the place and difficult to read to read at times. Also, while I’m not against fart humor, it felt unnecessary. The book redeemed itself with its fun and colorful illustrations. Overall my son enjoyed the book but did not ask for me to read it again. 3/5 stars.
I enjoyed this brightly illustrated picture book with fun dinosaur characters who pull hilarious dino stunts and tricks at the birthday party. Although some of the rhyme is forced, some couplets surprised me and I know will make reader laugh. The activities and dinosaur birthday theme ideas at the end compliment this book well. I think the reference to Christmas at the end was unnecessary and feel maybe hosting another birthday party next year would have been better and more on theme.
This is a Children's book that I read to my twin boys. The thing that bothered me while reading this book was that some of the sayings/words were British English, so I had to stop reading and tell my kids what it means. I did find the story cute and fun, and the pictures were so cute and bright. There was some facts about dinosaurs that worked into the story like the fastest dinosaur. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
Within the first page on description of dinosaurs it had me laughing out loud
Descriptive words stand out because of the font design and color
Illustrations are bright and fun. They illustrate the story being told on the page very well by giving you a visual of what is going on.
I read this book with my 3 year old son and he seemed to really enjoy it. We have read a few in this series so far and I'll probably keep picking them up since my son loves Dinosaurs at the moment.
Rating: 5 out of 5

A very ADORABLE Dinosaur Birthday book! Little ones will be sure to giggle when reading this book! It’s too cute and has great rhyming words.
The illustrations are very cute!
I received a free digital copy to read from the author.
"A Very Dinosaur Birthday" by Adam Wallace is a delightful and humorous picture book that takes readers on a wild adventure of what could happen if dinosaurs were invited to a birthday party. With lively rhymes and vibrant illustrations, this book will capture the attention of young readers and have them laughing out loud.
The story follows a group of children who decide to invite dinosaurs to their birthday party. However, things quickly go awry as the massive creatures wreak havoc on the festivities, causing chaos and hilarity at every turn. From smashing presents to devouring all the snacks, the dinosaurs make the party a complete disaster.
What makes this book stand out is the author's clever use of language and witty humor. The rhymes are catchy and easy to follow, making it an enjoyable read-aloud for parents and teachers. The illustrations by Scott Sneed are colorful and dynamic, perfectly capturing the chaotic energy of the story.
Overall, "A Very Dinosaur Birthday" is a fun and engaging picture book that will leave young readers giggling and asking for more. It's an excellent addition to any children's bookshelf and is sure to become a favorite for those who love dinosaurs and silly adventures.
I would love a physical copy.
Adam Wallace is a wonderful writer and the kids will love this dinosaur book addition to the library collection!
This was a cute dinosaur birthday book. Illustrations are nice and very vibrant. Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book for review!
Well this wasn’t what my kids and I expected and I don’t mean that as a compliment. This book is made up of potty humor rhymes using dinosaurs as the hook. The actual book holds zero facts about dinosaurs and, frankly, the dinosaurs could easily be replaced with unicorns, dragons, etc as the fact that they’re dinosaurs really has no impact on the actual “story.” The author mentions on the first page that dinosaurs are “farty” but we don’t offer any explanation for that. The book mentions stinky and bum to get an easy laugh out of the kids but I think that’s a cheap trick. The illustrations are colorful but that’s about the only compliment I can give this book. The thing is, kids who are into dinosaurs LOVE the dinosaur facts and are often a little offended when authors don’t understand that kids are little paleontologists in training who know way more about dinosaurs than they are given credit for. This book just doesn’t do dinosaur fans any justice. Not for us.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Children’s Publisher for the advance electronic copy. I was happy to provide an honest review.
A Very Dinosaur Birthday is a kid’s book that starts out a little rocky talking about the bad things related to dinosaurs when they are invited to a birthday party but it turns around towards the end and gets better. The illustrations are fun and engaging.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book for my honest opinion,
My son is absolutely obsessed with this dinosaurs so I was so excited to read this. I really enjoyed this book and I know my son and other children would love it!
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This was a cute rhyming story about how dinosaurs would affect a child's birthday party if they weren't extinct and attended. Although the effects were largely negative, like an anklyosaurus playing pin the tail on the donkey would also bust through the wall like the Kool-aid man, some of them were positive, like being the best at tag by riding a velociraptor.
The illustrations for this one were really fun. They were also very bright and colorful with some nice shading, especially on the dinosaurs. This is a book I could read a few times without problem because it really was a fun read for a children's book. Overall I give this book 4.36 out of 5 stars.
This is a super cute children's book for any child who loves dinosaurs or even ones who don't. A child invites the dinosaurs to his birthday party and they wreak havoc. But in the end the dinosaurs make the party extra fun and different than any other kids birthday parties. This book has great illustrations that are colorful and fun to look at while reading the story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for allowing me to read this book. It was cute and I loved the illustrations. It would be a fun book to read out loud to a child or a class. The pacing seemed a bit off to me and I got a bit confused during the shift of bad dinosaur behaviour to good. However, it made more sense after rereading it.
What would happen if you invited dinosaurs to your birthday party?
From the author of the popular How To Catch series, Adam Wallace shows young readers why having dinos at their party might be a bad idea. The book is wonderfully illustrated by Christopher Nielsen.
My one concern with the content of the book is the use of the word “fart” and some other bathroom talk. Having worked with young children, these types of things tend to cause a lot of giggles and disruption in the classroom setting. I know a lot of teachers try to avoid books with certain words that are not necessarily “bad words” but will often cause issues during storytime.
In our home, these types of words are not an issue and can often be used as a teachable moment.
Overall, A Very Dinosaur Birthday, is a humorous book that may be enjoyed by any young dinosaur fans.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson: Children’s!
This is a fun book that I know kids will love. A
child invites a gaggle of dinosaurs to his birthday bash and mayhem and chaos ensues. Dinosaurs are HUGE, ravenous, AND farty! Oh my! They smash and crash and cause lots of disturbances.
This hilarious book is written in rhyme and the detailed illustrations are vibrant, colourful and full of action and fun.
A Very Dinosaur Birthday is perfect for:
boys and girls 4 to 10 years old and dino lovers of all ages
fans of Dragons Love Tacos and How to Catch a Dinosaur
fun family story times and getting the giggles out before bed
a gift for birthdays and other celebrations
If your child is a fan of dinosaurs then this book is must read. A Very Dinosaur Birthday is an interactive read-aloud that kids will love reading again and again. I highly recommend!
A Very Dinosaur Birthday by Adam Wallace - 5/5
If you are a fan of dinosaurs this is the book for you. A Very Dinosaur Birthday is a fun interactive read-aloud that had all of us smiling and enjoying the story. The illustrations are vibrant and eye catching, the kids loved the dinosaurs on all the pages.
A fun birthday book! My son loved how the dinosaurs behaved at the party, for better or for worse. The story was engaging and funny. We will definitely purchase this when it comes out!
Review to come on the 19th of June on blog/goodreads/etc.
I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
Well, this just didn't work for me. Well, in parts, I mean there were things I liked, but for most it didn't.
I thought this would be a very fun book about a kid having a birthday party with fun things happening with dinosaurs. Instead we get a party that is absolutely RUINED and CRASHED by dinosaurs. They fart and gas you all around. They break you stuff. They wreck your games. They ruin the cake. They ruin and destroy your gifts. And I could just go on with all the lists. It was all very frustrating to read because I just wanted to have the dinosaurs and humans get along and I found the dinosaurs just WAY to horrible and mean and terrible. I am frankly not even sure what the point was of it all. To show dinosaurs are mean? Some analogy or whatever the name is for being naughty? I don't know.
What I did like? The art was really fun, I loved the colours and I especially loved how the dinosaurs were drawn. In the good old fashioned way. I know, I know everyone is drawing feathers now, but I am just not of the chicken dinosaurs so this was a delight. To see a good raptor and not the tiny chicken it is these days. BLESS!
And the ending turned out to be quite nice as well.
But yeah, all in all, not my thing. 2 stars for the fab illustrations and the fun ending.
