Beautiful. A gorgeous little snapshot into Leo’s life during the war. I wish we could get more of her story!

With a foot in the old style of graphic novels this makes an interesting and beautiful book. Her grandma sounds like a woman who should be rememberd this way.

3.5/5 stars

What a lovely way for the author to pay tribute to her grandmother! This is a beautiful little book; I really liked the art style and it's a sweet story. I would have loved to connect to the characters and narrative a bit more but I thought this was well worth the read.

Leo in Little Pieces by Mayana Itoiz is a autobiographical graphic novel based on the author’s grandmother’s experiences during WWII. Leo, the titular character, works as a waitress at her family’s inn in France. During the war, it’s occupied by the Germans, and Leo has a relationship with Felix, one of the German soldiers. She later becomes pregnant and we follow her life in the years that follow.

Told through flashbacks and memories, Leo in Little Pieces moves quickly but a bit jaggedly. The biggest drawback is that the author does not pause to give depth to any of the characters, and the story stands only at a very superlative level. The illustrations are beautiful though. An okay-ish read.

This graphic novel was hilarious and well-drawn, definitely worth the money and the hype, and I hope will be successful!

Interesting story, the art was reminiscent of old comics and cartoons and I enjoyed it. It was still a bit lacking, I could not connect to the emotions the characters were expressing so it felt like I was just reading/looking at snapshots of time instead of being allowed to fully immerse myself in the experiences from the story.

Leo in Little Pieces is a story of a young girl Leo. It's a sad story told in fractions, set in France in WWII. The story is assembled from pieces from her youth and later in life when she becomes a mother and grandmother.

Color illustrations are beautiful. Also, the font for speech is lovely and still easy to read.

Thanks to Europe Comics for the ARC and this opportunity! This is a voluntary review and all opinions are my own.

A beautiful but difficult read. The life story of a young (now old) woman who had a secret relationship with a German soldier during the war is beautifully presented through magnificent art.

I loved this graphic novel from the first moment, plus it's based on the true story of the author’s grandmother.
The plot is very touching and talks about a love between a German soldier and a French girl during the Second World War.
The art style is beautiful and delicate.
I absolutely recommend it

Nicely engaging story of a French girl going out with a young, innocent Nazi soldier in occupied France, but it doesn't really show us that much that is brand new. There was a black market, there was bravery, there were people needing to flee, there were "horizontal collaborators", and there were enforced disappearances. I'm not a hundred per cent sure about the more modern scenes, not all of which seem to add much. While it's nicely designed, and clearly is a personal work, it didn't have the spark to suggest it was a must-read. Three and a half stars.

Léo in Little Pieces by Mayana Itoïz was such a beautifully illustrated graphic novel with a poignant storyline. I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. It is about the author's grandmother and her love affair during WWII.

This is a sweet book that illustrates the story of the author's grandmother, who lived during the war in France. It is light and fun, yet it is also grave and heartbreaking. A great read!

A very interesting historical comic that covers some of the events of World War II from the perspective of a woman/young girl. It is inspired by a true story and photographs from the era. The art is lovely, though the lettering is hard to read at times. I know cursive very well but with unfamiliar place names and foreign language terms it proved just a little difficult to decipher for brief moments. That didn't detract from the story as a whole though.

Léo is a slow, bittersweet tale, focusing on the conflicts of daily life against the backdrop of the second world war. We flit between the past and the present, comparing Léo as a teenager with her older self. This book has a welcome whimsical atmosphere considering the topic, but the flip between past and present gets a little bit of getting used to.

As Americans, we dont often get to see how people in other countries experienced the World Wars. This is a touching family story, pieced together as a graphic novel. I'm glad the author shared Leo in her little pieces with us.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance reader copy!

This was quite an interesting story. I did enjoy the layout of this book, and I thought the main character was quite relatable, and I love the little pieces of her life and how she became who she was and how everyone has a backstory. I thought this was really heartfelt and gripping, and I would read more from this author in the future, as I also really like that style.

Really loved the artwork of the book but wasn’t all that gripped by the story. It was lovely to see strong women fend for themselves during the German occupation in France, though the amount of time jumping didn’t allow me to feel particularly connected to any of the characters.
