Wispy Fescue runs a detective agency with his colleagues, Strangely Drye and Miss Wanda Cushway. They’ve had a few unlikely successes, but recently there’s been a conspicuous lack of wires looking for their services. If they’re ever to make a name for themselves, they need a high-profile case – and soon. And they get one. I love this character….quirky, fun and interesting. I hope this will be a long running series. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers for review.
A delightful Wodehousian romp inside a smashing British whodunit full of crazy slapstick, delicious gastronomy and lots of sparkling dialogues!
Never a dull moment with Wispy Fescue and his talented crew as they relentlessly try to save a beautiful society heiress from the hangman's noose as she stands accused of poisoning her fiancé....
An action packed fictional journey across the English Channel set at the dawn of the Roaring Twenties, fabulously plotted and blessed with a terrific cast of exquisitely drawn characters, The Biscuit Barrel Murder is a hilarious and unforgettable literary treat that deserves to be discovered and enjoyed without any moderation whatsoever!
Many thanks to The Book Guild and Netgalley for this marvellous ARC!
It’s 1922 and Sir William Fescue’s detective agency has been doing very well solving some small cases. Now they’ve been asked to prove the innocence of a young lady charged with murdering her fiancee. And they only have thirteen days!
The plot was interesting and intelligent, the characters were engaging and unique, and the story was filled with a great deal of humor. A cozy historical mystery that makes for a light, fun read—and I hope will be the first in a long running series.
Very much recommend!
(This book is in Goodreads without the isbn. Leaving a review, but the publisher should have this fixed.)
A lovely, light mystery in the vein of Agatha raisin. Perfect for when you want that little bit of excitement with loveable characters and a few elements that will still surprise you!
The first in what I hope will be a series, The Biscuit Barrel Murder is a fun read.
Set in 1922, Wispy Fescue and his chums have set up a detective agency and are tasked to prove the innocence of a young lady charged with murder. Set between England and France, the plot is jolly good fun and moves along at a cracking pace, which kept me interested throughout.
If you like a spot of jolly hockey sticks sleuthing and dastardly murderers, you’ll enjoy this!
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy in return for an honest review.
Such a quirky book. I really enjoyed reading this one. The characters were unique, and I really enjoyed the humour of the book. Definitely a book to read when you need your sprirts lifted.
1922 The Fescue Detective Agency has been approached to prove the innocence of convicted murderess Josephine Leighton. Who was found guilty of the murder by poison of fiancé George, Viscount Thurmaston. After having cases of only looking for lost animals are are they up to the challenge. Are they a competent group of people.
An enjoyable cozy historical mystery written with humour, with its group of mainly likeable characters. An easy read and a decent start to this new series.
An ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Delightful Romp..
A detective agency with a difference in this wholly delightful romp. Sparkling characters accompany Wispy Fescue in running the agency in desperate need for a new crime to investigate. When they find it, chaos ensues, sending the chums barrelling across the channel for clues - obviously taking time to appreciate the gastronomic delights on offer along the way. All jolly good fun, with more than a touch of Wodehouse, and with a delicious mystery at its’ heart.
Yeah this was a fun mystery book it happened in London. Frokm.thr food the characters and the setting it was more like a suspense it kept you wondering what was going to happen next. Thu
Is book was approved by netgalley and the publisher for me to read and review.
Geoffrey Start has produced a jolly good yarn with his character Wispy Fescue he’s an aristocrat & private detective who so far has found some art and cows, but now he’s been offered a big case that could put him and his agency on the map. So along with him chums, who all have some great names he sets about to end a terrible miscarriage of justice.
The biscuit barrel Murder is a delightful nostalgic romp and I really enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this book which reminded me of a grown-up version of the Blotto and Twinks books by Simon Brett. I found that I could not put this book down. The characters were so well considered, and I loved how the mystery was set across England and France all in a time when the quickest way to move between the 2 was via a fishing boat. This is a truly good read set in a non-technological world and was so much the better for it.
I am hoping that this will be the start of a brilliant new series and I for one am looking forward to the next.
This is the fist book I read by this author and read it in one sitting. It reminded me of Simon Brett's Blott&Twinks and I had a lot of fund in following the antics of the characters and the twists of the solid mystery.
I hope there will be other stories featuring these characters
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
A cute historical set in the 1920s. Wispy Fescue, an English aristocrat, has his own detective agency and sets out to solve a murder with his colleagues. It seems like this might be the first in a new series!
