I cannot believe how much information is in this book! The author takes the time to thoroughly explain all the steps, the history, everything really. I was so impressed. I’m not sure I’ll be using cookie molds anytime soon but I absolutely could. Also cookie molds are unique and kinda cool.

What a great cookie book! Even though I haven't used many cookie molds, I have a few in my collection and I have always found them extraordinarily beautiful. I really enjoyed paging through the photos and accompanying text.

COOKIE MOLDS AROUND THE YEAR is as delightful as it is informative. I never knew there were so many forms of cookie molds, or that they go back in time as far as they do! I have a few modern ones that are lovely, but the can't compare with what are on the pages of this book. Author Anne L. Watson did her research, and it shows.

Adding recipes alongside the showcase of molds, takes COOKIE MOLDS AROUND THE YEAR to a whole different level.

This is a sure buy for all interested.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Next River Books in exchange for an honest review of “Cookie Molds Around the Year,” by Anne L. Watson.

I grew up baking with cookie molds. My mother’s maternal family were primarily German immigrants, and I have fond memories of making Anise Cookies with two ancient hand-carved wooden molds that were handed down from a great-grandmother, and are possibly from my 3rd great-grandmother. So, when I saw the title for this book, I was determined to read it.

The author chose to include 12 sections—one for each month of the year—and provided a number of different recipes in each. Watson spend a great deal of time talking about where she lived (San Juan Island) and included short stories as well. The author also included some minor introductions to some modern wood carvers, and also included short sections on the variety of different stamps that are made. For example, pottery stamps, silicone, wood, and etc.

The book’s title gripped my attention, but the book as a whole did not. I don’t know what program people used when designing the book, but the book would have benefitted from the use of a good graphic designer. For example, the recipes could have fitted on one page instead of being dragged out to two pages.

Over all, this was an okay book. I was expecting to learn more about using the molds and caring for them, but she basically refers readers to read another one of her previously published books. The author did include some beautiful photographs, though.

I read this book because it threw me into a state of nostalgia.
when I was younger in the '80s these cookie molds were a big trend. I have fond memories of my mother and my grandmother and myself in the kitchen talking, laughing.
the two most important women in my life teaching me recipes that we all enjoyed, baking
how to measure properly and passing down traditions I still pass down to this day..
it was something I thoroughly enjoyed.
so reading this and seeing all of the different cookie molds that are out there and all of the different ideas, what molds go with what holiday really hits home for me. it gives me the warm and fuzzies, wonderful feelings and takes me back to a time where it was simpler. the laughs and fond memories kept flooding back and it gave me great joy while reading this.

Thank you NetGalley and Next River Books for accepting my request to read and review Cookie Molds Around the Year. (An Almanac of Molds, Cookies, and Other Treats for Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Other Holidays, and Every Season.)

Published: 12/06/17

You don't have to be a baker to enjoy this book. I have the Kindle version. I would consider this as a coffee or side table flip through book without seeing the actual physical book.

I was awe struck by the various molds; some were incredible. My take on cookie molds are used at Christmas for sugar cookies: santa, bell, star, and of course a tree.

In this book the molds are varying sizes and have different levels of detail.

There are also recipes. I'm not a baker, therefore I wasn't able to assess the availability of the ingredients. Throughout the book there is some history and tips.

My biggest takeaway was to know the recipe, not all recipes can be used in molds. This is something I would have given no thought to.

"Cookie Moulds Around the Year" is a celebration of cookies and the moulds you can use to make fantastic cookie designs. I admit to not being a cookie mould aficionado but I did quite enjoy the cookie recipes and I plan to pull out some of the moulds that have been left to me by my grandmother in order to try out some of these recipes..

I definitely think this a book that will have a niche audience but if you are a baker and have any interest in learning to use cookie moulds to enhance your cookie baking, this is a wonderful resource.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC n exchange for an honest review.

This is a very quick review as I have owned this book for over 5 years! I love cookie molds and I love looking on the internet for new ones...this book is a great reference and it will get you on eBay and Poshmark looking for new molds for your collection.

I actually have molds that we use for clay and other kid's crafts as few people appreciate the cookies that come out of the molds other than saying 'oh, pretty" before diving into the cookie...between molds and rolling pins that create patterns, you can get some beautiful cookies.

Excellent recipes as well and there are tips on how to get your cookies out of the mold, which can cause some consternation if you are a newbie to using them.

Great book..but I would spell it is as MOULD as I am Canadian :-)

Anyone interested in baking with cookie molds will want to pick up Anne Watson’s second book, Cookie Molds Around the Year: An Almanac of Molds, Cookies, and Other Treats for Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Other Holidays, and Every Season
. The book not only has extra hints on baking with cookie molds, but new recipes to expand the repertoire so make you an expert when using the molds, as well as sources to find new molds.

Watson is an expert, and her two books are very helpful. The recipes are written in an easy-to-follow manner, and they are recipes for cookies that will appeal to every cookie aficionado. The photographs of both the molds and cookies are professional and beautiful, and make this a fun book to have on your cookbook shelf.

This cookbook has ideas for every month of the year, and molds that will help celebrate holidays with festive cookies. Watson has also included several recipes for beautiful cookie tartlets which are perfect for a fancy cookie tray. There are also recipes and instructions for cookie stamps, which are a bit easier, albeit not as fancy, than the actual stamps.

All told, anyone who loves beautiful molded cookies will want to pick up a copy of this excellent cookbook.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I’ve read a LOT of recipe books, and this one is unlike any other I’ve ever come across. It features some lovely, unique biscuit and cookie recipes, alongside a myriad of beautiful cookie mould examples. I enjoyed flicking through and seeing the many different varieties, and all the different effects you can create.

Thank you to Next River Books and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.

I love to bake so I jumped on the opportunity to get a copy of this book from Netgalley. It is a great mix of stories, tips, and recipes. There were many pictures, I always want more pictures in any kind of cookbook but there were a lot. I really enjoyed the baking/mood tips that were given. I always think it's best to learn from someone who has been doing something for a while and wants to help you avoid mistakes they have worked through previously. I would recommend this book and but it for others, I thought it was well done.
