The start of a brilliant new series featuring romance and much fun. It took a little while to get into but once I did it was glorious. The characters are lovely and the romance made me swoon.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this book.
I really enjoyed this book. It was very hard for me to initially get in to but I love how it ended.
Memory Lane by Becky Wade is a Sons of Scandal book. Wow— this series is off to a fantastic start! I loved Jeremiah and Rent’s story so much. This book dealt well with serious issues like suicide and sexual assault. The mysteries will keep you reading and you’ll be rooting for the characters to find hope with the tragedies they have experienced. Amazing book! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
This is a brilliant start to a new series. Becky Wade just keeps getting better with every novel she writes. This had romance, mystery and family. Remy has hidden herself on a remote island and is quietly getting on with her life. That is, until one day she rescues a man out of the water. He’s badly injured and has amnesia. The banter between the two of them sparked off the page and I honestly couldn’t put this book down. We’re also introduced to some of the rest of the family (we haven’t met Max yet…) and there are enough teasers to know that the next book will be a cracker too!
I was not expecting the mystery that this story held, but it added such a great dimension and balanced out the romance between the characters. This is my first book by Becky Wade so I can’t compare it to her others, but I loved that the characters were real and flawed and dealt with some hard stuff in their lives. They weren’t perfect Christians and didn’t have perfect faith but neither do the rest of us. Overall, I really enjoyed the storyline and will be reading more by Wade and recommending this book to others. Also, I’m looking forward to the second book in this series!
I have been a fan of Becky Wade for years because she writes such fantastic stories with wonderful characters and Memory Lane was no exception. However, I learned that she can also write a story with some mystery and I was totally there for it. I hope to see more stories from her in the future with mystery components. I know some people including myself are leery of stories that center around characters with amnesia, but do not let that discourage you from reading this one because that storyline is very well done. There is such depth to the characters and complex aspects to the story, but I do not want to give too much away so I will leave it at that. This is definitely one of my favorite reads of the year and I would highly recommend. This is the first in the series so I am excited to see what the rest of the series holds.
Thank you to the author and publisher for a copy of this book. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
This was my favorite Wade book to date!! I love how the characters interact with each other and how they are so oil and water to begin with. Honestly, neither had a lot of redeeming qualities in the beginning. There was a lot of character growth and a lot of twists and turns. Some still leave me wondering. I had an 'I did not see the coming moment'.
Thank you to Ms. Wade and NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
I’m a big fan of Becky Wade’s books. This one was different and I missed the faith component that I’ve read in her other books. It also felt scattered with extra POVs such as Fiona's and Jude's. Having said that, I enjoyed the setting, the character of "Jonah," and the mystery of finding out his true identity as well as a mystery he was solving before he got amnesia.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.
Entertaining, engaging and sparky I loved this book. The right mix of plot driven but fun I had a wonderful time reading this book.
I have had a little bit of a rocky relationship with Becky Wade’s books, she has a very unique writing style and sometimes it works for me and others it doesn’t so I was a bit hesitant about picking up this one but I’m so glad I did!
I absolutely loved the back and forth between Remy and Jeremiah! There was plenty of spark and wit to go around and it just hit perfectly. I loved their romance, Remy being all prickly towards Jeremiah and him falling for her anyway and winning her over with his patience and persistence!
There was also some mystery aspect to the story that was rather interesting and I was invested in it playing out (also was proud of myself for figuring parts of it out before the end).
The only thing I think I could’ve done without was the mom’s POV and romance-it didn’t work for me and she read younger than she was which just made things feel awkward.
All in all though a stellar read and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series!
I received a free copy and it was throughly entertaining and it was well written.
It kept my interest and pertained to an introvert.
I recommend it
I love the setting of this novel. Our heroine is in hiding-out mode, living on an island off the coast of Maine. She’s content in the safe life she’s built for herself. In her hideaway, she can craft her art and avoid dealing with the challenges that led to her decision to hibernate. But not for long.
We see a strong heroine and a role reversal from the beginning as she rescues the hero from drowning. Then, she cares for him as he recovers physically. His memory recovery will take a bit longer.
The whole time he's healing, she struggles with his presence in her world, how he upsets her routine. There’s obvious chemistry and attraction between them, which was delicious in this “sweet”* romance.
As an sculptor, the heroine artist escapes through story into her fantasy worlds. It’s a coping mechanism that fosters her escape from reality, and that dissociation keeps her productive. But the fatal flaw’s time runs out, forcing her to face reality.
Fellow artists, and perhaps especially authors, will relate with this delicious element—inventing stories via a vivid imagination.
There are some fringe elements in this novel, namely a telepathic character with "powers" in the artist’s imagination, and the use of hypnotherapy to recover memory in an amnesiac. I think the story would have worked without those elements, and as a Christian reader, I wonder how those elements would be received well by CBA readership. That said, they are easily overlooked in light of the enjoyment of the rest of the book.
One of the Christian elements include the fact our hero wants to attend church. He has experienced God’s presence, and even before he gets his memories back, he craves God.
One of the ingredients Becky always includes, that I’m sure readers will love, is chemistry and swoon-worthy moments. She’s a master at this and lovers of sweet romances will enjoy watching these characters explore their attraction in a “clean” way. This was my favorite part of the book as we get realism and intensity, while remaining wholesome.
Check out this fantastic setup: The heroine must test the waters to recover from her past trauma. The hero volunteers himself. 'Nuff said.
I enjoyed this book, overall. Definitely looking forward to more novels in this series!
*Sweet romance is a genre of wholesome romance.
I really love these words from the author about her book and just had to share:
“We booklovers understand each other, don’t we? We’ve experienced the reckless thrill of staying up late reading. We know what it feels like when a romance captures our emotions, when a plot twist blindsides us, when our anxiety mounts because characters are in peril. We cry and laugh over books. We find rest in their pages. Reading is our luxury…”
“Memory Lane” is the first book in A Sons of Scandal Romance series and wow, it was so good. It had a different cadence than Wade’s prior books, but it was refreshingly deep and a beautiful read. I loved the story of the Camdens, and how they can maybe find their happy endings. I especially loved the couple in this book, a lone artist, and an amnesiac man with a rich attitude. Such an unlikely match, but so drawn together, it just worked.
“She could not be alone tonight with the Camden eyes and the Camden swagger and the Camden smile.”
Deeply hurt by a prior experience, Remy’s trust in men has been demolished. This is a story of regaining that trust when it’s the right person. It’s also a story of faith, once lost and found again. There are some deep hurts in this book and subject matter that could be a trigger, but it’s handled so well it made for a an incredible read. Wade has a way of drawing her readers into the story and with understanding their personalities and cheering them on as they go deeper and ultimately find healing.
I loved the banter, The cottage setting, The mystery. The romance. It kept me guessing right to the end!
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own, and have been given honestly.
I usually read historical fiction but every once in awhile, I venture into the contemporary romance genre and find that Becky Wade is one of the authors I can trust to pen a sweet romance with a subtle faith thread.
I was very much intrigued with the title of the series "Sons of Scandal" and couldn't wait to see how Becky would bend this to fit the clean romance trope her readers have come to expect.
I was not disappointed with the first book in the series. I absolutely adored the chemistry between Jeremiah and Remy. Each is haunted by traumatic events in their respective pasts. The author writes serious topics with a graceful pen.
Not only does Remy want to help Jeremiah recover his memories, they also have a mystery to solve. Wade pens realistic characters that are easy to relate to, even the hunky, super-rich ones.
I think the reason why I love Becky Wade's books is the fact that they provide more than a sweet romance, they are stories filled with hope, finding the strength to trust and love again.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher through Netgalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was my first Becky Wade book! Wade's writing was immersive and drew me in immediately. This book had mystery, romance, a beautiful backdrop for the amnesia trope. This definitely won't be my last Becky Wade book!
I really liked the mystery in this book. And you’re hooked in the first chapter. Remy is a woman with a past who rescues a beaten man floating in the water by her home in Maine. The mystery begins when Remy decides to help “Jonah” uncover who he really is.
The characters are deep and relatable, both have challenging pasts. It was fun going on the journey of memory recovery and then dealing with how “Jonah” lost his memory in the first place. Remy is a sweet soul overcoming obstacles to find her safe place in the world. And as the story progresses, you find that he wants to be that safe place for her.
Very very good book. Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing for an ARC to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Signature Becky Wade style - rich characters who you laugh at and love and plot lines that immediately suck you in and keep you reading.
This was another hit for me. At this point, Becky Wade is a must-read author. I like everything she writes.
Read this book if you enjoy contemporary romance, amnesia tropes, small-town setting, great characters, and a rom-com with a little more depth and a lot of heart.
Unfortunately I couldn't review this book due to problems with formatting. My review is based on the blurb and I will be purchasing it on amazon.
I honestly DNF'd this one. I could not get into the plotline, characters, or style of writing. I am not usually one to pick up a book if it is written in the third person point of view and this story was. I think I would try to read it again when I am in the mood for a contemporary fiction or romance read!
Excited to see whatever else this author has to offer because I am in need of some Christian fiction!
Memory Lane was a page turner! I enjoyed the trope of girls rescues guy. Remy the main character is relatable and has a lot of spunk! An independent artist who lives on an island off the coast of Maine. One day, Remy spots a man floating in the ocean and rushes into the sea to save him.. The man is a John Doe whom they end up calling Jonah because he can't remember anything. Jonah is in need of a lot of medical attentio. Remy calls on her friend and neighbor who is an EMT to help get Jonah back on his feet. What led Jonah to end up floating in the ocean all alone? As time goes on, Jonah and Remy start to look into his to find out who he is and where he came from. While looking into to the past and Remy thinking about their own, they find out that they might just be what each other needs.
