The colorful words and whimsical pictures are great. I see and even hear the animals roll around with the pumpkins and have tons of fun. The sing-song words are great for this book. Kids will love it! Parents will enjoy reading it to their little ones. This is a fabulous family reading time book. Seriously!! Hoorah for Pumpkin Day at the Zoo. This book is a must.
Beautifully written and illustrated encouraging children to donate their pumpkins to the zoo or some other animal habitat. I love encouraging children to not be wasteful. As a bonus, they can have fun while doing something good.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A fun picture book about what the animals at the zoo do with pumpkins donated by a local farmer. Excellent story and illustrations.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to review this book.
This book was absolutely adorable I loved it, being a new grandma you start looking at children books to see what to get and this opportunity was perfect. The illustration was amazing the story was cute and was definitely out of the fall norm which drew me to it. I like Halloween and all but sometimes during the fall you need fall vibe books or even Thanksgiving you don’t see much of them either.. again thank you.
Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with a digital ARC of this title via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
I love Susan Meissner so was anxious to see her first children's picture book. Its cute, it rhymes, kids will love the pictures. I am a much bigger fan of her novels, but this is a cute book for Halloween/Fall
This was a such a cute book. What a great fall book! Beautiful illustrations of all the zoo animals.
For the people who grow just too many pumpkins and squashes every autumn, and never learn the limit they need to work to, this is a pleasantly-rhymed and very colourful look at what happens when a zoo gets a donation of them all. Yes, even the critters who would never be seen dead eating such stuff (otters, aardvarks and tigers spring to attention as surely not actually being pumpkin fans) dig in. That's all it is – the verse, the proof that animals can be really thankful at this time of year, and a reminder that such places might want your surplus. I guess this is the best way to present such a slight offering, so four stars are called for, but it's not exactly a wonder now.
Pumpkin Day at the Zoo by Susan Meissner is a new fall story that isn’t about Halloween. Told in rhyme, this story celebrates all the good that can come from sharing with your community. In the story, the animals at the zoo enjoy repurposed pumpkins, and the story shows children the importance and benefits of donating and repurposing. The illustrations are bright and lively and will surely draw readers in. Both humorous and educational, this new fall story is sure to be a new fall favorite!
😊Thank you Thomas Nelson Children’s (@thomasnelson) and @NetGalley for the gifted ebook ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is such a cute book about many zoos' tradition of feeding leftover pumpkins to the animals. My patrons at our library in Peoria will connect the tradition of the pumpkin feeding at the Peoria Zoo. This was a fun non-Halloween book, and I can't wait to add it to our collection!
I really loved this book. I loved that it is an any time of year book, mostly autumn. But it could be used when as a book to learn more about the zoo. I am glad that it was a fall book but not a Halloween book. Not everyone likes to celebrate Halloween.
It would be great to read aloud to preschoolers, they would love it! The illustrations are so fun with all the animals eating and playing. I would definitely recommend it!
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this book. The opinions are entirely my own.
What do you do with pumpkins after Halloween is over?
Why... you donate them to the animals in the Zoo, of course!!
This delightful story is told in a poetry format.
It was so cute and the art was absolutely PERFECT.
I recommend this book to teachers, families and homeschoolers, to show how seasons are celebrated throughout the animal kingdom!
When you've read plenty of books by the author and loved them and then you see she has her first children's book out, you ask yourself, wow is that the same author actually. Sure, enough it is.
Young children are going to want to read this seasonal book time and again. Vividly illustrated, we are treated to all the zoo animals receiving pumpkins. Some of the animals play with the pumpkins first before eating them. Entertaining, the parents can turn this into a fun reading experience for the youngest in the family.
Also, did you know if you have extra pumpkins in your home garden or field, zoos and wildlife organizations will take your donations? So don't just let your extras rot, help out if you can.
A lovely read that we will be returning to.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

Adorable rhyming romp through the zoo in the fall. I liked the colorful illustrations, wide variety of animals, and rhythm of the text. Great for kids and parents who like animals, zoos, and reading together. Thanks to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for the electronic copy of this book to read and review. I immediately went and ordered a copy to share with my great niece and nephew.

My 2.5 year old enjoyed this book! She kept saying it was cute! The story was very cute and the artwork is lovely, but sometimes it felt a little chaotic to follow.
I love this book! Its colorful illustrations liven up the clever rhymes and rhythm of the story. Perfect read aloud fall book for families. Then go and visit your local zoo!
Pumpkin Day at the Zoo by Susan Meissner is the cutest book about a zoo. I remember once being at the Como Zoo in Minnesota and they were giving the animals pumpkins the people just loved it.
I didn't know pumpkin and zoo goes well together. But this story make it happen!
I like how creative the author is, she used rhymes to make things interesting and honestly, I enjoyed it! I believe that the editing including the illustrations, different sizes of font and colours used for words made the story more enjoyable, as it exudes a goofy yet fun vibe. Young readers would absolutely love it. I think it managed to capture the fun element in keeping readers entertained.
Thank you netgalley for approving this advanced reader copy, I am blessed with a good read❤️
