I understand the attempt at a glimpse into an unstable mind, but it felt sloppy and too erratic. I guessed early on the switch coming at the end. At the big reveal, I just simply wanted to finish. It was a clever plot, and perhaps I have read too many suspense novels to be surprised.
This gave dark academia vibes, which I’m here for! There were lots of twists and suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat. What a great thriller read!
An engaging read that I thoroughly enjoyed! Well written and thrilling! Highly recommend and will purchase several physical and digital copies for library collections. Thank you!!
This was a good psychological thriller! I enjoyed the pace of the story and was excited to have predicted the twist correctly! I would def recommend this one to anyone that enjoys a creepy read.
The Night It Ended is a psychological thriller that will keep you on your toes and takes a unique twist on some of your favorite tropes.
A creepy boarding school, a doctor POV, and a locked door mystery. This story is similar to some that you've read in the past I'm sure, but it does have a unique perspective that makes it a unique read in the space.
This book had big potential; I enjoyed parts of it more than others. The ending wasn't really a shock to me, since I guessed it around the 50% mark of the book.
I loved this book! It's well-written, enjoyable, and a great read. The author did a great job of writing in a way that captures the readers attention, and makes you not want to put it down until you're finished! I would highly recommend it!
Thank you NetGalley and to the publishers for giving me this ARC in exchange for honest review!
Unfortunately I had to DNF this one.
I just couldn’t bring myself to pick this book up anymore, not for me.
I was intrigued by the plot of this one with the setting being at an isolated boarding school. This had the potential to be a great, dark, disturbing mystery but the mystery aspect just fell to the wayside. I just really could not get into this one.
The Night Ie Ended sounded so good from the synopsis. Katie Garner is a new-to-me author. The school was really atmospheric and I really wanted to know what had happened to Charly. I enjoyed Madeleine’s backstory.
Thanks to Katie Garner.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of The Night It Ended by Katie Garner in exchange for my honest review and opinion. This is honestly a book that will scare the daylights out of you and have you thinking about it long after you finish it. This is a fantastic psychological thriller that will grab you in from page one and keep you guessing until the ending which will shock you! Great book that will make you yearn for more from this author!
I had high hopes for this one. The story goes like this: It soon becomes clear that something is very wrong with Dr.
Pine. There were numerous descriptions of her medication bottles and frequent references to sticking to a schedule. We gets bits and pieces of her past through frenetic flashbacks that usually involve her husband and daughter. I found myself rolling my eyes frequently at the doctor's behavior, which was not at all professional, but when strange things started happening in the room where she was staying, it wasn't hard to figure out what that meant. The ending of her storyline, however, was quite unexpected and shocking. I was hoping for a twisty mystery focusing on Charley, but she remained on the fringe of the book's focus, and the mystery behind her death was wholly unsatisfying and anti-climactic.
A dark and twisted story full of plot twists. I felt all the emotions of the characters and the writing was done so well that you really felt like you were in the scene with them. Loved this!
This was not for me. The story was kinda slow and I couldn't connect with the characters at all. I was hoping for something different

This was a bit of a dark and twisty thriller, and I liked the eerie boarding school setting. The premise of the story was intriguing, and some of the characters were interesting. In the end, the book wasn’t as compelling and surprising as I’d hoped it would be, but I did still largely enjoy it.
I ended up DNFing this book about 100 pages in. I did not love the writing style or the story, and I already had predicted what the ending was going to be.
This is a slow burn of a thriller that has quite a twist at the end. Moved kind of slowly. The cringe-worthy, unreliable narrator was intriguing. The interview sections added a degree of "what the heck is going on here" In the end I enjoyed this book with my only critique was the slowness.
Thank you to MIRA and Netgalley for an advanced readers copy of this book for my honest review.
DNF at 42%. This just isn’t doing it for me. At all. The main character is driving me nuts and, actually, I don’t like any of these people.
The line about “women shouldn’t be out in the cold” was? Very weird?
The constant uh, um, filled stuff from like, half of the characters is unnecessary and annoying.
I found a spoiler review of the rest of the book and am not disappointed I’m DNFing. I like the idea of this a lot but It’s just not for me.
Everything led to one deadly moment...
Dr. Madeline Pine is asked to assist in the investigation of a mysterious death at a boarding school for troubled girls. After the case she was involved in the previous year, she was hesitant to lending a helping hand.
This was a solid debut by the author and I'm looking forward to her next book.
I actually wasn't in the right headspace for this book so my rating reflects the premise and where it was headed! I ended up DNFing but that wasn't the fault of the author!
