"Cameron Mountain Rescue" by Beth Cornelison offers a thrilling romantic suspense tale set in the heart of the mountains. While the romance unfolds predictably, Cornelison's attention to detail and the adrenaline-fueled rescue missions keep the suspense high, making this a page-turner from start to finish.
Brody and Anya met sometime ago when he got injured helping a family member. While they and many others care to find a missing person they fall into a pit. Unfortunately it turns out to be a den of Horrors where they find much more than they expected and turned out to be connected to the person who was doing sniper shots at the search and rescue. Now they have to figure out a way to survive being in the pit until they are found unless the killer finds them first.
I really enjoyed this book it was really suspenseful. There was just so many odds against them. The killer knew where they were and it was only a matter of time before that person would strike or they would run out of air or so many other reasons. And then there was a point where they thought things were safe but the killer was out there so clearly it wasn't as safe as they thought. And it was so interesting seeing how everything played out. If you like suspenseful novels and you're going to like this.
The beginning was a wild time, I was feeling the tension of the story and the fear that the characters had. I felt like it slowed down a bit too much in the middle though.
This is the cleanest Harlequin Romance novel I have read...well, ever. Not a bad thing. The closest thing you'll get to "on page" smut is these two groping each other as they make out. Not a bad thing.
The writing is great. The suspense was good which is kind of surprising considering where the two characters spent half of their time in the book. I absolutely LOVED Nanna and the whole family dynamic of the Cameron clan. Definitely going to have to check out the other books in the series. This book does well as a standalone though. I just wished that we could have gotten a little page time with Anya and her family. They sound like an interesting family dynamic that may have added to Anya's people pleasing ways.
My only real grievance is how quick the relationship between Brody and Anya evolved. It's a pet peeve of mine when book relationships develop at lightning speeds and the reader is just supposed to be okay with it... particularly when they end in a marriage proposal or marriage.
Other then that, this is a pretty solid suspense romance and I would recommend it to anyone who is basically looking for a 'christian light' suspense romance. Cause they thank god a lot and while they have a physical relationship, you read only about the less salacious bits.
Very good book with family, romance, and intense suspense, concluding with nail-biting action. I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the North Carolina mountain setting and the glimpse of its Scottish heritage. The characters were relatable and easy to like.
Brody is the oldest of the Cameron siblings and is close to all of his family. The book opens with him taking his four-year-old niece and younger brother fishing. Lexi has her uncle Brody wrapped around her little finger, and it was sweet to see them together. However, when Lexi and a big fish tangle, she nearly drowns, and only Brody's quick actions save her. Unfortunately, he is injured and winds up in the ER, where he becomes enamored with nurse Anya Patel. The scene is amusing for Anya and eventually a bit embarrassing for Brody.
Months later, he hasn't forgotten the pretty nurse, so he is pleasantly surprised to find her on his search-and-rescue team when they are called out to look for a missing hiker. The search turns deadly when someone starts shooting at the rescuers who have spotted an isolated cabin. There they find the missing hiker, but as they try to escape, several explosions cause landslides that trap Brody and Anya in the cabin's cellar.
Most of the book is spent with Brody and Anya trapped in that cellar, praying for rescue and trying to stay alive. I liked seeing them get to know each other, sharing things they likely wouldn't have under different circumstances. Unsurprisingly, sparks of attraction flared under the stressful conditions after they survived an attempt by the cabin's owner to silence them. It's easy to see that Brody and Anya are developing strong feelings for each other. However, Brody's attempts to express his feelings are awkward and easily misunderstood. Anya, whose last relationship ended badly, hesitates to trust her judgment regarding Brody, her feelings for him, and his feelings for her. When they finally are rescued, a little backpedaling happens as each wonders if their feelings are real or a product of their circumstances.
I ached for Brody and Anya as they wondered about the other's feelings. Sometimes I wanted to shake them or stuff them back in that cellar until they actually talked to each other. There is a terrific scene where Anya has dinner with Brody's family after their rescue. I adored his grandmother and her practical wisdom and its effect on Anya. I liked seeing Brody's sister take him to task for his actions - or lack thereof, and I liked his grandmother's attitude even more. Meanwhile, Anya is heartbroken at Brody's distancing and feels her judgment was wrong again. I liked seeing her friend Chloe encourage her to confront him. But trouble comes before they can get together, and it's only then that each realizes the depth of their feelings. The ending was terrific and worth the wait.
The suspense of the story kept me hooked from start to finish. The prologue with the killer sets the scene for the search party and what happens to them. The tension when the first shots are fired at the rescuers goes through the roof when Brody and Anya spot the cabin. Their instincts tell them that there is a good chance that's where they'll find their missing hiker. The rescue scene, the explosions, and the landslide kept me wondering what would happen next.
The creepy factor went way up with Brody and Anya's discoveries in that cellar. Frequent scenes from the killer's point of view added to the worry for Brody and Anya's safety after their rescue. Anya's instincts were spot-on, and I was glued to the pages waiting for the killer to make his move. After tangling with the killer, Brody stretched the bonds of believability a little with his actions, but I rolled with it. I was more disgusted with what he didn't do (contact the police first!). The final confrontation was a nail-biter, again with some stupid mistakes, but all's well that ends well.
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the third book in the Cameron Glen series. I have not read any other books from this series before picking up this book, and I did not have any problems understanding what was going on. The beginning of this book puts you on your toes, and you get to know Brody and his family right in the beginning. I felt the beginning got you really set up for what was going to happen in the book. I really fell in love with both the main characters of this book. I also felt this book was really different then other Harlequin Romantic Suspense books I have read in the past because this book as action, but it is mostly a truly suspenseful book with very not a lot of action. I think because of how this book is written we really get to know the characters. This book is more character drive than action drive or plot drive. I really loved it, and I felt like I was there with the characters. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Romantic Suspense) or author (Beth Cornelison) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
This is my first by this author and I see coming into it that there are previous books in this series. I was thrilled that though they would obviously give more background on side characters, this story stood well on its own also. I was thrilled and captivated by proposals at first sight, the medical aspects, kids, and so much suspenseful more. I look forward to reading more from this author. While there was a touch of spice, there wasn’t any explicit scenes.
I'm a huge fan of Beth Cornelison and this book is a perfect example of why. The plot and the action kept me on the edge of my seat the entire book. It never takes me too long to read a Harlequin book, but I felt like I read this one even faster than usual.
Coming from a big family myself, I loved reading about Brody's family and the strong bonds between all of them. I did discover after reading the book that it is the third one in the Cameron Glen series. So after reading this one and with how truly phenomenal it was, I'm definitely going to be going back and reading the first two in the series.
When reading books like this, of course you know that Anya and Brody are going to get together. But it's all about the journey and how they find their way to one another. I felt Beth Cornelison did an amazing job building the relationship between Anya and Brody. I loved all the character development and how the characters of Anya and Brody changed and grew together throughout the book.
I strongly recommend this novel! I was given a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review and opinions.
I enjoyed reading this story about a man from a large family meeting a woman from a small family and how they interacted. Reading about the Cameron family members made you feel like you knew them. The author did a great job of describing the mountains in the area in which the rescue party was hunkered down after being shot upon, along with Cameron Glen the land owned by Brody’s family. Descriptions of the family and friends provided the user an image of the characters.
Brody Cameron is a family person with several sisters, brothers-in-law and brothers. He runs his own lawncare business, helps out at the family’s property and is a volunteer firefighter. He's injured while out fishing with his niece and younger brother so is taken to the hospital due to an injury. He has spent a number of months recuperating and is ready to get back to his volunteer firefighting efforts.
Brodie became enamored with one of the ER nurses that took care of them with his injury. He’s pulled into a search and rescue for a missing woman and that same nurse is also part of the team. It seems that several women are disappearing or being kidnapped in the past couple of months. Suddenly during the search, Brody and Anna are being shot at. After finding the woman and in their attempt to leave, explosions are being heard
around the mountain and a huge landslide occurs. Anya and Brody become trapped in cellar which was where Sophie had been.
Can a relationship really occur after all this or was it just temporary due to emotions being high while trapped?
Cameron Mountain Rescue is a well written suspense. The plot is a real edge of your seat page turner. I recommend this book. I received an ARC from the publisher and Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.
This book was a decent read, it had light suspense, intrigue, action, mystery, murder, good detective work and some twist and turns! The storyline was interesting and flowed nicely! It wasn't one of my all time favorite but still worth reading! I will recommend reading this book! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
