I'm a reader not a sports fan, but like BOYS IN THE BOAT gave me an appreciation of crew, this made me appreciate baseball more. Baseball in the 1800's wasn't like it is today.

If you are a long-time fan of baseball, this should be right up your alley. A specific time in the early days of baseball, this tells the story of a pennant race including the St. Louis Browns in 1883. The owner knows nothing of baseball. He owns a brewery and is just looking for another way to sell more beer. He sees that baseball fans like to drink beer and embarks on a scheme to own a ball club.
Well-researched and written, this is a great way for a fan of baseball to learn about one very early years of baseball.
