Carla is Anna's best friend from that horrible pirate restaurant and travels religiously because her father with dementia asked her to stay away so she doesn't watch him deteriorate. The love she has for him is palatable and it's a slow motion heartbreak in the making. She dutifully spends six years travelling and not getting too close to anyone.
The series starts with her flying into Dublin for Anna and Keene's wedding and having tangible tension with Eamon. He's the brother of the hero from Book 1, Float Plan. He spends the whole book wishing he had done any of the dreamy things he planned on while she's the real life embodiment of what it looks like to actually go out and do the things. They are lovely. After she leaves him at the wedding, she goes home to care for her father and they're left at an impasse. The relationship between Eamon and Carla was almost effortless and the real pain was between Carla and herself.
Read the whole series. Don't tell me if it's not for you because every book has hurt me at least a little and I have a cold dead heart. Trish, if you don't hurt me with Ciara's book next, I won't even know what you're doing here. He was barely in the book and I can tell that Dominic is not it.
Thank you to Netgalley, Macmillan Audio, and Trish Doller for a copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own.
Many thanks to NetGalley, St Martin's Press and MacMillan Audio for gifting me both a digital and audio ARC in exchange for my honest review of the latest chapter in the Beck Sister series by Trish Doller, beautifully narrated once again by Sarah Naughton - 4.5 stars!
Carla Black works as a bartender in Florida in the winter, saving up enough money to travel the world in the summer. Her dad, Biggie, raised Carla by himself after her mother left when she was very young. They spent every summer exploring the national parks. When Biggie was diagnosed with early onset dementia, he encouraged her to continue her travels. She flies to Ireland to be the maid of honor at her best friend Anna's wedding, and meets the best man, Eamon, who is to transport her to the wedding site. They have an instant connection and make a few detours along the way.
I loved the first two books in this series - Anna, the bride, was the subject of Float Plan. You definitely don't need to have read those two books but they are great reads! This one gets a slightly lower rating from me mostly because of the more vivid sex scenes between Carla and Keane starting from their first meeting - seemed a bit rushed and explicit. But the majority of the book was pure fun - it was going along on a road trip, having adventures, letting yourself be vulnerable, and falling in love. Both Carla and Keane needed to figure out what was important and be true to their hearts.
Carla Black is all about "feeling", but not so much about "feelings." Ever since her mom left when she was a kid, she and her dad used travel to tamp down the hurt. Now, as an adult, Carla has continued on, traveling the world in her beloved Jeep "Valentina." Then, she heads to Ireland for her best friend's wedding and meets Eamon Sullivan. and whoa, "The feelings"! Carla doesn't do love, she doesn't do relatiionships, but will Eamon change all that?
Loved the book, and the audio, too! Sarah Naughton is excellent - does a great Irish accent.
Thank you so much to MacMillan Audio and NetGalley for the audiobook in return for an honest review.
Carla is a 33 year old waitress from Florida. when Carla isn’t working hard to save money she is traveling and camping, following her fathers advice of not bringing anything more than her backpack. While traveling to Ireland for her best friends wedding she meets Eamon the best man and defacto responsible older brother to the groom. She learns that Eamon is trying his best to fit himself into a life he really doesn’t want. While she’s realizing that she is pursuing the things she wants in life.
Carla and Eamon share an instant connections that is almost love at first sight, which while sweet I wish we had more of a build up to their relationship. I loved the parts where Carla has realized that it’s okay to get close to people and create a found family and I was really happy with her personal growth throughout the book. Overall a nice little read.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Carla is going to her best friend's wedding in Ireland and the best man and brother of the groom, Eamon, is picking Carla up. They end up having an adventure on the way to the wedding and then Carla heads back to the states to be with her family. Will they try and make it work, or was it just another vacation fling for Carla?
I really loved the pace of the first half of this book. Trish doesn't make us wait till halfway for the "will they, won't they" typical romance. I liked that the second half then had the characters dig deeper into themselves. This audiobook was super cute, steamy, fun, and endearing. Now I want to go on more vacations!
This book has everything. Adventure, love, drama, family, and friends, and does them all extremely well. It definitely made me want to go back and explore Ireland more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. This is by far my favorite of these series and a book I will shout about from the rooftops. Bonus points for a fantastic narrator.

A mini-Irish-road-trip love story!
For those who enjoyed Doller’s “Float Plan,” I believe “Off the Map” will prove to be another success.
Carla and Eamon, near strangers, embark on a drive to a wedding that turns into a days long affair. They camp, flip a car, fend off a drunk bull, and rescue a kitten. From humor to sweetness to spice, the pair have excellent chemistry and banter. Even in serious moments, discussions regarding lifestyles and unmet goals, there’s a natural and comforting manner to their honest communication.
There’s a lot of self-discovery for both characters throughout the story. I enjoyed the progression of Carla and Eamon realizing where they wanted to be in life and supporting each other in moving toward their separate goals . Their connection does verge a bit into the realm of “insta-love” but in my opinion, it does so in a tasteful manner.
However, the only fault in this novel for me was the lack of anticipation throughout. I’m not a fan of third-act breakups or long drawn out “we can’t be together” excuses, but I do prefer some form of anticipation be present. The characters are pretty much together from page one, and around the halfway mark I was just waiting for the big break-up and dramatic return to happen.
Spoiler Warning: this book does include the death of a parent due to illness in present time.
Thanks to St. Martin's Griffin for the free copy.
What I love about Doller's past two books and this one is how she's not afraid to bring in so much emotion to her stories. She takes such heavy topics and handles them with care and depth. Carla was such a great character. Her bluntness was admirable. I also enjoyed Eamon and the journey they took through Ireland. While traveling, these two characters shared openly about adult and personal struggles. I loved their friendship from the start. I also am so glad the book didn't have a ridiculous third act blow up. The characters were mature and willing to take ownership of their actions - love this in a book.
The only thing that caught me off guard was that I wasn't expecting it to be as steamy as it was because the other two were not at this level.
The narration was well done. I thought the narrator did a great job of bringing Carla and Eamon to life - especially with the Irish accents.
Off the Map is the third book in the Beck Sisters series. When long time wanderer, Carla, goes to Ireland for her best friends wedding she meets the grooms brother, Eamon, and instantly hits it off. Taking the round about way to the wedding, the two explore the Irish country side together and sparks fly.
Going in to this story, I didn’t know it was part of a series and I expected a straight up romance, but there was more of it than that. Carla had a lot to do in finding herself, but by the end she’s figured it all out. My biggest problem with this book was that it wasn’t the straight up romance I was expecting, and most of that is probably my fault in interpreting the description. I also didn’t connect with the characters all that much. Overall it was a well written book and a quick read, but I just didn’t connect as much as I wanted to. This doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it and that I’m not interested in reading the rest of this series. Looking at the reviews, I am in the minority so I would definitely give this book a shot if you are interested by it, just keep in mind it’s not the straight forward romance you might expect.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC audiobook!
This was such a cute, fun read! And an easy one on top of it. I was hooked from the first chapter and couldn’t stop listening. Loved this one!
I really enjoyed Eamon and Carla. I found Carla's situation with her father having dementia moving. I lost my grandfather to dementia this past July. I brought up all the feels and sympathy for this character and her journey experiencing that. I too wonder if this is something i might experience myself as i get older since I am at risk for this as well.
I got teary eyed in a few parts and laughed at others. This also sparked my wanderlust of wanting to visit Ireland. I enjoyed this one.
I don’t think I could’ve been less emotionally invested than I was in those two people. I think the issue is that if I knew them in real life, I would absolutely avoid being in the same room as either of them. Like truly we are 100% incompatible. She wielded her “machete of truth” in hypocritical ways and he just couldn’t be bothered that he was carrying wedding rings as the best man but was like eh feck it let’s have sex and arrive late TO THE WEDDING??? They both had not like other girls personalities and were selfish.
He kept going on about his ex girlfriend but then he gave her an ultimatum to pick up her stuff when she’d been asking the whole time to pick it up!! Like yay dude congrats for finally moving on but check yourself at that point it was your fault the stuff was still there! And I don’t think she was even a shitty person (I could be wrong idk) she just wanted him to be less of a mess and honestly I relate.
But anyways, the two main characters had sex so early on and none of it had any meaning. It was just a thing to do to eat up plot space and fill time. Like literally he entered the pub and they kissed for no reason and then boom everything and nothing. There was zero depth to their relationship because the entire third act happened with her father, leaving just 11 minutes for them to figure out all of their differences and life goals and actually have a real conversation? No thanks. The plot was so random and nothing had any point. The first half felt like a lazy romance and the second was general fiction.
As this was an ALC, I do want to note that the audiobook narrator was fantastic. It’s a single POV story with one narrator. The Irish accents were 🔥 and I liked her voice. If you happen to already care about these characters from past books, I do think you could enjoy this, especially the audiobook.

Audiobook narration: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
*There were many scenes but I felt nothing. They were open door but pretty vague.
CW: parent with dementia, death of a parent on the page

Off the Map by Trish Doller is a romantic adventure through the Irish countryside. It is the third installment in the Beck Sisters series. I have read the first two books, which are great, but are not necessary as this is a stand-alone book. The story follows Carla a winter-time bartender and summer world traveler. She travels to Ireland for her best friend's wedding where she plans to meet up with her friend's future brother-in-law and the two of them travel from Dublin to the wedding. However instead of heading straight to the wedding, they have what is expected to be a short fling and camping/off-roading adventure, but something happens when feelings start to bloom between them. The last portion of the book is pretty emotional and touching, but I wouldn't expect less from Trish Dollar.
I thought this was a very sweet romance that started with insta-love and turned into more as they really got to know each other. I really enjoyed reading! Highly recommended!!
A beautiful story that definitely will touch you if you have someone you love that has dementia. Carla Black best friend and mentor happens to be her dad. He is a single older dad that showed her the world, but when he was diagnosed with dementia he told her to travel on without him. He didn’t want her to see him forget her. Now it’s been several years since she saw him and still traveling. At her friends wedding in Ireland she is picked up by the groom to be brother and the sparks fly. Eamon has never met such a free spirit, she is living the life he dreams of. Carla encourages him to take a trip to someplace he has wanted to go but never has. Surprisingly he has everything and more to camp and hike their way slowly to where the wedding will be held. Finding love along the way, and realizing that sometimes one needs to let go and enjoy the good and bad life has to offer.
I truly was swept into Carla story and her struggle with honoring her father’s wishes. The narrator was great and I just couldn’t stop listening. Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #OfftheMap #MacMillanAudio
I’ve loved all of Trish Doller’s novels so far, but the premise Off the Map really spoke to my soul. I love traveling and visiting national parks, so I felt like I had a lot in common with Carla at the beginning. I loved that she convinced Eamon to enjoy life a little more and see the world while he was able. Their detours through Ireland were a lot of fun to read! Insta-love makes it harder for me to believe in the staying power of Eamon and Carla’s romance, but they certainly have chemistry and I was all about the insta-lust.
quickly realized that while Carla and I have similar interests, we’re nothing alike personality-wise. I couldn’t imagine abandoning her ailing father for ten years, even if he told her to! I wasn’t expecting the dementia storyline, and it made me really sad for Carla’s dad and his girlfriend.
I do wish we got to see more of the characters from the previous books. Anna’s wedding was less than a page. Anna and Keane were my favorites of the series, so I was hoping for more of a reunion. I don’t even think Mason was mentioned, and Rachel was only in passing.
I love Frank Turner, and adored his mention in the book–that’s a first for me!
Audio Review: Sarah Naughton did a great job with this narration. The audiobook was extremely short–only 6 hours total–so I flew right through it!
Off the Map by Trish Doller is another delightful romance in the Beck Sisters series. Like her other romances, Off the Map has a heavy backstory--in this case, an aging father with dementia.. Carla is off to Ireland for her best friend's wedding. She meets up with the best man, Eamon, at a pub shortly after getting off the airplane, and sparks fly. No stranger to flings while traveling, Carla falls into bed with him before they hit the road to drive to Eamon's hometown for the wedding (since his brother is the groom). Along the way, they take a few detours and also maybe possibly fall in love. Each detour brought Eamon and Carla closer together and closer to the person each of them really wants to be.
It's insta-lust to love, and their chemistry is pretty stinking hot. This is an open door romance, and they don't waste any time. My favorite scene was either them sitting on top of their land rover while a bull drank their wine or them attempting a quickie while sheep were blocking the road.
This is short but seriously sweet, and the narrator, Sarah Naughton, brings the story to life in such a wonderful way. Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for my advance listening copy.
There’s just something about those Sullivan brothers 😍 I loved this one right from the get-go! The chemistry between Carla and Eamon was there from the moment they met and I felt their draw the entire way. Eamon was swoon worthy, just like Keane was. I loved Float Plan so this was a great spin-off that was done so well! Loved it!
For the audiobook, the narrator was pretty good! The voice made this character come across a lot older than she is, but that’s a personal preference thing, not a diss on her narrating availability. Overall it was good 😊

𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖: carla arrives in ireland for her best friend’s wedding where she will be the miad of honor. the couple has tasked best man, eamon, to pick her up and bring her to the wedding.
𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒: okay trish doller does it again – i absolutely adored float plan and the suite spot so i am so glad this book was no different. The insta love trope really worked for the two of them. their chemistry was great. they were absolutely amazing & hilarious & had the best time together. i loved how carla pushed eamon to finally chase his dreams and i loved how much she grew in this story as well. it was an all around great romance & i am so glad i picked it up. highly recommend!
𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆: i loved it! (4.5 stars rounded up to 5)
*Special thank you to macmillian audio, netgalley, and trish doller for an ALC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley for the advanced listening copy! This was a sweet romance and short book from Trish Doller - some people are calling it a novella, but it’s almost 300 pages, so is that right?!? Carla is into travel and has been traveling almost non-stop since her dad was diagnosed with dementia. She goes to Ireland for her best friend's wedding when she meets Eamon, the brother of the groom. They instantly connect, and decide to start traveling together. But though there is quick connection and lust, the drama in their lives starts pulling them apart. Can they make it work with all the complications? I listened to this book, and the narrator was great. I have decided Doller’s books work best for me on audio (I have read all the Beck Sister books in this series). I liked Carla and Eamon’s love story, and I always enjoy a book about people who travel and take adventures with a non-traditional life (I am a librarian and a mom, so I like living vicariously through this kind of plot point). I also thought the steam was super well done, this is definitely the most open door book that I have read from Doller. This author always has a tinge of sadness throughout her books, but I thought the dementia plot point was well done and I think both characters grew. Overall, I recommend this sweet and thoughtful book for fans of Trish Doller, traveling plots, and insta-love.
I just love Trish Dollers writing! I started this book last night after work, and finished this morning. There’s just something about her books that suck me in and I don’t want to put them down until I’m finished. Off the Map was really a beautiful story. I loved the relationship Carla had with her dad. It’s so relatable on many levels, and that’s one of the things I really loved about it. The entire story was so easy to fall in love with and of course the fact that it takes place in Ireland doesn’t hurt either!
Overall I loved this book and the narrator did a great job too. I’m normally skeptic when women to male voices but this narrator did a good job with Eamon!
