This was a dnf for me. I’m sure it’s a wonderful romance, but I couldn’t get past the insta-love and the cookie cutter plot. I was also put off my the crass language. Thanks for the opportunity to review.
Carla flies to Ireland for her best friend’s wedding and Eamon, the groom’s brother, is tasked with picking her up. Carla’s adventurous lifestyle and Eamon’s wish for one, bring these two together with so much chemistry and humor. Honestly, these two couldn’t be any more made for one another. It just took Eamon a bit to catch up with Carla. I love their banter their sheer joy in just being with one another. Their little mini adventures on the way to the wedding were superbly entertaining and meeting the family was a hoot!
I loved the depth between Carla and her father. All the stories about the places they traveled during her childhood we so sweet. The one thing I did not like was the ending because I felt it was rushed. I would have preferred them to deal with her dad’s dementia together.
This is the 3rd in a series, but I read it as a stand alone. I will definitely check out the other 2 books in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to review this sweet audio arc.
Trish Doller's books are like a breath of fresh cold winter air, a bit painful at first but so life affirming! This one is about Carla, a world traveler who has lived in the moment and avoided setting down roots every since her mom left suddenly and her dad distracted her by taking her on trips to National Parks. She meets a cartographer named Eamon who has lost his way when he picks her up at the airport in Dublin to go to her best friend's wedding. Her best friend is none other than Anna from The Float Plan, and the groom, Keane, is Eamon's brother. Other than heartwarming cameos and updates on their lives, the previous two books in the series don't play a strong part in this story so you could read it as a standalone, but I highly recommend the whole series. Trish Doller's writing is touching and a bit melancholy but also a lot of fun to experience.
The audiobook narration by Sarah Naughton was just perfect for the story, she has narrated the whole series so far and I enjoy listening to her tell the stories almost as much as the writing itself.
Off the Map started off with a bang, literally. Our two main characters had only known each other for a minute and I felt like we were rushing to get the steam into this book. The overall story wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t for me. I felt the steam was rushed and didn’t make sense. It would have worked if they had possibly known each other before and were reunited but that was not the case here. I did enjoy the trip and the chaos along the way. I think this book would definitely work for some but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Thank you to Macmillan Audio for my advanced listening copy!

Carla Black is in her mid thirties and traveling the world. She lives her life in the moment and doesn’t let anything hold her back, including relationships. After she was abandoned by her mother at a young age, her father sets out on a journey to take her to National Parks all over and Carla continues her travels as she gets older. One big change is that her dad is no longer traveling with her due to his dementia and she avoids going home to visit him.
Eamon Sullivan is a digital cartographer living in Ireland who seems to have his whole life together. But in reality, he’s not as put together as he portrays. His love life is sort of a mess, his family is a little dysfunctional, and he wants a bit of a career change but doesn’t know where to start. Then comes along care free Carla Black…
Carla’s best friend is marrying Eamon’s brother and the two are off on a road trip to attend the wedding. They take a few detours along the way and end up falling for each other. But Carla doesn’t do relationships for a very specific reason and no one is going to change her mind, not even Eamon. But does finally going home change everything for her?
After the wedding is over, Carla decides to finally return home to see her father. Despite his dementia, Biggie is still the same person Carla remembers him to be, he just can’t always remember her.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought the story was really touching and teared up quite a few times, especially with the handling of dementia. The relationship between Carla and her dad was so lovely while heartbreaking at the same time.
I’m normally not a big fan of insta love stories, but I thought this one was done really well. I could feel the chemistry between Carla and Eamon immediately and it carried through the whole book. I loved their banter and sarcasm throughout the book. It had me laughing the whole way. Also, the spice was 🥵🥵🥵.
One of the only things I would’ve changed would be to get some of Eamon’s POV. The entire story was told from Carla’s POV and there were a few moments I really wanted to see from Eamon’s viewpoint.
I did listen to this on audio and Sarah Naughton did an amazing job. I loved her voice overall and she did so well with the accents.

🗺️I was so blown away by how much I loved this book! I read the first book in the series (Float Plan) and loved it. Then I read the second in the series (The Suite Spot) and wasn’t really a fan. So I didn’t have high hopes for the third book in the series, but I absolutely loved it!
🗺️Here’s a summary of the plot:👇
When Carla’s father is diagnosed with dementia he sends her off to explore the world he will one day no longer remember. After a whole decade of globetrotting, Carla has landed in Ireland for her best friend’s wedding. When the best man picks her up to drive her across the country to the wedding venue, sparks fly immediately. As they take a few detours and spend more and more time together, Carla starts to wonder if maybe she’s finally ready to put down roots somewhere.
🗺️I felt so seen by this book. So much of Carla’s story really resonated with me. I don’t know anyone else (besides myself) obsessed with having a US National Parks passport and collecting the stamps. I felt so seen by the constant travel until you meet the right person (aka me until I met my now fiancé 🤪). The ending of this book made me soooob. 🥲
🗺️There were still a couple things I didn’t love (namely the whole instalove trope), but overall I really really enjoyed this one! Definitely my favorite book in this series!
🗺️Thanks @macmillan.audio and @netgalley for my advanced copy! This book publishes today!
Oh my god! I loved this so much. I literally just gave this novel a big hug.
A quick read that had all the things I love. Steamy romance, chemistry, adventure and lots and lots of kissing! **sigh**
I adored Eamon and all his charm. And Carla was a sassy strong female that I was so jealous of. All her trips around the world and I just couldn’t get enough of these two. I’m still smiling and I might of cried a little, so yes it was a satisfying read. I highly recommend it. I also had a chance to listen to the audiobook which was excellent. Sarah Naughton was the narrator and she did all the voices well!
I. Loved. It.

Truth time - I'm giving this book 4 stars instead of 3 because I've been to Ireland and adore the country. With that caveat, I think anyone else who loves Ireland or would like to travel there someday will have similar feelings!
If you have no affinity for Ireland, this is probably a book you can skip.
But, for those of you who remain interested, get ready for a sexy romp courtesy of a good ol' fashioned road trip. Carla lives for the nomad life, only stopping in Florida during the winter to restock her bank account. Her dad instilled the love of travel and now she's living out his wishes. When she lands in Ireland for her best friend's wedding, she happily realizes her ride is a hunky Irishman who's the groom's brother. This insta-love attraction has them both in bed not long after.
Eamon never expects this wild child to pull him out of his rut and force him to explore the country he's always loved. But they end up road tripping through Ireland and stopping at both planned and unplanned stops along the way. Both of them know this little fling can't go anywhere, but at the end Eamon is begging Carla to stay still for once and be with him.
I thought this book was a very cute romance novel but it also has some really sad parts. If you have someone in your life who has dementia this might be a hard read.
Besides the sad parts, I really loved the storyline. Carla loves to travel but runs away from the love she finds along the way. On one of her adventures, she meets Eamon, who I loved and was rooting for them throughout the book. After meeting him she goes back home to help with her father who has dementia. This experience shows us a lot of struggles Carla has faced in her life.
I also loved the narrator of this audiobook!!
I really enjoyed this one. I felt it was very focused on Carla and Eamon and their adventure together. I also felt like it was very mature and the falling in love part was natural. It was a story of two people who came together at the right time and found exactly what they needed in each other. Their relationship was respectful and both helped the other grow as people. I also liked that there was not you typical denial to be together even though you clearly want to be that is the formula for most rom-coms. With Carla and Eamon, those reasons were handled very maturely and made sense. Sarah Naughton also did a great job narrating.
Off The Map was a heart wrenching love story. The author did a fantastic job with words, making each sentence beautiful. I would have stayed for the descriptions and lovely words, but the plot kept me compelled and moving forward as well. I did cry more than once listening to this story, and one of those moments had me almost in sobs, so get your tissues ready. But there is a happily ever after!
The audiobook narrator did an excellent job with accents and with giving each character their own tone and voice. I listened at 1.75x speed, which is my normal.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and this audiobook. Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this advanced audio copy.

Contemporary romance. Beck Sisters, book 3. Can be read as a stand-alone but part of the travel is to get to a wedding of one of the sisters. I had not read the previous books and had no trouble following the story.
Carla Black is on a perpetual adventure. If it sounds interesting, she’s all in. No deep commitments, but a life of exploring and living to the max. She meets Eamon Sullivan in Ireland and they have instant chemistry and go exploring, both in bed and around the country. Eamon is the responsible family member. Taking a side trip on the way to a wedding shouldn’t be thrilling but he’s learning from Carla that fun is allowed.
Carla is also running from emotions and she needs to unlearn her habits for a richer future.
It’s a fun romance with a second story of learning to love. Dementia is a big piece so if that’s a trigger for you, be warned.
“What happens in the pasture, stays in the pasture.”
🎧 I alternated between an ebook copy and an audiobook. The audiobook is narrated by Sarah Naughton. The performance is well done and includes a slight Irish accent for Eamon and his friends that you don’t necessarily hear in reading the book. Both the ebook and audiobook had me crying as she does video calls with her father and his dementia is a factor.
I think the ebook had a slightly lighter, carefree feel for me as an adventure of her falling in love. The audiobook felt a bit more serious from Eamon’s tone and perspective of life.
I listened to this audiobook at 1.5 which is my standard and is what I feel makes the best conversational speed.
However you read this book, it’s heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time and of course, as a romance you get a hea.
I received both copies from NetGalley. The audiobook courtesy of Macmillan audio.
This was a great romance! Carla goes to Dublin to serve as Maid of Honor at her best friend’s wedding and the groom’s brother, Eamon, who is the Best Man is tasked with picking her up. These two have instant chemistry and their trip across Ireland becomes an adventure that neither of them will forget.
Carla and Eamon were perfect together. Carla is an adventurer and Eamon is more of a planner but he really wants to experience life more like Carla does. Carla is dealing with some things in her personal life and I was happy that she finally took some much-needed steps before the book drew to a close. I really just felt like Carla and Eamon complimented each other perfectly and couldn’t wait to see them figure things out.
Sarah Naughton did an amazing job with the narration. I thought that she was able to add a lot of emotion into her reading which really helped to bring the story to life. I thought that both her male and female voices felt natural and I absolutely loved the accents she used for some of the characters. I think that her excellent narration helped to bring this story to the next level.
I will definitely be recommending this book to others. I thought that this book was very well done and I loved the adventurous spirit of the characters. I hope to read much more of this talented author’s work in the future.
I received a digital review copy of this book from St. Martin’s Press and Macmillan Audio.
I haven’t read the previous books in this series but this was really cute! It was a little insta love but the characters went through such a deep connection right away that it didn’t bother me. The book was spicy and emotional and I definitely think trigger warnings are necessary so I wish more audiobooks included them.
Sweet Baby Taddies. This story is perfection. We laughed, we swooned, we cringed and we cried. The audiobook is narrated by Sarah Naughton, and she is outstanding at bringing this performance to life, and considering she needed rotate between Irish and American accents, she really had her work cut out for her! Beyond her accent superpowers, Naughton draws the listening in with her incredible emotionally infused performance. Stunning.
In short description, FMC Carla, best friend to Anna, arrives in Ireland and convinces MMC Eamon, brother of Anna’s Fiancé, to take the detours he’s always wanted to as they travel across Ireland to get to the wedding.
We were both of us surprised that this story begins so carefree, instead of the intense emotion of Doller’s first two books. But of course it does. FMC Carla’s voice is so different from Anna and her sister. And it needed to be. Anna and Rachel were burned by love before and had a weariness of intentions. In Float Plan, Carla was Anna’s spirited best friend in a slutty pirate costume living life to its fullest. Naturally, this book is spicier and Carla is welcoming to experiences and people.
Eamon is not at all what Amy had expected. He’s so open and kind and put together. Amy was undoubtedly expecting a grumpy sunshine kind of story. But this is more of a Sunshine/Sunshine. Their instant connection and lust aren’t left hanging in the air between them. They pursue a fling instead as they acknowledge the connection. However with the baggage that bubbles out of both of them as the story progresses, it rather works.
Doller does not disappoint in the setting of this story. Her descriptions of the journey across Ireland and of Carla’s adventures in America are positively transporting for this pair of readers.
As we mentioned, we adore this story in every way, but it should be noted that if you live with someone with dementia, this story could be as triggering for you as it is cathartic for us. Amy found it particularly affecting. The fears, the struggles, the heartbreak, the worries, the devastation, the panic, the grief, the guilt, the frustration, and the love. “You’re my Carla. Aren’t you.” Tears.
I have read a few of the other books in this series and loved them and this book is the same. Had a lot of run listening to this one!
3.5 out of 5 stars!
I enjoyed my time with Carla and Eamon. Carla lived a life of wanderlust, going where the wind blew her. This time she was in Ireland for her best friend's wedding. She meets up with Eamon, brother of the groom, to travel to the wedding venue. Eamon has a sense of adventure that has been stifled by familial obligations. He wants the life Carla leads. I didn't like how Carla and Eamon were lackadaisical about getting to the venue in a timely manner, but it was also a time for discovery for them. It seemed that Carla and Eamon were ready to switch roles so to speak and their roundabout trek to the wedding cemented what they both wanted to do. Except... they didn't count on falling in love. I loved Anna and Keane's (Float Plan) cameos especially since it was their wedding that Carla and Eamon were traveling to. Sarah Naughton did an amazing job of narrating this story. She brought out Carla's and Eamon's personalities and gave them relatable and realistic dimensions.
I received an advance copy of the book from the publisher and voluntarily left this review.
I had high hopes for this latest novel by Trish Doller! I really liked The Float Plan and absolutely loved The Suite Spot. Unfortunately, Off the Map fell a bit short for me. What I liked was the travel that Carla and Eamon do together while semi-blowing off pre-wedding activities for Carla's bestie and Eamon's brother. I loved Carla's sense of wanderlust and Eamon's desire for adventures. These two brought out very different sides of the other. I also enjoyed their willingness to make detours and seek out sights. What did not work for me was their very sexual relationship and how quickly they fell for each other. It went beyond lust (which I can understand happens quickly) and was far too explicit for it to be romantically falling in love. It just all happened very quickly. I found both of them to also be a bit whiny considering they are adults. Carla's relationship at my dad is perhaps what kept me reading. I loved hearing her stories about her dad and her realizations about her relationship with him. I loved the way he taught her about adventure, but also missed some of the other big life lessons.
Although not my favorite of Doller's books, I think others might very much enjoy it. I am still partial to The Suite Spot!
A very big thank you to @macmillanaudio for granting me access to the audiobook and to @stmartinspress for the free ebook to read/listen and review!
I received an advanced copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I have really enjoyed this series so far, so I was excited to read the next one. Even though this isn't one of the sisters I think the story fit in well with the rest of the series. I liked the detour that Carla and Eamon took and the shenanigans they got up to really made me want to visit Ireland. The entire time I was rooting for Carla to grow and open herself up emotionally. Trish Doller really has a way of tugging on my heart strings and I found the second half of the book was an emotional rollercoaster, and the ending felt right. I think Trish has become an auto read author for me after this series because they have all been right for me in such different ways!
If you are a fan of audiobooks you should listen to this book because the narrator does a great job with Eamon's accent!
Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of Off the Map by Trish Doller. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This third book in the Beck Sisters Series was a fun ride through Ireland and southern Florida.
Carla Black is Anna's friend and she's on her way to Ireland for Anna and Keane's wedding. Carla is a free spirit who spends her winters in Fort Lauderdale earning money and the rest of the year traveling wherever she picks by throwing a dart at a map. Ireland is new for Carla and she's agreed to meet Eamon, Keane's brother in Dublin and they are going to drive to the wedding together.
Quickly they fall for one another and their trip, complete with detours, is fun and I felt we really got to know the two. Of course fate brings their fling to and end, or does it?
Great continuation of fun characters, new ones, and great location descriptions.
