It was great, the narrator did great with the multiple characters and the accent was so good. I love that the setting is in Ireland, it was well written in a way that I felt I was there.
Carla has been traveling all over the world with her Dad since a young age. When her Dad is diagnosed with dementia he pushes Carla to continue her travels on her own. Carla is in Ireland for her friend's wedding and meets Eamon, the best man who is supposed to take her for the wedding, but they end up taking a trip of their own!
This is my first Trish Doller book! Float Plan has been on my list for a real long time! Off the Map was interesting and a book with a lot of potential. I loved her relationship with her Dad, it was a little strange that she hadn't seen her Dad for 6 years! Now to the romance, I'm not a fan of the insta sex/love trope. I didn't find their chemistry to be great or how they fall in love in under a week. I enjoyed their travel experience together. Overall a decent read.
Thank you @stmartinspress @macmillan.audio for the eARC/ALC of the book!

Trish Doller is a top read author for me. I have enjoyed all three of the books in the series so far. March is the perfect time to read this title as it's set in Ireland. There is a bit of "on the spot" romance that might seem too quick for most, as in how does one sleep and seemingly have the "perfect" romance in a day? Others might love that the MC is free to love who she wants. This is a great standalone title, though there are a few glimpses of prior characters in this one. Enjoy!
I thought the contrast between the two main characters in this book made it interesting, especially since they still had a great connection! I thought this was such a cute romance. I would highly recommend this for a fun, lighthearted read. Thank you netgalley for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is such a hard book for me to review. There were so many things that I loved about the book, but it was not quite one that would leave a lasting impression. Things between Carla and Eamon start off pretty fast, insta lust and insta hookup. With that, it made it harder for me to see a real connection for them as a couple. There was no buildup and lacked the chemistry. I can’t really say that I was a fan of Carla or Eamon either. There were choices that Carla made that didn’t really settle well with me which made her seem rather selfish and too careless. Like choosing to do a longer road trip when she should be beside her friend as the maid of honor leading up to the wedding day. Even though Biggie (her dad) told Carla he didn’t want her around to see his health deteriorate from dementia, I still can’t get pass that Carla continued to travel the world and not see him for six years. By the time that she realizes she needs to be by Biggie, time really wasn’t on her side. Towards the end it was more vulnerable and emotional.
Although Off the Map wasn’t my cup of tea, I will still read the other two books. Don’t cross this one off your TBR, if you are a fan of insta hookup with some steamy scenes while on a road trip with some fun adventures, this one is for you.
I enjoyed this novel! The characters were fun and the adventure the two main characters find themselves on was great and provided many good laughs while reading. I loved how confident Carla was with traveling and connecting with nature, she seemed like such a bright presence to others. There were times that I was a bit frustrated with her and found her to be a bit selfish at times. However, I also appreciated that she acknowledged her areas of needed growth and was willing to face that head on later in the story. Eamon was so sweet and I loved seeing him outside his comfort zone chasing his dreams. The romance aspect was pretty effortless, a little insta-lovey to be honest. I appreciated that there was no drama surrounding it. Both characters were very mature and level headed when it came to communication and understanding. The dementia storyline was heartbreaking and I thought the author handled this aspect of the storyline with great care. Overall, it was an enjoyable read for me and the audiobook narrator was wonderful.
For me, this book was really two separate stories: one where Carla travels through Ireland, and the second where she returns to Florida. The first one almost made me stop reading; Carla, and by extension Eamon, was so selfish that it was difficult to listen to. Weddings are stressful enough so adding to the stress by gallivanting through the country on an extended adventure with the rings seems so rude! Yes, there is a lesson here and she learns it in the second half so those who gave up on this book missed the tenderness of her relationship with her father (who also used the travel and evade methods of dealing with life). Still, the second part is much shorter than the selfish first part of the book so I completely understand giving up on this one. I am glad I finished it though but not enough to rate it more than 3 stars because the selfishness really grated on my nerves.
Carla is on a brief pause from her travels to be her best friend’s maid of honour. Eamon, brother of the soon to be groom, is tasked with picking Carla up at the airport and making their way to the wedding. What should be a direct drive turns into a grand adventure, where the two spend some extra time getting a little lost in each other.
Trish Doller is the queen of crafting fun romances that also pack the emotional punch. Carla is constantly on the go because her father, now declining due to dementia, doesn’t want her to see him fade away. The emotional journey of seeing the person you love start to lose themself packs a big punch, while still holding value in supporting them through it was so well done.
The romance was very cute, and the mishaps along the way that created their best adventures were entertaining and funny.
Sarah Naughton did a great job narrating, as she did with the first two books!
Overall, I thought this struck a great balance between lighthearted and emotional, and it’s definitely worth the read.
Love, love, love this one!! I listened to the audio version and the narrator was perfect for the characters. This is the third book in the series, I’ve read all 3 and thoroughly enjoyed them so highly recommend reading them in order but it could be read as a stand-alone.
I adored this book!! Off The Map is the third book in a series, but it definitely works as a stand alone.
Carla Black and her dad loved to travel. He raised her to love traveling in an old yellow vintage jeep and believed in stopping long enough to replenish adventure funds. When dementia takes over and Carla's dad cannot remember their travels, she decides to live her life in the moment. See the world just as they did together for so many years. She travels to Ireland for her best friend Anna's wedding. When Anna's fiancée's brother Eamon Sullivan picks her up from the airport for the wedding, sparks fly!
Eamon is not without his own troubles. Stuck in a job he doesn't love, simmering over a recent break up, he's struggling to find what truly makes him happy. Could he find happiness with Carla?
I loved the crisp plot development. The characters were endearing and the father/daughter connection really warmed my heart. This is not your typical sappy romance. Ripe with adventure and humor it strikes the perfect chord.
Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for an ALC in exchange for my honest feedback.
As someone who has read this whole series, I was SO excited when I received the ARC of this book! Ms. Doller did NOT disappoint and I loved this book just as much as the other two in the series. I took a star off because I feel it was left on a cliffhanger and I'm not sure if there is a book four being released. I also was not prepared for the triggers in the book.
I absolutely loved this book! My attention was captured right away and I was entertained through all of Carla and Eamon’s adventures. I loved their immediate connection - physical and emotional. This book was definitely steamy!! The narrator was perfect for this novel. I want to read more by this author now!
Thank you for letting me read this arc! I listened to this in audio and the narrator was fantastic! As someone who recently lost a family member from dementia this book put me in my feelings. I cried multiple times. Would recommend!!
Trish Doller has a way of writing books that just make me want to back a bag and hit the road. Off the Map is beautifully written and full of wanderlust and love. Although it’s a sweet read there are moments that are tough (tw: death of a loved one).
The audiobook is perfect! The narrator nails all the accents!
i’ve been a huge fan of trish doller after reading her first book, then lining up to buy the second on pub day. i was so happy to be able to review off the map as it was one of my most anticipated reads this year! i rate it 3 stars because it wasn’t bad but they’re could’ve been so much more. the romance aspect was too fast (like first 2 chapters fast) and i wish i could’ve seen more chemistry between the two characters. i’ll still buy the physical copy because again, i love trish doller, but sometimes your favorite authors release books that won’t be your favorite and that’s okay!
I’m a major fan of Trish Doller - I will read anything she puts out, and I’m pretty sure I’ve loved each release more than the previous ones. Off the Map is even further proof of this - it’s absolutely incredible!!
I adore the Beck Sisters books, from Anna and Keane meeting in book one and finally getting married in book three, in Keane’s hometown in Ireland. Now, Anna’s best friend and maid of honor Carla (from the bar they met at and worked together for years in Fort Lauderdale) flies over to Dublin where best man, Keane’s older brother Eamon, picks her up to drive to the small town where they grew up... except they have an odd meet-cute at the pub where they meet up, get to chatting, discover each other’s wanderlust and end up driving around Ireland in Eamon’s Landrover, having great conversations and adventures… including the one pictured on the cover (yes, the upside down vehicle with the sheep, a bull, some sangria and the umbrella, does happen)!
It’s such a wild and wonderful adventure followed by the wedding, with our beloved original Beck Sisters series couple making appearances, a whole lot of great emotional discussions (TW: some extremely heavy inclusion of dimentia), great steam level, beautiful writing, and the perfect narrator for the audio version (I absolutely love Sarah Naughton, who’s narrated the whole series - perfect job as always). I absolutely recommend this book and series to everyone - anyone who hasn’t read the, yet is totally missing out. My only complaint is that it was too short - should have been longer!!
I received an advance read and listen copy from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press (St. Martin's Griffin), and Macmillan Audio, and this is my honest feedback.
Loved this one! Eamon is the brother of Keanan from the previous book, Float Plan and Carla is the best friend of Anna from that book, and she has just landed in Ireland for their wedding and Eamon has been tasked to pick her up from the airport and deliver her to the wedding. All plans go awry when they decide to take his van on a trek across Ireland on the way and they end up on an adventure. Carla is all for the backpack life as that is how she choses to live but Eamon finds it hard to let loose but as they trek along he loosens up and soon they are sliding off the road and end up stranded one night and then before reaching the wedding at the surf festival where they call the bride and groom to join them. Will these two be able to find a happy place they can be together?
I thought this one was so cute! I have read the first two in this series by Trish Doller and enjoyed both, but this one was my favorite. Great characters, a great story, Ireland in the background - what's not to love? The very quick romance seemed to fit so well for Carla and Eamon. My only complaint was that it could have been a touch longer.
I loved this traveling romance and the way the characters interacted so sweetly together. While it is a romantic love story I appreciated the love in Carla's dad's storyline too. Dementia is heartbreaking, but Trish wrote it with dignity and grace and the growth it brought to Carla's character was beautiful to read. I listened to the audiobook and it was fabulously well done. I can't wait to go read her backlist too!
Off the Map brought out the tears. Throughout the book a running theme is Carla dealing with her grief over her father having dementia. I've had some experience with dementia and Alzheimers (my grandma) and know that it's a long tough road for everyone. The memory loss is tough but the changes in mood and behavior can be tougher. Carla had so much to work through and I loved that she worked through it unintentionally.
Eamon also had some things to work through as he isn't living the life he imagined. Carla was the perfect one to light the exploration fire under him and make him see that it is possible to live the life that he wants.
Eamon and Carla have a lot of chemistry and I loved watching their attraction to each other grow and change throughout the week, and also that they did have a time of separation.
