Trish Doller is back with the 3rd book in the Beck Sisters series. Although Off the Map is not a Beck sister story, it is about Anna Beck's best friend, Carla from back home and she is set to travel to Ireland for Anna's wedding.

I’m not an insta-love/lust sort of person, and unfortunately that's exactly what this turned out to be. Carla arrives in Ireland to be picked up by Keane's (Anna's husband to be) brother, Eamon. And they will make the trip a few hours to Anna and Keane's wedding destination. But right from the start, these two hit it off physically. While I'm not big on "insta-love" stories, I do love a good adventure. And Carla is full of ideas for them. Eamon is the complete opposite. He's stuck in a life that he never imagined and living the day to day life with dreams that never go anywhere. He is simply stuck.

While I did not particularly like the insta-lust sort of beginning, I did like seeing these two make last minute decisions for adventures on their way to the wedding. Living by dreaming. They had good banter and obvious physical chemistry, but this was all about the adventures and getting to dive deeper into who each character was and what they truly wanted out of life. I didn't exactly connect with Carla and Eamon as a couple right away, but I liked the fast friendship they developed and the way Carla made Eamon see what life could be like if he decided to take the risk.

Carla, meanwhile has some inner demons she is battling. It seems like she has led an open and carefree life, but it was all about running and never connecting with anyone while seeing the big wide world through her jeep. Her dad Biggie taught her a lot, but he did not teach her about surrendering to love and connections. Then there is the fact that Biggie, the one person who has been a constant in her life and that she has truly loved, has Alzheimers and she has not seen him in years. She has love for that man like no other, but her only connection she has with him is her adventures and phone calls.

While I didn’t feel the connection between Carla and Eamon right away, I did feel a friendship between them. The relationship I was most invested in was the one with Carla and her dad, Biggie. That one hit close to home. And that is what Ms Doller does best. She hits you with an emotional punch that is long lasting and so well done. She handled the father daughter relationship and the debilitating disease with care. You can't help but be pulled in.

Overall, I was more invested in the father-daughter relationship in this book, but toward the end, I did finally get on board with Eamon and Carla's relationship as well. Even if the connection was immediate, it was there. Carla opened up herself to Eamon more than anyone previously. I enjoyed the emotional mixed with the romance. It was balanced well.

Lastly, I would be remiss to not mention the audio performance. This story is completely from Carla's POV and Sarah Naughton did a wonderful performance with all the accents and characters.

Thank you NetGalley and Trish Dollar for gifting me an advanced copy of Off the Map in return for my honest review.

Trish has done it again. Another spectacular read. One thing I enjoy about Trish’s books is that when you get to the 3rd act break up it’s something that is understandable and not frustrating for the reader. While it’s my least favorite type of break up at least done in this way I’m not rolling my eyes.

I adored Clara and Eamon and how the play off each other. When they both meet they are both going through the motions of what has been expected of them by their parents. It’s wonderful to watch how they grow and create their own paths in the world. The reason I didn’t give it a 5 is that this is instant love, which is my least favorite troupe. They were saying I love you after barely a week. I mean at least it wasn’t a single day but still!

I also really enjoyed how Anna plays a big role in this book, which is ironic since that is the only one of the series I haven’t read. But I love her character and how strong and understanding she is. I also loved the narrator of the book who really brought the characters alive!

All in all another wonderful read by Trish and I can’t wait to see what else she comes out with!

I struggled with this book. I liked the Ireland setting, and I appreciated Doller's accurate representation of loving someone with Alzheimers. The part that lost me was the book description gave the same vibes as the movie Leap Year, while the book did not match those vibes. The romance was not only open door, but was quite explicit from the very beginning. I wish this had been mentioned in the book description, because I would not have requested it had I known this.

#OffTheMap:⁣

“if I have any faith at all, I have faith in the stars”⁣

Let’s give it up once more for Trish Doller. Not only can Trish bring heavy topics into a romcom and normalize them, but she also gives her characters “non-traditional” careers and *gasp* they are okay. AND (oh I’m not done) she also knows how to throw a romcom out without the “great misunderstanding” (aka the book breaker) Do you know refreshing this book is?! ⁣

Also, the audio is amazing. Sarah Naughton is wonderful, as always. I loved so many scenes and could hear the vulnerability in the narration. Highly recommend this one audio. ⁣

I love when series will briefly bring back a character or two from the previous book. Anna and Keane were major players in the second half of the book, and I loved it. I loved seeing them happy again. It brought back all my favorite memories of Float Plan. Get this book, read Float Plan first (or you shall be spoiled) and just swoon over Ireland and wine drinking bulls.⁣

Thank you @smpromance and @macmillan.audio for the copies. Off The Map is out 3/7.

This is the third book in the Beck Sisters series, but it can be read as a stand alone. The previous two books are Float Plan and The Suite Spot. This is technically not about a Beck sister, but about Anna’s best friend and Keane’s brother.

I loved this one! It was so fun getting to see where Anna and Keane were at in their relationship after the end of Float Plan. I really liked both MCs. In typical Doller fashion, this isn’t just a fluffy romcom. There is substance to this story and the characters face some truly difficult obstacles. The writing is solid and the romance is sweet. I’d say this is my second favorite in the series, after Float Plan.

The audiobook was well done. I enjoyed getting to hear the Irish accents and all of the names be pronounced correctly.

If you like Trish Doller, you will enjoy this one as it is written much the same as Float Plan and The Suite spot. Funny, off the wall, a little outlandish, a little unbelievable, but loveable all the same. It was fun from start to finish, but I didn't find the characters as loveable as I wanted to. They seemed to lack the depth I so desperately wanted in order to feel connected to the characters. I didn't feel the urge to binge it like I usually do, even though I enjoyed it. Overall I would definitely recommend and the audio was excellent.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 for GoodReads.

Although I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for a review, all opinions remain my own.

This started out as a light fluffy romance book and quickly turned into something more serious. When Carla goes to Ireland for her best friend's wedding, she meets Eamon, what they find together is something neither of them was expecting. Carla's "her for a good time, not for a long time" life motto is about to be challenged by her time with Eamon. What happens in her time in Ireland is just amazing but what happens after is even more special. I loved the story that develops when Carla lets the walls come down (so to speak). While I found myself tearing up a few times, it wasn't ever out of control for me and overall, the book ended quite beautifully for me. This is an author I would definitely listen to again.

Thank you so much to Macmillan Audio & Netgalley for this audiobook of Off the Map by Trish Doller!

I love this series. They are always just summery and bright with giving enough emotions to make permanently invested in these characters. Although the romance between Carla and Eamon was a little too fast for me, I loved everything else. I loved the family / found family aspect in this book and was brought to tears towards the end. This one is definitely a spicier than the other two (at least that I remember). Honestly a perfect fling of a book to read when outdoor reading weather is starting.

I read Float Plan and The Suite Spot for the first time in preparation for reading Off the Map. I love the themes of women finding their own way through difficult situations (Anna learning to live with the grief of her late fiance, and Rachel prioritizing the needs of her & her daughter). I think it’s especially challenging to write a series because it’s inevitable that there will be comparison of the books and characters.

Off the Map fell flat for me. I didn’t feel the chemistry between Eamon and Carla, which made their insta-love seem unrealistic. Unlike the first two books in the series, there was more open-door romance in this book, but it felt like a bandaid trying to hold together an otherwise mediocre story. I’m thankful for friends who warned me about the CWs (parent death on page), but to me this book just seemed all over the place and struggled to hold my attention.

Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martin’s Press & Macmillan audio for review copies.

I really enjoy Trish Dollar's books. This one was just a joy to read. And the spice, was fuego. I know that I have imaginings of living a wanderlust lifestyle, minus the camping because I do not rough anything, and this book helped fill that void.

4.5 stars from me and another winner from Trish Dollar. Audio is perfect as well.

I have mixed feelings for this book. Overall it was super sweet and I think the narrator did an amazing job. Trish writes so well and I loved the appearances of old characters. I just have some feelings of the rush ness of the book.

The previous books had very heartfelt stories and you connected to them instantly and I just didn’t with these main characters. I don’t mind insta love at all. But this was so fast. It was cute but the ending just felt soooo rushed. I don’t know how hard it is to see your parent sometimes remember you but man I’d want to see them more than she did even if my dad said go live your life. So her being back for barely a week and Biggie just dying so quickly was just like too convenient but even though I didn’t care for it it worked. I do really love these novels and still want an Irish man regardless haha

Thank you NetGalley for an advance audiobook!

OFF THE MAP by @trishdoller is the third book in her Beck sisters series! Thank you @netgalley @stmartinspress for the e-arc and ALC in exchange for an honest review! This one publishes next Tuesday, March 7!

I really enjoyed this one, just like the first two! While it’s part of the series, it actually follows Carla Black, who is a friend of the Beck sisters! All 3 books can be read as standalone s!

This book has the insta love trope, which I know lots of people don’t really like, but I don’t mind it! This book is a lot steamier than the first two- the couple (Carla Black and Eamon Sullivan) literally sleep together within hours of meeting as maid of honour and best man for their friend/brothers wedding. If that trope isn’t your favourite, then you may not enjoy this book as much.

Despite the insta love, this book was also lots of fun, just like Doller’s previous books. There is lots of adventure, challenges, laugh out loud moments, and some discussions of real life issues. Both Carla and Eamon have to come to terms with what it means to be happy, and that maybe what they are doing with their life, isn’t bringing them the happiness they are looking for. Carla also is dealing with the care of her sick father, who she has a bit of a complicated relationship with.

Overall, I recommend this book and the first two in this series (Float Plan and The Suite Spot). They are the perfect books to read as plate cleansers between heavier books, or if you want to switch up genres!

Off the Map surprised me a lot. I was not expecting it to get so deep and hit so hard. I laughed. I cried. I was thoroughly blown away. What started out as a fun, holiday fling story developed into more than just fun. Was it sexy? Yes. Was it a fun read? Also yes. But it was also at times sad and uncomfortable, but in a really good way. I was expecting a fluffy dessert, some cotton candy that I could enjoy and forget. But the story had me in literal tears at parts and turned out to be more of a meal than a snack. Will definitely be checking out more books by this author.

Probably more like a 4/4.5, but it made me cry so I'll give it a 5

4.25⭐

Book 3 in the Beck Sisters series ~ this is part of the series because Anna and Keane from Float Plan are getting married. Carla is the best friend/maid of honor and Eamon is the brother/best man. Fine as a standalone, unless you'd like to meet Anna and Keane first.

Featuring ~ single 1st person POV, parent with dementia, steamage, insta~ish love, fast burn, YOLO

Carla & Eamon
Carla is living life to the fullest. She's always on the go traveling all around the world. Her latest trip is to Ireland for her best friends wedding. She meets, Eamon, the best man and they immediately hit it off and head back to his place for some whatnot.

Dementia really makes me sad. Luckily it has not affected my family, so I don't really know much about it, but I felt the author did a good job bringing realism to it. The flashbacks of the father/daughter relationship were heartwarming. I like that he taught her all the ins and outs of vehicle maintenance and repair.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. There was a bit more steamage in this one then in the previous books ~ I'm not sure what's up with that, but I didn't hate it. It was cute, fun and the epitome of YOLO.

Narration:
Sarah Naughton ~ 6 hours 37 minutes ~ well done ~ perfectly listenable at 3x.

This book has all the feels! I laughed, I grinned like a fool, and I cried. I loved every part of this book. I loved seeing glimpses into Anna and Keane's lives from Float Plan too.

I did a kind of hybrid listen/read for this since I'm home sick and have a headache. This narrator is absolutely amazing. I loved her ability to bring this story to life and her voice for Eamon was so good! I highly recommend this in any format, but if you love audiobooks I'd definitely go that route.

I loved the wanderlust theme of this book. It was so fun to read about all the great places Carla went to as a kid and lon her own as an adult. I especially loved that sometimes she would settle down for awhile and other times keep moving. I also loved how Eamon shared his desire to visit new places with her and how they just did it. I also loved when Keane and Anna joined in because Float Plan is one of my all time favorite books. (Though Off the Map is now too!)

Oh and did I mention the romance is HOT. Carla and Eamon have chemistry. But they also have a really great friendship that develops. I absolutely loved them as a couple.

I also loved the theme of found family. I love how travels can be full of small fleeting friendships but also full of deep connections.

But what I love the most is that Doller tackles tough topics. In this book Carla's dad has dementia and it is HARD. I know this could be triggering for some, but I thought it was handled very well.

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.

3.5*

This was a fast, enjoyable read, that definitely takes you on an emotional journey. I loved Carla and Eamon as individuals and together (despite my critique below), and I especially enjoyed Carla and Biggie's relationship and history (heartbreaking as it was). Like the first two books, the personal growth journeys for both main characters is at least as important to the story, if not moreso, than the romance.

What made this more of a 3.5-4 star for me (vs. the 5 star ratings I gave the first two books), is simply that the romance aspect fell a little flat for me. Unlike the slow build of the first two, this was an insta-love (or at least insta-lust) setup where the physical relationship started very early on. While this is far from being a deal breaker, I never really felt the development from there, it just kind of jumped from a hookup to deep feelings which just didn't feel genuine. Not that I don't think these characters were a good fit, nor do I deny the chemistry, something about the build up (or lack thereof) just didn't work for me.

I also didn't just love how the story wrapped up. It was just too rushed and too "convenient" for me. Neither character had to "work" for the HEA - circumstances just changed so that everything easily fell into place.

Despite how this makes it sound, I did enjoy this book - just not as much as I hoped I would after loving the first two.

I listened to an audio-arc for this one, and would give 5 stars to the narration. Nicely done.

I tried reading this one but ended up not finishing it. I didn’t like the instalove between the two main characters and it seemed way to unrealistic to have their connection be that perfect. I’m really disappointed as I was looking forward to reading this but I couldn’t force myself to continue reading.

Stop reading now and just look at my rating if you don't want spoilers, because I'm not sure how to give an honest review without them.

First, I loved the first two books in this series. I found the dialogue witty and fun, and they were pure escapist fiction When this one became available, I eagerly requested and did a little happy squeal when I was approved. Unfortunately, that's where my happiness ended.

After flying from Florida to Ireland for her best friend's wedding, Carla immediately meets up with Eamon at the airport. Although it's not a "cold meet", because he is the brother of her best friend's fiancé, what could be a meet cute ends up as a what-in-the-world-is-going-on-here situation after Carla goes home with him, takes a shower to get rid of her travel funk, and spends the night with Eamon. Okay. I'm not a prude. Sex and an overnight with a virtual stranger. Fine. But then Carla decides the next day that, because she doesn't feel that Eamon has been adventurous enough in the past, she's going to delay going to meet her BEST FRIEND FOR HER WEDDING and go camping with a guy she met approximately eighteen hours before. Okay, I'm on the edge at this point, but, when she allows Eamon, again a guy she's known for less than a full day, to take nude pics of her in the woods, I couldn't take it anymore. I love a good rom-com, but come on. I need at least a little bit of realism, and this one just isn't for me.

Although I gave the text version of this book two stars, I'm giving the audio three, because the narrator (Sarah Naughton) is fabulous.

This book was so sweet and surprisingly spicy! Carla is a world traveler and Eamon is a people pleaser with dreams of going off and doing what he wants, not just what he should. The chemistry between them is electric from the start. Would love to see where the future takes them if this became a series!!

This audiobook was wonderful! The narrator changing her voice and having their perfect accent for characters was amazing and really brought this story to life.

This book was like a warm hug with so many incredible life lessons woven through. I picked this up and read right through. I always love Irish dialogue too, it may be a favorite of mine, which made me love this even more.

This was a quick read with the best messages. Carla decided after being abandoned by her mom at a young age and growing up with her dad who loved to travel the world that she was only going to live her life moving forward, never looking back, never having regrets and being present in the moment always.

When she finds out the one person that’s been a constant in her life has dementia and is slowly going to forget who she is, she takes off on an adventure never looking back. She stops in Ireland for her best friends wedding only to meet Eamon, the best man and they have an instant connection.

Carla shows Eamon he can step outside of his structured life and live a little and he tries to show Carla that sometimes people are willing to catch you and keep you without changing who you are. Even though this was an insta love their chemistry and banter and their adventures were wonderful and had me smiling the entire time.
