I really enjoyed this debut set in 1950s NYC and Louisiana. When he's a teenager, Victor Chen was diagnosed with Hansen's disease, which was commonly called leprosy at the time. The plot could perhaps use a little more finesse, but this book is a wonderful dive into a different time and taught me so much about this disease during this time period.
